A clinical history of Zincum metallicum: homeopathic pathogenetic trials and case reports.

In the present study, we investigated the experimental basis for the indications of homeopathic drug Zincum metallicum. The current body of knowledge about Zinc met has a core composed of pathogenetic and clinical data collected in the 19th century surrounded by layers of clinical observations reported over time. In the description, we prioritized poorly known sources, especially the ones that were never translated from the original German. We also performed quantitative and statistical analysis of repertory data. Through a literature survey and a call to practicing homeopathic doctors from many countries, we were able to put together a relevant case-series that represents homeopathic indications of Zinc.

Blisters and homeopathy: case reports and differential diagnosis.

Blisters are skin lesions characterized by accumulation of fluid between the layers of the skin. Their severity varies from the common blisters caused by friction to severe autoimmune and congenital bullous disorders, some of them currently without treatment in conventional medicine or requiring drugs with potentially severe side-effects. This article reports cases of blistering diseases successfully treated with homeopathic medicines, which represent an alternative for the treatment of such disorders.

Epidermolysis bullosa: report of three cases treated with homeopathy.

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a group of rare genetic disorders characterized by recurrent blistering as a result of even minor traction of epithelial lined tissues, most remarkably the skin. Associated morbidity is serious for all patients affected due to the presence of large areas of denudated skin thus susceptible to infection. There is currently no available treatment in conventional medicine. This article reports the case of 3 children successfully treated with individualized homeopathic medicines.

Homeopathic treatment in resistant livedoid vasculopathy: case report.

This paper describes the successful outcome of homeopathic treatment in a case of resistant livedoid vasculopathy (LV). LV is a rare disease characterized by chronic recurrent and painful ulceration of the lower limbs, frequently associated to atrophie blanche (AB), probably due to procoagulant conditions. Most literature reports single or very few cases; response to treatment is difficult, even resistant. This patient suffered LV for 7 years before seeking homeopathic treatment; ulcers recurred frequently, at intervals less than 3 months, in spite of continual use of pentoxyfilline. Configuration of signs and symptoms strongly pointed out to the prescription of homeopathic remedy Sepia succus that promptly elicited significant improvement of LV and the patient's overall state (non suppressive treatment). Considerations are made on the value of single case reports and the reliability of prescriptions grounded on consistent signs and coherence among the manifold features of individual disease.

Individualized homeopathic treatment of dermatological complaints in a public outpatient clinic.

UNLABELLED: This study sought to assess the effectiveness of individualized homeopathic treatment on dermatological complaints in a public outpatient clinic. METHODS: Children and adults spontaneously seeking for homeopathic treatment for dermatological complaints were prescribed single individualized remedies and followed up for a minimum of 3 months; assessment was clinical and recorded graphically. RESULTS: Forty-nine patients met the inclusion criteria. Outcomes were positive (59%); no effect (4%); drop-out (37%), from which 6% was due to homeopathic aggravation. No manifestations of suppression were observed. CONCLUSIONS: Outcome studies are useful to point out to the effectiveness of individualized homeopathic treatment in dermatological complaints. Outcomes suggest that actions focusing on pathological categories do not lead to homeopathic suppression.

A acne é uma ocorrência comum, que basicamente consiste na inflamação dos folículos cutâneos, eventualmente seguida de infeção. Os objetivos do tratamento convencional são reduzir a produção das glândulas sebáceas, acelerar a renovação celular cutânea, diminuir a infecção e evitar a disseminação da infecção. Para tanto, dispõe-se de uma ampla variedade de agentes para aplicação tópica ou uso sistêmico. No entanto, a própria existência de tal variedade de abordagens aponta para o fato de que nenhuma modalidade terapêutica é completamente efetiva. A homeopatia pode constituir um valioso tratamento para a acne, na medida em que leva em consideração os sintomas e sinais mais peculiares da condição patológica reunidos em configurações sindrômicas. O presente artigo é dedicado à análise das características da acne correspondentes aos medicamentos homeopáticos Arsenicum album e Pulsatilla nigricans.

Acne is a common occurrence that basically consists in inflammation of the skin follicles eventually followed by infection. The aims of conventional treatment are to reduce the sebaceous production, increase the skin cell turnover, reduce infection and hinder the spread of infection. For that purpose, several topical and systemic agents are available. However, that very broad range of therapies points to their relative effectiveness. Homeopathy might represent a valuable treatment of acne inasmuch as it takes intrinsically consistent and coherent configurations of the most peculiar signs and symptoms of diseases into consideration. The present article describes the typical characteristics of acne corresponding to homeopathic medicines Arsenicum album and Pulsatilla nigricans.

This article is an attempted sketch for a semiotic perspective about the HD phenomena, from their production, signification and meanings to possible s of research. On the grounds of classic semiotic notions, it is proposed the model of ?iconic transmission? which posits HD signs as icons. As a working hypothesis, it might be useful to explain the anomalous aspects of HD, which fall outside the scope of traditional science grounded on the notion of matter.(AU)

A method of Seeing in Homeopathy: a methodological foundations of project "Understanding Homeopathy by Images" / Método de observação em Homeopatia: fundamentos metodológicos do projeto "Entendendo a Homeopatia através de Imagens"

This paper presents the results of conceptual research on the nature and operation of visual signs in homeopathic clinical practice. Aims: to analyze the role of visual signs in homeopathy together with their specific semiotic structure in correlation with the codes leading to possible significations and then to assess the possibility of establishing coherence between the symptoms and signs of patients. Methodology: Sign-complexes are approached through a four-stage model including: 1) delimitation; 2) decomposition; 3) correlation and; 4) reintegration of signs. Data for analysis were collected along 15 years of homeopathic clinical practice and recorded by visual means; theoretical foundations derive from Jakobson’s theory of communication and Peirce’s semiotics. Results: stages of delimitation and decomposition are illustrated by a homeopathic semiology of the tongue; analysis of correlation allowed to identify 9 different possible patterns; reintegration requires a first phase of extension of the connotation and denotation of signs followed by a phase of contraction of meaning leading to decision-making. Conclusion: application of the model proposed results in highly qualified and individual visual signs that bring new elements to reconsider the role of objective signs in homeopathic practice.

Este artigo apresenta os resultados da pesquisa conceitual sobre a natureza e operação de sinais visuais na prática clínica homeopática. Objetivos: analisar a função de sinais visuais na homeopatia juntamente com a sua estrutura semiótica semiótica, correlacionando-os com os códigos, conduzindo a possíveis significações e, em seguida, para avaliar a possibilidade de estabelecer coerência entre os sinais e sintomas dos pacientes. Metodologia: o conjunto de sinais são abordados através de um modelo com quatro fases: 1) delimitação; 2) decomposição; 3) correlação; 4) reintegração de sinais. Os dados para análise foram coletados ao longo de 15 anos de prática clínica homeopática e registrados por recursos visuais; os fundamentos teóricos derivam da teoria da comunicação de Jakobson e semiótica de Peirce. Loganiáceas: da toxicologia ao repertório / Loganiaceous: from toxicology to repertory

Com o grupo dos medicamentos homeopáticos derivados de Loganiáceas, este artigo discute as possíveis relações entre o conhecimento toxicológico e potenciais núcleos sintomáticos desses medicamentos, resultantes da experimentação patogenética homeopática. A perspectiva toxicológica aponta consistentemente para expressões sintomatológicas derivadas da ação dos alcalóides componentes de todas as plantas desta família, estricnina e, secundariamente, estricnina. A análise comparativa, com ajuda do repertório homeopático, permite identificar, não somente núcleos sintomáticos comuns a uma família ou grupo de medicamentos, mas também as diferenças específicas de cada um dos membros, contribuindo assim no diagnóstico de individualização mórbida, na base da prescrição homeopática.

By taking the group of homeopathic remedies derived from Loganiaceae, this article discusses the possible relations between toxicological knowledge and the potential symptomatic nuclei of these remedies, as resulting from homeopathic pathogenetic trials. The toxicological perspective consistently points out to symptomatic expressions derived from the action of the alkaloid components of all the plants belonging to this family, strychnine and secondarily brucine. The comparative analysis, with the help of the homeopathic repertory, allows to identify not only symptomatic nuclei common to a family or group of remedies, but also the specific differences that distinguish each of its members, contributing in this way to the diagnosis of individual disease, which lays at the ground of homeopathic prescription.

Decision making and semiotics: a view in homeopathy / Decisão e semiótica: um olhar em homeopatia

This paper discusses medical action, homeopathic medical action in particular, from a semiotic perspective. Any doctor – patient relation and communication aims at an action. Action in medicine follows a decision which is determined by the meaning of signs and operations with signs. In their turn, signs are conditioned in their perception and interpretation by the meaning they have to their receivers, both intra and intersubjectively. The meaning of signs in the medical context relates to reference values established by normative signs, around which semiotic fields are organized. Signs never appear isolated but in configurations, meaningful only from the perspective of some specific coherence. While decision-making is a consequence of meaning, meaning is conditioned by codes predetermined in both the sender and receiver of signs. Each and every medical action has an outcome which might give rise to a new series signs – decision – action. The outcome of medical action functions as a sign subsequent to previous ones, and a new configuration might appear, which allows for new action. Homeopathic signs have as their ultimate referent an individual; these signs are configured in a coherent way using the specific codes. Specific configurations allow for specific decisions and effective prescriptions of remedies when they point out to the individual.

O presente artigo discute a ação médica, particularmente a homeopática, de uma perspectiva semiótica. Toda relação e comunicação médico-paciente visa uma ação. A ação, em medicina, segue a uma decisão, por sua vez determinada pelo sentido de signos e operações com signos. Os signos estão condicionados em sua percepção e interpretação pelo sentido que têm para seus receptores, tanto intra quanto intersubjetivamente. O sentido dos signos no contexto médico se relaciona com valores de referência estabelecidos por signos normativos, ao redor dos quais são organizados campos semióticos. Os signos nunca aparecem isolados, mas em configurações, significantes somente como função de uma coerência específica. Enquanto a decisão é conseqüência do sentido, este é condicionado por códigos pré-determinados, tanto no emissor quanto no receptor dos signos. Toda ação médica tem um resultados que, por sua vez, pode originar uma nova série de signos - decisão - ação. O resultado da ação médica opera como signo subseqüente aos anteriores, e dessa maneira pode aparecer uma nova configuração que leva a uma nova ação. Os signos homeopáticos têm como referente último um indivíduo; esses signos se configuram de maneira coerente graças a códigos específicos. Configurações específicas levam a decisões específicas e prescrições efetivas de medicamentos quando visam o indivíduo.
