ABSTRACT

Stock price prediction is crucial in stock market research, yet existing models often overlook interdependencies among stocks in the same industry, treating them as independent entities. Recognizing and accounting for these interdependencies is essential for precise predictions. Propensity score matching (PSM), a statistical method for balancing individuals between groups and improving causal inferences, has not been extensively applied in stock interdependence investigations. Our study addresses this gap by introducing PSM to examine interdependence among pharmaceutical industry stocks for stock price prediction. Additionally, our research integrates Improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) with long short-term memory (LSTM) networks to enhance parameter selection, improving overall predictive accuracy. The dataset includes price data for all pharmaceutical industry stocks in 2022, categorized into chemical pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, and traditional Chinese medicine. Using Stata, we identify significantly correlated stocks within each sub-industry through average treatment effect on the treated (ATT) values. Incorporating PSM, we match five target stocks per sub-industry with all stocks in their respective categories, merging target stock data with weighted data from non-target stocks for validation in the IPSO-LSTM model. Our findings demonstrate that including non-target stock data from the same sub-industry through PSM significantly improves predictive accuracy, highlighting its positive impact on stock price prediction. This study pioneers PSM's use in studying stock interdependence, conducts an in-depth exploration of effects within the pharmaceutical industry, and applies the IPSO optimization algorithm to enhance LSTM network performance, providing a fresh perspective on stock price prediction research.

ABSTRACT

Background: This study sought to investigate therapeutic effects of hydrogen-rich saline (HRS) combined with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) in an experimental rat model of acute lung injury (ALI). Method: Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham, LPS, LPS + HBO2, LPS + HRS, and LPS + HBO2 + HRS groups. After an intratracheal injection of LPS-induced ALI, the rats were given a single-agent HBO2 or HRS or HBO2 + HRS treatment. The treatments were continued for three days in this experimental rat model of ALI. At the end of experiment, the lung pathological, inflammatory factors, and cell apoptosis in the pulmonary tissue were detected by Tunel method and cell apoptosis rate was calculated accordingly. Results: In the groups treated with HBO2 + HRS, pulmonary pathological data, wet-dry weight ratio, and inflammatory factors of pulmonary tissues and alveolar lavage fluid were significantly superior to those of the sham group (p≺0.05). Cell apoptosis detection revealed that no single agent treatment of HRS or HBO2, or combination treatment, could alleviate all cell apoptosis. HRS combined with HBO2 treatment was superior to single treatment (p≺0.05). Conclusion: HRS or HBO2 single treatment could decrease inflammatory cytokines release in lung tissue, reduce the accumulation of oxidative products and alleviate apoptosis of pulmonary cells, then lead to positive therapeutic effects on ALI induced by LPS. Furthermore, HBO2 combined with HRS treatment presented a synergy effect on cell apoptosis decrease and a decline in inflammatory cytokine release and related inflammatory product generation, compared with a single treatment.

ABSTRACT

Piper longum is a well-known spice and traditional medicine. It was revealed to possess anti-diabetic activity, but few information about its active component and underlying mechanism could be available. In this study, retrofractamides A (1) and C (2) isolated from P. longum showed potent inhibitory activity against PTP1B. Therefore, the potential mechanism was predicted by network pharmacology and molecular docking. PI3K/AKT was obtained as the most remarkable pathway against type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and AKT1 and GSK3ß were yielded as the top two core targets of retrofractamides A (1) and C (2). Molecular docking of compounds with AKT1 and GSK3ß showed strong binding affinity between them. Additionally, cellular experiments with a L6 cell model was conducted to further verify the above predictions. Results indicated that retrofractamides A (1) and C (2) exerted anti-diabetic effect via activating PI3K/AKT pathway, and they promoted glucose consumption, glucose uptake, glycogen synthesis and glycolysis.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: At present, apart from lung transplantation, no drugs can effectively treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Therefore, it is imperative to explore new drugs to control or treat it. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) injections have been widely used in the field of IPF, but there is no comparison of their efficacy in the assisted improvement of IPF. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to network meta-analyze the efficacy and safety of 4 kinds of commonly used TCM injections assisted by conventional treatment to improve the disease. METHODS: Used a computer to find the Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) from the 8 major databases (PubMed, EMbase, CENTRAL, MEDLINE, CBM, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, WanFang Database and VIP Chinese Science). Cochrane's risk assessment tool was used to evaluate the quality of the literature. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach served to assess the certainty in the evidence of direct and indirect estimates. Revman5.3 (Review Manager (RevMan) Version 5.3. Copenhagen: The Nordic Cochrane Centre, The Cochrane Collaboration, 2014.) and stata14.0 (Stata/SE 14.0 for Windows (64-bit). Revision Apr 22, 2015.Copyright 1985-2015 StataCorp LP). were used for Statistical analysis. Registration number: CRD42020220570. RESULTS: After layer-by-layer screening, 20 RCTs were finally included, which include a total of 1363 patients and 4 kinds of RCT of TCM injection (12 studies on Danhong injection, 5 studies on Ligustrazine injection, 2 studies on Huangqi injection and 1 study on Dazhu hongjingtian injection). The results showed: Clinical effective rate: Danhong Injection (Odds ratio [OR] = 3.94, 95% CI [2.34, 6.64], moderate certainty of evidence), Huangqi injection (OR = 3.40, 95% CI [1.38, 8.41], moderate certainty of evidence) and Ligustrazine injection (OR = 2.74, 95% CI [1.62, 4.64], moderate certainty of evidence) combined with conventional treatment had better curative efficacy than that of the conventional treatment group. SUCRA Ranking: Danhong (80.5) > Huangqi (68.5) > Ligustrazine (52.9) > Dazhu hongjingtian (44.3) > Conventional treatment (3.8); Forced Expiratory Volume In 1s/Forced vital capacity%: SUCRA Ranking: Danhong (80.0) > Ligustrazine (62.9) > Conventional treatment (2.1); Carbon monoxide diffusing capacity%: SUCRA Ranking: Ligustrazine (89.9) > Dazhu hongjingtian (63.4) > Danhong (44.9) > Conventional treatment (1.8); Partial pressure of Oxygen: SUCRA Ranking: Dazhu Hongjingtian (87.1) > Danhong (78.8) > Ligustrazine (34.0) > Conventional treatment (0.0); Partial pressure of carbon dioxide: SUCRA Ranking: Danhong (99.3) > Ligustrazine (50.3) > Conventional treatment (0.4). No obvious adverse reactions were found in all studies. CONCLUSION: The four TCM injections combined with conventional treatment can effectively improve the clinical indicators of patients with IPF, and the improvement effect of Danhong injection was more obvious.

ABSTRACT

Rhei Radix et Rhizoma formula granule (RRFG) , Winy Rhei Radix et Rhizoma formula granule(WRFG) and Rhubarb charcoal formula granules (RCFG) are the three most popular and effective formula granules of rhubarb in China and anthraquinone components are their main active ingredients. In order to discuss the difference in anthraquinone components of these three drugs, a simultaneous quantitative analysis method of multicomponents by single-marker (QAMS) was developed. Emodin was chosed as the internal reference standard, the relative correction factors (RCFs) of aloe-emodin, rhein, chrysophanol and physcion were established and the contents of the four components were calculated based on the RCFs, respectively. Meanwhile, the contents of these components was determined by external standard method (ESM) and compared with QAMS to verify its rationality, feasibility and repeatability. The results showed that there were no significant difference between QAMS and ESM (RSDs≤2.26%). The contents of anthraquinone components showed a wide variation in these three drugs. All of 5 components were higher in RRFG than that in the others and RCFG had the lowest content. This method was successfully applied for the evaluation on difference of these drugs and the wide variation in anthraquinone components indicated there were different pharmacodynamic basis.

ABSTRACT

Shabyar (SBA) is a traditional medicine formula for relieving vision loss caused by factors including diabetic retinopathy (DR) in clinics. However, the mechanism of it on retina protective effect still unclear. The present study aimed to investigate whether its protective effect was related to aldose reductase (AR) inhibition and retinal pigment epithelial cell injury mediated by autophagy or not. Human retinal pigment epithelial cells (ARPE-19) induced by high glucose was used as a model in vitro, with Epalrestat (EPL, AR inhibitor) and Difrarel (DFR, DR therapeutic drug) as positive controls. Western blotting and Polyol pathway products assay showed that SBA reduced the expression of AR protein and the content of ROS, and sorbitol, increased the level of Na+-K+-ATPase and alleviated cell edema. Western blotting and DCFH-DA probe assay showed that SBA decreased pAMPK/AMPK and pULK1/ULK1 which associated with autophagy initiation, down-regulated Beclin-1, Atg3, Atg5, Atg7, LC3 II and Bax/Bcl2 ratio, and up-regulated pmTOR/mTOR, SQSTM1/p62 and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), reduces intracellular autophagosomes. Real-Time PCR assay showed that SBA had no significant effect on mRNA expression of AR and mTOR. These data demonstrated that SBA treatment inhibits the autophagy of ARPE-19 through the AMPK/mTOR/ULK1 signaling pathway, and reduced early-stage apoptosis occurred by high glucose. These findings reveal the protective role and mechanism of SBA on retinal pigment epithelium, and provide experimental basis for the clinical application of SBA in the treatment of DR.

BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in many countries is still very serious. At present, there is no specific and effective drug for this disease. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has played a great role in fighting against COVID-19. However, their effectiveness and safety are still obscure and deserve further investigation. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TCM assisted in conventional treatment in the treatment of mild and common COVID-19. METHODS: PubMed, EMbase, MEDLINE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, WANFANG DATA, and VIP Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Database were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non-randomized controlled trials of TCM assisted in conventional treatment. The RCT research quality was evaluated by Cochrane 5.1.0 bias risk scale and the non-randomized controlled trial research quality was evaluated by Newcastle Ottawa scale, and the statistical analysis was conducted by Revman 5.3 and R software. The bias and sensitivity of the statistical results were analyzed by STATA 14.0. Registration number: CRD42020210619. RESULTS: Fifteen studies were included with 7 RCT studies and 8 retrospective cohort studies, involving a total of 1623 patients. Compared with the control group, TCM can improve the main index clinical effective rate (odds ratio [OR] = 2.64, 95% Confidence interval (CI) [1.94,3.59], P < .00001). The results of Begg test (Pr > z = 0.266) and sensitivity analysis showed that the results were relatively stable. Toujie Quwen (OR = 4.9, 95%CI [1.9,14.0]), Shufeng Jiedu (OR = 2.9, 95%CI [1.5,5.7]), and Lianhua Qingwen (OR = 2.4, 95%CI [1.6,3.6]) were with the best. It can also improve the main clinical symptoms (fever, cough, fatigue, and the regression time of the 3 symptoms), severe conversion rate, and computed tomography improvement rate. Its safety was not significantly compared with conventional treatment. However, in terms of safety of a single TCM, Shufeng Jiedu (OR = -0.86, 95%CI [-1.89,0.09]) and Lianhua Qingwen (OR = -0.49, 95%CI[-0.94,-0.05]) were lower than those of conventional treatment. CONCLUSION: TCM as an adjuvant therapy combined with conventional treatment has good curative effect on mild and common type of COVID-19 patients. Its advantages lie in clinical efficacy and improvement of symptom group, and can prevent patients from transforming to severe disease. In terms of clinical efficacy and safety, Shufeng Jiedu and Lianhua Qingwen have obvious advantages, which are worthy of clinical promotion.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Inflammation-nutritional markers of peripheral blood are easily assessed and can predict survival. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between inflammation-nutritional parameters and survival of anti-programmed death-1 (PD-1) therapy in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. METHODS: We performed a retrospective study from March 2017 to April 2020 in advanced NSCLC patients treated with PD-1 inhibitors. Univariable and multivariable analyses were conducted to evaluate the relationship between peripheral blood parameters (absolute lymphocyte count [ALC], absolute neutrophil count [ANC], absolute monocyte count [AMC], absolute eosinocyte count [AEC], lactic dehydrogenase [LDH], plasma-albumin [ALB], neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio [NLR], and platelet/lymphocyte ratio [PLR]) measured before therapy initiation and prognosis. RESULTS: Among 184 evaluable patients, 134 (72.8%) were male and the median age was 58 years (range 33-87) with 31 (16.8%) ≥70 years. An elevated ANC (≥7500/ul), NLR (≥5), and PLR (≥200) was significantly associated with worse objective response rate (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS), while increased ALC (≥1000/ul) and ALB (≥3.5 g/dl) could significantly improve survival in terms of ORR, PFS, and OS. In multivariate analyses, higher AEC (≥150/ul) and AMC (≥650/ul) could significantly decrease the risk of death (hazard ratio [HR] 0.363, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.141-0.931, p = 0.035; HR 0.370, 95% CI 0.203-0.675, p = 0.001). A higher NLR and PLR, and lower ALB were independent predictors of poor prognosis for OS (HR 1.964, 95% CI 1.027-3.755, p = 0.041; HR 4.255, 95% CI 2.364-7.658, p = 0.000; HR 1.962, 95% CI 1.213-3.174, p = 0.006, respectively). CONCLUSION: Our research illustrated that pretreatment AEC, AMC, ALB, NLR, and PLR are independent predictors for survival in advanced NSCLC patients treated with PD-1 inhibitors.

ABSTRACT

The aim of our study was to investigate the suicide rates among childhood cancer survivors and assess factors associated with higher suicide risk. A review of data from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program from 1975 to 2016 was performed for this study. This program is based on the US population and is supported by the US National Cancer Institute (NCI). Survivors diagnosed with childhood cancer were recorded. There were 40 suicides among 567,233 person-years, giving a suicide rate of 7.1 per 100,000 person-years. Compared with cancer diagnosed between 10 and 14 years old, survivors with cancer diagnosed between 0 and 4 years old had lower suicide risk. Females had a lower risk of suicide than males. Compared with survivors of thyroid cancer, the aHRs were 0.16 for acute lymphocytic leukemia, 0.15 for nodal Hodgkin's lymphoma, 0.14 for brain cancers and 0.09 for kidney cancers. Most suicides occurred after 15 years old. Suicide was a problem for survivors, especially those with thyroid cancer. Beside treating patients holistically, early psychological interventions such as communicating effectively, providing social support and follow-up care related to psychological health are needed.

ABSTRACT

The chemical composition of hazelnut kernels (Corylus avellana L.) and their COX-2 inhibitory, antimicrobial, and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical-scavenging activities were investigated. Six previously undescribed indoleacetic acid glycosides, hazelnutins A-F (1-6), and five known compounds (7-11) were isolated from the hazelnut kernels. The structures of compounds 1-6 were successfully identified by high-resolution-electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry and NMR data, and their absolute configurations were established by electron-capture detector spectroscopy analyses in corporation with quantum chemical calculations. Furthermore, the absolute configurations of compounds 7 and 8 were unambiguously confirmed for the first time. Compounds 8-11 were discovered in hazelnut kernels for the first time. Compounds 1-5 inhibited COX-2 expression with inhibition rates ranging from 36.10 to 64.08%. Compounds 3, 4, and 8 could inhibit the proliferation of Candida albicans. Compound 11 exhibited potent antioxidant activity against ABTS and DPPH with IC50 values of 11.22 and 13.21 µmol/L, respectively. Compounds 8 and 10 exhibited moderate antioxidant activity against ABTS.

ABSTRACT

Cinobufotalin injection is a water-soluble preparation extracted from the skin secretion of Bufo bufo gargarizans Cantor or B. melanotictus Schneider, which has been widely used as an adjuvant treatment in lung cancer patients. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of cinobufotalin (PubChem CID: 259776) injection as an adjunctive treatment for lung cancer. We designed a meta-analysis that performed following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. We aim to include randomized controlled trials by systematically searching the PubMed, EMBASE, CNKI, Wanfang database, VIP, CBM, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Chinese Clinical Trial Registry from inception to Mar 1, 2020, comparing the difference between the use of cinobufotalin injection as an adjunctive treatment and a control group without cinobufotalin injection. The objective response rate (ORR) and quality of life (QOL) will be defined as the primary outcomes, and the disease control rate (DCR) and adverse events will be defined as the secondary outcomes. We included 21 articles with 1735 cases of lung cancer patients. Comparison results show that combining with cinobufotalin injection can improve ORR (OR = 1.77, 95% CI [1.43, 2.21], P < 0.001), with low heterogeneity (P = 0.94, I 2 = 0%); DCR (OR = 2.20, 95% CI [1.70, 2.85], P < 0.001), with low heterogeneity (P = 0.60, I 2 = 0%); KPS score (OR = 3.10, 95% CI [2.23, 4.32], P < 0.001), with low heterogeneity (P = 0.85, I 2 = 0%); and the effect of pain relief (OR = 2.68, 95% CI [1.30, 5.55], P = 0.008), with low heterogeneity (P = 0.72, I 2 = 0%). Low-to-moderate evidence shows that cinobufotalin injection combined with chemotherapy can significantly increase ORR, DCR, QOL, and the effect of pain relief. Meanwhile, cinobufotalin injection did not bring additional adverse events such as hematological toxicity, gastrointestinal toxicity, cardiotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, and nephrotoxicity; however, multicenter, large-sample, high-quality clinical research results are still needed to reveal the therapeutic effect of cinobufotalin injection in small-cell lung cancer (PROSPERO registration number: CRD42020170052).

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To develop a radiomics model based on dynamic contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to predict early and late recurrence in patients with a single HCC lesion ≤ 5 cm in diameter after thermal ablation. PROCEDURES: We enrolled patients who underwent thermal ablation for HCC in our hospital from April 2004 to April 2017. Radiomics based on two branch convolution recurrent network was utilized to analyze preoperative dynamic CEUS image of HCC lesions to establish CEUS model, in comparison to the conventional ultrasound (US), clinical, and combined models. Clinical follow-up of HCC recurrence after ablation were taken as reference standard to evaluate the predicted performance of CEUS model and other models. RESULTS: We finally analyzed 318 patients (training cohort: test cohort = 255:63). The combined model showed better performance for early recurrence than CUES (in training cohort, AUC, 0.89 vs. 0.84, P < 0.001; in test cohort, AUC, 0.84 vs. 0.83, P = 0.272), US (P < 0.001), or clinical model (P < 0.001). For late recurrence prediction, the combined model showed the best performance than the CEUS (C-index, in training cohort, 0.77 vs. 0.76, P = 0.009; in test cohort, 0.77 vs. 0.68, P < 0.001), US (P < 0.001), or clinical model (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The CEUS model based on dynamic CEUS radiomics performed well in predicting early HCC recurrence after ablation. The combined model combining CEUS, US radiomics, and clinical factors could stratify the high risk of late recurrence.

Considering the Haihe River Basin as an example, the DPeRS model was used to analyze the spatial distribution characteristics and pollution sources of the diffuse pollution by remote sensing pixel scale. Combined with the evaluation standard of surface water quality, a potential risk grading method for diffuse pollution was constructed to assess the potential risk of diffuse pollution in Haihe River Basin. The results showed that, in 2016, the diffuse discharge loads of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N), and chemical oxygen demand (COD) were 429.2, 25.7, 288.3, and 1017.0 kg ·km-2, respectively, with the amount of river entry being 2.5×104 ton, 1597.2 ton, 1.7×104 ton, and 6.6×104 ton in Haihe River Basin, respectively. Farmland runoff is the most important source of diffuse pollution of TN, TP and NH4+-N in the Haihe River Basin. For COD index, urban life is the primary type of pollution, followed by livestock. The diffuse pollution is relatively severe in the central and southern areas of Haihe River Basin, and this area is also a high-risk concentrated distribution area of diffuse pollution in the basin. The distribution of high-risk areas of nitrogen-phosphorus diffuse pollution are relatively concentrated, and the chemical oxygen demand is relatively scattered. More than 36% of the Haihe River Basin has a nitrogen-phosphorus diffuse pollution risk, and 2.94% of the area has a chemical oxygen demand diffuse pollution risk.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of moxibustion on oxidative stress injury of nigrostriatal system in rats with Parkinson's disease (PD) based on nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor (Nrf2)/antioxidant response element (ARE) pathway, and to explore its mechanism. METHODS: A total of 48 SD rats were randomized into a blank group, a sham-operation group, a model group and a moxibustion group, 12 rats in each group. Unilateral two-point injection with 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) was adopted in the model group and the moxibustion group to establish the PD model; the operation manipulation in the sham-operation group was the same as the model group and the moxibustion group, and the same volume of 0.9% sodium chloride solutions was given by unilateral two-point injection. Moxibustion was adopted at "Baihui" (GV 20) and "Sishencong" (EX-HN 1) in the moxibustion group for 20 min, once a day, 6 times a week for 6 weeks. No intervention was given in the other 3 groups. Morphology of right mesencephalon substantia nigra was observed by HE staining, the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) in right mesencephalon substantia nigra was detected by immunohistochemistry method, the expression of reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in corpus striatum was detected by colorimetry method, and the expression of Nrf2 and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) proteins was detected by Western blot in the 4 groups. RESULTS: Clear tissue structure and complete dopaminergic neurons of right mesencephalon substantia nigra were observed in the blank group and the sham-operation group; unclear tissue structure, decreased and swelling dopaminergic neurons were observed in the model group; compared with the model group, more neurons were observed and the swelling of cyton was reduced in the moxibustion group. Compared with the sham-operation group, the expression of TH in right mesencephalon substantia nigra was decreased in the model group (P<0.01); compared with the model group, the expression of TH in right mesencephalon substantia nigra was increased in the moxibustion group (P<0.05). Compared with the sham-operation group, the expression of ROS, MDA was increased (P<0.01), the expression of GSH, GSH-Px, Nrf2 and HO-1 was decreased in the model group (P<0.01, P<0.05); compared with the model group, the expression of ROS, MDA was decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01), the expression of GSH, GSH-Px, Nrf2 and HO-1 was increased in the moxibustion group (P<0.05, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Moxibustion can alleviate oxidative stress injury of nigrostriatal system in rats with Parkinson's disease by activating the Nrf2/ARE pathway, and protect the dopamine neurons.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Ginseng, a traditional Chinese medicine, was used to prevent and treat many diseases such as diabetes, inflammation, and cancer. In recent years, there are some reports about the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma with ginseng monomer compounds, but there is no systematic study on the related core targets and mechanism of ginseng in the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma up to now. Therefore, this study systematically and comprehensively studied the molecular mechanism of ginseng in the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma based on network pharmacology and further proved the potential targets by A549 cell experiments for the first time. METHODS: The targets of disease and drug were obtained from Gene database. Subsequently, the compound-target network was constructed, and the core potential targets were screened out by plug-in into Cytoscape. Furthermore, the core targets and mechanism of ginseng in the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma were verified by MTT test, cell scratch test, immunohistochemistry, and qRT-PCR. RESULTS: 1791 disease targets and 144 drug targets were obtained by searching the Gene database. Meanwhile, 15 core targets were screened out: JUN, MAPK8, PTGS2, CASP3, VEGFA, MMP9, AKT1, TNF, FN1, FOS, MMP782, IL-1ß, IL-2, ICAM1, and HMOX1. The results of cell experiments indicate that ginseng could treat lung adenocarcinoma by cell proliferation, migration, and apoptosis. In addition, according to the results of the 15 core targets by qRT-PCR, JUN, IL-1ß, IL-2, ICAM1, HMOX1, MMP9, and MMP2 are upregulated core targets, while PTGS2 and TNF are downregulated core targets. CONCLUSION: This study systematically and comprehensively studied 15 core targets by network pharmacology for the first time. Subsequently, it is verified that 9 core targets for ginseng treatment of lung adenocarcinoma, namely, JUN, IL-1ß, IL-2, ICAM1, HMOX1, MMP9, MMP2, PTGS2, and TNF, are closely related to the proliferation, migration, and apoptosis of lung adenocarcinoma cells. This study has reference value for the clinical application of ginseng in the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma.

ABSTRACT

Intelligent drug delivery systems (DDS), integrating with multi-modal imaging guidance and controlled drug release, have practical significance in enhancing the therapeutic efficiency of tumors. Herein, fluorinated aza-boron-dipyrromethene (NBF) with high near-infrared absorption is synthesized by introducing nonadecafluorodecanoic acid into aza-BODIPY via the amide bond. Through the co-precipitation methods, nanoparticles (NPs) based on NBF are fabricated and the obtained NBF NPs can not only load with DOX with a high loading efficiency (25%, DNBF NPs), but also absorb PFC droplets (1H-perfluoropentane) with bp of 42 °C because of the fluorinated chains inside NBF NPs (PDNBF NPs). Under 808-nm laser irradiation, the hyperthermia effect of NBF could induce the liquid-gas phase transition of PFC droplets, triggering the burst release of DOX and enhancing echo signals for ultrasound imaging as well. With efficient enrichment of PDNBF NPs at tumor site as revealed by in vivo ultrasound imaging and photoacoustic imaging, significant improvement in inhibiting tumor growth is achieved with PDNBF NPs under laser irradiation without noticeable side effects. The work presents a multifunctional organic DDS with great biocompatibility, high drug loading efficiency and light-stimuli-responsive drug release, which provides a new strategy for the manufacture of intelligent composite theranostic nanoplatform.

BACKGROUND: Digestive tumors are malignant tumors of epithelial origin with high rates of morbidity and mortality worldwide. At present, surgery is the main treatment for patients with digestive tumors. In this study, we conducted a survey of patients with digestive cancers to explore the influence of family support on postoperative quality of life, with the aim of providing a basis of reference for further improvement of the quality of life of such patients. METHODS: A total of 82 patients with digestive cancer who underwent surgery in Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine between October, 2018 and April, 2019 were selected to take part. The self-made questionnaire, the European Cancer Research and Treatment Organization's Core Quality of Life Questionnaire for Cancer Patients, and the Family Support Scale were used to investigate the patients, and the collected data were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: The family support scores of the 82 enrolled patients ranged from 5 to 15 points, with an average score of (8.86±2.47) points; 60 cases (73.17%) scored ≥10 points and 12 cases (26.83%) scored <10 points. Patients who were married, aged under 30 years old, or employed as civil servants had higher family support scores than other patients (P<0.05). The scores for physical function, emotional function, and overall health status/quality of life in patients who had a high family support score were higher than those in patients who had a low family support score (P<0.05). According to the logistic regression model, Patients with higher age, getting married, with education level of bachelor degree or above, occupation as farmer and with other digestive tract tumor got higher family support score. (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Good family support can effectively improve quality of postoperative life for patients with digestive cancer. Education, age, occupation and marriage are all independent factors that affect family support.

ABSTRACT

Single denitrification using bacteria has been widely investigated, but few studies have focused on the simultaneous removal of nitrate, phosphorus. and tetracycline. Strain L2, an iron-reducing bacteria, was immobilized using chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol to simultaneously remove nitrate and phosphorus. The effects of carbon/nitrogen ratio (1:1, 1.5:1, and 2:1), initial Fe2+ concentration (0, 15, and 30 mg·L-1), and HRT (2, 4, and 6 h) were assessed in bioreactors and optimum conditions were established. Results showed that the nitrate and phosphorus removal efficiency reached 100.00% (2.697 mg·L-1·h-1) and 81.93% (1.533 mg·L-1·h-1) under the conditions of carbon/nitrogen of 2:1, Fe2+ concentration of 30 mg·L-1 and HRT of 6 h. The precipitation of bioreactor, which identified as FeOOH by XRD, had significant adsorption on tetracycline. The results of high-throughput sequencing indicated that strain L2 played a significant role in denitrification. This bioreactor provided effective method for the treatment of polluted water contaminated by nitrate, phosphorus, and tetracycline.

ABSTRACT

Plants of genus Cichorium are famous due to their therapeutic and medicinal properties. They are used as traditional medicine and edible food. To date, several scholars concentrated on compounds belonging to coumarins, flavonoids, sesquiterpenoids, triterpenoids, steroids, organic acids and other chemical constituents. Pharmacological effects such as photo-protective, hepatoprotective, anti-diabetic and lipid lowering, antioxidant, anti-inflammation, antifungal, antimalarial, increased bone mineral density,  as well as vasorelaxant and antitumour activity were wildly reported. In this study, botanical resources, ethnopharmacological application, chemical constituents and bioactivities, as well as safety and toxicity of clinical applications of genus Cichorium were reviewed, which may provide a reliable basis for further development and utilization of Cichorium genetic resources.
