ABSTRACT

According to universally acknowledged biopsychosocial model of development, numerous biological and environmental factors influence development of children. One of them is iron deficiency in the organism. The study assessed physical, motor and psychosocial development of children who at an early age had the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia and had been treated by iron drugs. Their neurological, receptive, expressive and cognitive functions were assessed using BINS (Bayley's Infant's Neurodevelopmental Screen). The sample was divided into 2 age groups: 16-20 and 21-24 months. The study shows that in children, who had iron deficiency at an early age and had taken treatment with relevant drugs in a timely manner, the aggregate indicators of four clusters do not differ significantly from standard indicators submitted by BINS. We deem important time diagnosis of iron deficiency and beginning of respective treatment, in order to avoid problems in psychomotor development; Timely treatment will favor the processes of development of child's social and school preparedness.

ABSTRACT

Encephalocele is a herniation of the brain (cranium bifidum, cephalocele, craniocele), formed during embryonic development, because of the incomplete closure of Neural Tube. It is a rare skull defect, with the incidence of 0.8 to 5 per 10,000 live births. The article presents the medical history of a four month old patient, with frontoethmoidal encephalocele and multiple skeletal anomalies, such as amniotic knots on limbs, foot deformity, sindactilia and cleft palate.

ABSTRACT

Physical, motor and psychosocial development has been studied in healthy Georgian infants and early age children who were born without biological risks. Neurological, receptive, expressive and cognitive functions were assessed by BINS (Bayley's Infant's Neurodevelopmental screener). Comparing to the norm given by BINS, analyses of variances shows a significant difference of median sum indicators in all age groups. Depression of expressive and cognitive functions are mainly the reason of this difference, which can be defined by the incorrect management of social adaptive steps. The process of management is incorrect because of the deficiency of mother, as a standard person's role in the issues of children growth and development. The analyses of our material showed, that BINS is one of those remedies which timely and exactly identifies child's psychosocial development. On the other hand, child's incomplete socialization makes issue of parents' educational system to become more perfect. Study results shows that above mentioned problem are caused by incorrect management of social adaptive steps, which is based on the deficiency of mother as a standard person in the process of child's growth and development.
