RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: The effect of perioperative omega-3 fatty acids for liver surgery remained controversial. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the influence of omega-3 fatty acids versus placebo in patients undergoing liver surgery. METHODS: We have searched PubMed, EMbase, Web of science, EBSCO, and Cochrane library databases through May 2020, and included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effect of omega-3 fatty acids versus placebo for liver surgery. This meta-analysis was performed using the random-effect model. RESULTS: Five RCTs were included in the meta-analysis. Overall, compared with control group for liver surgery, omega-3 fatty acids were associated with substantially reduced incidence of infection (odd ratio [OR]=0.56; 95% confidence interval [CI] =0.34-0.91; P = .02), but revealed no remarkable influence on complications (OR = 0.60; 95% CI = 0.29-1.24; P = .17), mortality (OR = 0.76; 95% CI = 0.06-9.37; P = .83), liver failure (OR = 0.72; 95% CI = 0.10 to 5.00; P = 0.74), biliary leakage (OR=1.24; 95% CI = 0.41 to 3.76; P = .70), bleeding (OR = 1.76; 95% CI = 0.63-4.95; P = .28), or ileus (OR = 0.39; 95% CI = 0.07-2.05; P = .27). CONCLUSION: Perioperative omega-3 fatty acids may be beneficial to reduce the incidence of infection after liver surgery.

RESUMEN

A novel fluorescence probe (DNA-AgNCs) was synthesized for dually detecting hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and ferrous ion (Fe(II)) in water samples. The assay is carried out through a dramatic "turn-off" fluorescence response of AgNCs by hydroxyl radical (OH), which is produced when H2O2 and Fe(II) are present simultaneously. Under the optimal conditions, the degree of fluorescence quenching of the DNA-AgNCs at 525 nm is linearly related to the concentration of H2O2 in the range of 0.3 to 450 pM, and Fe(II) in the range of 0.2 to 6.0 µM. The limit of detection (LOD) of H2O2 and Fe(II) are as low as 99 fM and 60 nM, respectively. Moreover, this method has the advantages of good specificity, high sensitivity, and can be successfully applied for detecting H2O2 and Fe(II) in the real water samples.

The present study aimed to investigate the in vivo inhibitory effect of histone deacetylase inhibitor suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA) combined with sorafenib on human hepatocellular carcinoma HCCLM3 cells. The nude mice transplanted with HCCLM3 cells were randomly divided into control, SAHA, sorafenib and SAHA+sorafenib groups. The nude mice in the later 3 groups were intragastrically administrated with SAHA (10 mg·kg-1·day-1), sorafenib (10 mg·kg-1·day-1) and SAHA (10 mg·kg-1·day-1) combined with sorafenib (10 mg·kg-1·day-1), respectively, for successive 20 days. Finally, the inhibition rate of tumor was measured. The expressions of MEK1/2, p-ERK1/2, Cyclin D1, Bcl-2, Bax, p53, MMP-2, MMP-9 and uPA in tumor tissues were determined. Results showed that, compared with SAHA and Sorafenib groups, in SAHA+sorafenib groups the inhibition rate of tumor was significantly increased (P < 0.05), the expression levels of MEK1/2, p-ERK1/2, Cyclin D1, Bcl-2, MMP-2 and MMP-9 and uPA protein in tumor tissues were significantly decreased, respectively (P < 0.05), and the expression levels of Bax and p53 protein were significantly increased, respectively (P < 0.05). In conclusion, compared with single drug, SAHA combined with sorafenib can enhance the inhibitory effects on HCCLM3 xenografts in nude mice.
