ABSTRACT

(AU)

The anthroposophic approach based on Rudolf Steiner's seminal contribution makes it possible to renew and differentiate what religious traditions and mythology, as well as traditional medicine, have known for millennia: that honey bees manifest cosmic spiritual processes intimately related to the human constitution. Structuring forces made visible in the hexagonal pattern of the honeycomb as well as in the strict social and behavioral organization of honey bees are of the same nature as those active in the human nerve-senses system, in relation with the forces of crystallization of silica resulting in the hexagonal structure of quartz crystals. These forces provide the beehive with the framework within which it can develop its thermal organization in a finely regulated way such as can otherwise only be achieved by homoeothermic beings. These structuring forces in connection with warmth are particularly related in the human organism to the metamorphosis of the nerve-senses system in the area of metabolism and locomotion, i.e., in the connective tissues, and especially the most structured of these, the ossified skeleton, responsible for the form of the human body. Examining such correspondences can lead to a better understanding of the therapeutic potential of bee products and of the relationships, not only of bee venom with the caloric force of the I, but also of beeswax and honey with the human form, understood at the same time as differentiated by the I-organization in its nerve-senses modality and as condition for the manifestation of the I in warmth. These considerations can help to form, beyond traditional or superficial symbolism, a basis for linking human physiology and forces of morality.(AU)

Objective: to compare the effectiveness of 5 percent propolis tincture and of the conventional pharmacological treatment in patients diagnosed with dental alveolitis. ABSTRACT

A study of therapeutic intervention was carried out in 44 patients with moderate descompensated toxic diffuse goiter, assisted in the Endocrinology Department of Saturnino Lora Torres Provincial Teaching Clinical-Surgical Hospital in Santiago de Cuba from March, 2008 to same month of 2010, who were randomly selected and then divided into 2 groups of identical number of cases: the control group with conventional medication, and the study group that received bee therapy; in order to determine the effectiveness of honey as auxiliary treatment. The information was analyzed and processed by means of the hypothesis tests of Mann Whitney and that of means comparison, with an error of 5 percent, and it was obtained that bee therapy was more effective than the application of the habitual drugs in the rehabilitation of those affected, so that the generalization of its use was suggested to other health services(AU)

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Apitoxin, which is produced by Apis mellifera, has anti-inflammatory effect on a number of biomarkers. Prostaglandin E2 is one of them, being present in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF). Prostaglandin E2 is evidenced in periodontal disease. Objective: This study evaluated the antiinflammatory effect of apitoxin on concentration of prostaglandin E2 FGC in a patient with no periodontal disease (SEP) and other with periodontal disease (CEP). Materials and Methods: We selected both a SEP and CEP patient who were subjected to apitherapy for 28 days. There were 5 samples per patient of FGC, being stored, centrifuged and refrigerated for their preservation. Subsequently, the concentrations of crevicular prostaglandin E2 were measured by simple radial immunodiffusion in petri dishes with antibody concentration of prostaglandin E2 of 1:1000. Sealed at 4 掳C, after 72 hours to allow diffusion, they were stained with Coomassie Brilliant Blue, determining the concentration of each plate. Results: SEP patient immediately before apitherapy presented a concentration of 0.9636 +/- 0.0055 (g / mL), ending with a concentration of 0.9196 +/- 0.0733 (g / mL) upon completion of 28 days of treatment. CEP patient before receiving apitherapy showed a concentration of 1.1866 +/- 0.0867 (g/mL), ending with a concentration of 0.9858 +/- 0.0074 (g/mL) upon completion of 28 days of treatment. Discussion: The findings of this study show a decrease in the concentration of PGE2 of FGC both for the CEP and SEP patient subjected to apitherapy for 28 days, being this decrease 3.7 times higher in the CEP patient.
