ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the changes of maximum urethral pressure (MUP) and maximum urethral closure pressure (MUCP) after artificial urethral sphincter (AUS) implantation and their prognostic value. Methods: The clinical data of patients who had undergone AUS implantation in multiple medical centers between March and July 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Data of urethral pressure profilometry, pad usage, related scores and complications related to surgery were collected and compared. The primary endpoint was social continence (defined as 0-1 pad/d) 1 month after activation of the pump. Results: A total of five male patients were included in this study. Two underwent transurethral resection of the prostate for benign prostatic hyperplasia, two underwent radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, and one underwent urethral reunion, urethral stricture dilatation and cystostomy due to trauma from traffic accident. All patients had different degrees of urinary incontinence. The results of preoperative urethral profilometry test showed that the MUP of five patients were 52, 53, 88, 32, and 66 cmH(2)O(1 cmH(2)O=0.098 kPa), respectively, and the MUCP were 17, 52, 62, 27, and 40 cmH(2)O, respectively. AUS implantation was performed. The intraoperative urethral pressure profilometry showed that the MUP were 53, 113, 50, 77, and 89 cmH(2)O in the inactivated state, and the MUCP were 50, 97, 31, 71, and 51 cmH(2)O, respectively. In the activated state, the MUP were 112, 174, 193, 121, and 120 cmH(2)O, and the MUCP were 109, 160, 175, 114, and 92 cmH(2)O, respectively. All patients met the social continence (0-1 pad/d) criterion. No complications were reported during the follow-up. Conclusions: The relationship between the range of intraoperative urethral pressure and the effect of urinary control can be gained by measuring the specific values of MUP and MUCP during AUS implantation and the post-operative effects, which provides as a data basis for standardizing AUS implantation.

ABSTRACT

Fatty acids in the Malania oleifera oil of Yunnan were esterified by sulfuric acid-methanol and analyzed by GC-MS. Seventeen components were separated and seven acids as methylesters were identified and determined. They were hexadecanoic acid (1.50%), 9c-octadecenoic acid (21.54%), 11c-eicosenoic acid (7.04%), 13c-docosenoic acid (18.29%), docosanoic acid (1.33%), 15c-tetracosenoic acid (40.92%), tetracosanoic acid (2.14%). There were 7.24% components unidentified.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation combined with Chinese herbal medicine in treating malignant hematopathy. METHODS: Allo-bone marrow transplantation (Allo-BMT) or alloperipheral blood stem cell transplantation (Allo-PBSCT), with conditioning regimen of TBI + Cy or Bu + Cy, was used to treat 4 cases of chronic granulocytic leukemia (CGL, 3 of chronic phase and 1 of acceleration phase) and one case of acute non-lymphocytic leukemia (ANLL). And auto-BMT or auto-PBSCT, with conditioning regimen of MAC or MAC + VP16, was used to treat 7 cases of hematopathy, including 5 cases of ANLL (3 of CR1 and 2 of CR2) and 2 cases of malignant lymphoma (1 of first occurring and 1 of relapse). Chinese herbal medicine was given orally to all the 12 patients after' transplantation according to TCM Syndrome Differentiation. RESULTS: All patients were successfully engrafted. Within the median follow-up period of 18 (4-70) months, one patient (8.3%) died of transplantation-related death, 3(25.0%) relapsed and 8 (66.7%) survived free of original disease. The transplantation effective rate was 88.8% as counting by ANLL CR1 and CGL chronic phase. CONCLUSION: Auto-BMT or auto-PBSCT in CR1 stage of acute leukemia could reduce the relapse rate, when there was no matched bone marrow donor; allo-BMT or allo-PBSCT in chronic stage could result in long-term disease-free survival of patients; Chinese herbal medicine administration in patients of malignant hematopathy might reduce the complications and plays certain role in promoting recovery of hematopoietic function.

ABSTRACT

Protoplasts, as important media in genetic engineering, had been isolated from some genera of seaweeds in the beginning of this decade. Using a mixed enzyme solution composed of 3% Sea snail enzyme, 3% Cellulase Onozuka R-10, 1% Macerozyme and 0.5% Pectinase, viable protoplasts were isolated from Caloglossa leprieurii (Mont) J. Ag. (Ceramiales, Rhodophyta). The viability of protoplast was determined by its exclusion of Evans Blue stain. The absence of cell walls were observed in the protoplasts, and were determined by Calcofluor White, reduced osmolarity, electron microscopic examination and self-fusion. About half of the protoplasts survived and divided at a high rate when they were cultivated in a thin liquid layer of modified medium No.5 (MES as basic medium, supplemented with MS medium, vitamins and 1ppm IAA, 1.5 ppm KT). Regenerated plantlet appeared after 45 days. Tetrasporangia appeared in the blade of some regenerated plants after 4 months. Due to its properties of Being large, polynucleal and regenerative, protoplasts of C. leprieurii offer a good prospect in the field of cell fusion and genetic operation of seaweeds.
