RESUMEN

A novel cobalt hydrogen-bonded organic framework (Co-HOF, C24H14CoN4O8) was synthesized from a mixed linker, that is, 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid (PDC) and 2,2'-bipyridyl (BPY) linkers and cobalt ion through a simple, one-pot, low-cost, and scalable solvothermal method. The Co-HOF was fully characterized using several analytical and spectroscopic techniques including single-crystal X-ray diffraction, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The Co-HOF exhibits high thermal and chemical stabilities compared to previously reported HOF materials. Moreover, Co-HOF shows excellent photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation due to its narrow band gap of 2.05 eV. The cycloaddition reaction of CO2 to variable epoxides was investigated to evaluate the photocatalytic performance of Co-HOF under visible light radiation and was found to produce the corresponding cyclic carbonates in yields up to 99.9%.

RESUMEN

N-arylcyanothioformamides are useful coupling components for building key chemical intermediates and biologically active molecules in an expedited and efficient manner. Similarly, substituted (Z)-2-oxo-N-phenylpropanehydrazonoyl chlorides have been utilized in numerous one-step heteroannulation reactions to assemble the structural core of several different types of heterocyclic compounds. Herein, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the reaction of N-arylcyanothioformamides with various substituted (Z)-2-oxo-N-phenylpropanehydrazonoyl chlorides to produce, stereoselectively and regioselectively, a range of 5-arylimino-1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives decorated with a multitude of functional groups on both aromatic rings. The synthetic methodology features mild room-temperature conditions, large substrate scope, wide array of functional groups on both reactants, and good to high reaction yields. The products were isolated by gravity filtration in all cases and structures were confirmed by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and high accuracy mass spectral analysis. Proof of molecular structure of the isolated 5-arylimino-1,3,4-thiadiazole regioisomer was obtained for the first time by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Crystal-structure determination was carried out on (Z)-1-(5-((3-fluorophenyl)imino)-4-(4-iodophenyl)-4,5-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)ethan-1-one and (Z)-1-(4-phenyl-5-(p-tolylimino)-4,5-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)ethan-1-one. Similarly, the tautomeric structures of the N-arylcyanothioformamides and (Z)-geometries of the 2-oxo-N-phenylpropanehydrazonoyl chloride coupling partners were proven by X-ray diffraction studies. As representative examples, crystal-structure determination was carried out on (4-ethoxyphenyl)carbamothioyl cyanide and (Z)-N-(2,3-difluorophenyl)-2-oxopropanehydrazonoyl chloride. Density functional theory calculations at the B3LYP-D4/def2-TZVP level were carried out to rationalize the observed experimental findings.

RESUMEN

Confining carbyne to a space that allows for stability and controlled reactivity is a very appealing approach to have access to materials with tunable optical and electronic properties without rival. Here, we show how controlling the diameter of single-walled carbon nanotubes opens the possibility to grow a confined carbyne with a defined and tunable band gap. The metallicity of the tubes has a minimal influence on the formation of the carbyne, whereas the diameter plays a major role in the growth. It has been found that the properties of confined carbyne can be tailored independently from its length and how these are mostly determined by its interaction with the carbon nanotube. Molecular dynamics simulations have been performed to interpret these findings. Furthermore, the choice of a single-walled carbon nanotube host has been proven crucial even to synthesize an enriched carbyne with the smallest energy gap currently reported and with remarkable homogeneity.

RESUMEN

Within the collection of surface-supported reactions currently accessible for the production of extended molecular nanostructures under ultra-high vacuum, Ullmann coupling has been the most successful in the controlled formation of covalent single C-C bonds. Particularly advanced control of this synthetic tool has been obtained by means of hierarchical reactivity, commonly achieved by the use of different halogen atoms that consequently display distinct activation temperatures. Here we report on the site-selective reactivity of certain carbon-halogen bonds. We use precursor molecules halogenated with bromine atoms at two non-equivalent carbon atoms and found that the Ullmann coupling occurs on Au(111) with a remarkable predilection for one of the positions. Experimental evidence is provided by means of scanning tunneling microscopy and core level photoemission spectroscopy, and a rationalized understanding of the observed preference is obtained from density functional theory calculations.

RESUMEN

We investigate the thermally induced cyclization of 1,2-bis(2-phenylethynyl)benzene on Au(111) using scanning tunneling microscopy and computer simulations. Cyclization of sterically hindered enediynes is known to proceed via two competing mechanisms in solution: a classic C(1)-C(6) (Bergman) or a C(1)-C(5) cyclization pathway. On Au(111), we find that the C(1)-C(5) cyclization is suppressed and that the C(1)-C(6) cyclization yields a highly strained bicyclic olefin whose surface chemistry was hitherto unknown. The C(1)-C(6) product self-assembles into discrete noncovalently bound dimers on the surface. The reaction mechanism and driving forces behind noncovalent association are discussed in light of density functional theory calculations.

RESUMEN

This article presents the data collection process for the classification of partial discharges in electrical generators using PNG format images. The data were collected through field measurements on over 40 generators in various locations in Colombia, in addition to utilizing a partial discharge simulator provided by Omicron Energy. Throughout the collection process, special attention was given to the accuracy and coherence of the images, avoiding deformations and distortions that could impact the nature of partial discharges. Emphasis was placed on achieving high resolution in phase-resolved patterns (PRPD) to effectively correlate them with the adjacent physical phenomenon. The analysis focused on classifying the images according to the type of partial discharge, identifying them as internal, surface, or corona discharges. The obtained pulse patterns are represented in RGB color, which aids in assessing the repeatability of pulses across their distribution. These data hold potential for the development of pattern classification software for generator monitoring systems. They enable the training and validation of classification algorithms, simplifying the automated detection and analysis of partial discharges in electrical generators. Their applicability extends beyond the electrical industry and can be valuable in other fields requiring complex signal and pattern analysis. The article highlights the rigorous data collection process and precise analysis conducted to obtain a valuable set of PNG format images for partial discharge classification. These data have significant potential in advancing pattern classification software, driving progress in the monitoring and analysis of electrical generators.

RESUMEN

Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) have demonstrated their impact on disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) of patients with peritoneal metastases (PM). However, prior literature lacks evidence regarding any follow-up beyond 5 years. In this study, we analyse long-term OS and DFS (more than 10 years of follow-up) of patients undergoing CRS + HIPEC in a specialized unit. We conducted a retrospective study that included only patients who underwent CRS + HIPEC from January 2001 to May 2012. Data collection was conducted by reviewing medical records and telephone calls to patients or relatives. A total of 86 patients were included. The mean PCI was nine (range 0-39) and complete cytoreduction (CC-0) was reached in 80% of patients. Postoperative complications Clavien-Dindo III-IV occurred in 27.9% of patients and the 30-day mortality rate was 2.3%. After 10 years of actual follow-up, OS was 33.7% and DFS was 31.4%. Considering the historical context in which the standard of care for patients with PM was palliation, the results obtained show that CRS + HIPEC was a valid option, with morbimortality comparable to other major abdominal surgeries and encouraging survival results, since, after 10 years of follow-up, almost one-third of patients are still alive and disease-free.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Dengue is a disease with a wide clinical spectrum. The early identification of dengue cases is crucial but challenging for health professionals; therefore, it is necessary to have effective diagnostic instruments to initiate timely care. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an algorithm based on an artificial neural network (ANN) to diagnose dengue in an endemic area. Methods: A single-center case-control study was conducted in a secondary-care hospital in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora. An algorithm was built with the official operational definitions, which was called the "direct algorithm," and for the ANN algorithm, the brain.js library was used. The data analysis was performed with the diagnostic tests of sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (ppv), and negative predictive value (npv), with 95% confidence intervals and Cohen's kappa index. Results: A total of 233 cases and 233 controls from 2022 were included. The ANN presented a sensitivity of 0.90 (95% CI [0.85, 0.94]), specificity of 0.82 (95% CI [0.77, 0.87]), npv of 0.91 (95% CI [0.87, 0.94]) and ppv of 0.81 (95% CI [0.76, 0.85]) and a kappa of 0.72. The direct algorithm had a sensitivity of 0.97 (95% CI [0.94, 0.99]), specificity of 0.96 (95% CI [0.92, 0.98]), npv 0.97 (95% CI [0.94, 0.98]), ppv 0.96 (95% CI [0.93, 0.98]) and kappa 0.93. Conclusions: The direct algorithm performed better than the ANN in the diagnosis of dengue.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Risk factors for severe dengue manifestations have been attributed to various factors, including specific serotypes, sex, and age. Mexico has seen the re-emergence of DENV-3, which has not circulated in a decade. OBJECTIVE: To describe dengue serotypes by age, sex, and their association with disease severity in dengue-positive serum samples from epidemiological surveillance system units. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A descriptive analysis was conducted to evaluate the frequency of dengue severity by sex, age, disease quarter, geographical location, and dengue virus serotypes. The study was conducted using laboratory samples from confirmed dengue cases through RT-qPCR from the epidemiological surveillance laboratory network of the Mexican Social Security Institute, Mexico. Simple frequencies and proportions were calculated using the z-test for proportional differences between groups. Bivariate analysis with adjusted Chi2 was performed, and binary logistic regression models were constructed using the forward Wald method considering the model's predictive capacity. The measure of association was the odds ratio, with 95% confidence intervals. Statistical significance was set to an alpha level of <0.05. RESULTS: In 2023, 10,441 samples were processed for dengue RT-qPCR at the IMSS, with a predominance of serotype DENV-3 (64.4%). The samples were mostly from women (52.0%) and outpatient cases (63.3%). The distribution of dengue severity showed significant variations by age, with a lower proportion of severe cases in young children and a higher proportion in the 5- to 14-year-old group. Hospitalizations increased significantly with severity. Warm regions had more cases overall and severity. Cases were most frequent from July to September. While DENV-2 was associated with severity, DENV-4 was not. Binary regression identified higher risk in women, age extremes, and DENV-2, with an overall predictive model of 58.5%. CONCLUSIONS: Women, age groups at the extremes of life, and the DENV-2 serotype presented severe risk of dengue in a population with social security in Mexico during 2023.

RESUMEN

Herein, we provide a systematic theoretical and experimental study of the structural and optical properties of MMX (M=metal, X=halide) chains. The influence of solvent, temperature, and concentration has been analyzed to find suitable parameters for initial building-block associations in solution. By using density functional calculations, we have computed the dissociation energy of different MMX oligomers (up to the tetramer) in the gas phase. On the basis of these findings, we discuss the most likely disassembly scenario and propose a new interpretation of these compounds. We also calculated the charge redistribution that occurs upon MM+XMMX binding in vacuum. Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) is used to calculate the UV/visible spectra of different MMX chains up to the tetramer in the gas phase. The implications of these theoretical findings in the analysis of our experiments are discussed in the text. The overall body of data presented suggests a new way of looking at such linear structures. By taking into account these new data, we have been able to isolate single/few MMX chains on mica.

RESUMEN

In a context that has tended towards globalization, in which obtaining economic resources is usually the driving force of societies, information resources have frequently been treated as private goods for which one must pay. A strategy for the above has been open and free access to information, a factor of great importance for the construction of more open media.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Given the high rate of complete nodal response, the role of axillary lymph node dissection on staging the axilla has been questioned. This survey, addressed to breast cancer surgeons in Spain, has the objective of assessing current clinical trends on axillary staging of cN + patients treated with NAC. METHODS: An online survey was conducted among breast surgeons from the Spanish Society of Surgery (AEC), Spanish Surgical Oncology Society (SEOQ), Spanish Breast Cancer Surgeons Society (AECIMA) and Spanish Gynecology and Obstetrics Society (SEGO). It was structured in 5 sections: general information and clinical practice, knowledge of clinical trials, diagnosis work-up and nodal marking, axillary staging, and axillary treatment. RESULTS: 150 breast cancer surgeons completed the full survey (96.7%). 81.8% of respondents performed SLNB or targeted axillary dissection in cN1 patients treated with NAC. Radiological axillary response was the preferred parameter guiding the surgical strategy. The excision of the clipped node (92.0%), use of dual tracer (73.2%), and axillary US (65.9%) after treatment were the most important variables considered by respondents, to increase the accuracy of SLNB in cN + patients. CONCLUSION: This survey confirms a trend toward a less invasive approach for axillary staging in cN + patients treated with NAC among breast cancer surgeons in Spain. While there is widespread agreement in less invasive approaches to axillary staging, there is, however, a lack of consensus around treatment strategy. Further, it shows a wide heterogeneity in their clinical practice. This study highlights the need for clear evidence concerning less invasive staging procedures and their oncological safety, to ensure consistent recommendations in surgical practice.

RESUMEN

Two new isostructural carboxylate-bridged lanthanide ribbons having the chemical formula [Ln2(4-ABA)6]n [4-ABA = 4-aminobenzoate, Ln: holmium (Ho) and erbium (Er)] were synthesized by a solvothermal method and fully characterized using multiple analytical, spectroscopic, and computational techniques. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that both lanthanide coordination polymers (Ln-CPs) exhibit linear ribbon-like structures built up by dinuclear Ln2(4-ABA)6 units and bridged by carboxylate groups. Ln-CPs showed remarkably high thermal and chemical stabilities. Ho-CP and Er-CP exhibited similar band gaps of 3.21 eV and 3.22 eV, respectively, showing their photocatalytic ability under UV light. The photocatalytic activities of Ln-CPs were examined in the CO2 cycloaddition of epoxides to cyclic carbonates under solvent-free conditions, and full conversion (yields up to 99.9%) to the product was achieved. Ln-CP photocatalysts retained the same product yields over five consecutive cycles. Additionally, the experimental magnetic studies indicated that both Ln-CP crystals are antiferromagnetic at low T, which is confirmed by density functional theory calculations.

RESUMEN

Biliothorax is a rare but serious condition, as the presence of bile is damaging and can lead to empyema. Here, we report a case of a 51-year-old man recently diagnosed with unresectable cholangiocarcinoma, admitted to the hospital for malignant obstructive jaundice. After interventional management of biliary obstruction, the patient developed a significant right pleural effusion compatible with biliothorax, successfully managed with pleural drainage and antibiotic therapy. Resolution was possible with a conservative approach: biliary decompression, chest tube drainage and antibiotics.

RESUMEN

Activating the strong C-C σ-bond is a central problem in organic synthesis. Directly generating activated C centers by metalation of structures containing strained four-membered rings is one maneuver often employed in multistep syntheses. This usually requires high temperatures and/or precious transition metals. In this paper, we report an unprecedented C-C σ-bond activation at room temperature on Cu(111). By using bond-resolving scanning probe microscopy, we show the breaking of one of the C-C σ-bonds of a biphenylene derivative, followed by insertion of Cu from the substrate. Chemical characterization of the generated species was complemented by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, and their reactivity was explained by density functional theory calculations. To gain further insight into this unique reactivity on other coinage metals, the reaction pathway on Ag(111) was also investigated and the results were compared with those on Cu(111). This study offers new synthetic routes that may be employed in the in situ generation of activated species for the on-surface synthesis of novel C-based nanostructures.

RESUMEN

Isoselenocyanates are valuable coupling partners required for preparing key chemical intermediates and biologically active molecules in an accelerated and effective way. Likewise, (Z)-2-oxo-N-phenylpropanehydrazonoyl chlorides have been employed in numerous one-step heteroannulation reactions to assemble the structural core of several various kinds of heterocyclic compounds. Here, we describe the inverse electron demand 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of isoselenocyanates with a variety of substituted (Z)-2-oxo-N-phenylpropanehydrazonoyl chlorides to generate, regioselectively and stereoselectively, a series of 5-arylimino-1,3,4-selenadiazole derivatives comprising a multitude of functional groups on both aryl rings. The synthetic method features gentle room-temperature conditions, wide substrate scope, and good to high reaction yields. The selenadiazoles were separated by gravity filtration in all instances and chemical structures were validated by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and high accuracy mass spectral measurements. First conclusive molecular structure elucidation of the observed 5-arylimino-selenadiazole regioisomer was verified by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Crystal-structure measurement was successfully carried out on (Z)-1-(4-(4-iodophenyl)-5-(p-tolylimino)-4,5-dihydro-1,3,4-selenadiazol-2-yl)ethan-1-one and (Z)-1-(5-((4-methoxyphenyl)imino)-4-(4-(methylthio)phenyl)-4,5-dihydro-1,3,4-selenadiazol-2-yl)ethan-1-one. Likewise, the (Z)-geometry of the hydrazonoyl chloride reactant was proven by X-ray diffraction studies. As representative examples, crystal-structure determination was carried out on (Z)-2-oxo-N-phenylpropanehydrazonoyl chloride and (Z)-N-(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-2-oxopropanehydrazonoyl chloride. Density functional theory calculations at the B3LYP-D4/def2-TZVP level were conducted to support the noted experimental findings and suggested mechanism.

RESUMEN

The present study elucidates the factors that govern the spontaneous self-assembly of a family of dimetal [Pt(2)L(4)] (L=dithiocarboxylato ligand) complexes. Experimental data show that variables such as temperature, concentration, solvent and the nature of the ligand L have a critical effect on the reversible self-assembly of supramolecular [Pt(2)L(4)](n) entities. In solution, new UV/Vis spectroscopic features emerge at low temperatures and/or high concentrations, which are attributed to the formation of oligomeric [Pt(2)L(4)](n) species. The description of intermolecular Pt⋅⋅⋅Pt interactions, the main driving force for the association, was addressed from a computational perspective. The contributions from intermolecular Pt⋅⋅⋅S and S⋅⋅⋅S interactions to these supramolecular assemblies were found to be repulsive. Experimental UV/Vis data have been interpreted by means of computational spectroscopy.
