RESUMEN

A novel Gram-negative, white-pigmented, and auxin-producing strain, 20NA77.5T, was isolated from fresh water during cyanobacterial bloom period. Pairwise comparison of the 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain 20NA77.5T belonged to the genus Undibacterium and exhibited the highest sequence similarity to the type strains of Undibacterium danionis (98.00%), Undibacterium baiyunense (97.93%), Undibacterium macrobrachii (97.92%), and Undibacterium fentianense (97.71%). The average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values between strain 20NA77.5T and its related type strains were below 79.93 and 23.80%, respectively. The predominant fatty acids (> 10% of the total fatty acids) were C16:0 and summed feature 3 (C16:1ω7c and/or C16:1ω6c). The genomic DNA G + C content of strain 20NA77.5T was found to be 48.61%. Based on the phylogenetic distinctness, chemotaxonomic features, and phenotypic features, strain 20NA77.5T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Undibacterium, for which the name Undibacterium cyanobacteriorum sp. nov is proposed. The type strain is 20NA77.5T (= KCTC 8005T = LMG 33136T).

PURPOSE: Prostate cancer (PCa) is a major urological disease that is associated with significant morbidity and mortality in men. LLGL2 is the mammalian homolog of Lgl. It acts as a tumor suppressor in breast and hepatic cancer. However, the role of LLGL2 and the underlying mechanisms in PCa have not yet been elucidated. Here, we investigate the role of LLGL2 in the regulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in PCa through autophagy in vitro and in vivo. METHODS: PC3 cells were transfected with siLLGL2 or plasmid LLGL2 and autophagy was examined. Invasion, migration, and wound healing were assessed in PC3 cells under autophagy regulation. Tumor growth was evaluated using a shLLGL2 xenograft mouse model. RESULTS: In patients with PCa, LLGL2 levels were higher with defective autophagy and increased EMT. Our results showed that the knockdown of LLGL2 induced autophagy flux by upregulating Vps34 and ATG14L. LLGL2 knockdown inhibits EMT by upregulating E-cadherin and downregulating fibronectin and α-SMA. The pharmacological activation of autophagy by rapamycin suppressed EMT, and these effects were reversed by 3-methyladenine treatment. Interestingly, in a shLLGL2 xenograft mouse model, tumor size and EMT were decreased, which were improved by autophagy induction and worsened by autophagy inhibition. CONCLUSION: Defective expression of LLGL2 leads to attenuation of EMT due to the upregulation of autophagy flux in PCa. Our results suggest that LLGL2 is a novel target for alleviating PCa via the regulation of autophagy.

RESUMEN

In this work, we propose our newly developed wafer-type plasma monitoring sensor based on a floating-type double probe method that can be useful for two-dimensional (2D) in situ plasma diagnosis within a semiconductor processing chamber. A key achievement of this work is the first realization of an ultra-thin plasma monitoring sensor with a system thickness of ~1.4 mm, which supports a fully automated robot arm transfer capability for in situ plasma diagnosis. To the best of our knowledge, it is the thinnest accomplishment among all wafer-type plasma monitoring sensors. Our proposed sensor is assembled with two Si wafers and SiO2-based probes; accordingly, it makes it possible to monitor the actual dynamics of processing plasmas under electrostatic chucking (ESC) conditions. Also, it allows for the prevention of chamber contamination issues after continuously exposing the radio frequency (RF) to various processing gases. Using a test-bed chamber, we successfully demonstrated the feasibility and system performance of the proposed sensor, including robot arm transfer capability, vacuum and thermal stress durability, and data integrity and reproducibility. Consequently, compared with the conventional plasma diagnostic tools, we expect that our proposed sensor will be highly beneficial for tool-to-tool matching (TTTM) and/or for studying various plasma-related items by more accurately providing the parameters of processing plasmas, further saving both time and manpower resources required for preventive maintenance (PM) routines as well.

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic and non-motile rods strain, designated as strain 2012CJ39-3T, was isolated from a marine sponge, Myxilla rosacea, collected on Chuja Island, Republic of Korea. Optimal growth of strain 2012CJ39-3T was observed at 25 °C, pH 7.0 and in the presence of 2.0-3.0 % (w/v) NaCl. Strain 2012CJ39-3T contained menaquinone-6 as the respiratory quinone, iso-C15 : 1 G, iso-C15 : 0, and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH as the predominant fatty acids, and phosphatidylethanolamine, an unidentified phospholipid, an unidentified glycolipid, three unidentified aminolipids and nine unidentified lipids as major polar lipids. The genomic DNA G+C content was 38.4 mol%. Results of phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA gene and whole-genome sequences revealed that strain 2012CJ39-3T formed a distinct phyletic lineage in the genus Muricauda. Strain 2012CJ39-3T was most closely related to Flagellimonas hymeniacidonis 176CP5-101T, Muricauda spongiicola 2012CJ35-5T, Muricauda algicola AsT0115T, Muricauda flava DSM 22638T and Muricauda parva SW169T with 96.5, 96.4, 96.3, 95.8 and 95.6 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, respectively. The average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain 2012CJ39-3T and M. spongiicola 2012CJ35-5T, F. hymeniacidonis 176CP5-101T, M. algicola AsT0115T, M. flava DSM 22638T and M. parva SW169T were 75.6, 74.2, 78.6, 75.3 and 74.8 % and 27.4, 19.9, 36.3, 24.2 and 18.9 %, respectively. Based on these results, strain 2012CJ39-3T represents a novel species of the genus Muricauda, for which the name Muricauda myxillae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 2012CJ39-3T (=KACC 22644T= LMG 32582T). In addition, Flagellimonas hymeniacidonis is reclassified as Muricauda symbiotica nom. nov.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the most important medical complications of diabetes mellitus. Autophagy is an important mediator of pathological response and plays a critical role in inflammation during the progression of diabetic nephropathy. Interleukin (IL)-17A favorably modulates inflammatory disorders including DN. In this study, we examined whether IL-17A deficiency affected the autophagy process in the kidneys of mice with streptozotocin (STZ)-induced DN. METHODS: The autophagic response of IL-17A to STZ-induced nephrotoxicity was evaluated by analyzing STZ-induced functional and histological renal injury in IL-17A knockout (KO) mice. RESULTS: IL-17A KO STZ-treated mice developed more severe nephropathy than STZ-treated wild-type (WT) mice, with increased glomerular damage and renal interstitial fibrosis at 12 weeks. IL-17A deficiency also increased the up-regulation of proinflammatory cytokines and fibrotic gene expression after STZ treatment. Meanwhile, autophagy-associated proteins were induced in STZ-treated WT mice. However, IL-17A KO STZ-treated mice displayed a significant decrease in protein expression. Especially, the levels of LC3 and ATG7, which play crucial roles in autophagosome formation, were notably decreased in the IL-17A KO STZ-treated mice compared with their WT counterparts. CONCLUSIONS: IL-17 deficiency aggravates of STZ-induced DN via attenuation of autophagic response. Our study demonstrated that IL-17A mediates STZ-induced renal damage and represents a potential therapeutic target in DN.

A dual isotopes approach and the Bayesian isotope mixing model were applied to trace nitrogen pollution sources and to quantify their relative contribution to river water quality. We focused on two points to enhance the applicability of the method: 1) Direct measurement on the end-members to distinguish "sewage" and "manure" which used to be grouped in one pollution source as their isotope ranges overlap; 2) The Lagrangian sampling method was applied to consider the transport of nitrogen pollutants in a long river so that any fractionation process can be dealt with in the given Bayesian modeling framework. The results of the analysis confirmed the NO3- isotope composition in the river of interest to be within the range of NO3- with origins in "NH4+ in fertilizer", "Soil N", and "Manure and sewage" pollution. This suggests that nitrogen pollution is mostly attributed to anthropogenic sources. The δ18O NO3 value follows the range +2.5∼+15.0‰, implying that NO3- in the river is mainly derived from nitrification, and possible nitrification in groundwater or waterfront other than surface water. The ratio of the concentration of δ15N NO3 to that of δ18O NO3, and the corresponding regression equation indicates that the denitrification effect in surface water was insignificant during the study period. From the results of the contribution ratio of each source, improving the water quality of the discharge from the sewage treatment plants was proved to be the key factor to reduce nitrogen pollution in the river.

Despite the implementation of intensive phosphorus reduction measures, periodic outbreaks of cyanobacterial blooms in large rivers remain a problem in Korea, raising the need for more effective solutions to reduce their occurrence. This study sought to evaluate whether phosphorus or nitrogen limitation is an effective approach to control cyanobacterial (Microcystis) blooms in river conditions that favor this non-nitrogen-fixing genus. These conditions include nutrient enrichment, high water temperature, and thermal stratification during summer. Mesocosm bioassays were conducted to investigate the limiting factors for cyanobacterial blooms in a river reach where severe Microcystis blooms occur annually. We evaluated the effect of five different nitrogen (3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 mg/L) and phosphorus (0.01, 0.02, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 mg/L) concentrations on algae growth. The results indicate that nitrogen treatments stimulated cyanobacteria (mostly Microcystis aeruginosa) more than phosphorus. Interestingly, phosphorus additions did not stimulate cyanobacteria, although it did stimulate Chlorophyceae and Bacillariophyceae. We conclude that phosphorus reduction might have suppressed the growth of Chlorophyceae and Bacillariophyceae more than that of cyanobacteria; therefore, nitrogen or at least both nitrogen and phosphorus control appears more effective than phosphorus reductions alone for reducing cyanobacteria in river conditions that are favorable for non-nitrogen-fixing genera.

PURPOSE: Numerous factors affect the surgical outcomes in patients with adult spinal deformity (ASD). However, no study has examined the relationship between residence and physical factors and surgical outcomes in patients with ASD. Here, we analysed the impact of residence and physical factors on the post-operative outcomes of patients with ASD residing in urban (U) and rural (R) environments. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed data from patients who had undergone ASD surgery with sacropelvic fixation at a single institution between June 2011 and May 2017 with a minimum 1 year follow-up. We divided the patients into two groups (U and R). Preoperative demographic data were reviewed, and radiographic parameters were measured preoperatively, immediately postoperatively, at 1, 3, and 6 months, and at the final follow-up. The L4 axial paraspinal muscles were measured preoperatively using magnetic resonance imaging. RESULTS: There were 25 and 34 patients in the U and R groups, respectively. Both groups had similar preoperative demographic and radiological parameters. There were no differences between the groups in post-operative radiographic parameters, clinical outcomes, and complications, but proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) was significantly higher in the R group. Additionally, muscle mass in the multifidus and erector spinae was lower in the R than in the U group. CONCLUSIONS: Patient residence influenced PJK in patients with ASD. Mass reduction in the trunk extensor muscle is an important and existing risk factor for PJK. Surgeons should be aware of this information for preoperative counselling, informed consent, and post-operative education of patients with ASD. This study examined the distribution of pharmaceuticals in Yeongsan River and at point sources (PSs) in the associated water system, and performed a risk assessment based on our findings. The samples included effluents collected from three sewage treatment plants (PS1, PS2, and PS3) and two industrial complexes (PS4 and PS5) as well as surface water collected from seven mainstreams and 11 tributaries of the river. The target pharmaceuticals were acetylsalicylic acid, carbamazepine, clarithromycin, naproxen, sulfamethazine, sulfamethoxazole, sulfathiazole, and trimethoprim, which were detected by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. All pharmaceuticals except acetylsalicylic acid and sulfathiazole were found in PS1, PS2, and PS3 samples, whereas acetylsalicylic acid, carbamazepine, sulfamethazine, and sulfamethoxazole were found in PS4, most of the pharmaceuticals were not present in PS5. The rank order of pharmaceutical concentration in surface water was carbamazepine (97.2%, 0.2067 µg/L) > sulfamethoxazole (88.9%, 0.1132 µg/L) > naproxen (51.4%, 0.0516 µg/L) > clarithromycin (43.1%, 0.0427 µg/L). The distribution of pharmaceuticals in the Yeongsan River at PSs and non-PSs differed, and higher concentrations of human pharmaceuticals were detected in upstream and midstream areas whereas higher concentrations of animal pharmaceuticals were found downstream. Hazard quotients (HQs) evaluated at each sites based on mean concentration and 95% upper confidence limits (95% UCLs) were all less than one, indicating a low risk of toxicity. The findings of this study are expected to be useful for risk assessment of aquatic ecosystems.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical and radiographic results between open transforaminal interbody fusion (TLIF-O) and minimally invasive TLIF (TLIF-M) for single-level low grade isthmic spondylolisthesis (IS). METHODS: This study enrolled 45 patients who underwent single-level TLIF with low grade IS. The patients were divided into two groups according to operative method: TLIF-M (20 patients) and TLIF-O (25 patients). TLIF-O group was matched with TLIF-M. RESULTS: At one-year postoperatively, there were no significant differences in any radiologic parameters between the two groups. Perioperative results such as blood loss, operation time, and hospital stay were superior in TLIF-M than in TLIF-O. Fusion was achieved in 17 of 20 patients (85.0%) in TLIF-M and 23 of 25 (92.0%) patients in TLIF-O. Back Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores of TLIF-O were significantly lower than TLIF-M at one (back VAS, ODI) and six months (ODI) postoperatively. CONCLUSIONS: TLIF-M and TLIF-O produced similar clinical and radiological outcomes, including reduction of spondylolisthesis and disc space height restoration at one-year follow-up for single-level low grade IS. However, considering perioperative outcomes, back pain, and quality of life, TLIF-M might be a better option for single-level low grade IS compared to TLIF-O.

A doping-modulated carbon nanotube (CNT) electronic device, called a "synapstor," emulates the function of a biological synapse. The CNT synapstor has a field-effect transistor structure with a random CNT network as its channel. An aluminium oxide (Al2 O3 ) film is deposited over half of the CNT channel in the synapstor, converting the covered part of the CNT from p-type to n-type, forming a p-n junction in the CNT channel and increasing the Schottky barrier between the n-type CNT and its metal contact. This scheme significantly improves the postsynaptic current (PSC) from the synapstor, extends the tuning range of the plasticity, and reduces the power consumption of the CNT synapstor. A spike neuromorphic module is fabricated by integrating the CNT synapstors with a Si-based "soma" circuit. Spike parallel processing, memory, and plasticity functions of the module are demonstrated. The module could potentially be integrated and scaled up to emulate a biological neural network with parallel high-speed signal processing, low power consumption, memory, and learning capabilities.

mNOSTRIN is the mouse ortholog of hNOSTRIN. Unlike hNOSTRIN, which is alternatively spliced to produce two isoforms (α and ß), only a single isoform of mNOSTRIN has been detected in either the nucleus or cytoplasm/membrane. Because mNOSTRIN represses its own transcription through direct binding onto its own promoter, this protein is constantly expressed in a temporally regulated pattern during differentiation of F9 embryonic carcinoma cells. In this study, we identified the specific cis-element in the mNOSTRIN regulatory region that is responsible for negative autogenous control. This element exhibits inverted dyad symmetry. Furthermore, we identified a putative bZIP motif in the middle region of mNOSTRIN, which is responsible for DNA binding, and showed that disruption of the leucine zippers abolished the DNA-binding activity of mNOSTRIN. Here, we report that a single form of mNOSTRIN functions in both the nucleus and cytoplasm/membrane. In the nucleus, mNOSTRIN acts as a transcriptional repressor by binding to the cis-element through its bZIP motif.

Apamin is an integral part of bee venom, as a peptide component. It has long been known as a highly selective block Ca(2+)-activated K(+) (SK) channels. However, the cellular mechanism and anti-fibrotic effect of apamin in TGF-ß1-induced hepatocytes have not been explored. In the present study, we investigated the anti-fibrosis or anti-EMT mechanism by examining the effect of apamin on TGF-ß1-induced hepatocytes. AML12 cells were seeded at ∼60% confluence in complete growth medium. Twenty-four hours later, the cells were changed to serum free medium containing the indicated concentrations of apamin. After 30 min, the cells were treated with 2 ng/ml of TGF-ß1 and co-cultured for 48 h. Also, we investigated the effects of apamin on the CCl4-induced liver fibrosis animal model. Treatment of AML12 cells with 2 ng/ml of TGF-ß1 resulted in loss of E-cadherin protein at the cell-cell junctions and concomitant increased expression of vimentin. In addition, phosphorylation levels of ERK1/2, Akt, Smad2/3 and Smad4 were increased by TGF-ß1 stimulation. However, cells treated concurrently with TGF-ß1 and apamin retained high levels of localized expression of E-cadherin and showed no increase in vimentin. Specifically, treatment with 2 µg/ml of apamin almost completely blocked the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, Akt, Smad2/3 and Smad4 in AML12 cells. In addition, apamin exhibited prevention of pathological changes in the CCl4-injected animal models. These results demonstrate the potential of apamin for the prevention of EMT progression induced by TGF-ß1 in vitro and CCl4-injected in vivo.

Microalgae, including cyanobacteria and eukaryotic algae, are hotspots of primary production and play a critical role in global carbon cycling. However, these species often form blooms that poses a threat to aquatic ecosystems. Although the use of bacteria-derived cyanocides is regarded as an environmentally friendly method for controlling cyanobacterial blooms, only a few studies have examined their potential impact on ecosystems. This study is the first to explore the response of particle-attached (PA) and free-living (FL) bacteria to the dynamics of microalgal communities induced by the biological cyanocide paucibactin A. The microalgal community dynamics were divided into two distinct phases [phase I (days 0-2) and phase II (days 3-7)]. In phase I, paucibactin A caused a sudden decrease in the cyanobacterial concentration. Phase II was characterized by increased growth of eukaryotic microalgae (Scenedesmus, Pediastrum, Selenastrum, and Coelastrum). The stability of the bacterial community and the contribution of stochastic processes to community assembly were more pronounced in phase II than in phase I. The microalgal dynamics triggered by paucibactin A coincided with the succession of the PA and FL bacterial communities. The lysis of cyanobacteria in phase I favored the growth of microbial organic matter degraders in both the PA (e.g., Aeromonas and Rheinheimera) and FL (e.g., Vogesella) bacterial communities. In phase II, Lacibacter, Phycisphaeraceae, and Hydrogenophaga in the PA bacterial community and Lacibacter, Peredibacter, and Prosthecobacter in the FL bacterial community showed increased relative abundances. Overall, the FL bacterial community exhibited greater sensitivity to the two sequential processes compared with the PA bacterial community. These results highlight the need for studies evaluating the impact of biological cyanocides on aquatic ecosystems when used to control natural cyanobacterial blooms.

Various environmental factors play a role in the formation and collapse of Microcystis blooms. This study investigates the impact of heavy rainfall on cyanobacterial abundance, microbial community composition, and functional dynamics in the Nakdong River, South Korea, during typical and exceptionally rainy years. The results reveal distinct responses to rainfall variations, particularly in cyanobacterial dominance and physicochemical characteristics. In 2020, characterized by unprecedented rainfall from mid-July to August, Microcystis blooms were interrupted significantly, exhibiting lower cell densities and decreased water temperature, compared to normal bloom patterns in 2019. Moreover, microbial community composition varied, with increases in Gammaproteobacteria and notably in genera of Limnohabitans and Fluviicola. These alterations in environmental conditions and bacterial community were similar to those of the post-bloom period in late September 2019. It shows that heavy rainfall during summer leads to changes in environmental factors, consequently causing shifts in bacterial communities akin to those observed during the autumn-specific post-bloom period in typical years. These changes also accompany shifts in bacterial functions, primarily involved in the degradation of organic matter such as amino acids, fatty acids, and terpenoids, which are assumed to have been released due to the significant collapse of cyanobacteria. Our results demonstrate that heavy rainfall in early summer induces changes in the environmental factors and subsequently microbial communities and their functions, similar to those of the post-bloom period in autumn, leading to the earlier breakdown of Microcystis blooms.

A nonvolatile analog memory transistor is demonstrated by integrating C60 molecules as charge storage molecules in the transistor gate, and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in the transistor channel. The currents through the CNT channel can be tuned quantitatively and reversibly to analog values by controlling the number of electrons trapped in the C60 molecules. After tuning, the electrons trapped in the C60 molecules in the gate, and the current through the CNT channel, can be preserved in a nonvolatile manner, indicating the characteristics of the nonvolatile analog memory.

Renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis is considered to be a common final pathway related to the progressive loss of renal function in chronic kidney disease. It is characterized by the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix through the pivotal role of epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Transforming growth factor-ß1 is postulated to play a central role in renal fibrosis via a downstream pathway such as Smad. Specificity protein 1 (Sp1), which is another transcription factor, is also involved in the basal expression of extracellular matrix. In this study, we investigate the effect of Smad decoy oligodeoxynucleotides (ODN) and Sp1 decoy ODN in unilateral ureteral obstruction induced renal fibrosis in mice. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the newly designed chimeric decoy ODN, which contains both Smad and Sp1 binding sequences in one decoy molecule (Smad/Sp1 chi decoy ODN), was demonstrated. The expression of fibrosis and inflammatory related cytokines and products of fibrosis were ameliorated in the Smad, Sp1 and chimeric decoy ODN treated groups compared with the scrambled decoy ODN treated group. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition was suppressed by the Smad, Sp1 and Smad/Sp1 chi decoy ODN. Immunohistochemistry and Western-blot analysis revealed that Smad/Sp1 chi decoy ODN showed a more significant inhibitory effect on fibrosis and EMT compared with Smad and Sp1 decoy ODNs. These results support the efficacy of Smad/Sp1 chi decoy compared with a single Smad or Sp1 decoy ODNs in preventing renal fibrosis induced by unilateral ureteral obstruction.

Index-matched indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes for capacitive touch screen panels have been fabricated to improve optical transmittance and reduce the difference of reflectance (deltaR) between the etched and un-etched regions. 8.5 nm Nb2O5 and 49 nm SiO2 thin films were deposited by magnetron sputtering as index-matching layers between an ITO electrode and a glass substrate. In case of 30 nm ITO electrode, a 4.3% improvement in the optical transmittance and a deltaR of less than 1% were achieved, along with a low sheet resistance of 90 omega/square.

PURPOSE: The posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) techniques are commonly used surgical methods for wide indications such as degeneration or trauma. Although they are rarely required for lumbar disk disease in younger patients, there are a few children and adolescents who are indicated for PLIF or TLIF for other reasons, such as congenital severe stenosis with or without lumbar instability that requires wide decompression or severe bony spur that need to be removed. In such cases, different pathophysiology and outcomes are expected compared with adult patients. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed data of 23 patients who underwent PLIF or TLIF surgery when less than 20 years old. Clinical and radiographic outcomes were assessed during a mean of 36.4 months follow-up period. The indications of lumbar interbody fusion, success of fusion, complications, and visual analog scale (VAS) were analyzed. RESULTS: Radiographs of all patients taken 6 months after the surgery showed fusion. Clinical outcome was also satisfactory, with improvement of VAS score from 7.7 preoperatively to 2.3 at 6 months after surgery. Only one patient had reoperation due to adjacent segment disease. CONCLUSIONS: For adolescent patients with severe bony spur, massive central disk rupture, or severe spondylolisthesis, lumbar interbody fusion surgery has good surgical outcome with few complications.

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) are a serious threat to ecosystems and human health. The accurate prediction of HABs is crucial for their proactive preparation and management. While mechanism-based numerical modeling, such as the Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code (EFDC), has been widely used in the past, the recent development of machine learning technology with data-based processing capabilities has opened up new possibilities for HABs prediction. In this study, we developed and evaluated two types of machine learning-based models for HABs prediction: Gradient Boosting models (XGBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost) and attention-based CNN-LSTM models. We used Bayesian optimization techniques for hyperparameter tuning, and applied bagging and stacking ensemble techniques to obtain the final prediction results. The final prediction result was derived by applying the optimal hyperparameter and bagging and stacking ensemble techniques, and the applicability of prediction to HABs was evaluated. When predicting HABs with an ensemble technique, it is judged that the overall prediction performance can be improved by complementing the advantages of each model and averaging errors such as overfitting of individual models. Our study highlights the potential of machine learning-based models for HABs prediction and emphasizes the need to incorporate the latest technology into this important field.
