ABSTRACT

In the present study, the effects of high-pressure processing (HPP) on the binding capacity, structural properties, antioxidant capacity and stability of rhamngalacturonan I (RG-I) pectin and cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G) were investigated. HPP was found to have a positive effect on the binding between the two molecules, and the binding rate was increased by 32.8% after treatment (500 MPa/15 min). The increase in the binding rate is mainly due to the influence of high pressure on noncovalent effects such as hydrogen bonding and hydrophobicity. The results indicate that high pressure can be used to maintain the antioxidant capacity of C3G and improve the stability of C3G. The C3G retention rate is increased by 34.0% and 38.3% after heat treatment and simulated digestion, respectively. The results indicate that HPP improved stability of the C3G-RG-I pectin complex through interaction between C3G and RG-I pectin.

ABSTRACT

High pressure processing (HPP) has become a promising strategy for extracting bioactive constituents. In this study, the impact of HPP treatment at various pH values (2.0, 8.0, and 12.0) on the macromolecular, structural, antioxidant capacity, rheological characteristics and gel properties of citrus pectic polysaccharide was investigated. The results showed that pressure and pH significantly affected the yield and Rhamnogalacturonan I (RG-I) characterizations. The yields of high pressure extraction at pH 12 (28.13 %-33.95 %) were significantly higher than the yields at pH 2 (14.85 %-16.11 %) and pH 8 (8.75 %-9.65 %). The yield of HPP (500 MPa/10 min) assisted alkali extraction is more than 2 times of that of HPP assisted acid extraction. The RG-I structure ratio of HPP-alkali extraction pectic polysaccharide (74.51 %) was significantly higher than that of traditional pectin (41.83 %). The results showed that HPP assisted alkali is a potential pectic polysaccharide extraction technology.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: With excellent shape memory and superelastic properties, shape memory alloy (SMA) is an ideal actuator, and it can form smart structure for different applications in medical field. However, SMA devices cause apparent thermal damage to the surrounding tissues when it works in vivo, making the application of smart structure that is composed of SMA actuator in vivo is greatly limited. METHODS: In this paper, coating (APA) with PLA as the main body to limit the heat conduction, a multifunctional Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs)/polylactic acid (PLA)/Al2O3 was synthesized. The Al2O3 layer was formed by micro-arc oxidation (MAO) and AgNPs were synthesized by silver nitrate and ethylene glycol. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, and Fourier transform infrared spectra were applied to analyze the morphology and characterization of APA coating. The antimicrobial activity, thermal insulation activity, and biocompatibility of APA coating were furtherly explored and verified through animal experiments and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: With different particle sizes and concentrations of AgNPs, APA multi-functional films were successfully prepared. The Al2O3 layer was closely combined with SMA and formed a porous surface, so the PLA and AgNPs layers can firmly adhere to SMA, thus reducing the release of nickel ions in SMA. AgNPs gave APA coating excellent antibacterial activity and effectively inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. In addition, coupled with the low thermal conductivity of PLA and Al2O3, AgNPs were tightly anchored on the surface of PLA, which has high infrared reflectivity, making the APA coating obtain good thermal insulation performance. CONCLUSION: We have successfully prepared the APA coating and obtained the optimum amount of AgNPs, which makes it have good thermal insulation performance, good antibacterial activity and good biocompatibility, which provides a new prospect for the application of SMA.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the therapeutic effect of treatment for intermediate and high-frequency sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL). METHODS: A prospective clinical multicentre research was conducted using international standardized approach of clinical research. SSNHL Cases with intermediate and high-frequency hearing loss, that accepted no medication from onset of hearing loss within two weeks duration and ages ranged between 18 and 65, were collected. All patients were treated by one of four treatments plans chosen by unified random table. RESULTS: 141 patients with intermediate and high-frequency SSNHL were recruited in the research. Twenty subjects were treated with lidocaine, 21 cases with lidocaine and hormone, 40 cases with Ginaton, and 60 cases with Ginaton and hormone. 42 out of 141 (29.79%) patients were total recovery, 24 (17.02%)achieved excellent recovery, 27 (19.15%)achieved partial recovery, and 48 (34.04%) were ineffective. The total effective rate was 65.96%. In lidocaine group, the total effective rate was 55.00%, 66.67% in lidocaine and hormone group, 67.50% in Ginaton group, and 68.33% in Ginaton and hormone group. Considering the total effective rate, there was no statistical difference between four groups (P > 0.05). However, the recovery rate in Ginaton group was significant difference comparing with that in lidocaine group (P = 0.0496). 119 had concomitant symptom of tinnitus, and the tinnitus was improved in patients of 81.51%. With regard to total effective rate of tinnitus in four treatment groups, it was 57.89% (11/19) in lidocaine group, 100.00% (18/18) in lidocaine and hormone group, 88.57% (31/35) in Ginaton group, 78.72% (37/47) in Ginaton and hormone group. There was significant ascendancy in lidocaine and hormone group versus that in lidocaine group (P = 0.002) and Ginaton and hormone group (P = 0.029). And the difference between lidocaine and Ginaton groups was statistical significance (χ(2) = 6.705, P < 0.05). In 43 patients with muffled symptom in aural region, 90.70% was partial recovery. There was no statistical difference between each groups (χ(2) = 5.97,P = 0.74). There were 17 with dizziness or vertigo improved in all cases. Another 10 patients accompanied other complaints all improved. CONCLUSIONS: for the treat of intermediate and high-frequency SSNHL, the therapeutic effect in hearing has no significantly different between single and combined drug therapies. Considering the recovery rate, there is an obvious advantage in Ginaton group compared with lidocaine group. Tinnitus is the major concomitant symptom in intermediate and high-frequency SSNHL, and lidocaine and hormone therapy should be used.
