BACKGROUND: Sex chromosome abnormalities associated with disorders of sexual development (DSD) are rarely described in cats, mainly due to the lack of chromossome studies that precisely reveal the condition. Genetic approaches are therefore required in order to detect sex chromossomes abnormalities as variations in the number and structure of chromosomes, or the presence of a second cell line as mosaicim or chimerism. CASE PRESENTATION: A male Shorthair cryptorchid cat was presented with clinical signs of anorexia, tenesmus and hyperthermia. Ultrasonography revealed a fluid-filled structure, with approximately 1 cm in diameter, adjacent to the descending colon. Computed tomography evidenced a tubular structure, ventral to the descending colon and caudal to the bladder, which extended cranially, through two branches. Histopathological evaluation confirmed the presence of two atrophic uterine horns and one hypoplastic testicle with epididymis at the end of one of the uterine horns. The end of the other uterine horn was attached to a structure composed by a mass of adipocytes. Cytogenetic analysis revealed a mosaic 37,X/38,XY karyotype. The two cell lines were found in 15% and 85% of the lymphocytes, respectively. Genetic analysis confirmed the presence of SRY and ZFY genes in blood and hair bulbs, and revealed a marked reduction in SRY expression in the testicle. Additionally, this case presented exceptionally rare features, such as a Leydig' cell tumour and a chronic endometritis in both uterine horns. CONCLUSIONS: Complete imaging workup, cytogenetic analysis and SRY gene expression should be systematically realized, in order to properly classify disorders of sexual development (DSD) in cats.

BACKGROUND: The lips are the transition zone between the facial skin and the oral mucosa and are the site of alterations related to a broad spectrum of etiologies. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) are the most prevalent neoplasms affecting lips. This study evaluated the demographic and clinicopathological features of the SCC and BCC in the lip. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional descriptive study (1994-2019) was carried out. Demographic and clinicopathologic data were collected from a hospital's dermatological service and an oncologic hospital. The data were submitted to descriptive analysis and Pearson's chi-square and Fisher's exact tests (p ≤ 0.05). RESULTS: 417 medical records were analyzed, of which 323 corresponded to SCC (77.5%) and 94 to BCC (22.5%). SCC showed more frequency in males (58.8%) and BCC in females (54.3%). The lower lip was significantly affected in male patients (p < 0.0001) and by both neoplasms (70.6% and 56.4%, respectively; p = 0.014). SCC and BCC were mainly treated with surgery (88.3% and 93.2%, respectively). Surgical margin was frequently negative in SCC and BCC (87%; 72.3%, respectively), and no recurrence was observed in 79.9% of SCC and 69.1% of BCC cases. CONCLUSIONS: SCC was more frequent in male patients, while BCC showed more frequency in female patients. Both neoplasms mainly affect the lower lip. Understanding the epidemiological profile of these lesions in the lip, as well as their etiology and clinical features, is fundamental for appropriate clinical conduct and the creation and/or amplification of preventive measures.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the clinicopathological features of mucocutaneous diseases with manifestation in the head and neck region. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis of a dermatology reference center database was carried out. Over 24 years. Clinicopathological data were collected from medical records and the data was analyzed by descriptive statistics. RESULTS: A total of 11.538 medical records were analyzed, being 152 cases of mucocutaneous diseases with manifestations in the head and neck region. Cutaneous lupus erythematosus was the most prevalent diagnosis (66.4%). Face (44.1%), females (79.6%), and patients with 45 years mean age were the most common features. In the oral cavity, the most affected region was the buccal mucosa (37.5%). CONCLUSIONS: Mucocutaneous diseases with head and neck manifestation were rare in the sample analyzed (1.3%), with cutaneous lupus erythematosus and lichen planus being the most common lesions in this region.

Chitosan (CS) is a promising biopolymer and has been tested as a complement to the action and compensation of toxicity presented by anti-tuberculosis drugs. The present work studied the adjuvant effect of CS with the drug ethambutol (EMB) as a compound (CS-EMB), to explore its antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity, using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), to examine ultracellular changes that represent possible antimycobacterial action of CS on Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). Antimycobacterial activities were tested against reference strains Mtb ATCC® H37Rv and multidrug resistant (MDR). In vitro cytotoxicity tests were performed on Raw 264.7. For the studied compounds, morphological, ultrastructural, and physical-chemical analyses were performed. Drug-polymer interactions that occur through the H bridges were confirmed by physical-chemical analyses. The CS-EMB compound is stable at pHs of 6.5-7.5, allowing its release at physiological pH. The antibacterial activity (minimum inhibitory concentration) of the CS-EMB compound was 50% greater than that of the EMB in the H37Rv and MDR strains and the ultrastructural changes in the bacilli observed by TEM proved that the CS-EMB compound has a bactericidal action, allowing it to break down the Mtb cell wall. The cytotoxicity of CS-EMB was higher than that of isolated EMB, IC50 279, and 176 µg/mL, respectively. It is concluded that CS-EMB forms a promising composite against strains Mtb H37Rv and multidrug resistant (MDR-TB).Key points• Our study will be the first to observe ultrastructurally the effects of the CS-EMB compound on Mtb cells.• CS-EMB antimicrobial activity in a multidrug-resistant clinical strain.• The CS-EMB compound has promising potential for the development of a new drug to fight tuberculosis.

In January 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) identified a new zoonotic virus, SARS-CoV-2, responsible for causing the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019). Since then, there has been a collaborative trend between the scientific community and industry. Multidisciplinary research networks try to understand the whole SARS-CoV-2 pathophysiology and its relationship with the different grades of severity presented by COVID-19. The scientific community has gathered all the data in the quickly developed vaccines that offer a protective effect for all variants of the virus and promote new diagnostic alternatives able to have a high standard of efficiency, added to shorter response analysis time and portability. The industry enters in the context of accelerating the path taken by science until obtaining the final product. In this review, we show the principal diagnostic methods developed during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, when we observe the diagnostic tools section of an efficient infection outbreak containment report and the features required for such tools, we could observe a highlight of electrochemical biosensing platforms. Such devices present a high standard of analytical performance, are low-cost tools, easy to handle and interpret, and can be used in the most remote and low-resource regions. Therefore, probably, they are the ideal point-of-care diagnostic tools for pandemic scenarios.

BACKGROUND: The border area between French Guiana and Brazil is an active HIV-transmission zone. The aim of the present study was to describe HIV knowledge, risk and the level of stigma among inhabitants of this border area. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 621 inhabitants over 18 years of age in the border cities of Saint-Georges-de-l'Oyapock in French Guiana and Oiapoque in Brazil. It was conducted between October 2017 and February 2018. An anonymous standardized questionnaire was filled out by culturally-trained mediators, then analyzed using STATA 12. RESULTS: Almost half (45.9%) of the individuals had a low education level. Participants whose native language was Portuguese or French demonstrated better HIV knowledge than other populations, notably native Amerindian and creole-speaking people. HIV risk behavior was more frequent in men and in younger age groups. People with good HIV knowledge reported having performed more HIV tests in the last year than participants with poor knowledge. The stigma level was high and reported in 74.8% of respondents. CONCLUSIONS: These results illustrate the need for initiatives to improve HIV prevention among autochthonous populations on both sides of this border area. Cross-border collaboration on health policies could produce common key messages adapted to the education level and multi-linguistic populations who live in this area.

Type 1 insulin-like growth factor receptor (IGF-1R) is overexpressed in a variety of human cancers, including adrenocortical tumors. The aim of the work was to investigate the effects of IGF-1R downregulation in a human adrenocortical cell line by small interfering RNA (siRNA). The human adrenocortical tumor cell line NCI H295R was transfected with 2 specific IGF1R siRNAs (# 1 and # 2) and compared with untreated cells and a negative control siRNA. IGF1R expression was determined by quantitative reverse-transcription PCR (qRTPCR) and Western blot. The effects of IGF-1R downregulation on cell proliferation and apoptosis were assessed. IGF-1R levels were significantly decreased in cells treated with IGF-1R siRNA # 1 or # 2. Relative expression of IGF1R mRNA decreased approximately 50% and Western blot analysis revealed a 30% of reduction in IGF-1R protein. Downregulation of this gene resulted in 40% reduction in cell growth in vitro and 45% increase in apoptosis using siRNA # 2. These findings demonstrate that decreasing IGF-1R mRNA and protein expression in NCI H295R cells can partially inhibit adrenal tumor cell growth in vitro. Targeting IGF1R is a promising therapy for pediatric malignant adrenocortical tumor and can still be an option for adult adrenocortical cancer based on personalized genomic tumor profiling.

BACKGROUND: Sequential therapy is a first-line regimen obtaining satisfactory Helicobacter pylori eradication. Triple therapy prolongation improves the success rate even if a recent meta-analysis showed satisfying results only for the 14-day regimen. Studies from Africa and North America were unavailable in previous meta-analyses. AIM: To perform a meta-analysis comparing sequential vs. prolonged 14-day triple therapy with regard to 'geographic weighting' by considering subgroups analysis according to metronidazole/clarithromycin low and high resistance areas. METHODS: Based on PRISMA recommendations, we considered all first-line clinical studies from 2003 to November 2014. Randomised clinical trials (RCTs) were included by a search on PubMed, MEDLINE, Science Direct, EMBASE. Data on eradication rates were expressed as ITT. Risk ratio (RR), pooled RR and 95% confidence intervals were calculated by the Mantel-Haenszel method. Data were entered into RevMan 5.2 software (Nordic Cochrane Centre) using a random-effects model. RESULTS: Databases identified 194 studies; seven met the inclusion criteria. Overall results showed a similar effectiveness of the two regimens considered (RR = 0.99; 95% CI = 0.94-1.05; p = 0.75). In areas with high resistance to clarithromycin, sequential was superior to 14-day triple therapy (RR = 0.95; 95% CI = 0.90-1.00; p = 0.03). In areas with high metronidazole resistance, sequential and 14-day triple therapy were equivalent (RR = 0.99; 95% CI = 0.91-1.08; p = 0.82). CONCLUSIONS: 'Geographic weighting' could be the main factor affecting the lack of differences between sequential and 14-day triple therapy outcomes.

AIMS: To analyse the performance of RT-qPCR using 85B mRNA in the diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and in the assessment of the response to treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). METHODS AND RESULTS: Ninety-eight patients with signs of pulmonary TB were selected: 56 were considered infected with Myco. tuberculosis and they had positive cultures or evident clinical response to anti-TB treatment. Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis were evaluated by culture and RT-qPCR for a 30-day specific treatment. It was found that both tests demonstrated a decline in viable bacilli at 15 and 30 days after the beginning of the therapy in most of the patients. The quantification of the 85B mRNA target was performed in 52 patients who had initially shown positive results by RT-qPCR and who were followed on the days 15 and 30 after the specific treatment. Thus 85B mRNA was detectable in sputum samples in 52 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis on day 0. During the specific treatment the 85B mRNA was detectable in 13 patients on day 15 and in only three patients on day 30. CONCLUSIONS: Mycobacterium tuberculosis mRNA in the sputum is a useful prognostic marker and its quantification, an early and reliable indicator for monitoring response to treatment, drug resistance, re-infection and relapse. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: RT-qPCR is a tool that can be used in clinical and therapeutic monitoring as an indicator of bacterial resistance and indicator of the period of transmissibility of Myco. tuberculosis in patients with pulmonary TB undergoing treatment.

OBJECTIVES: The relationship between hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM 2) is still uncertain. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between HCV infection, measured as positivity to anti-HCV antibodies, and the incidence of DM 2 in a cohort of subjects sampled from the general population and followed up for 20 years. METHODS: At baseline, the cohort consisted of a random sample of 2,472 subjects (72% response rate, age range 30-69 years) from the electoral register of a town in Southern Italy. The cohort subjects were examined three times: in 1985 (M1), in 1992 (M2), and in 2005 (M3). At M1, M2, and M3, each participant filled in a questionnaire and had a blood sample taken to measure blood glucose and other serum variables including glutamic pyruvic alanine aminotransferase (ALT). Anti-HCV antibodies were analyzed with standard techniques at M1 and M2. Diabetes type 2 diagnosis was a history of diabetes and/or serum glucose ≥126 mg/dl and/or treatment with insulin or hypoglycemic drugs. Logistic regression was used for multivariable data analysis. RESULTS: Diabetes prevalence was higher in subjects with positive anti-HCV antibodies at M1 and M2, and diabetes incidence was higher in subjects with baseline positive anti-HCV antibodies at M1-M2 and lower at M2-M3. In multivariable models, controlling for gender, age, and body mass index (BMI), there was no association between incident cases of diabetes and positive anti-HCV antibodies at baseline, either at M1-M2 (odds ratio (OR) 0.73, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.43-1.22) or at M2-M3 (0.65, 0.41-1.04). HCV was associated with DM 2 only in subjects with elevated ALT (OR 0.58, 95% CI 0.31-1.08, if ALT normal; OR 1.47, 95% CI 1-2.16, if ALT elevated, controlling for age, gender, and BMI). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings, in a cohort study at population level, support an association between the presence of anti-HCV antibodies at baseline and a higher incidence of type 2 diabetes in the following 20 years only in subjects with elevated ALT.

AIM: Evaluate the IS6110-Taqman system performance in sputum samples from patients with pulmonary tuberculosis from health services in north-eastern Brazil as a diagnostic laboratory tool for pulmonary tuberculosis. METHODS AND RESULTS: 165 sputum samples from respiratory symptomatic patients were evaluated in the IS6110-TaqMan assay: 66 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and 99 without TB. When the IS6110-TaqMan assay was evaluated using culture and/or clinical response to the specific treatment as the gold standard, IS6110-TaqMan assay obtained a sensitivity of 87.9% and specificity of 98%. The performance of IS6110-TaqMan assay was also evaluated with the sputum smear microscopy, resulting in a sensitivity of 79.7% and specificity 94.8%. CONCLUSIONS: The IS6110-TaqMan was rapid, sensitive and specific for the diagnosis of pulmonary TB. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: IS6110-TaqMan assay is a promising auxiliary tool for the diagnosis of pulmonary TB when used in conjunction with routine laboratory tests, clinical and epidemiological criteria of the patient, thus increasing the sensitivity and specificity of diagnosis.

For sunscreens to be safe and effective, the lowest possible UV-filter percutaneous absorption should be achieved. In this paper, we evaluated in vitro release and permeation through human skin of two UV-filters, octyl methoxycinnammate (OMC) and butyl methoxydibenzoyl methane (BMBM) from six commercial O/W emulsions and we estimated their margin of safety (MoS). OMC and BMBM in vitro release and skin permeation were investigated in Franz-type diffusion cells and permeation data were used to calculate MoS. OMC in vitro skin permeation depended on both its concentration and vehicle composition while BMBM skin permeation depended on its release from the vehicle. MoS values were well beyond the lowest limit accepted for safe products. Although sunscreen skin permeation may depend on many factors, the commercial products investigated are safe under normal "in use" conditions.

An 83-year-old Ecuadorian male, indigent with a history of malnutrition and chronic alcoholism, presented with a clinical feature characterized by progressive growth of larvae at the left eye level (LE), associated with areas of ocular tissue putrefaction. Upon admission, his vision in the right eye (RE) was of hand movement and no light perception in LE, the anterior segment of the RE showed a brunescent cataract, with no other alteration, while the LE presented edema, bipalpebral erythema and an abundant number of mobile larvae distributed throughout the orbit, associated with areas of necrosis, putrefaction and distortion of the anatomy of the ocular tissues. Orbital tomography showed a significant compromise of the orbit, indicating surgical management by left orbital exenteration with taxonomic identification of the larvae as Dermatobia hominis associated with it, antibiotic treatment was implemented and a frontal fasciocutaneous flap was performed by the plastic surgery department.

The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the permeation of the antioxidant agent Idebenone (IDE) loaded into solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) across MDCKII-MDR1 cell monolayer, selected as an in vitro model of the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB). SLN were prepared using cetyl palmitate as solid lipid and different non-ionic surfactants, oleth-20, ceteth-20 and isoceth-20, by the phase inversion temperature (PIT) technique. The resulting SLN showed physiological pH and osmolarity values, a mean particle diameter in the range of 33-63 nm, a single peak in size distribution, and a zeta potential ranging from +3.14 to -2.89 mV. When incubating these SLN in Simulated Body Fluid (SBF), the particle size was maintained for all samples throughout the study. IDE permeability across MDCKII-MDR1 cell monolayers from the SLN under investigation was 0.40-0.53 fold lower than free IDE and no significant difference was observed comparing IDE permeation from all the SLN tested. It is noteworthy that IDE loading into SLN avoided the use of an organic solvent to solubilize IDE, a poor water soluble compound, allowing the parenteral administration of this drug in aqueous vehicles. Furthermore, the results of in vitro transport studies, performed using fluorescein-dextran 4000 (FD4) and diazepam (DZ) as markers of the paracellular pathway and the transcellular pathway, respectively, pointed out that IDE could permeate via a transcellular pathway. Therefore, these novel nanocarriers could be regarded as a promising strategy to design delivery systems for IDE administration to the brain, deserving further investigations under in vivo conditions.

Milk proteins determine important milk technological characteristics. Among caseins, Ƙ-casein has been correlated with fat and protein content and cheese yield. Fourteen Ƙ-caseins variants have been described but the alleles A, B and E are the most important ones due to their frequency and/or influence on the technological aptitudes of milk. Therefore, in the present study two different duplex qPCR assays with locked nucleic acid probes (for positions 13104 and 13124 of the Ƙ-casein gene) were developed for the detection of A, B and E variants. Firstly, DNA isolation method from milk somatic cells and hair was optimised. The developed 13124-qPCR assay showed an increased sensitivity reaching up to 6.7 copies DNA copies/reaction at a 95% confidence level with A, B and E alleles reference samples. The 13104-qPCR assay reached up to 6.7 DNA copies/reaction for A allele reference sample and 67 DNA copies/reaction for B and E samples. Intra-assay variation results were below 6%. Applicability was determined using DNA samples from animals with known genotype for Ƙ-casein (AA, AB, BB, BE, AE, EE) and both assays were able to discriminate among the six genotypes with 100% accuracy. Thus, this qPCR method represents a sensitive and rapid option for the detection of Ƙ-casein alleles in both hair and milk samples.

Polycythaemia vera is a common haematological proliferative disorder. It is characterised by uncontrolled red cell production with ensuing peri-operative vaso-occlusive and haemorrhagic complications. Spinal haematoma after neuraxial anaesthesia is rare; most cases are associated with technical difficulties or bleeding disorders. Current consensus opinion suggests that neuraxial anaesthesia in patients with polycythaemia vera is safe due to a lower risk of thrombotic events and hypoxaemia compared with general anaesthesia. We report a case of a spinal subarachnoid haematoma after uneventful neuraxial anaesthesia in a patient with optimised polycythaemia vera. Despite an emergent laminectomy, the patient developed permanent motor deficits. This report highlights that although neuraxial anaesthesia is recommended by many authors, patients with polycythaemia vera can paradoxically have an increased haemorrhagic risk from platelet dysfunction and acquired von Willebrand disease. Clinicians proceeding with surgery under neuraxial anaesthesia should appreciate these risks even in patients with normal or apparently elevated thrombotic states. This case also demonstrates that traditional coagulation tests may need to be complemented by pre-operative platelet function tests and screening for von Willebrand disease. Finally, the importance of the patient participation in the choice of the anaesthesia technique cannot be understated, with specific attention paid to this frequently unrecognised risk.

This study reports the development of a new PCR-free device, using IS6110 gene as biomarker, for Tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis. An arginine film (ARGFILM) was used to prepare the biosensor platform. MT-probe was immobilized on this biosensor platform to identify IS6110 gene. This gene is an excellent biomarker for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MT). Electrochemical analyses were carried out using differential pulse voltammetry method (DPV) by methylene blue (MB) reduction signal measurement before and after hybridization either between probe and synthetic target or extracted DNA from clinical sputum samples. The optimization study of MT-probe immobilization on modified-electrode surface showed that the best probe concentration was 15 µM. The analytical analysis of hybridization assays was performed using different concentrations of synthetic MT-target (15-500 nM). The linear response was between 15 and 100 nM and the detection limit was 4.4 nM. The biosensor performance was also investigated with extracted DNA from sputum samples (PCR-free). The results showed that the biosensor was able to detect the MT from samples, exhibiting a high sensitivity and satisfactory selectivity. Thus, these results allow for the possibility of developing a portable detection device for effective diagnosis of TB patients.

The effects of different emulsifiers on the in vitro permeation through human skin of two sunscreen agents [octylmethoxycinnamate (OMC) and butylmethoxydibenzoylmethane (BMBM)] were investigated from O/W emulsions. The test formulations were prepared using the same oil and aqueous phase ingredients and the following emulsifier and coemulsifier systems: Emulgade SE((R)) (ceteareth-12 and ceteareth-20 and cetearyl alcohol and cetyl palmitate) and glycerylmonostearate (emulsion 1); Brij 72((R)) (steareth-2), Brij 721((R)) (steareth-21) and cetearyl alcohol (emulsion 2); Phytocream((R)) (potassium palmitoyl-hydrolysed wheat protein and glyceryl stearate and cetearyl alcohol) and glycerylmonostearate (emulsion 3); Montanov 68((R)) (cetearyl glucoside and cetearyl alcohol) (emulsion 4); Xalifin-15((R)) (C(15-20) acid PEG-8 ester) and cetearyl alcohol (emulsion 5). The cumulative amount of OMC that permeated in vitro through human skin after 22 h from the formulations being tested decreased in the order 3 > 1 congruent with 4 > 5 > 2 and was about nine-fold higher from emulsion 3 compared with that from emulsion 2. As regards BMBM, no significant difference was observed as regards its skin permeation from emulsions 1, 3, 4 and 5, whereas formulation 2 allowed significantly lower amounts of BMBM to permeate the skin. In vitro release experiments of OMC and BMBM from emulsions 1-6 through cellulose acetate membranes showed that only emulsions 4 and 5 provided pseudo-first-order release rates only for OMC. The results of this study suggest that the type of emulsifying systems used to prepare an O/W emulsion may strongly affect sunscreen skin permeation from these formulations. Therefore, the vehicle effects should be carefully considered in the formulation of sunscreen products.

PURPOSE: It is well known that total knee replacement surgery decreases pain and improves function, but the effect on postural assessment needs to be studied better with the use of new technological devices. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) improves motor coordination and stability of the knee. On the other hand, changing joint functionality can modify the balance. The aim of this trial is to record and analyze the static and dynamic baropodometric data of patients in the first few months following joint replacement. For the physiatrist, this tool can be useful to check if the rehabilitation treatment protocols and times are correct. METHODS: We designed a prospective observation longitudinal study to assess postural stability following TKA. Between December 2014 and May 2015, sixty consecutive patients were recruited through local orthopedic physician offices and hospitals. The patients scheduled to undergo TKA were recruited and were monitored before surgery (T0) and at 1 (T1), 3 (T2) and 6 months (T3) after knee surgery. The correction of varus/valgus deviation at X-ray and the Knee Society Score were performed to verify the functional recovery. We used static and dynamic baropodometric analysis to evaluate postural assessment. RESULTS: After surgery, there was a significant improvement in physiological alignment of knee axes (p < 0.0001) and of Knee and Function Scores (excellent, mean values 80.5 and 80.7, respectively, p < 0.0001). The static analysis showed that the center of gravity and the pressure on the foot of the operated limb were corrected toward the physiological center (p < 0.0001) and the body weight displaced to the forefeet and to the hindfeet reduced bilaterally (p < 0.0001). The type of footprint did not change. The dynamic analysis confirmed the significant normalization of the pressure on the foot of the operated limb at all follow-ups (p < 0.0001). The percentage of load was reduced on the operated limb (p = 0.0096) and speed of step, cadence and semi-step length increased (p < 0.0001). CONCLUSION: These data show the progressive recovery of stability after TKA from the immediate postoperative to the subsequent months. The clinical and functional improvement correlated with a load redistribution between the two limbs. The baropodometry could be an excellent noninvasive method for monitoring effects of rehabilitation treatment.
