BACKGROUND: There is no consensus about effective systemic therapy for salivary gland carcinomas (sgcs). Our aim was summarized the clinical trials assessing the systemic therapies (ST) on sgcs. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Electronic searches were carried out through MEDLINE/pubmed, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library databases, and gray literature. RESULTS: Seventeen different drugs were evaluated, and the most frequent histological subtype was adenoid cystic carcinoma (n=195, 45.5%). Stable disease, observed in 11 ST, achieved the highest rate in adenoid cystic carcinoma treated with sunitinib. The highest complete (11.1%) and partial response (30.5%) rates were seen in androgen receptor-positive tumors treated with leuprorelin acetate. CONCLUSIONS: Despite all the advances in this field, there is yet no effective evidence-based regimen of ST, with all the clinical trials identified showing low rates of complete and partial responses. Further, translational studies are urgently required to characterize molecular targets and effective ST.

The paper presents an overview of modern scientific data on the study of the effect of laser radiation on biological tissues of the mouth in the therapeutic treatment of dental diseases. The use of lasers in the treatment of dental caries and its complications, non-carious lesions of hard dental tissues, as well as the use of lasers in the treatment of periodontal diseases and aesthetic restoration of teeth is considered.

RESUMEN

Although aesthetic benefits are a desirable effect of the treatment of skin aging, it is also important in controlling several skin diseases, mainly in aged people. The development of new dermocosmetics has rapidly increased due to consumers' demand for non-invasive products with lower adverse effects than those currently available on the market. Natural compounds of plant origin and herbal-derived formulations have been popularized due to their various safe active products, which act through different mechanisms of action on several signaling pathways for skin aging. Based on this, the aim of the review was to identify the recent advances in herbal-derived product research, including herbal formulations and isolated compounds with skin anti-aging properties. The studies evaluated the biological effects of herbal-derived products in in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo studies, highlighting the effects that were reported in clinical trials with available pharmacodynamics data that support their protective effects to treat, prevent, or control human skin aging. Thus, it was possible to identify that gallic and ferulic acids and herbal formulations containing Thymus vulgaris, Panax ginseng, Triticum aestivum, or Andrographis paniculata are the most promising natural products for the development of new dermocosmetics with skin anti-aging properties.

BACKGROUND: Appropriate DNA replication is vital to maintain cell integrity at the genomic level. Malfunction on DNA repair mechanisms can have implications related to tumor behavior. Our aim was to evaluate the expression of key complexes of the DNA mismatch-repair system MutSα (hMSH2-hMSH6) and MutSß (hMSH2-hMSH3) in a panel comprising the most common benign and malignant salivary gland tumors (SGT), and to determine their association with disease-free survival. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Ten cases of normal salivary gland (NSG) and 92 of SGT (54 benign and 38 malignant) were retrieved. Immunohistochemistry was performed for hMSH2, hMSH3, hMSH6. Scanned slides were digitally analyzed based on the percentage of positive cells with nuclear staining. Cases were further classified in MutSαhigh and MutSßhigh based on hMSH2-hMSH6 and hMSH3-hMSH6 expression, respectively. RESULTS: hMSH3 expression was lower in malignant SGT compared to NSG and benign cases. Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) cases with perineural invasion presented a lower percentage of hMSH3 positive cells. hMSH6 was downregulated in both benign and malignant SGT compared to NSG. Malignant SGT cases with MutSαhigh expression had lower disease-free survival compared to MutSαlow cases. A 10.26-fold increased risk of presenting local recurrence was observed. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that a lack of hMSH3 protein function is associated with a more aggressive phenotype (malignancy and perineural invasion) and that MutSα overexpression predicts a poor clinical outcome in malignant SGT.

Pleoroma fotherghillae, also known as "princess flower", is an ornamental species native to Brazil and naturalized in several countries (Faravani et al. 2007). P. fotherghillae has a high economic value, with an ornamental and landscape application (Nienow et al. 2010). In September 2018, leaf spots were observed in approximately 80% of the 50 P. fotherghillae plants grown in a nursery in the municipality of Curitiba-Paraná, Brazil. The spots were round-shaped, with a necrotic brown center and a reddish-brown halo, ranging from 1 to 4 mm in diameter. High leaf fall was observed among plants presenting a higher severity. Symptomatic leaves fragments were collected and disinfected as described by (Pereira et al. 2019). The fragments were transferred to a potato dextrose agar medium supplemented with streptomycin sulfate and incubated at 24 ± 1ºC with a photoperiod of 12 h for 7 days. Four monosporic cultures were obtained from colonies isolated. The isolates had a grayish-white cottony aerial mycelium and reverse olive-yellow with black dots. The colonies reached approximately 60 mm in diameter, forming globular and conical pycnidia, brown to black in color with white or cream globular conidial mass. Beta conidia were hyaline, smooth, curved to the size of 19 - 25 x 1 - 1.5 µm (n = 50). No alpha nor gamma conidia were observed. The characteristics are similar to the description of Diaporthe terebinthifolli (Gomes et al. 2013). The total genomic DNA of a representative isolate, LEMIDPRPf-19-02, was extracted for amplification and sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and partial of the Tubby (TUB) and thyrotroph embryonic factor (TEF) genes. The sequences of the ITS (No MN415990.1), TUB (No MW505549), and TEF (No MW505550) genes were deposited in GenBank. BLAST analysis showed similarity above 99% with D. terebinthifolli sequences (KC343219.1, KC344187.1, and KC343945.1). The multigene phylogenetic analysis, based on Bayesian Inference, grouped the isolate in a clade with other sequences of Diaporthe terebinthifolii. Four healthy plants of P. fotherghillae about 5 months old, were used for pathogenicity testing. A suspension containing 105 conidia/ml was sprayed on the surface of the leaves of four plants to the point of runoff. The plants were covered with a transparent plastic bag for 24 hours. The leaves of four other plants received sterile distilled water and served as the control treatment. The plants were kept in a greenhouse at 20±5ºC. Necrotic lesions appeared 10 to 15 days after inoculation. No symptoms were observed in the control plants. The pathogen was reisolated from symptomatic leaves and had the same characteristics as the isolate LEMIDPRPf-19-02. A representative sample (MBM 331603) was deposited at the Museu do Jardim Botânico (Botanical Garden Museum) - Curitiba, Brazil. Diaporthe terebinthifolii was previously reported as endophytic in Brazil and Uruguay, isolated from Schinus terebinthifolius and Pyrus communis, respectively (Gomes et al. 2013; Sessa et al. 2017). To our knowledge, this is the first report of D. terebinthifolii causing leaf spot on P. fotherghillae in Brazil and worldwide.

Plum and peach are important crops in the southernmost regions of Brazil and in the majority, fresh fruit producers are small producers, which guarantee their family income. Tranzschelia discolor and T. pruni-spinosae are the etiological agents of rust on Prunus domestica (plum) and P. persica (peach) in Brazil (Mendes and Urben, 2020). The molecular characterization of Tranzschelia specimens revealed different clades that are not attributed to known species, showing the need for taxonomic evaluation of Tranzschelia species in the tropics (Scholler et al. 2014; 2019). As Tranzschelia species reported in Brazil were identified only by morphological characteristics, this study aimed to carry out a survey to verify the etiology of rust on plum and peach based on molecular data. In 2018, rust symptoms in peach and plum trees were observed with maximum severity of 30% and 35%, respectively, in three Brazilian states. Symptoms of plum and peach rust are yellowish-green spots visible on the adaxial side of the leaves and uredia/uredinial sori releasing the brown urediniospores on the abaxial side (Supplementary figure 1). Symptomatic leaves of plum and peach were collected at Curitiba in the states of Paraná (lat. 25°25'47" S and long. 49°16'19" W, altitude of 935 meters) in a research station, Videira in Santa Catarina (lat. 27°00'30" S and long. 51°09'06" W, altitude of 750 meters) in a research station and Paranapanema in São Paulo (lat. 23º23'19" S and long. 48º43'22" W, altitude of 610 meters) in a farmer field, and deposited in the herbarium of the Municipal Botanical Museum of Curitiba (MBM 429790 to 429795). Urediniospores collected on plum and peach leaves were all echinulate, obovoid, orange-brown, and measured 18.0 - 33.5 µm × 10.5 - 20.5 µm (n=150) and 22.5 - 40.0 µm × 11.5 - 20.5 µm (n=150), respectively. The genomic DNA of the urediniospores was extracted for amplification and sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) using primers ITS5-u and ITS4-u (Pfunder et al. 2001). The sequences were deposited (Accession Nos. MT786213 to MT786218) and compared to sequences in the GenBank repository using the BLASTn algorithm. The sequences of ITS showed a high percentage of identity (>99%) with sequences from T. discolor (Accession Nos. AB097449, EU014071, KU712078, KY764179, MH599069, MN545867, DQ995341, DQ354542, and KX985768). Additionally, our isolates clustered with others T. discolor in a Bayesian phylogenetic tree based on ITS sequences (study S26663 deposited in TreeBASE) (Supplementary figure 2). A pathogenicity test was carried out on plants by inoculation of a 1.5 × 105 urediniospores mL-1 suspension on the abaxial side of the leaves. Leaves sprayed with sterile water were used as controls. The plants were incubated in a growth chamber (GC) in the dark for 48 h at 23 °C and maintained with 100% RH to establish infections. The inoculated plants were afterwards kept in the GC at a photoperiod of 12 h under same conditions until 14 days when the symptoms and pathogen structures were observed to all six isolates. Control leaves remained symptomless. Tranzschelia discolor infect plants in the genus Prunus, including almond, apricot, nectarine, cherry, peach, and plum (Farr and Rossman 2021). As T. pruni-spinosae was not found, T. discolor is probably the prevalent species in the main regions of Brazil. This information reveals T. discolor as the causal agent of plum and peach rust in Brazil and helps to understand the distribution of this disease in tropics or worldwide.

BACKGROUND: Salivary gland cancers (SGC) represent an uncommon group of heterogeneous tumors. We performed a retrospective survey of SGC diagnosed in a reference center for treatment of malignant tumors from the south of Brazil aiming to determine the prognostic value of demographic, clinic and pathologic features. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Cases diagnosed as SGC between 2006 and 2016 were retrospectively collected. Medical records were examined to extract demographic, clinic, pathologic and follow-up information. RESULTS: One-hundred and seven cases of SGC were identified. The most common SGC were mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) (n = 39) followed by adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) (n = 29). Among AdCCs, 55.2% of cases were classified as cribriform, 27.6% as tubular and 17.2% as solid. The tubular subtype had the highest percentage of cases with perineural invasion (p=0.01). Among MEC, 61.5% of cases were classified as low grade, 15.4% as intermediate grade and 19.9% as high grade. Low grade MEC had the lowest percentage of cases with perineural invasion (p=0.04). The 5-year survival for loco-regional control, disease-free survival (DFS) and disease-specific survival were 75%, 70% and 84%, respectively. The following features were associated with poor DFS: advanced age (p=0.03), rural residency (p=0.01), being a smoker or former smoker (p=0.01), pain (p=0.03), nodal metastasis (p<0.001), need for chemotherapy (p=0.02), neck dissection (p=0.04), perineural invasion (p=0.01), and being diagnosed with AdCC compared to MEC (p=0.02). CONCLUSIONS: The clinco-demographic and pathologic features identified as prognostic factors reveal the profile of patients at increased risk of recurrence and who would benefit from closer follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Radium-223 prolongs overall survival and delays symptomatic skeletal events (SSEs) in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and bone metastases. The approved radium-223 regimen is 55 kBq/kg every 4 weeks (q4w) for six cycles (standard dose). We investigated different radium-223 regimens in patients with mCRPC. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients were randomised 1 : 1 : 1 to radium-223 standard-dose, high-dose (88 kBq/kg q4w for six cycles) or extended-schedule arms (55 kBq/kg q4w for 12 cycles). The primary end point, SSE-free survival (SSE-FS), was compared in patients treated with a high- versus standard-dose regimen, or with a standard dose in an extended (>6 to 12 cycles) versus standard schedule (six cycles). RESULTS: A total of 391 patients were randomised; baseline characteristics were balanced between arms. On-treatment SSEs developed in 37/130 (28%), 42/130 (32%) and 48/131 (37%) patients in the standard-dose, high-dose and extended-schedule arms, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in SSE-FS in the high- versus standard-dose arms [median 12.9 months versus 12.3 months; hazard ratio (HR) 1.06, 80% confidence interval (CI) 0.88-1.27, P = 0.70], and in the extended- versus standard-schedule arms (median 10.8 months versus 13.2 months; HR 1.26, 80% CI 0.94-1.69, P = 0.31). Overall survival in the three treatment arms was similar. As many as 370 (95%) patients received treatment (median of six cycles) in each arm. Grade ≥3 treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) affected 34% of patients in the standard-dose, 48% in the high-dose and 53% in the extended-schedule arm, causing permanent discontinuation in 9%, 16% and 17% of patients, respectively. CONCLUSION: Radium-223 high-dose or extended-schedule regimens resulted in no change in SSE-FS or other efficacy end points and were associated with more grade ≥3 TEAEs. The extended-schedule regimen (beyond six doses) could not be implemented in a large proportion of patients due to disease progression. Therefore, the standard-dose schedule remains one of the standard therapies for patients with symptomatic mCRPC. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.govNCT02023697.

AIM: To develop a novel in vitro urethra model and use it to determine if insertion of an intermittent urinary catheter (IC) displaces pathogenic bacteria from the urethral meatus along the urethra. METHODS: Displacement of microbial growth after catheter insertion was assessed using a novel in vitro urethra model. The in vitro urethra model utilized chromogenic agar and was inoculated with bacteria at one side of the artificial urethra channel, to act as a contaminated urethral meatus, before an IC was inserted into the channel. Three ICs types were used to validate the in vitro urethra model and methodology. RESULTS: When compared to the bacterial growth control, a significant difference in bacterial growth was found after insertion of the uncoated (P ≤ 0·001) and hydrophilic coated (P ≤ 0·009) catheters; no significant difference when a prototype catheter was inserted into the in vitro urethra model with either bacterial species tested (P ≥ 0·423). CONCLUSION: The results presented support the hypothesis that a single catheter insertion can initiate a catheter-associated urinary tract infection. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The in vitro urethra model and associated methodology were found to be reliable and reproducible (P ≥ 0·265) providing new research tool for the development and validation of emerging technologies in urological healthcare.

Impatiens walleriana (Balsaminaceae), popularly known as Impatiens, is an African succulent and a popular ornamental plant worldwide (GBIF, 2019). In Brazil it is broadly grown indoors and outdoors, including in public parks of Curitiba, State of Paraná (Viezzer et al. 2018). In September 2018, I. walleriana plants showing typical downy mildew symptoms were observed in wastelands and gardens in Curitiba. The symptoms included adaxial chlorotic leaf spots with abundant white sporulation on abaxial side (Supplementary figure 1). The disease led to severe defoliation of the plants and the incidence of the plant disease varied from 20 to 80% of plants in an area ranging from 400 to 40,000 m2. A representative sample was deposited in herbarium of the Museu Botânico Municipal de Curitiba (MBM 331601). The following morphology was observed: Sporangiophores (n = 30), hyaline, thin walled, emerging through stomata, 407.3 to 551.1 µm long, slightly swollen base, first branch at 165.8 to 324.7 µm from base, end branches 5.1 to 13.1 µm long, sporangia (n = 50) hyaline, thin-walled subglobose to ovoid, from 12.8 to 21.9 µm x 12.5 to 17.9 µm, slightly papillate. Due to morphological and genetic variations within the species Plasmopara obducens, Görg et al. (2017) proposed the new species P. velutina and P. destructor. The morphology of the Curitiba specimen was equivalent to that described for P. destructor (Görg et al. 2017). DNA was extracted from LEMIDPRTf-19-02 isolate and the ITS1 and cox2 regions were PCR amplified as described in Görg et al. (2017). The resulting sequences were deposited in GenBank (ITS1, MT680628; cox2, MT952335). A BLASTn analysis of the sequences revealed 100% homology with ITS (MF372742) and cox2 (MF372728) sequences of type strain of P. destructor (GLM-F107554). A Bayesian phylogenetic analysis was performed to compare the sequences from this study with reference sequences for P. obducens, P. destructor and P. velutina (Görg et al. 2017; Salgado-Salazar et al. 2018). The oomycete from Curitiba grouped in a reliable clade with P. destructor (Supplementary figure 2). Pathogenicity was carried out by ex vivo and in vivo tests. For ex vivo, stems with approximately four healthy leaves of I. walleriana (n = 10) were embedded in aluminum grid inside of gerbox with the stem bases immersed in distilled water. The inoculation of five stems was carried out by spraying a suspension with 6 x 104 sporangia mL-1 on the abaxial side of the leaves. Five stems with leaves inoculated with sterile water were used as controls. They were incubated in a growth chamber in the dark for 48 h at 20 °C and another 12 days in a 12 h light photoperiod. The confirmation of pathogenicity in plants (in vivo) was obtained with the inoculation of I. walleriana seedlings (one-month old) grown in 2 dm3 aluminum pots. The inoculation methodology and number of plants were the same as the stems test. After the inoculation, plants were incubated in a growth chamber for 48 h in the dark at 20 °C with 100% RH with nebulization, and another 10 days at a photoperiod of 12 hours of light. For both tests, abundant sporulation was observedwith morphology equivalent to Plasmopara destructor described by Görg et al. (2017). No disease developed on control plants. To our knowledge, this is the first report of P. destructor on I. walleriana in Brazil (Farr and Rossman 2019, Silva et al. 2019) representing a potential loss to flower production and a reduction in flowering period in public gardens and parks.

Chronic kidney disease-mineral bone disorders (CKD-MBD) are associated with increased risk of fracture. Studies report about 3% of fractures in CKD patients, and these occur earlier than in the general population, namely 16 and 13 years earlier for men and women, respectively. Better understanding of the pathophysiology of fractures would probably contribute to new therapeutic approaches. This study aimed to evaluate report of long bone fractures from a bone biopsies bank from patients on hemodialysis and compare clinical and biochemical characteristics, as well as the results of the histomorphometric analysis of trabecular and cortical bone of these patients with a control group (without fractures), paired for age, gender, and time on hemodialysis. Bone proteins (SOST, DMP1 and MEPE) were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Seventeen patients with fracture and controls were studied. Fracture prevalence was 0.82/1000 patients/year. Serum phosphorus levels were significantly lower in the fracture group. Histomorphometric analysis revealed that all the patients had high turnover disease, and the fracture group had smaller volume and trabecular thickness, greater osteoid surface, smaller eroded surface, smaller mineralizing surface, formation rate and longer mineralization lag time when compared to controls; the DMP1 expression in the cortical bone was smaller and the SOST in the trabecular bone was higher in fractured patients. As conclusion, we found low prevalence of fractures. Both groups had high turnover disease, but the fractured ones presented more impaired bone microarchitecture, as well as lower formation and greater mineralization defect. Bone proteins expression correlated with parameters involved in bone remodeling.

BACKGROUND: Six radium-223 injections at 4-week intervals is indicated for patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer and symptomatic bone metastases. However, patients usually develop disease progression after initial treatment. This prospective phase I/II study assessed re-treatment safety and efficacy of up to six additional radium-223 injections. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients had castration-resistant prostate cancer and bone metastases and six initial radium-223 injections with no on-treatment bone progression; all had subsequent radiologic or clinical progression. Concomitant agents were allowed at investigator discretion, excluding chemotherapy and initiation of new abiraterone or enzalutamide. The primary endpoint was safety; additional exploratory endpoints included time to radiographic bone progression, time to total alkaline phosphatase and prostate-specific antigen progression, radiographic progression-free survival, overall survival, time to first symptomatic skeletal event (SSE), SSE-free survival, and time to pain progression. RESULTS: Among 44 patients, 29 (66%) received all six re-treatment injections. Median time from end of initial radium-223 treatment was 6 months. Forty-one (93%) reported ≥1 treatment-emergent adverse event. No grade 4-5 hematologic treatment-emergent adverse events occurred. Only one (2%) patient had radiographic bone progression; eight (18%) had radiographic soft tissue tumor progression (three lymph node and five visceral metastases). Median times to total alkaline phosphatase and prostate-specific antigen progression were not reached and 2.2 months, respectively. Median radiographic progression-free survival was 9.9 months (12.8-month maximum follow-up). Five (11%) patients died and eight (18%) experienced first SSEs. Median overall survival, time to first SSE, and SSE-free survival were not reached. Five (14%) of 36 evaluable patients (baseline worst pain score ≤7) had pain progression. After 2 years of follow-up, 28 (64%) patients died, and the median overall survival was 24.4 months. CONCLUSIONS: Re-treatment with a second course of six radium-223 injections after disease progression is well tolerated, with minimal hematologic toxicity and low radiographic bone progression rates in this small study with limited follow-up. Favorable safety and early effects on disease progression indicate that radium-223 re-treatment is feasible and warrants further evaluation in larger prospective trials.

Quinone-outside inhibitor (QoI) fungicides are effective tools for preharvest control of brown rot of stone fruit. These fungicides have a very specific site of action so the risk of resistance selection is high. The sensitivity of Monilinia fructicola (G. Winter) Honey isolates to azoxystrobin (QoI) was investigated in 143 isolates collected between 2002 and 2011 from four Brazilian states in orchards with different frequencies of fungicide use (0 to 6 fungicides sprays/season). Sensitivity of the isolates to azoxystrobin was determined in vitro, by inhibition of mycelial growth and spore germination on fungicide-amended media or ex vivo by pathogen inoculation in untreated or treated fruit with azoxystrobin. Potential mutations in codons 143, 137, and 129 of the cytochrome b (Cyt b) gene and the occurrence of an intron immediately after codon 143 were analyzed in a subpopulation of the isolates. The M. fructicola population of São Paulo State was less sensitive to the fungicide than the population from the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul. The low sensitivity of the isolates was confirmed also by comparing to the sensitivity of the baseline isolates. Mutations in G143A, F129L, and G137R in Cyt b gene were not found. In addition, 58 isolates tested showed an intron after codon 143 in Cyt b gene. Our results indicate that other mechanisms of selection for low sensitivity to QoI fungicides should be investigated.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Acute activation of sympathetic activation during hemodialysis is essential to maintain blood pressure (BP), albeit long-term overactivity contributes to higher mortality. Low heart rate variability (HRV), a measure of autonomic nervous system activity, and abnormal ankle-brachial index (ABI) are associated with higher mortality in patients on hemodialysis. In this study, we assessed HRV and ABI pre and post dialysis in incident patients on hemodialysis using high (1.75mmol/l) and low (1.25mmol/l) dialysate calcium concentration (DCa). METHODS: HRV was measured as the ratio between low frequency and high frequency power (LF/HF). Thirty patients (age 47±16 years, 67% men) were studied in two consecutive mid-week hemodialysis sessions. RESULTS: Mean BP variation was positive with DCa 1.75 and negative with DCa 1.25 [4.0 (-6.0, 12.2 mmHg) vs. -3.2 (-9.8, 1.3 mmHg); p=0.050]. Reduction of ABI from pre to post HD was related to higher sympathetic activity (p=0.031). The increase in LF/HF ratio was higher with DCa 1.75 (58.3% vs. 41.7% in DCa 1.75 and 1.25, respectively, RR 2.8; p=0.026). CONCLUSION: Although higher DCa is associated with better hemodynamic tolerability during hemodialysis, this occurs at the expense of increased sympathetic activity. Higher sympathetic activity was associated with a decrease of ABI during hemodialysis.

Recurrent Pyogenic Cholangitis (RPC) or Primary Hepatolithiasis is a common disease of the biliary tract in Asia, whereas it is usually not seen in Europeans. With increasing global mobility, the disease will be encountered in Europe more frequently, too. It should therefore be considered as a differential diagnosis in patients from endemic countries with recurrent symptoms of cholestasis/cholangitis and bile duct dilations, strictures and hepatolithiasis. In this case report, we present the history of a 37-year old patient from Sri Lanka and describe typical aspects of RPC. The patient presented at our hospital with scleral jaundice and pruritus. In the past she had been treated for septic cholangitis. Diagnosis in our patient was made after laboratory tests, MRT/MRCP and ERC. She was treated interventionally by ERC and is now monitored on a regular basis.

The article contends that in stomatology actual normative legal support does not handle all problems of both organization of orthodontic care of children population and control of quality of orthodontic treatment. It is assumed that in. conditions of updated federal health legislation additional efforts are to be made to enhance quality and accessibility of orthodontic care. Thereafter in the area of normative legal support procedures of organization of orthodontic care of population at the level of subject of the Russian Federation in conditions of orthodontic medical organization are to be developed additionally. The standards of curative diagnostic measures, standards of quality control, target indicators, and mechanism of audit of evaluation of effectiveness of orthodontic care at the stages of its provision.

Filtered Rayleigh scattering (FRS) is applied to determine two-dimensional temperature distributions in a hexamethyldisiloxane loaded propane/air flame intended for combustion chemical vapor deposition processes. An iodine cell as a molecular filter suppresses background scattering, e.g., by particles, while the wings of the spectrally broadened Rayleigh scattering can pass this filter. A frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser is tuned to a strong absorption line of iodine. The gas temperature is deduced from the transmitted Rayleigh scattering signal. Since FRS also depends on molecule-specific scattering cross sections, the local gas composition of majority species is measured using the Raman scattering technique. Limits and restrictions are discussed.
