Covid-19 for the Primary Care Clinician: Current Recommendations—Don't Blink!

ABSTRACT

The chapter will discuss the outpatient assessment of the patient with possible Covid-19. The outpatient provider's tasks are the following Appropriately identify those who are sick enough to warrant inpatient treatment. Recognize those patients who are at high risk for progression to severe Covid-19 based on risk factors and to guide them toward interruptive therapy with antibody infusion or inhibitors of viral replication. Advise about testing, treatment, isolation/quarantine, and follow-up care including vaccination guidelines. Patients with post-acute sequelae of Covid-19 (Long Covid) are also usually under the aegis of the primary care provider.
