ABSTRACT

Lung cancer is the malignant tumor with the highest morbidity and mortality in China. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the main pathological subtype of lung cancer. On April 13, 2023, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) released the third edition of the 2023 NCCN Oncology Clinical Practice Guidelines: Non-small Cell Lung Cancer, which reflects the latest advances in international lung cancer research. This article will interpret the main updated contents of the new edition of the guidelines, and compare it with the third edition of the NCCN guidelines in 2022, so as to provide references about the diagnosis and treatment of NSCLC for clinical medical personnel in China.

ABSTRACT

Acupoint-symptom relationship in CHENG Dan-an's Note About Treatise on Cold-Attack was analyzed based on complex network, acupoint names and indications were extracted from the book, which provided ideas and methods for promoting the modernization of acupuncture and moxibustion by using complex network technology. A total of 112 acupoints in 201 acupuncture prescriptions were included, and the total frequency of acupoints was 880 times, forming 42 034 acupoint pairs. In terms of network indexes, compared with the complex network of comprehensive acupuncture books, such as Meridian and Acupoint Science, Zhenjiu Dacheng, Acupuncture A and B Meridians formed based on the same mathematical method, the complex network model for CHENG Dan-an's Note About Treatise on Cold-Attack shows more typical small world effect, which is characterized by higher network density (6.762) and shorter average path length (1.064). This phenomenon may be related to the tongue and pulse which added the link between acupoints. For the node indexes, the analysis of topological indexes such as Page Rank shows that acupoints represented by Dazhui (GV 14) has higher compatibility value in the treatment of exogenous diseases, which further demonstrates the clinical value of eigenvector centrality in guiding intelligent compatibility of points.

ABSTRACT

Myocardial apoptosis contributes to acute ethanol-induced cardiac injury. Improving immoderate apoptosis has become the potential therapeutic strategy for acute ethanol-induced heart damage. Previous studies reported that Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA), a key ingredient extracted from Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge, performed an anti-apoptotic role against acute ethanol-related cell damage. In this study, we investigated whether Tan IIA protected the acute ethanol-induced cardiac damage in vivo and in vitro. C57BL/6 mice were treated with acute ethanol and then treated with Tan IIA. The results showed that Tan IIA significantly improved heart function and blocked myocardial apoptosis. Acute ethanol exposure induced H9C2 cells apoptosis. Treatment with Tan IIA abrogated acute ethanol-induced H9C2 cells apoptosis. Mechanistically, Tan IIA inhibited apoptosis by downregulating the programmed cell death protein 4 (PDCD4) expression and activating the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt pathway. Furthermore, PDCD4 overexpression abrogated Tan IIA-mediated anti-apoptotic role and activation on the PI3K/Akt pathway. Interestingly, the PI3K inhibitor (LY294002) application significantly attenuated the main protective effects of Tan IIA. In conclusion, Tan IIA improves acute ethanol-induced myocardial apoptosis mainly through regulating the PDCD4 expression and activating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. We provide evidence that Tan IIA is a new treatment approach for acute ethanol-induced heart damage.

ABSTRACT

Six commercial red sorghum varieties (Tong Za 117, 141, 142 and 143, Chi Za 109 and 101) were investigated for their triacylglycerol (TAG) profiles, soluble and bound phenolics, and radical scavenging and anti-inflammatory activities. A total of 21 TAGs were identified in red sorghum oils for the first time. Total phenolic (TPC) and flavonoid contents (TFC) in the soluble or bound phenolic fractions differed among red sorghums. Significant correlation among TPC, TFC and DPPH radical scavenging activities was observed in both fractions. Except for caffeic acid, most of phenolic acids in red sorghums are in the bound form. Soluble 3-deoxyanthocyanidins contents (2.12-57.14 µg/g) were significantly higher than those of bound forms (0.01-0.18 µg/g) regardless of sorghum varieties and types of 3-deoxyanthocyanidins. Moreover, the stronger anti-inflammatory capacity of soluble phenolic fraction in Tong Za 117 correlated with its higher TPC, TFC and radical scavenging activity than those of its bound counterpart.
