RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare peripheral muscle oxygenation levels and the prevalence of psychological stress in adolescents with and without temporomandibular disorder (TMD). METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed with adolescents submitted into two groups: those diagnosed with TMD (DG) and control (CG). Muscle oxygenation was measured by near-infrared spectroscopy in the masseter and upper trapezius muscles. Symptoms of stress were assessed by Lipp's Stress Symptom Inventory for Adults or Child Stress Scale. A Student t-test was used for intergroup comparisons and association between categorical variables by chi-square test, phi coefficient of correlation, odds ratio, and two-way ANOVA. RESULTS: Fifty-three adolescents were evaluated and a significant reduction was observed in the oxyhemoglobin level in the masseter muscle at rest (p = 0.04) and contraction (p = 0.02). A greater total hemoglobin level was found in the upper trapezius muscle at rest in DG (p = 0.03), with a significant difference in the tissue saturation index during contraction (p = 0.05) intergroup. Individuals in the DG were 4.523 times more likely to exhibit signs and symptoms of stress than in CG. CONCLUSION: Adolescents from DG showed reduced masseter oxyhemoglobin values at rest and during contraction and showed more signs and symptoms of stress than healthy controls. In the upper trapezius, DG showed higher values of total circulating hemoglobin, essential for greater blood flow and efficient maximum voluntary contraction. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Changes in tissue oxygenation and stress in adolescents with TMD prompted the earlier treatment of this population to prevent disease progression into adulthood.

Osseodensification is a novel technique based on nonsubtractive drilling to preserve and condense bone during osteotomy preparation. The aim of this ex vivo study was to compare osseodensification and conventional extraction drilling technique with regard to intraosseous temperatures, expansion of alveolar ridge width, and primary implant stability using different implant geometries: tapered and straight walled. A total of 45 implant sites were prepared in bovine ribs following osseodensification and conventional protocols. Changes in intraosseous temperatures were recorded at 3 depths using thermocouples, and ridge width was measured at 2 different depths before and after osseodensification preparations. The primary implant stability was measured using peak insertion torque and the implant stability quotient (ISQ) following placement of straight and tapered implants. A significant change in temperature was recorded during site preparation for all techniques tested but not at all depths. Osseodensification recorded higher mean temperatures (42.7°C) than conventional drilling, particularly at the midroot level. Statistically significant ridge expansion was observed at both the crestal and apical levels in the osseodensification group. The ISQ values were significantly higher only for tapered implants placed in osseodensification sites when compared with conventional drilling sites; however, there was no difference in the primary stability between tapered and straight implants within the osseodensification group. Within the limitations of the present pilot study, osseodensification was found to increase the primary stability of straight-walled implants without overheating the bone and significantly expanded the ridge width. However, further investigation is required to determine the clinical significance of the bone expansion created by this new technique.

PURPOSE: To investigate the global prevalence of the JP2 genotype of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa). METHODS: A comprehensive electronic search of databases, PUBMED, MEDLINE, EMBASE, BIOSIS, and SCOPUS, was conducted up to August 2021. All published articles and studies were considered, excluding animal studies, editorials, personal opinions, letters to editor, conference abstracts, posters, and those studies without full text. The primary objective of this systematic review was to determine the presence of the JP2 genotype of Aa in the world population. RESULTS: A total of 295 articles were identified, of which 62 were preselected, and 51 were finally included in this review. Due to variable study designs and high heterogeneity, a meta-analysis was not conducted. A total of 9744 subjects were screened for the presence of the JP2 genotype of Aa worldwide, and only 621 cases were found positive. CONCLUSIONS: A relatively high presence of JP2 genotype of Aa was found in subjects from South America, North America, and Africa. There were no studies estimating the presence of the JP2 genotype of Aa in the Oceania region. The heterogeneity and quality of the included publications suggest that caution should be exercised when interpreting the data and that there remains an important need for additional evidence. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Periodontitis is a highly prevalent inflammatory oral disorder with substantial aesthetic, functional, and psychological implications for patients. The JP2 genotype of Aa is implicated in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. To the best of our knowledge, there is a lack of systematic reviews estimating the presence of the JP2 genotype of Aa in the global population. We identified a relatively high presence of the JP2 genotype of Aa in specific geographic areas of the world, and we propose that cross-sectional and longitudinal studies are lacking in the Oceania region and need to be conducted to estimate the presence of the JP2 genotype of Aa in this region.

The performance of the previously optimized magnetic cross-linked enzyme aggregate of Eversa (Eversa-mCLEA) in the enzymatic synthesis of biolubricants by transesterification of waste cooking oil (WCO) with different alcohols has been evaluated. Eversa-mCLEA showed good activities using these alcohols, reaching a transesterification activity with isoamyl alcohol around 10-fold higher than with methanol. Yields of isoamyl fatty acid ester synthesis were similar using WCO or refined oil, confirming that this biocatalyst could be utilized to transform this residue into a valuable product. The effects of WCO/isoamyl alcohol molar ratio and enzyme load on the synthesis of biolubricant were also investigated. A maximum yield of around 90 wt.% was reached after 72 h of reaction using an enzyme load of 12 esterification units/g oil and a WCO/alcohol molar ratio of 1:6 in a solvent-free system. At the same conditions, the liquid Eversa yielded a maximum ester yield of only 34%. This study demonstrated the great changes in the enzyme properties that can be derived from a proper immobilization system. Moreover, it also shows the potential of WCO as a feedstock for the production of isoamyl fatty acid esters, which are potential candidates as biolubricants.

OBJECTIVE: Survivors of childhood leukemia, especially those from low socioeconomic status households, often experience persistent neurocognitive and academic impairment. This study adapted an existing parent training intervention to improve outcomes for low-acculturated, Spanish-speaking Latino parents of children with leukemia and pilot tested that intervention for feasibility. METHODS: Semistructured interviews were conducted with a focus group of 20 Latino parents of children treated for leukemia. Ten Latino families participated in a pilot study of the adapted parenting intervention, consisting of eight sessions over 6 months. RESULTS: Focus groups revealed that parents unanimously supported a parenting intervention but barriers to participation included time constraints, transportation issues, and anxiety in the hospital environment. The parents also highlighted cultural factors that could contribute to the health disparity, such as lack of knowledge and efficacy in facilitating their child's progress with learning and school. In the pilot study, adherence was 90%, establishing feasibility, and the adapted intervention was considered beneficial. The median parenting efficacy scores improved from preintervention to postintervention (median 3.40 vs. 3.94; p < .011), as did parent-reported school functioning of the child (median 50.00 vs. 60.00; p = .088). CONCLUSIONS: This study addressed a health disparity by culturally adapting a parenting intervention, which was designed to improve school functioning, to meet the needs and preferences of low-acculturated, Spanish-speaking families of children with leukemia in Southern California. The pilot study demonstrated that the adapted intervention is feasible and acceptable in the target population. A larger trial is underway to test the efficacy of this adapted parenting intervention.

Objective: This study evaluated human leucocyte antigen-G gene polymorphisms in patients with periodontitis and healthy controls.Material and methods: The insertion/deletion polymorphism of 14 bp and a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) C > G on the position +3142 of the 3' untranslated region of the gene were analyzed in chronic periodontitis (n = 62), aggressive periodontitis (n = 24) patients and healthy individuals (n = 47).Results: Considering the 14 bp insertion/deletion, a significant deviation from Hardy-Weinberg expectations in the chronic periodontitis group was observed, but not in the other groups. No significant deviations were observed in patients and control groups considering the +3142 C > G SNP. A significant increased frequency of homozygotes for the 14 bp deletion allele was observed in the chronic periodontitis group as compared to controls. This group also presented a higher frequency of the deletion allele, which was marginally not significant. Concerning this polymorphism, no significant differences were observed between the aggressive periodontitis and healthy control groups. In addition, no significant differences were seen amongst patients and controls when considering the +3142 C > G frequencies.Conclusion: No differences were found amongst patients and controls when considering the +3142 C > G SNP haplotypes frequencies, but a significant increased frequency of homozygotes for the 14 bp deletion allele was observed in chronic periodontitis patients compared to healthy controls, suggesting a susceptibility role of this polymorphism in the pathogenesis of this condition.

Due to the heterogeneity of oils, the use of mixtures of lipases with different activity for a large number of glycerol-linked carboxylic acids that compose the substrate has been proposed as a better alternative than the use of one specific lipase preparation in the enzymatic synthesis of biodiesel. In this work, mixtures of lipases from different sources were evaluated in their soluble form in the ethanolysis of soybean oil. A mixture of lipases (50% of each lipase, in activity basis) from porcine pancreas (PPL) and Thermomyces lanuginosus lipase (TLL) gave the highest fatty acid ethyl ester (FAEE) yield (around 20 wt.%), while the individual lipases gave FAEE yields 100 and 5 times lower, respectively. These lipases were immobilized individually by the cross-linked enzyme aggregates (CLEAs) technique, yielding biocatalysts with 89 and 119% of expressed activity, respectively. A mixture of these CLEAs (also 50% of each lipase, in activity basis) gave 90.4 wt.% FAEE yield, while using separately CLEAs of PPL and TLL, the FAEE yields were 84.7 and 75.6 wt.%, respectively, under the same reaction conditions. The mixture of CLEAs could be reused (five cycles of 6 h) in the ethanolysis of soybean oil in a vortex flow-type reactor yielding an FAEE yield higher than 80% of that of the first batch.

This retrospective study reports on the survival of two-piece angulated prosthetic platform (APP) implants consecutively placed at a specialist periodontics clinic with a mean follow-up of 28.2 ± 15.6 months (range: 4.0 to 71.0). For 183 returning patients who received 239 implants, the survival rates at follow-up (up to 71 months) were 99.2% and 91.1% at the patient and implant levels, respectively. A majority of patients were nonsmokers and did not have diabetes, with a quarter having a history of treated periodontitis. Eighty percent of patients received a single APP implant. Of the implants, 63% supported a single crown, 28% a fixed partial denture, and 9% a fixed complete denture. Nearly all implants were placed either at tooth extraction or after complete bone healing, in approximately equal numbers. Of the implant sites, approximately 75% received bone grafting, with approximately 25% receiving adjunct soft tissue grafting. For 210 surviving and restored implants with satisfactory intraoral radiographs taken at the last recall (mean follow-up: 28.4 ± 15.5 months; range: 4.0 to 71.0 months), the mean radiographic bone levels were -0.70 ± 0.87 mm (range: -3.60 to 2.15 mm). The results demonstrated clinically successful use of this unique geometry implant for multiple applications with acceptable short- to medium-term clinical outcomes.

This paper aims to investigate the presence of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and to assess potential indicators of the risk of severe form(s) of periodontitis. A descriptive cross-sectional study of 156 consecutive patients with periodontitis was conducted. Subgingival plaque samples were collected from the participants. The identification of A. actinomycetemcomitans was performed using quantitative polymerase chain reaction. A descriptive analysis, a chi-square test, and a binary logistic regression statistical evaluation were performed. The prevalence of A. actinomycetemcomitans in this population of 156 participants was 17.30% (27 patients). The prevalence of stage-III periodontitis was 75.6% and greater in older men, while the prevalence of stage-IV periodontitis was 22.4% and greater in younger women. We observed a significant relation between the risk of severe periodontitis (stage-IV) and poor oral hygiene (p = 0.006), attendance at dental appointments (p ≤ 0.001), and familial history of periodontitis (p = 0.032). In conclusion, twenty-seven individuals were positive for A. actinomycetemcomitans. Poor oral hygiene, family history of periodontitis, and irregular attendance at dental appointments were identified as potential risk factors for severe periodontitis in this cohort.

Mosquitoes are the most notorious arthropod vectors of viral and parasitic diseases for which approximately half the world's population, ~4,000,000,000, is at risk. Integrated pest management programs (IPMPs) have achieved some success in mitigating the regional transmission and persistence of these diseases. However, as many vector-borne diseases remain pervasive, it is obvious that IPMP successes have not been absolute in eradicating the threat imposed by mosquitoes. Moreover, the expanding mosquito geographic ranges caused by factors related to climate change and globalization (travel, trade, and migration), and the evolution of resistance to synthetic pesticides, present ongoing challenges to reducing or eliminating the local and global burden of these diseases, especially in economically and medically disadvantaged societies. Abatement strategies include the control of vector populations with synthetic pesticides and eco-friendly technologies. These "green" technologies include SIT, IIT, RIDL, CRISPR/Cas9 gene drive, and biological control that specifically targets the aquatic larval stages of mosquitoes. Regarding the latter, the most effective continues to be the widespread use of Lysinibacillus sphaericus (Ls) and Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis (Bti). Here, we present a review of the health issues elicited by vector mosquitoes, control strategies, and lastly, focus on the biology of Ls and Bti, with an emphasis on the latter, to which no resistance has been observed in the field.

OBJECTIVE: The present study evaluated the Th1/Th2 cytokine profile in plasma from healthy controls and different types of periodontitis patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The concentration of IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, TNF-α and IFN-γ was determined in healthy controls (n = 18) and patients with chronic (n = 19) and aggressive periodontitis (n = 19) using a flow cytometric multiplex immunoassay. Means and standard deviations were calculated and compared using Kruskal-Wallis test. Spearman rho coefficient was used to correlate cytokines in the studied groups. RESULTS: Although there was no significant difference in the concentration of cytokines between groups, there was a tendency to lower levels of IL-5 and IL-10 in the aggressive periodontitis group. Stronger correlations were observed between IL-2/IL-4 and IL-2/IL-10 in healthy controls (0.938 and 0.669, respectively) compared with chronic (0.746 and 0.532) and aggressive periodontitis groups (0.395 and 0.266). When compared to healthy (0.812) and chronic periodontitis (0.845) groups, the correlation of IL-4/IL-5 was weaker in the aggressive group (0.459). CONCLUSION: No difference between systemic levels of Th1/Th2 was observed. In aggressive periodontitis patients, nevertheless, a trend towards low levels of Th2 cytokines could suggest a contribution to the development of such an exacerbated manifestation of this disease.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate gingival phenotype (GP) and thickness (GT) using visual, probing, and ultrasound (US) methods and to assess the accuracy and consistency of clinicians to visually identify GP. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The GP and GT of maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth in 29 orthodontic patients (mean age 25 ± 7.5 years) were assessed using probing and US by a single examiner. General dentist and dental specialist assessors (n = 104) were shown intraoral photographs of the patients, including six repeated images, and asked to identify the GP via a questionnaire. RESULTS: An increasing trend in GT values of thin, medium, and thick biotype probe categories was found, though this was not statistically significant (P = .188). Comparison of probing method to determinations of GT made by US yielded slight agreement (κ = 0.12). Using the visual method, assessors' identification of the second GP determination ranged from poor to moderate agreement (κ = 0.29 to κ = 0.53). CONCLUSIONS: The probe method is sufficient in differentiating between different categories of GP. However, further research is required to assess the sensitivity of the probe method in recognizing phenotypes in the most marginal of cases. Assessors using the visual method lack the ability to identify GP accurately and consistently among themselves.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the association between the width of keratinized gingiva (WKG), gingival phenotype (GP), and gingival thickness (GT) with craniofacial morphology in sagittal and vertical dimensions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: WKG, GP, and GT of mandibular anterior teeth in 177 preorthodontic patients (mean age 18.38 ± 5.16 years) were assessed clinically using a periodontal probe, a Colorvue Biotype Probe, and ultrasound by a single examiner. Patients were grouped into skeletal Class I, II, and III and hyperdivergent, normodivergent, and hypodivergent based on ANB and SN-MP angles. Mandibular incisor inclination (L1-NB) was also measured. Clinical and cephalometric measurements were repeated to assess inter- and intraexaminer reproducibility. RESULTS: A significant association was found between thin GP and skeletal Classes I and III for the left mandibular central incisor (MCI; P = .0183). In skeletal Class III patients, L1-NB angle demonstrated a decreasing trend as phenotype thickness decreased. A significant association was found between thin phenotype and normodivergent and hypodivergent groups for MCIs (left: P = .0009, right: P = .00253). No significant association between WKG or GT and craniofacial morphology was found. CONCLUSIONS: Thin GP is associated with skeletal Class I and III for the left MCI. Thin GP is associated with hypodivergent and normodivergent skeletal patterns for the MCIs. There was no association between WKG and GT and craniofacial morphology in both skeletal and vertical dimensions. Dental compensations that exist due to different craniofacial morphology may influence the GP.

The three most important commercial bacterial insecticides are all derived from subspecies of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). Specifically, Bt subsp. kurstaki (Btk) and Bt subsp. aizawai (Bta) are used to control larval lepidopteran pests. The third, Bt subsp. israelensis (Bti), is primarily used to control mosquito and blackfly larvae. All three subspecies produce a parasporal body (PB) during sporulation. The PB is composed of insecticidal proteins that damage the midgut epithelium, initiating a complex process that results in the death of the insect. Among these three subspecies of Bt, Bti is unique as it produces the most complex PB consisting of three compartments. Each compartment is bound by a multilaminar fibrous matrix (MFM). Two compartments contain one protein each, Cry11Aa1 and Cyt1Aa1, while the third contains two, Cry4Aa1/Cry4Ba1. Each compartment is packaged independently before coalescing into the mature spherical PB held together by additional layers of the MFM. This distinctive packaging process is unparalleled among known bacterial organelles, although the underlying molecular biology is yet to be determined. Here, we present structural and molecular evidence that the MFM has a hexagonal pattern to which Bti proteins Bt152 and Bt075 bind. Bt152 binds to a defined spot on the MFM during the development of each compartment, yet its function remains unknown. Bt075 appears to be derived from a bacteriophage major capsid protein (MCP), and though its sequence has markedly diverged, it shares striking 3-D structural similarity to the Escherichia coli phage HK97 Head 1 capsid protein. Both proteins are encoded on Bti's pBtoxis plasmid. Additionally, we have also identified a six-amino acid motif that appears to be part of a novel molecular process responsible for targeting the Cry and Cyt proteins to their cytoplasmic compartments. This paper describes several previously unknown features of the Bti organelle, representing a first step to understanding the biology of a unique process of sorting and packaging of proteins into PBs. The insights from this research suggest a potential for future applications in nanotechnology.

C5a is a powerful complement effector molecule that is considered to be an important proinflammatory mediator in several systemic chronic inflammatory diseases. However, its levels in periodontal diseases are yet to be assessed. We aimed to analyse the secretion of C5a in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and saliva of patients with periodontal disease. Twenty-eight patients diagnosed with stage 3-4 periodontitis and 16 periodontally healthy subjects participated in this study. GCF was collected from sites with the deepest probing depth of each patient, and volume was measured using a Periotron 8000®. One mL of unstimulated saliva was also collected. Samples were analysed using a commercially available ELISA kit. The data were analysed using the Mann-Whitney U test, Pearson's bivariate testing, and receiver operating characteristic curve. C5a was present in GCF from patients with periodontitis (1.06 ± 0.25 ng/mL) whilst it was undetected in controls. Saliva concentration was also significantly higher in periodontitis (1.82 ± 2.31 ng/mL) than controls (0.60 ± 0.72 ng/mL, p = 0.006). C5a levels were more pronounced in periodontitis in both oral fluids assessed by the present pilot study. These results suggest that the more pronounced levels of C5a in oral fluids from periodontitis patients indicate a potential role of this molecule in this disease pathogenesis, deserving to be better explored in subsequent studies.

This study examined the success rates of single immediate implants and their associated biological, hardware and aesthetic complications. Using a developed search strategy, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on single-unit immediate implants with at least six human participants, a minimum follow-up time of 12 months and published between January 1999 and January 2021 were identified. Data was extracted independently using pre-designed data extraction forms. Information on success rates and associated biological, hardware and aesthetic complications were obtained and assessed. Out of 191 potentially eligible studies, 26 RCTs assessing 1270 patients with a total of 1326 single implants were included and further evaluated. In this review, success rate was reported to be 96.7-100% over a total of 9 studies. However, there was a lack of consensus on a universal success criterion between authors emphasizing the need for agreement. The average follow up was 29 months and most reported complications were aesthetic (63 cases, 4.7%), whilst there were relatively fewer biological, (20 cases, 1.5%), and hardware complications (24 cases, 1.8%). Success rate is an uncommon clinical outcome with 9 out of 26 of the selected RCTs reporting it. In these studies, single immediate implants showed a high success rate with low numbers of biological and hardware complications, and high patient satisfaction with aesthetics were reported in the short-term follow-up of one year.

OBJECTIVE: To verify the difference between the masticatory muscles' electrical activity, stress signals and the posture of preadolescents and adolescents with and without temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD). METHODS: 24 preadolescents and adolescents aged between 11 and 18 years old were divided into two groups, TMD group (TMDG) and control group (CG). All subjects were submitted to anthropometric measurements, psychological stress analysis, temporomandibular joint clinical evaluation and TMD verification; postural evaluation and masseter and temporal muscles electrical activity analysis during chewing. For statistical analysis, the Student's t-test or Mann-Whitney U test were used according to data distribution. RESULTS: There was a significant difference between the groups for the electrical activity of the right temporal muscles (7.43% ± 2.92 vs. 11.71% ± 5.37) and left (7.70% ± 4.04 vs.11.44% ± 4.03) in the inactive period of chewing between CG and TMDG, respectively. There was no difference in stress or posture variables between groups. CONCLUSIONS: During the inactive period of chewing, there was greater activation of the temporal muscles in the TMDG. Female gender was prevalent in TMDG. The study participants showed signs of stress, regardless of the group. The posture and TMD relationship still need to be studied.

BACKGROUND: Sjögren's syndrome (SjS) is a systemic autoimmune disease that might lead to hyposalivation and negatively affect the oral environment. The evidence with regard to the periodontal conditions in this group of subjects is still controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the periodontal clinical conditions and inflammatory markers in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) from patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (SjS [P]) or secondary Sjögren's syndrome (SjS [S]) compared to a control group. METHODS: Nineteen individuals with SjS (11 SjS [P] and eight SjS [S]) and 19 controls, matched for gender, age, and tobacco exposure, were selected from two private clinics and a hospital. The groups were compared for stimulated whole saliva (SWS) flow rate, plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP), clinical attachment level (CAL), and total amount of interleukin (IL)-1beta and total elastase activity in the GCF. Generalized estimating equations were used for data analysis. RESULTS: Individuals with SjS had a significantly lower SWS flow rate and higher mean PI, GI, PD, CAL, and BOP than controls. After adjustment for plaque, GI remained significantly higher in patients with SjS. Patients with SjS (S) had significantly higher mean CAL and PD than patients with SjS (P), and CAL and BOP remained significantly higher in this subgroup after adjustment. No differences were observed with regard to the GCF inflammatory markers. After adjusting for PD, subjects with SjS (P) showed lower levels of IL-1beta compared to controls. CONCLUSION: SjS seemed to negatively affect the periodontal condition because gingival inflammation was more evident in the individuals with SjS, particularly those with SjS (S).

BACKGROUND: Poor flexibility is considered a risk factor for the hamstring strain injury, and the active straight leg raise (ASLR) test proposed as a part of the Functional Movement Screen™ (FMS™) has been used to assess athletes hamstring flexibility. However, the accuracy of this screening test remains undescribed. PURPOSE: To examine the accuracy of the FMS™ ASLR test for assessment of hamstring flexibility in soccer players. STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. METHODS: One-hundred and one male soccer players (age, 21 ± 3 years; height, 179 ± 7 cm; weight, 75 ± 9 kg) were bilaterally evaluated. All players performed a gold standard test for hamstring flexibility evaluation: the passive straight leg raise (PSLR) test measured using a gravitational inclinometer. All players also performed the ASLR test and were scored using the criteria proposed by the FMS™. RESULTS: Of the 202 lower limbs evaluated, 17.82% scored a 1 on the ASLR [mean passive flexibility: 80.44 ± 14.69 ° (55 °-110 °)], 50.99% scored a 2 on the ASLR [mean passive flexibility = 84.60 ± 10.59 ° (56 °-115 °)], and 31.18% scored a 3 on the ASLR [mean passive flexibility = 92.32 ± 11.53 ° (70 °-120 °)]. Limbs with FMS™ score of 3 presented significantly higher values for passive flexibility than limbs with scores of 1 and 2 (p < 0.05), but there was no significant difference between limbs with scores of 1 and 2 (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The score obtained in the FMS™ ASLR test does not satisfactorily stratify the level of hamstring flexibility in soccer players. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 3a.

Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is an endemic systemic mycosis that is of great importance in Latin America. Its occurrence in solid organ transplantation (SOT) is rare, but with high mortality rate. In this report, we describe a case of PCM in a liver transplant recipient 19 months after transplantation. The patient presented with multiple skin abscesses, arthritis, osteolytic lesions, and pulmonary and adrenal involvement. Despite the presence of disseminated disease and the patient's immunosuppressed condition, the patient responded well to prolonged antifungal treatment with no sequelae, thus suggesting that early diagnosis and correct treatment may lead to favorable outcomes in SOT recipients with PCM.
