ABSTRACT
Background and

Aim:

The aim of the study is to evaluate the relationship between anxiety and hypertension control in patients with COVID-19 diagnosed with hypertension.

Methods:

Eighty patients with hypertension who were admitted to our clinic with the diagnosis of COVID-19 were evaluated. Routine blood pressure follow-up of inpatients was performed twice a day. Blood pressure medications used by the patients were ordered. Demographic and laboratory features were recorded. The anxiety of the patients was evaluated with the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI).

Results:

During follow-up, 56 patients (group 1) had their blood pressure under control, while 24 patients (group 2) had uncontrolled blood pressure. When groups with and without blood pressure are compared;the beck anxiety index of the group whose blood pressure was not under control was found to be significantly higher (79% vs 55%, p=0.03). There was no difference in terms of other parameters (Table 1).

Conclusions:

Increased anxiety in hypertensive COVID-19 patients has been found to cause uncontrolled hypertension. The demographic and biochemical characteristics of the patients did not make a difference in terms of blood pressure control.
