RESUMEN

Cow dung generates globally due to increased beef and milk consumption, but its treatment efficiency remains low. Previous studies have shown that riboflavin-loaded conductive materials can improve anaerobic digestion through enhance direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET). However, its effect on the practical anaerobic digestion of cow dung remained unclear. In this study, carbon cloth loaded with riboflavin (carbon cloth-riboflavin) was added into an anaerobic digester treating cow dung. The carbon cloth-riboflavin reactor showed a better performance than other two reactors. The metagenomic analysis revealed that Methanothrix on the surface of the carbon cloth predominantly utilized the CO2 reduction for methane production, further enhanced after riboflavin addition, while Methanothrix in bulk sludge were using the acetate decarboxylation pathway. Furthermore, the carbon cloth-riboflavin enriched various major methanogenic pathways and activated a large number of enzymes associated with DIET. Riboflavin's presence altered the microbial communities and the abundance of functional genes relate to DIET, ultimately leading to a better performance of anaerobic digestion for cow dung.

Protocells have garnered considerable attention from cell biologists, materials scientists, and synthetic biologists. Phase-separating coacervate microdroplets have emerged as a promising cytomimetic model because they can internalize and concentrate components from dilute surrounding environments. However, the membrane-free nature of such coacervates leads to coalescence into a bulk phase, a phenomenon that is not representative of the cells they are designed to mimic. Herein, we develop a membranized peptide coacervate (PC) with oppositely charged oligopeptides as the molecularly crowded cytosol and a metal-phenolic network (MPN) coating as the membrane. The hybrid protocell efficiently internalizes various bioactive macromolecules (e.g., bovine serum albumin and immunoglobulin G) (>90%) while also resisting radicals due to the semipermeable cytoprotective membrane. Notably, the resultant PC@MPNs are capable of anabolic cascade reactions and remain in discrete protocellular populations without coalescence. Finally, we demonstrate that the MPN protocell membrane can be postfunctionalized with various functional molecules (e.g., folic acid and fluorescence dye) to more closely resemble actual cells with complex membranes, such as recognition molecules, which allows for drug delivery. This membrane-bound cytosolic protocell structure paves the way for innovative synthetic cells with structural and functional complexity.

Pancreatic cancer is an extremely aggressive malignancy with a very disappointing prognosis. Neuroglobin (NGB), a member of the globin family, has been demonstrated to have a significant role in a variety of tumor forms. The possible role of NGB as a tumor suppressor gene in pancreatic cancer was investigated in this work. Information from the public dataset TCGA combined with GTEx was used to analyze the finding that NGB was commonly downregulated in pancreatic cancer cell lines and tissues, correlating with patient age and prognosis. The expression of NGB in pancreatic cancer was investigated via RT-PCR, qRT-PCR, and Western blot experiments. In-vitro and in-vivo assays, NGB elicited cell cycle arrest in the S phase and apoptosis, hindered migration and invasion, reversed the EMT process, and suppressed cell proliferation and development. The mechanism of action of NGB was predicted via bioinformatics analysis and validated using Western blot and co-IP experiments revealed that NGB inhibited the EGFR/AKT/ERK pathway by binding to and reducing expression of GNAI1 and p-EGFR. In addition, pancreatic cancer cells overexpressing NGB showed increased drug sensitivity to gefitinib (EGFR-TKI). In conclusion, NGB inhibits pancreatic cancer progression by specifically targeting the GNAI1/EGFR/AKT/ERK signaling axis.

In this study, we propose a new approach to generate two-dimension spectra to enhance the intensity of cross peaks relevant to intermolecular interaction. We investigate intermolecular interaction between two solutes (denoted as P and Q, where P has a characteristic peak at XP) dissolved in the same solvent via the near diagonal cross peaks around the coordinate (XP, XP) in a two-dimensional (2D) asynchronous spectrum of generalized spectroscopy. Because of physical constrains in many cases, the variation ranges of the initial concentrations of P or Q must be kept very narrow, leading to very weak cross peak intensities. The weak cross peaks vulnerable to noise bring about difficulty in the investigation of subtle intermolecular interaction. Herein, we propose a new of way constructing a 2D asynchronous spectrum without the subtraction of the average spectrum often used as a reference spectrum. Mathematical analysis and computer simulation demonstrate that the near diagonal cross peaks around the coordinate (XP, XP) in the 2D asynchronous spectrum using the new approach possess two characteristics: (1) they can still reflect an intermolecular interaction reliably; 2) the absolute intensities of the cross peaks are significantly stronger than those generated by the conventional method. We incorporate the novel method with the DAOSD (double asynchronous orthogonal sample design scheme) approach and applied the modified DAOSD approach to study hydrogen bonding behavior in diethyl either/methanol/THF system. The new approach made the weak cross peaks, which are not observable in 2D asynchronous spectrum generated using conventional approach, become observable. The appearance of the cross peak demonstrate that When a small amount of THF is introduced into diethyl solution containing low amount of methanol, THF breaks the methanol-diethyl ether complex and forms methanol-THF complex via new hydrogen bond. This process takes place in spite of the fact that the content of diethyl ether is overwhelmingly larger than that of THF. The above result demonstrates that the new approach described in this article is applicable to enhance intensity of cross peaks in real chemical systems.

Propofol, a commonly used intravenous anesthetic, has demonstrated potential in protecting against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) based on preclinical animal studies. However, the clinical benefits of propofol in this context are subject to debate. We conducted a systematic search across eight databases to identify all relevant animal studies investigating the preventive effects of propofol on MIRI until October 30, 2023. We assessed the methodological quality of the included studies using SYRCLE's bias risk tool. Statistical analysis was performed using STATA 15.1. The primary outcome measures analyzed in this study were myocardial infarct size (IS) and myocardial injury biomarkers. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of 48 relevant animal studies investigating propofol's preventive effects on MIRI. Propofol administration demonstrated a reduction in myocardial IS and decreased levels of myocardial injury biomarkers (CK-MB, LDH, cTnI). Moreover, propofol improved myocardial function parameters (+dp/dtmax, -dP/dtmax, LVEF, LVFS), exhibited favorable effects on inflammatory markers (IL-6, TNF-α) and oxidative stress markers (SOD, MDA), and reduced myocardial cell apoptotic index (AI). These findings suggest propofol exerts cardioprotective effects by reducing myocardial injury, decreasing infarct size, and improving heart function. However, the absence of animal models that accurately represent comorbidities such as aging and hypertension, as well as inconsistent administration methods that align with clinical practice, may hinder its clinical translation. Further robust investigations are required to validate these findings, elucidate the underlying mechanisms of propofol, and facilitate its potential translation into clinical practice.

Two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy is used to investigate the intermolecular interaction between two substances dissolved in the same solutions, where the intermolecular interaction is described by two reversible reactions producing two supramolecular aggregates. The severe overlappings expected among the characteristic peaks of the original solute and aggregates make conventional one-dimensional spectra difficult to accurately reflect the physiochemical nature of the intermolecular interaction. The double asynchronous orthogonal sample design (DAOSD) approach is utilized to analyze the simulated data for proof-of-principle demonstration. The patterns of cross-peaks are much more complex compared with the intermolecular interaction described by only a single reaction. Four major groups of cross-peaks with characteristic patterns observed in the pair of DAOSD asynchronous spectra are systematically analyzed and classified. Further analysis of the spectral feature of the cross-peaks of the DAOSD asynchronous spectra is helpful to exact additional information concerning the variation of the peak position and peak width of the aggregates compared with those of the original solute. The result is important to reveal the physicochemical nature of intermolecular interaction between the solutes (e.g., changes in conformation, dynamical behavior, etc.). The pattern of cross-peaks in the corresponding 2D asynchronous spectra may become rather complex when the peak position, peak width, and peak intensity of two supramolecular aggregates change simultaneously. Further work using artificial intelligence techniques to interpret the complex cross-peaks is still being carried out.

Microbial electrosynthesis (MES) offers a promising approach for converting CO2 into valuable chemicals such as acetate. However, the relative low conversion rate severely limits its practical application. This study investigated the impact of different hydrogen evolution rates on the conversion rate of CO2 to acetate in the MES system. Three potentials (-0.8 V, -0.9 V and -1.0 V) corresponding to various hydrogen evolution rates were set and analyzed, revealing an optimal hydrogen evolution rate, yielding a maximum acetate formation rate of 1410.9 mg/L and 73.5 % coulomb efficiency. The electrochemical findings revealed that an optimal hydrogen evolution rate facilitated the formation of an electroactive biofilm. The microbial community of the cathode biofilm highlighted key genera, including Clostridium and Acetobacterium, which played essential roles in electrosynthesis within the MES system. Notably, a low hydrogen evolution rate failed to provide sufficient energy for the electrochemical reduction of CO2 to acetate, while a high rate led to cathode alkalinization, impeding the reaction and causing significant energy wastage. Therefore, maintaining an appropriate hydrogen evolution rate is crucial for the development of mature electroactive biofilms and achieving optimal performance in the MES system.

INTRODUCTION: Amphetamine-type stimulants (ATSs) are presenting a great challenge to global public health along with its worldwide abuse in recent years. Protracted amphetamine abstinence syndrome (PAAS) is one of the primary causes of relapse for ATS abusers during withdrawal. However, different conclusions are reached by previous trials. This study is designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in treating PAAS. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), PsycINFO, ProQuest Dissertation and Theses, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database (AMED), ClinicalTrials.gov and who.int/trialsearch will be searched from the inception to February 2023 and language will be restricted to English and Chinese. Eligible randomised controlled trials will be included. The primary outcome is the intensity of withdrawal syndrome. The secondary outcomes include: (1) intensity of pain, anxiety, depression and other associated symptoms; (2) number of participants with relapse; (3) retention of treatment and (4) nature and rate of adverse effects. Data synthesis will be performed by using RevMan (V.5.4). The quality of evidence will be evaluated by the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach. This study will strictly adhere to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis guidelines. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Ethical approval is not required as this is a systematic review and meta-analysis based on previously published studies that do not involve patients' privacy. The results of this study will be disseminated in a peer-reviewed journal. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42022297761.

Endometrial cancer (EC) is a prevalent epithelial malignancy in the uterine corpus's endometrium and myometrium. Regulating apoptosis of endometrial cancer cells has been a promising approach for treating EC. Recent in-vitro and in-vivo studies show that numerous extracts and monomers from natural products have pro-apoptotic properties in EC. Therefore, we have reviewed the current studies regarding natural products in modulating the apoptosis of EC cells and summarized their potential mechanisms. The potential signaling pathways include the mitochondria-dependent apoptotic pathway, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) mediated apoptotic pathway, the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) mediated apoptotic pathway, NF-κB-mediated apoptotic pathway, PI3K/AKT/mTOR mediated apoptotic pathway, the p21-mediated apoptotic pathway, and other reported pathways. This review focuses on the importance of natural products in treating EC and provides a foundation for developing natural products-based anti-EC agents.

Garden waste, one type of lignocellulosic biomass, holds significant potential for the production of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) through anaerobic fermentation. However, the hydrolysis efficiency of garden waste is limited by the inherent recalcitrance, which further influences VFA production. Granular activated carbon (GAC) could promote hydrolysis and acidogenesis efficiency during anaerobic fermentation. This study developed a strategy to use GAC to enhance the anaerobic fermentation of garden waste without any complex pretreatments and extra enzymes. The results showed that GAC addition could improve VFA production, especially acetate, and reach the maximum total VFA yield of 191.55 mg/g VSadded, which increased by 27.35% compared to the control group. The highest VFA/sCOD value of 70.01% was attained in the GAC-amended group, whereas the control group only reached 49.35%, indicating a better hydrolysis and acidogenesis capacity attributed to the addition of GAC. Microbial community results revealed that GAC addition promoted the enrichment of Caproiciproducens and Clostridium, which are crucial for anaerobic VFA production. In addition, only the GAC-amended group showed the presence of Sphaerochaeta and Oscillibacter genera, which are associated with electron transfer processes. Metagenomics analysis indicated that GAC addition improved the abundance of glycoside hydrolases (GHs) and key functional enzymes related to hydrolysis and acidogenesis. Furthermore, the assessment of major genera influencing functional genes in both groups indicated that Sphaerochaeta, Clostridium, and Caproicibacter were the primary contributors to upregulated genes. These findings underscored the significance of employing GAC to enhance the anaerobic fermentation of garden waste, offering a promising approach for sustainable biomass conversion and VFA production.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease impacting patients' quality of life and imposing heavy societal and economic burdens. Apoptosis of intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) has been considered an early event during the onset of UC and plays a crucial role in disease development. Thus, effectively inhibiting apoptosis of IECs is of critical significance for the clinical management of UC, presenting a potential direction for the research and development of pharmacotherapeutic agents. In recent years, research on the ameliorative effects of natural products on UC through inhibiting IECs apoptosis has attracted increasing attention and made remarkable achievements in ameliorating UC. In this review, we summarized the currently available research about the anti-apoptotic effects of natural products on UC and its mechanisms involving the death-receptor mediated pathway, mitochondrial-dependent pathway, ERS-mediated pathway, MAPK-mediated pathway, NF-κB mediated pathway, P13k/Akt pathway, JAK/STAT3 pathway, and NLRP3/ASC/Caspase-1 pathway. Hopefully, this review may yield useful information about the anti-apoptotic effects of natural products on UC and their potential molecular mechanisms and provide helpful insights for further investigations.

Pseudomonas sp. Y-5, a strain with simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) capacity, was isolated from the Wuhan Municipal Sewage Treatment Plant. This strain could rapidly remove high concentrations of inorganic nitrogen. Specifically, Pseudomonas sp. Y-5 removed 103 mg/L of NH4+-N in 24 h without nitrate or nitrite accumulation when NH4+-N was its sole nitrogen source. The NH4+-N removal efficiency (RE) was 97.26%, and the average removal rate (RR) was 4.30 mg/L/h. Strain Y-5 also removed NO3--N and NO2--N even in aerobic conditions, with average RRs of 4.39 and 4.23 mg/L/h, respectively, and REs of up to 99.34% and 95.81% within 24 h. When cultured in SND medium (SNDM-1), strain Y-5 achieved an NH4+-N RE of up to 97.80% and a total nitrogen (TN) RE of 93.01%, whereas NO3--N was fully depleted in 48 h. Interestingly, high nitrite concentrations did not inhibit the nitrification capacity of Y-5 when grown in SNDM-2, the RE of NH4+-N and TN reached 96.29% and 94.26%, respectively, and nitrite was consumed completely. Strain Y-5 also adapted well to high concentrations of ammonia (~401.68 mg NH4+-N/L) or organic nitrogen (~315.12 mg TN/L). Our results suggested that Pseudomonas sp. Y-5 achieved efficient simultaneous nitrification and denitrification, thus demonstrating its potential applicability in the treatment of nitrogen-polluted wastewater.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Protracted amphetamine abstinence syndrome is one of the primary causes of relapse for amphetamine-type drug abusers during withdrawal. However, the importance of the management of protracted amphetamine abstinence syndrome is underestimated. Electro-acupuncture may be a safe and effective alternative therapy for protracted amphetamine abstinence syndrome, but the evidence is limited. METHODS: The study is a prospective, two-center, randomized, waitlist controlled, open-label pragmatic trial. A total of 300 patients with protracted amphetamine abstinence syndrome will be recruited. All participants will be randomly assigned to an electro-acupuncture group or a waitlist group in a 1:1 ratio. Participants in the electro-acupuncture group will receive the electrical-acupuncture treatment. Waitlist group participants will not receive electro-acupuncture treatment but will be assessed at each visit. Treatments will be administered twice a week for a total of 4 consecutive weeks. The primary outcome in this study is the change in the ACSA between baseline (week 0) and the completion of treatment (week 4), and the secondary outcomes are changes in the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), the visual analog scale (VAS), the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and the Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36). DISCUSSION: This study will assess the effectiveness of acupuncture in PAAS in real-world settings to provide support for clinical decisions and a basis for subsequent trials comparing acupuncture with other positive regimens. PURPOSE: To systematically assess the efficacy of psychological intervention for patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) in easing negative emotion and improving quality of life, so as to provide evidence-based reference for clinical psycho-intervention of HNC patients. METHODS: PubMed, Central, Embase, clinicaltrials.gov, ICTRP, Web of science, CBM, CNKI, VIP, and Wan Fang database were searched from inception to 15th, May for randomized controlled trails conducted to assess psychological intervention for HNC patients. The retrieval, screening, quality evaluation, and data extraction were elaborately proceeded by two reviewers independently. Meta analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4 software. RESULTS: Eighteen RCTs were included with 2 097 participants. Meta analysis showed that compared to control group, psychological intervention group manifested greater decrease in anxiety scores [SMD=-2.33, 95%CI(-2.96,-1.70), P<0.000 01] and depression scores [SMD=-2.26, 95%CI(-2.78,-1.74), P<0.000 01], and better increase in QOL scores [SMD=6.04, 95%CI(1.53,10.56), P=0.009] and SQL-90 scores [MD=29.99, 95%CI(-36.22, -23.76),P<0.000 01]. CONCLUSIONS: The anxiety and depression of HNC patients can be effectively relieved through psychological intervention, so that their quality of life and metal health status can be improved. Due to the limitation of quality of included RCT , the result remains to be further validated by more well-designed and better-qualified study.

INTRODUCTION: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a prevalent symptom in cancer survivors. Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) has been reported as a promising therapy for CRF. This protocol is proposed for a systematic review that aims to assess the efficacy and safety of TEAS for CRF. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, Medline, Embase, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP, Wanfang database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Chinese Clinical Trial Registry System, ClinicalTrials.gov and WHO International Clinical Trial Registry Platform will be searched from inception to 31 January 2021 without language limitations. The eligible randomised controlled trials will be included. The primary outcomes include changes in the revised Piper fatigue scale, the Brief fatigue inventory, the Multidimensional fatigue inventory and the Functional assessment of chronic illness therapy fatigue. The secondary outcomes are the quality-of-life measurement index, the Hamilton anxiety scale, the Hamilton depression scale and adverse events. The selection of studies, data extraction and assessment of risk of bias will be conducted independently by two reviewers. Data synthesis will be performed using RevMan V.5.4.1. RESUMEN

Methamphetamine (METH), an amphetamine-type psychostimulant, is highly abused worldwide. Chronic abuse of METH causes neurodegenerative changes in central dopaminergic neurons with numerous neuropsychiatric consequences. Neuronal apoptosis plays a critical role in METH-induced neurotoxicity and may provide promising pharmacological targets for preventing and treating METH addiction. In recent years, accumulating evidence has revealed that natural products may possess significant potentials to inhibit METH-evoked neuronal apoptosis. In this review, we summarized and analyzed the improvement effect of natural products on METH-induced neuronal apoptosis and their potential molecular mechanisms on modulating dopamine release, oxidative stress, mitochondrial-dependent apoptotic pathway, endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated apoptotic pathway, and neuroinflammation. Hopefully, this review may highlight the potential value of natural products in modulating METH-caused neuronal apoptosis and provide useful information for future research and developments of novel and efficacious pharmacotherapies in this field.

BACKGROUND: Zhilong Huoxue Tongyu capsule (ZL) is a Chinese patent medicine and used for the treatment of acute cerebral infarction (ACI) and its clinical application has gradually been widely recognized in China. However, the effects of ZL for patients with ACI have never been systematically evaluated. PURPOSE: A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the efficacy of ZL in ACI. STUDY DESIGN: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials (RCTs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses guidelines. The comprehensive literature search was accomplished in 6 electronic databases to find relevant randomized controlled trials from their inception until October 31, 2020. The Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions was used for methodological quality and independent evaluation. Review Manager 5.3 was used to analyze all the data obtained. The Clinical Effective Rate (CER) was the primary outcome, and the National Institutes of Health Stroke Score (NIHSS), Barthel Index (BI), and Modified Rankin Scale (MRS) were the secondary outcomes. RESULTS: Seven clinical studies recruiting 571 eligible patients were included in this meta-analysis. The results of meta-analysis suggested that compared with conventional treatment alone, ZL combined with conventional treatment significantly improved CER (RR = 1.20, 95% CI: 1.12-1.29, p < 0.00001), decrease National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale Score (NIHSS) (MD = -2.60, 95% CI: -3.41-1.79, p < 0.00001), Barthel Index (BI) (MD = -9.75, 95% CI: 7.15-12.36, p < 0.00001) and Modified Rankin Scale (MRS) (MD = -0.57, 95% CI: -0.84-0.30, p < 0.00001). There were no reported adverse events in the studies. Most results were robust and the quality of evidence was from moderate to low. CONCLUSION: ZL combined with conventional treatment can improve the short-term outcomes of ACI patients, indicating ZL is a promising treatment choice for ACI and may be used as adjunctive treatment to the conventional treatment of ACI. However, due to the limitations of included clinical trials, high-quality clinical trials with longer follow-ups are still needed to further assess the effectiveness and safety of ZL for ACI patients.

BACKGROUND: Owing to their incomplete adaptation to the terrestrial environment, amphibians possess complex cutaneous glandular systems. The skin glands not only regulate water loss and respiratory gas and salt exchange, but are also involved in defense against predators and microorganisms, social communication, and reproduction. These glands are distributed throughout the integument, but can accumulate in specific regions, forming visible outgrowths known as macroglands. Some macroglands are sexually dimorphic and mediate intersexual communication and reproductive success. The postaxillary gland is a sexually dimorphic macrogland in Nidirana pleuraden. Its biological function and its morphological and histochemical characteristics are unclear. In the present study, we describe the structure and ultrastructure of the postaxillary gland, and explore its main function. RESULTS: The postaxillary gland has a thinner epidermis than the dorsal region of N. pleuraden. In addition to ordinary serous glands (OSG), type I and II mucous gland (I MG & II MG), a type of specialized mucous gland (SMG) is also found to constitute the postaxillary gland. The SMG is larger than other gland types, and consists of high columnar mucocytes with basal nuclei arranged radially toward a lumen. SMGs are positive to periodic acid-Schiff stain and stained blue in Masson's trichrome stain. A discontinuous myoepithelial sheath lacking innervation encircles SMG mucocytes, and the outlets of such glands are X- or Y-shaped. Transmission electron microscopy reveals abundant secretory granules in SMG, which are biphasic, composed of an electron-opaque outer ring and a less electron-dense core. Lipid droplets, and organelles, such as rough endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi stacks, are located in the supranuclear cytoplasm of the mucocytes in SMG. Female N. pleuraden exhibits chemotaxis toward homogenate of the postaxillary gland, but male does not. On treatment with trypsin, this sexual attraction disappears. CONCLUSIONS: The postaxillary gland of N. pleuraden is a male-specific macrogland that consists primarily of SMGs, together with OSGs, I MGs and II MGs. Other than their extremely large size, SMGs structurally and histochemically resemble many reported specialized gland types in amphibian sexually dimorphic skin glands. Secretions of the postaxillary gland are proteinaceous sexual pheromones, which are believed to attract females at male calling intermissions.

A novel technique called AOSD@Job's, combining asynchronous orthogonal sample design scheme (AOSD) with Job's method, is proposed to estimate the stoichiometric ratio of two substances that form a supramolecular aggregate under intermolecular interactions. First, a mathematical analysis was performed along with the procedure of the AOSD@Job's method. Then, the validity of the AOSD@Job's method was manifested by computer simulation on two model systems. Finally, the AOSD@Job's method was applied on two real chemical systems. The stoichiometric ratio between the coordination complex of Ni2+ and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA) was estimated to be 1.0. Benzyl alcohol (BA) and ß-cyclodextrin (ß-CD) were determined to form a 1 : 1 host-guest complex. These values were consistent with the values reported in the literature. Compared with the traditional Job's method, the AOSD@Job's method has an evident advantage since it is still valid even if all the peaks of the supramolecular aggregate severely overlap with the peaks of the substances that form the aggregate.

3A2g→3T1g(P) transition band of Ni2+ is used to probe the coordination of Ni2+. Two-dimensional asynchronous spectra (2DCOS) are generated using the Double Asynchronous Orthogonal Sample Design (DAOSD), Asynchronous Spectrum with Auxiliary Peaks (ASAP) and Two-Trace Two-Dimensional (2T2D) approaches. Cross peaks relevant to the 3A2g→3T1g(P) transition band of Ni2+ are utilized to probe coordination between Ni2+ and various ligands. We studied the spectral behavior of the 3A2g→3T1g(P) transition band when Ni2+ is coordinated with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA). The pattern of cross peaks in 2D asynchronous spectrum demonstrates that coordination brings about significant blue shift of the band. In addition, the absorptivity of the band increases remarkably. The interaction between Ni2+ and galactitol is also investigated. Although no clearly observable change is found on the 3A2g→3T1g(P) transition band when galactitol is introduced, the appearance of cross peak in 2D asynchronous spectrum demonstrates that coordination indeed occurs between Ni2+ and galactitol. Furthermore, the pattern of cross peak indicates that peak position, bandwidth and absorptivity of the 3A2g→3T1g(P) transition band of Ni(galactitol)x2+ is considerably different from those of Ni(H2O)62+. Thus, 2DCOS is helpful to reveal subtle spectral variation, which might be helpful in shedding light on the physical-chemical nature of coordination.
