ABSTRACT

A reliable, simple, and sensitive method capable of quantifying six organosulfur compounds (OSCs) was established. The samples were extracted by water containing 3 % formic acid with a simple vortex, ultrasound, and centrifugation step, and the solutions were analyzed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography separation system coupled with a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry (UHPLC - MS/MS). Then the method was applied for the analysis of six OSCs in five varieties of two types Welsh onions in China, and the moisture content, reducing sugar, total polyphenols, and 21 free amino acids were also analyzed to study the characters of these Welsh onions intensively. Multivariate statistical analysis was used to investigate the differences in OSCs and free amino acids profiles among the samples. This study showed that enzymatic inhibition method combined with UHPLC - MS/MS is an effective technique to analyze OSCs in Welsh onion, and could be valuable for the routine quantitation of OSCs in other foods.

ABSTRACT

Lindera megaphylla, a broad-leaved evergreen that is used as a landscape ornamental plant and medicinal plant, is an ecologically important and dominant tree species. However, little is known about the molecular mechanisms of its growth, development, and metabolism. The selection of suitable reference genes is critical for molecular biological analyses. To date, no research on reference genes as a foundation for gene expression analysis has been undertaken in L. megaphylla. In this study, 14 candidate genes were selected from the transcriptome database of L. megaphylla for RT-qPCR assay under different conditions. Results showed that helicase-15 and UBC28 were most stable in different tissues of seedlings and adult trees. For different leaf developmental stages, the best combination of reference genes was ACT7 and UBC36. UBC36 and TCTP were the best under cold treatment, while PAB2 and CYP20-2 were the best under heat treatment. Finally, a RT-qPCR assay of LmNAC83 and LmERF60 genes were used to further verify the reliability of selected reference genes above. This work is the first to select and evaluate the stability of reference genes for the normalization of gene expression analysis in L. megaphylla and will provide an important foundation for future genetic studies of this species.

ABSTRACT

Grains account for a large proportion of the diet of rural residents in Tibet. The lack of selenium (Se) and zinc (Zn) threatens the population's nutrition and health. However, the intakes of selenium and zinc in grains remains unclear. To clarify the nutritional status of selenium and zinc consumed from staple grains of residents along the Yarlung Zangbo River in Tibet, 341 grain samples and 242 urine samples were collected, and 244 food frequency questionnaires were completed along the Yarlung Zangbo River in 2020-2021. The results showed that the selenium concentrations of 88.5% of self-produced tsampa and 80.8% of self-produced flour were lower than the grain selenium threshold (<25 µg·kg-1). The intake of selenium and zinc from staple grains (tsampa, flour, and rice) contributed 15.0% and 43.5% to the recommended nutrient intake (RNI) on average, respectively. A geographical detector model analyzed factors affecting urinary selenium and zinc levels. Selenium and zinc intakes in rice and flour, and dietary diversity score (DDS) were the main factors affecting urinary selenium and zinc (p < 0.01). Their interaction effects on urinary selenium and zinc were greater than those of a single factor. The staple grains of rural residents along the Yarlung Zangbo River were in a state of selenium deficiency. The zinc content of the staple grain purchased was lower than that of the main grain produced by rural residents. Changing the grain consumption pattern and adjusting the proportion of exogenous grains can improve selenium and zinc nutrition in residents.

ABSTRACT

The concentrations of trace elements in agricultural soils directly affect the ecological security and quality of agricultural products. A comprehensive study aimed at quantitatively analyze the effects of anthropogenic and natural environmental factors on the spatial distribution of heavy metals (HMs) and selenium (Se) in agricultural soils in a typical grain producing area of China. Factors considered in this study were parent rock, soil physicochemical properties, topography, precipitation, mine activity, and vegetation. Results showed that the median values of Zn, Cd, Cr, and Cu of 111 topsoil samples exceeded the background values of Guangxi province but were lower than the relevant national soil quality standards, and 85% of soil samples were classified as having rich Se levels (0.40 -3.0 mg kg-1). The potential ecological risk index of soil heavy metals as a whole was low, with Cd in 9% of the samples posing moderate ecological risk. The concentrations of heavy metals and Se were relatively high in soils from shale rock. Soil properties, mainly Fe2O3 and Mn played a dominant role on soil HMs and Se concentrations. Based on GeoDetector, we found that the interaction effects of two factors on the spatial differentiation of soil HMs and Se were greater than their sum effect. Among the factors, Mn enhanced the explanatory power of the model the most when interacting with other factors for soil Zn; the greatest interactive effect was between distance from mining area and Mn for Cd (q = 0.70); Fe2O3 significantly promoted the spatial differentiation of soil Cr, Cu and Se when interacting with other factors (q > 0.50). These findings contribute to a better understanding of the factors that drive the distribution of HMs and Se in agricultural soils.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Adolescent myopia has become a major public health problem in Asian countries and even the world. Due to its unstable prognosis and numerous complications, it has caused serious social and economic burden. As a common treatment in Asia, Chinese medicine has been shown to be effective in controlling the development of myopia, but its evidence-based medical evidence is not sufficient. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of adolescent myopia through network meta-analysis, and to provide evidence for clinical and scientific research. METHODS: We searched seven databases for randomized controlled trials of TCM decoction for adolescent myopia, including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, EMbase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Biological Medicine, Chinese Scientific Journals Database, and wan-fang databases, from the date of the establishment of each database to January 31, 2022. The network meta-analysis will be implemented through Aggregate Data Drug Information System 1.16.8 and Stata 13.0 software. Primary outcomes include distant vision, intraocular pressure, and diopter. Mean differences or odds ratios will be used for statistical analysis. We will ensure the reliability of the results through node-split model and heterogeneity analysis. In addition, the Cochrane Collaboration's tool and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system will be used for the methodological quality and the evidence quality. RESULTS: This study will provide reliable evidence for the clinical selection of TCM decoction in the treatment of adolescent myopia. CONCLUSION: The results of this study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of TCM decoction in the treatment of adolescent myopia, and provide decision-making references for future clinical and scientific research. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: This study did not require ethical approval. We will disseminate our findings by publishing results in a peer-reviewed journal. ABSTRACT

Selenium (Se) is an essential micronutrient for animals and humans, and it is present in many different forms with different levels of bioaccessibility in food. Based on the maldistribution of Se and overall low level of Se dietary intake in China, an integrated study was conducted in this thesis to provide references for the regulation of Se nutrition. An in vitro simulation test was used to monitor the concentration effects, the impacts of dietary supplement combinations on the bioaccessibility of Se were examined in rice, and a model animal experiment (in vivo) was used to evaluate the practicability of the Se nutrition regulation scheme. The main results were as follows: the bioaccessibility of Se was effectively increased by 30 mg·d-1 VE (VE), 300 mg·d-1 VC + 300 µg·d-1 VB9 (VC+VB9) and 30 mg·d-1 VE + 300 mg·d-1 VC + 300 µg·d-1 VB9 (3IN1) (P < 0.05). The results of the healthy broiler tests showed that the 3 treatments increased the weight and Se content of the broilers, and 3IN1 had the most significant effect (P < 0.05). VC+VB9 was the best at promoting GPx activity, while 3IN1 was the best at promoting SOD activity and the inhibition of MDA content in broilers. The results suggested that VE, VC+VB9 and 3IN1 can benefit the bioavailability of Se and the antioxidant capacity of the body. The results can be used as a scientific reference for Se nutrition regulation.

Drinking water is considered to be an important exposure pathway for humans to ingest trace elements; human urine samples are widely accepted as biometric substrates that can reflect human exposure to trace elements. The current study aimed at investigating the concentrations of trace elements including selenium (Se), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn) in drinking water and human urine in plateau region of China, determining the association among trace elements in drinking water and urine, and analyzing their associations with age and gender. The results showed that the majority of trace element concentrations were in the range of the World Health Organization (WHO 2011) guideline values, in both urine samples of male and female, and the median values were descending in the order: Zn > Cu > As > Se > Cr > Ni > Mn > Pb > Cd > Co. Selenium contributed to the excretion of As, Cr, Cu, Cd, and Zn in human body, group of 31-40 years appeared to present the greatest excretion ability in most of the trace elements. Weak positive correlations were observed between age and Mn in female urine samples, and negative correlations were observed between age and Se, As, Co, and Cu in male urine samples and between age and Co in female urine samples, respectively. Significant positive correlation was observed in As between drinking water and the whole human urine. In the same family, female seemed to show higher proportions of urinary As levels than male. This study will provide elementary information regarding trace element levels in drinking water and human urine in residents in plateau region of China and is helpful to provide reference for dietary nutrient trace element intake and effective control for local resident.

ABSTRACT

Melicope pteleifolia, an important medicinal and horticultural plant, has antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effects. Here, the complete chloroplast genome of M. pteleifolia was sequenced and its phylogenetic relationship was investigated. The complete chloroplast genome of M. pteleifolia was 159,014 bp in size, including a pair of inverted repeat regions (IR, 27,640 bp), a large single copy region (LSC, 85,124 bp), and a small single copy region (SSC, 18,610 bp). The GC content of the chloroplast genome was 38.3%. A total of 133 genes were annotated, including 88 protein-coding genes, 8 rRNA genes, and 37 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that M. pteleifolia clusters together with species of Toddalia, Zanthoxylum, Tetradium, Phellodendron, and Casimiroa.

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia (CIT) can increase the risk of bleeding, which may delay or prevent the administration of anticancer treatment schedules. Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), a non-invasive physical treatment, has been proposed to improve thrombocytopenia; however, its underlying regulatory mechanism is not fully understood. OBJECTIVE: To further investigate the mechanism of thrombopoietin (TPO) in megakaryocytopoiesis and thrombopoiesis. METHODS: Multiple approaches such as western blotting, cell transfection, flow cytometry, and animal studies were utilized to explore the effect and mechanism of PBMT on thrombopoiesis. RESULTS: PBMT prevented a severe drop in platelet count by increasing platelet production, and then ameliorated CIT. Mechanistically, PBMT significantly upregulated hepatic TPO expression in a thrombocytopenic mouse model, which promoted megakaryocytopoiesis and thrombopoiesis. The levels of TPO mRNA and protein increased by PBMT via the Src/ERK/STAT3 signaling pathway in hepatic cells. Furthermore, the generation of the reactive oxygen species was responsible for PBMT-induced activation of Src and its downstream target effects. CONCLUSIONS: Our research suggests that PBMT is a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of CIT.

Trace elements such as selenium (Se) and zinc (Zn) are essential elements in the human body, while cadmium (Cd) has no physiological function. A high proportion of people consume dietary supplements to enhance the performance of the body or alter the nutrient contents within the body. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the interaction effects of several popular dietary supplements on the bioaccessibility of Se, Zn and Cd in rice with the hope of identifying dietary supplements that can increase rice Se and Zn bioaccessibility but decrease rice Cd bioaccessibility. The results from in vitro gastrointestinal simulation tests showed that the bioaccessibility of these elements in rice was in the order of Cd (52.07%) > Zn (36.63%) > Se (10.19%) during the gastric phase and Zn (26.82%) > Cd (18.72%) > Se (14.70%) during the intestinal phase. The bioaccessibility of Se during the intestinal phase was greater than that during the gastric phase, and the bioaccessibility of Zn and Cd were the opposite. The bioaccessibility of Se significantly increased in response to vitamin C (VC), vitamin E (VE), vitamin B6 (VB6) and vitamin B9 (VB9), especially VC, which also increased the bioaccessibility of Zn and decreased that of Cd. Procyanidins (OPC), methionine (Met) and coenzyme Q10 (Q10) significantly reduced the bioaccessibility of Se. These results suggest that the reasonable use of dietary supplements can effectively regulate the in vivo contents of trace elements, which provide valuable information for developing health interventions to address problems for specific people, especially selenium-deficient people.

BACKGROUND: Lycium barbarum and L. ruthenicum have been used as traditional medicinal plants in China and other Asian counties for centuries. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying fruit development and ripening, as well as the associated production of medicinal and nutritional components, have been little explored in these two species. RESULTS: A competitive transcriptome analysis was performed to identify the regulators and pathways involved in the fruit ripening of red wolfberry (L. barbarum) and black wolfberry (L. ruthenicum) using an Illumina sequencing platform. In total, 155,606 genes and 194,385 genes were detected in red wolfberry (RF) and black wolfberry (BF), respectively. Of them, 20,335, 24,469, and 21,056 genes were differentially expressed at three different developmental stages in BF and RF. Functional categorization of the differentially expressed genes revealed that phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, flavonoid biosynthesis, anthocyanin biosynthesis, and sugar metabolism were the most differentially regulated processes during fruit development and ripening in the RF and BF. Furthermore, we also identified 38 MYB transcription factor-encoding genes that were differentially expressed during black wolfberry fruit development. Overexpression of LrMYB1 resulted in the activation of structural genes for flavonoid biosynthesis and led to an increase in flavonoid content, suggesting that the candidate genes identified in this RNA-seq analysis are credible and might offer important utility. CONCLUSION: This study provides novel insights into the molecular mechanism of Lycium fruit development and ripening and will be of value to novel gene discovery and functional genomic studies.

Selenium (Se) and zinc (Zn) are essential microelements for humans with crucial biological functions. In this study, we determined Se and Zn concentrations in soils and rice grains on Hainan Island and investigated how their spatial distributions are related to soil mineral elements, topography, and vegetation coverage. Overall, the concentrations of Se and Zn in soils were higher than the background values for Chinese soil; the Se concentrations in rice grains were higher than the threshold value for Se deficiency in grains, but Zn concentrations were lower than the proposed critical concentration. Both Spearman's correlation and stepwise regression analysis showed that the concentrations of soil Fe and Ca significantly affected soil Se and Zn: a difference of 1 g kg-1 in soil Fe changed soil Se by 2.820 µg kg-1 and soil Zn by 0.785 mg kg-1, respectively, while a difference of 1 g kg-1 in soil Ca changed soil Se by 3.249 µg kg-1 and soil Zn by 0.356 mg kg-1, respectively. For rice grains, Se and Zn concentrations decreased with increasing elevation; every 100 m increase in elevation could decrease Se by 0.022 mg kg-1 and Zn by 0.912 mg kg-1. Moreover, the impact of Fe and Ca on soil Zn was relatively strong in the northeast region, while the influence of elevation on rice grain Se was more significant in the central region. The findings contribute to a better understanding of factors driving the distribution of Se and Zn in soils and crops.

ABSTRACT

In order to explore the characteristics of the rare earth elements (REEs) and selenium (Se) among the Chinese centenarians, the concentrations of REE and Se were detected in the hair of healthy centenarians living in typical Chinese longevity region, and the influences of physiological conditions and behavior on the concentrations of REE and Se were assessed. The average values of light RE (LRE) and heavy RE (HRE) are 31.87 and 11.12 ng/g. Female centenarians had higher concentrations of lanthanum (La), praseodymium (Pr), gadolinium (Gd), terbium (Tb), erbium (Er), thulium (Tm), yttrium (Y), and Se but lower levels of cerium (Ce), neodymium (Nd), samarium (Sm), europium (Eu), dysprosium (Dy), holmium (Ho), ytterbium (Yb), and lutetium (Lu). Except for Ce, the higher the age, the lower the REE and Se content were. Smoking was positively associated with Dy, Er, and Yb levels, whereas drinking habits showed no significant effect on all the elements. Elderly individuals who ate smoked and pickled food and who consumed high amounts of salt had higher levels of REE and Se in their hair, and centenarians who consumed egg and milk had higher Se and REE in the hair than did the non-eaters. This comprehensive study on the REE and Se concentrations among the healthy centenarians can provide scientific support for shaping a healthy aging society.

ABSTRACT

Macrosolen plants are parasitic shrubs, several of which are important medicinal plants, that are used as folk medicine in some provinces of China. However, reports on Macrosolen are limited. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome sequences of Macrosolen cochinchinensis, Macrosolen tricolor and Macrosolen bibracteolatus are reported. The chloroplast genomes were sequenced by Illumina HiSeq X. The length of the chloroplast genomes ranged from 129,570 bp (M. cochinchinensis) to 126,621 bp (M. tricolor), with a total of 113 genes, including 35 tRNA, eight rRNA, 68 protein-coding genes, and two pseudogenes (ycf1 and rpl2). The simple sequence repeats are mainly comprised of A/T mononucleotide repeats. Comparative genome analyses of the three species detected the most divergent regions in the non-coding spacers. Phylogenetic analyses using maximum parsimony and maximum likelihood strongly supported the idea that Loranthaceae and Viscaceae are monophyletic clades. The data obtained in this study are beneficial for further investigations of Macrosolen in respect to evolution and molecular identification.

ABSTRACT

Studying the effects of rainfall change on morphological characteristics, spatial pattern and spatial correlation of desert dominant plants could help to predict the response of desert ecosystem to global climate change. We conducted a 10-year simulated rainfall addition experiment and examined the morphological characteristics, spatial pattern and spatial correlation of typical desert plant species, Nitraria tangutorum and Artemisia ordosica, under long-term simulated rainfall enhancement conditions in Ulanbuh desert, using Programita software, Ripley's K function, and Monte Carlo method. The results showed that there were significant differences in the number, height, average crown and base diameter of the desert plants under different treatments. The number, height, average crown and base diameter of N. tangutorum and A. ordosica were significantly larger than CK, all of which increased with the amount of rainfall. When the amount of rainfall addition was less than 72 mm, the branch of N. tangutorum showed cluster distribution. When it was larger than 72 mm, it showed a tendency to decrease the aggregation intensity with rainfall increasing. The spatial distribution of A. ordosica population was characterized by random distribution-cluster distribution-random distribution pattern with rainfall increasing. In terms of spatial association, branch of N. tangutorum and A. ordosica showed negative correlation under control, but no correlation or positive correlation with rainfall increasing. When the amount of rainfall increased to 144 mm, the spatial association between two species changed from negative to positive. Under the scenario of increasing rainfall, soil moisture was improved, which would lead to a positive correlation between species and be more conducive to the coexistence and growth of N. tangutorum and A. ordosica.

ABSTRACT

AIMS: This study aims to examine the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) pretreatment on brain injury after cardiac arrest and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CA/CPR) and its underlying mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Adult male C57BL/6 mice were subjected to 6 min of cardiac arrest induced with a potassium chloride infusion and resuscitated by chest compressions and an epinephrine infusion. During the 3 days prior to CA/CRP, mice received EA pretreatment (1 mA, 2 Hz; daily session of 30 min) at the Baihui acupoint (GV20) once daily. Stimulation at a nonacupoint served as a control. In mechanistic studies, mice received the AKT inhibitor LY294002 or endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) inhibitor L-NIO 30 min before EA pretreatment. A neurological assessment was conducted 24 h after CA/CRP, followed by animal sacrifice and evaluation of physiological brain damage. KEY FINDINGS: CA/CPR resulted in severe brain injury as evidenced by neurological deficits and increased neuronal apoptosis, oxidative stress and the proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6. EA pretreatment at the GV20 acupoint but not at a nonacupoint attenuated the neurological deficits and the pathological changes induced by CA/CPR. LY294002 or L-NIO eliminated the neuroprotective effects of the EA pretreatment. SIGNIFICANCE: This study showed that EA pretreatment at the GV20 acupoint can protect the brain from damage associated with globalized ischemia followed by reperfusion and that these protective effects occur via the AKT/eNOS signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

To build up an identification method on cardiac glycosides in Taxillus chinensis and its Nerium indicum host, and evaluate the influence on medicine quality from host to T. chinensis, ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-time-of-flight tandem mass-mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS)was applied. The samples of T. chinensis(harvested from N. indicum)and its N. indicum host were collected in field. The samples of T. chinensis(harvested from Morus alba)and its M. alba host was taken as control substance. All samples were extracted by ultrasonic extraction in 70% ethanol. Chromatographic separation was performed on an ACQUITY UPLC HSS T3 C_(18)(2.1 mm×100 mm,1.8 µm)column at 40 ℃. Gradient elution was applied, and the mobile phase was consisted of 0.1% formic acid water and acetonitrile. The 0.5 µL of sample solution was injected and the flow rate of the mobile phase was kept at 0.6 mL·min~(-1) in each run. It was done to identify cardiac glycosides and explore the chemical composition correlation in T. chinensis and its N. indicum host by analyzing positive and negative ion mode mass spectrometry data, elemental composition, cardiac glycoside reference substance and searching related literatures. A total of 29 cardiac glycosides were identified, 28 of it belonged to N. indicum host, 5 belonged to T. chinensis(harvested from N. indicum host), none of cardiac glycoside was identified in T. chinensis(harvested from M. alba host). The result could provide a reference in evaluating the influence in T. chinensis medicine quality from host. It was rapid, accurate, and comprehensive to identify cardiac glycosides in T. chinensis and its N. indicum host by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS.

To evaluate the effect of the host plant on the quality of Loranthaceae species as medicinal raw material, ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS) was used to identify cardiac glycosides in Nerium indicum and its parasitic plant species Taxillus chinensis and Scurrula parasitica. Samples were collected from N. indicum and these parasites, while Morus alba and its parasite T. chinensis and Osmanthus fragrans and its parasite S. parasitica were used as controls. Based on mass spectrometry data and elemental composition analysis of positive and negative ion modes, in combination with standard cardiac glycosides and relevant literature, cardiac glycosides in N. indicum and its parasites T. chinensis and S. parasitica were identified, and their correlations were analyzed. A total of 29 cardiac glycosides were identified, among which 28 were found in N. indicum parasitized by T. chinensis; 25 cardiac glycosides were identified in the same host under attack by S. parasitica; five cardiac glycosides were identified in both T. chinensis and S. parasitica, which grew parasitically on N. indicum, whereas no cardiac glycosides were identified in M. alba parasitized by T. chinensis, or in O. fragrans parasitized by S. parasitica. We conclude that UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS technology can identify cardiac glycosides in N. indicum and parasites T. chinensis and S. parasitica rapidly, accurately, and thoroughly. N. indicum will transfer its own cardiac glycosides to its parasites through the special host-parasite interaction. Our results provide a reference basis for evaluating the influence of the host plant on the quality of medicinal compounds obtained from Loranthaceae species.

BACKGROUND: Selenium (Se) is essential for humans, with many critical roles in physiological and pathophysiological processes. Fish, eggs and meats are usually the rich food sources of Se. To improve the nutritional status of population, a new version of balanced dietary pattern in the form of the Chinese Food Pagoda (2016) was proclaimed. This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of this balanced dietary pattern to daily Se intake, and to assess Se intake status of Chinese residents under this Food Pagoda scenario. METHODS: Based on the food consumption recommended in the Food Pagoda, this study collected the data of Se contents in various food composites and estimated dietary Se intakes (EITDS) in 12 provinces from the 4th China Total Diet Study. The estimated Se intakes based on the Chinese Food Pagoda (EICHFP) in 12 provinces were calculated. EITDS and EICHFP in various food groups among different regions were compared. RESULTS: The average EICHFP in all regions, within the range of 66.23-145.20 µg/day, was greater than the China recommended nutrient intake (RNI) (60 µg/day). None of the highest EICHFP went beyond the tolerable upper intake level of Se (400 µg/day). Animal source foods should be the primary source of daily Se intake according to the EICHFP. The average EITDS in China (88 µg/day) was in line with its range of EICHFP (81.01-124.25 µg/day), but that in half of the regions failed to achieve their lowest EICHFP. Significant differences between EITDS and EICHFP were observed in cereal food, aquatic and dairy products (P < 0.05), among which Se intake from aquatic and dairy products presented seriously insufficient in almost all regions. CONCLUSIONS: The ideal dietary pattern recommended in the Food Pagoda can meet the daily requirements of Chinese population for Se intake to maintain optimal health. From the perspective of the balanced diet and Se-rich sources, the consumption of aquatic products should be increased appropriately to improve the general Se intake level of Chinese population.
