III - Action compounds structurally related to the 4, 4'-diaminodiphenil sulfone on the development of murine leprosy (sulfoxide, sulfide, bensophenone and amine)

ABSTRACT

Prosecuting the studies of the action of drugs on the development of murine leprosy, we report in this paper the results obtained with compounds related to the molecule of the 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl-sulfone, the 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfoxide; 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl-sulfide; 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl-amine and 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl benzophenone, compounds in wich it was made substitution of the -SO2-group by the - SO-, -S-, -NH- and -CO-respectively. The literature do not made reference with regard to the treatment of the murine leprosy with these cmpounds; the scope of the experiment was to study the activity of these drugs on the development of murine leprosy. It was used the same methods that was done in previous reports (7 and 11) and the results of treatment with each drug was compared with the ones obtained when used the 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone in same conditions, as described before. From the analysis of the ponderal register (figure nø 1) it is evidenciate that there is a decrease of corporal weight of the animals under treatment, compared with the curve of control's weight. This fact must be connected with the toxicity of the substances (sulfoxide and sulfide) being studied. We call the attention for the ponderal register of animals receiving the 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone. The curves of survical time (figure nø 4) of animals receiving the studied drugs approaches that of controls; small differences are not analised in detail in view the little number of animals used for the screening of each drug. In the conditions of the experiments it was not observed any influence of the treatment with these drugs upon the survical time, when compared with the control group. In the other hand the comparison of these groups (treated animals and control animals) with the group of animals treated with 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone, shows a markedly difference in respect of the average survical time and maximal survical time (Table VII).
