ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate whether the whole intestinal microbiota transplantation in Alzheimer's disease (AD) model mice has more significant effects on ileum intestinal microenvironment in normal mice under the guidance of the theory of traditional Chinese medicine that "interior-exterior relationship exists between the heart and small intestine". MethodsThe whole intestinal microbiota of fourteen 6-month-old specific pathogen free male APP/PS1 double-transgenic AD model mice was transplanted into the gut of six normal C57BL/6J mice of the same age and background treated with mixed antibiotics for 14 days. Then, after 14 days of normal rearing, the mice were sacrificed. Next, the pathological changes in the ileum and colon were observed, and the composition and diversity of the ileal and colonic microbiota was analyzed by sequencing. ResultsAfter the whole intestinal microbiota of AD mice was transplanted into normal mice, pathological analysis showed that only the ileum tissue had mucosal damage and crypt gland epithelial cell degeneration, necrosis, and shedding. Moreover, the microbiota analysis found that only the number of genera (P<0.01), Chao1 index (P<0.01) and Simpson index of ileal microbiota in normal mice decreased (P<0.01), and the composition of intestinal microbiota was quite similar to that of AD model mice. ConclusionUnder the effect of whole gut microbiota transplantation in AD mice, the diversity and composition of ileal microbiota change more than that of colonic microbiota in normal mice, and at the same time, it results in pathological damage to the ileal mucosa, indicating that the ileal microenvironment may be more closely related to the occurrence and development of AD, which is highly consistent with the traditional Chinese medicine theory of "interior-exterior relationship between heart and small intestine".

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Tertiary hyperparathyroidism (THPT) and vitamin D deficiency are commonly seen in kidney transplant recipients, which may result in persistently elevated fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) level after transplantation and decreased graft survival. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of vitamin D supplementation on THPT, FGF23-alpha Klotho (KLA) axis and cardiovascular complications after transplantation. Materials and methods: Two hundred nine kidney transplant recipients were included and further divided into treated and untreated groups depending on whether they received vitamin D supplementation. We tracked the state of THPT, bone metabolism and FGF23-KLA axis within 12 months posttransplant and explored the predictors and risk factors for intact FGF23 levels, KLA levels, THPT and cardiovascular complications in recipients. Results: Vitamin D supplementation significantly improved FGF23 resistance, THPT and high bone turnover status, preserved better graft function and prevented coronary calcification in the treated group compared to the untreated group at month 12. The absence of vitamin D supplementation was an independent risk factor for THPT and a predictor for intact FGF23 and KLA levels at month 12. Age and vitamin D deficiency were independent risk factors for coronary calcification in recipients at month 12. Conclusion: Vitamin D supplementation effectively improved THPT, FGF23 resistance and bone metabolism, preserved graft function and prevented coronary calcification after transplantation.

ABSTRACT

Intestinal flora is the largest microbial community in human body, which consists of more than 1 000 species. Its structure and metabolites change dynamically with the age, diet and intestinal environment of the host. Study shows that the intestinal microbes play a pivotal role in regulating human physiological and pathological processes, and intestinal flora imbalance may be the key factors affecting the occurrence and development of bone and joint diseases, including osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gouty arthritis. At present, calcitonin, estrogen, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, immunosuppressants, xanthine oxidase inhibitors and other western drugs are mostly used to treat the above diseases. However, long-term use of western drugs leads to poor compliance and obvious gastrointestinal adverse reactions among patients. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) predominates in the treatment of bone and joint diseases due to its low price, high efficacy and slight side effects, with the advantages of multi-targets, multi-mechanism and multi-levels. In recent years, many scholars have carried out experiments and clinical studies on the treatment of bone and joint diseases by TCMs on the basis of the liver and kidney theory such as "tonifying liver and kidney and strengthening muscles and bones". Gratifying results have been achieved. However, the mechanism of action has not been fully clarified. Intestinal flora becomes a hot spot in medical research, and a close relationship between intestinal flora and bone and joint diseases has been unveiled. Relevant literature in China and abroad showed that TCM has a significant effect on the treatment of bone and joint diseases by regulating intestinal flora. In this paper, the relationship between intestinal flora and bone and joint diseases was summarized and the intervention of TCM active ingredients and compounds on intestinal flora was reviewed to facilitate the prevention and treatment of bone and joint diseases by TCM.

ABSTRACT

This article introduces the present development status, medical insurance charges, publicity and influence, legislation and practice of acupuncture-moxibustion in Namibia, and proposes some countermeasures for the current problems in the development of acupuncture-moxibustion in Namibia. Namibia has passed legislation of acupuncture-moxibustion and incorporated acupuncture-moxibustion into the medical insurance system in March 2020. The acupuncture-moxibustion will enter the fast track of development, but the acupuncture-moxibustion education, training and cooperation, talent cultivation mode, reimbursement scope of medical insurance, and standardization construction still need to be steadily improved and strengthened.

ABSTRACT

Poria cocos is a both medicinal and edible Chinese herb variety, with the effects of diuretic, spleen-enhancing and tranquilizing. P. cocos polysaccharide(PCP) is one of the most important active substances of P. cocos. Pharmacological research shows that PCP has a variety of pharmacological activities such as regulating immunity, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidation, antitumor, and liver protection, with a huge development and utilization value. By consulting the relevant literature, we systematically summarized the chemical structures and the research progress on pharmacological activities of PCP and its derivatives in recent years to explore the chemical compositions and activities of PCP thoroughly. In addition, the current problems were discussed in this article to provide reference for further exploration of the structure-activity relationship of PCP and its further development and utilization.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To make statistics on the annual frequency of patients with eczema by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) physique, syndrome differentiation, and western medicine staging based on questionnaire survey, in order to infer the distribution and characteristics of the annual frequency by different TCM physique, syndrome differentiation and western medicine stage, and provide new ideas and new methods for the prevention and treatment of Eczema. Method:According to the Dermatovenerology of Traditional Chinese Medicine edited by QU Xing, and Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment of Chinese Medicine for Dermatovenerology edited by CHEN Da-can, and Traditional Chinese Medicine for Dermology edited by YU Wen-qiu, and Physique Classification and Patient Self-Testing Table formulated by China Association of Chinese Medicine and Professor WANG Qi's nine categories of physique, the TCM Physique Classification and Patient Self-Testing Table for eczema patients and the Syndrome Differentiation and Classification Table for Eczema Patients were formulated. General conditions of 482 cases of eczema patients treated at Tianjin Academy of Traditional TCM Affiliated Hospital and their types of TCM physique, TCM syndrome differentiation, western medicine staging and annual frequency were surveyed. Result:There were significant differences in the annual frequency of patients with different physical constitutions. By single physique, Tanshi, Shire and Qiyu had more frequent occurrences every year, and Pinghe had the lowest annual frequency. There were differences in the annual occurrences among cases with different TCM syndrome types. Shire syndrome patients have more frequent annual occurrences than other types of eczema patients. There were significant differences in the annual occurrences among cases of different western medicine staging, and the annual occurrences of acute eczema were more than those of subacute and chronic eczema. Conclusion:The annual occurrences of patients with Tanshi, Shire and Qiyu physique were higher than those of other physiques. There are fewer outpatients with Pinghe physique than other physiques. The annual occurrences of Shire syndrome patients are higher than that of other types of eczema patients. The annual occurrences of acute eczema are more than those of subacute and chronic eczema. The annual occurrences of chronic eczema are less than acute and subacute eczema.
