ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study investigated the color stability of different commercially available silicone materials for facial prostheses upon exposure to everyday beverages. It was hypothesized that the beverages would not alter the color of the silicone under conditions simulating daily exposure. METHODS: Sixty specimens were fabricated using two materials - VST-50 and Silfy - and exposed to commercially available cold mineral water, tea, or coffee. Specimen color was evaluated on days 1 and 15. The color was measured with a spectrophotometer based on CIELab system and color differences were calculated as ΔE. Statistical analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test. RESULTS: The mean ΔE values after 15 days of exposure to mineral water, cold green tea, and coffee were 1.016, 3.480, and 3.636 for VST-50 and 0.440, 0.798, and 1.425 for Silfy, respectively. Both materials showed significant differences in color, and VST-50 showed a greater color change than Silfy, especially for coffee. CONCLUSION: Pigmented silicone elastomers have low color stability, leading to an overall color change in silicone prostheses when exposed to pigmented beverages. Color changes in such prostheses can be mitigated by selecting materials with better color stability to extend their longevity.

ABSTRACT

Balneotherapy includes practices and methods using medically and legally recognized mineral-medicinal waters, muds and natural gases from natural springs for therapeutic purposes. One of the most widely used method in balneotherapy is bathing with thermal mineral water. In the course of the years, scientific community has produced an increasing number of evidences that this practice is an effective method for treating signs and symptoms of several pathologies such as rheumatic, cardiovascular and dermatological diseases. This systematic review is aimed at evaluating the effect of balneotherapy with thermal water baths as a treatment to manage signs and symptoms of patients affected by all types of dermatological diseases. The systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA Statement, and its protocol was registered on PROSPERO platform (CRD42022295913). The research was performed on the databases Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science and Cochrane. We included clinical trials evaluating the effects of balneotherapy using thermal mineral water baths for managing dermatological diseases in humans, published in English and Italian language. Eight studies were included, seven of them enrolled adults affected by psoriasis and one studied atopic dermatitis patients. The common result of all the articles included was a clear improvement of signs and symptoms of psoriasis and eczematous diseases after use of thermal mineral water baths. These effects seem to be strictly related to physical and chemical properties of thermal water used for balneotherapy. However, studies in this field are still limited to support robust evidence of the effectiveness of balneotherapy using thermal mineral water baths and often their quality is low. Thus, new clinical studies need to be carried out, using more correct methods for conducting the studies and for processing statistical data.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Dietary approaches are recommended for the management of chronic constipation. Until now, there has been no systematic review and meta-analysis on foods, drinks and diets in constipation. AIMS: To investigate the effect of foods, drinks and diets on response to treatment, stool output, gut transit time, symptoms, quality of life, adverse events and compliance in adults with chronic constipation via a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: Studies were identified using electronic databases (12th July 2023). Intervention trials (randomised controlled trials [RCTs], non-randomised, uncontrolled) were included. Risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane 2.0 (RCTs) or JBI Critical Appraisal (uncontrolled trials). Data from RCTs only were synthesised using risk ratios (RRs), mean differences (MDs), standardised mean differences (95% CI) using random-effects. RESULTS: We included 23 studies (17 RCTs, 6 uncontrolled; 1714 participants): kiwifruit (n = 7), high-mineral water (n = 4), prunes (n = 2), rye bread (n = 2), mango, fig, cereal, oat bran, yoghurt, water supplementation, prune juice, high-fibre diet, no-fibre diet (n = 1). Fruits resulted in higher stool frequency than psyllium (MD: +0.36 bowel movements [BM]/week, [0.25-0.48], n = 232), kiwifruits in particular (MD: +0.36 BM/week, [0.24-0.48], n = 192); there was no difference for prunes compared with psyllium. Rye bread resulted in higher stool frequency than white bread (MD: +0.43 BM/week, [0.03-0.83], n = 48). High-mineral water resulted in higher response to treatment than low-mineral water (RR: 1.47, [1.20-1.81], n = 539). CONCLUSIONS: Fruits and rye bread may improve certain constipation-related outcomes. There is a scarcity of evidence on foods, drinks and diets in constipation and further RCTs are needed.

ABSTRACT

Gastric ulcers are often exacerbated by factors such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and inflammation, and they have a substantial impact on a significant portion of the population. Notably, indomethacin is recognized as a prominent contributor to ulcers. This study investigated this potential method, with normalization to the anti-inflammatory and antiulcer properties of deep-sea water (DSW)-derived mineral water, using an indomethacin-induced gastric ulcer model in rats. The study involved four groups (n = 6 rats/group): normal control group (CON), indomethacin-only group (IND), indomethacin with trace mineral water group (TM), and indomethacin with high magnesium low sodium water group (HMLS). For three weeks, the CON and IND groups consumed tap water, while the TM and HMLS groups had access to mineral water. Gastric ulcers were induced on the final day using indomethacin, for all groups except the CON group. The results demonstrated that HMLS intake significantly improved gastric mucosal damage, preserved mucin stability, and increased gastric thickness, indicating its potential to prevent and alleviate indomethacin-induced gastric ulcers. Furthermore, HMLS consumption led to the upregulation of key genes associated with inflammation and a reduction in inflammatory cytokines. These findings suggest that DSW-derived mineral water, and particularly its high Mg2+ content, may offer promising health benefits including anti-inflammatory and anti-ulcer properties.

ABSTRACT

The completion of high-intensity exercise results in robust perturbations to physiologic homeostasis, challenging the body's natural buffering systems to mitigate the accumulation of metabolic by-products. Supplementation with bicarbonate has previously been used to offset metabolic acidosis, leading to improvements in anaerobic exercise performance. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the presence of ergogenic properties in naturally occurring low-dose bicarbonated water and their effects on anaerobic cycling performance and blood gas kinetics in recreationally active men and women. METHODS: Thirty-nine healthy, recreationally active men and women (28.1 ± 8.0 years, 169.8 ± 11.7 cm, 68.9 ± 10.8 kg, 20.1 ± 7.9% fat, V˙O2peak: 42.8 ± 7.6 mL/kg/min) completed two separate testing sessions consisting of 15 cycling sprints (10 s sprint, 20 s active rest) against 7.5% of their body mass. Using a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group study design, study participants consumed a 10 mL/kg dose of either spring water (SW) or bicarbonated mineral water (BMW) (delivering ~3 g/day of bicarbonate) for 7 days. Venous blood was collected before, immediately after, and 5 and 10 min after the sprint protocol and was analyzed for lactate and a series of blood gas components. After the completion of 15 cycling sprints, averages of peak and mean power for bouts 1-5, 6-10, and 11-15, along with total work for the entire cycling protocol, were calculated. All performance and blood gas parameters were analyzed using a mixed-factorial ANOVA. RESULTS: pH was found to be significantly higher in the BMW group immediately after (7.17 ± 0.09 vs. 7.20 ± 0.11; p = 0.05) and 10 min post exercise (7.21 ± 0.11 vs. 7.24 ± 0.09; p = 0.04). A similar pattern of change was observed 5 min post exercise wherein pH levels in the SW group were lower than those observed in the BMW group; however, this difference did not achieve statistical significance (p = 0.09). A statistical trend (p = 0.06) was observed wherein lactate in the BMW group tended to be lower than in the SW group 5 min post exercise. No significant main effect for time (p > 0.05) or group × time interactions (p > 0.05) for the total work, average values of peak power, or average values of mean power were observed, indicating performance was unchanged. CONCLUSION: One week of consuming water with increased bicarbonate (10 mL/kg; ~3 g/day bicarbonate) showed no effect on anaerobic cycling performance. BMW decreased blood lactate concentrations 5 min after exercise and increased blood pH immediately and 10 min after exercise.

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to estimate the effectiveness of marine-derived resources for treating specific diseases, as well as identify the most effective methods for applying such resources in therapeutic applications. Bibliographic databases (PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane) were searched from their inception until May 2023 using Medical Subject Headings terms and text keywords related to seawater, mineral water, or ocean therapy. Fifteen eligible studies were included, involving 1325 participants aged 42.7-63.0 years. In the subgroup analysis based on treatment type, the mean difference was -1.581 (95% CI: -1.889, -1.274) for seawater with sun exposure and -1.210 (95% CI: -1.417, -1.002) for seawater with sun exposure, mud pack application, and sulfur pool therapy. The pooled standardized mean difference was calculated for different outcomes; the results were -1.110 (95% CI: -3.028, 0.806) for osteoarthritis severity, -0.795 (95% CI: -0.982, -0.607) for arthritis pain, -1.623 (95% CI: -2.036, -1.209) for fibromyalgia pain, and -1.498 (95% CI: -1.888, -1.108) for quality of life. Marine therapy is, therefore, promising for treating chronic skin issues, easing musculoskeletal discomfort, and enhancing the quality of life among patients with musculoskeletal pain.

ABSTRACT

There are rich reserves of underground mineral waters in the south of Tyumen region, which are generally deep located, in the so-called difficult exchange water zone (on average at a depth of 1311.29±34.53 m). Currently, there is a lack of assessment of prognostic resources of underground mineral waters in the south of Tyumen region. The article provides an assessment of underground mineral (therapeutic) waters' reserves (2011-2019 yrs.) in the considered territory. It was shown that the number of deposits, their sites and underground mineral waters' well bores is 76, of which less than half are in operation, as at date of 01.07.2021. Moreover, the number of deposits is remained almost constant since 2011 yr. Meanwhile, underground mineral (therapeutic) waters' reserves are gradually decreasing. Thus, there is a necessity to intensify not only the stocktaking and identification of mineral waters' well bores, but also to develop the new medical technologies to use geothermal waters in rehabilitation and prevention. Monitoring for underground waters' condition should be continued with the use of modern research tools and techniques. The above mentioned will give a new impetus to the development of health resort sphere in the tourism industry, in addition to increasing the therapeutic effects of mineral waters.

ABSTRACT

This systematic review is aimed to evaluate the effects of balneotherapy with thermal mineral water for managing the symptoms and signs of osteoarthritis located at any anatomical site. The systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA Statement. The following databases were consulted: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, DOAJ and PEDro. We included clinical trials evaluating the effects of balneotherapy as a treatment for patients with osteoarthritis, published in English and Italian language, led on human subjects. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO. Overall, 17 studies have been included in the review. All of these studies were performed on adults or elderly patients suffering from osteoarthritis localized to knees, hips, hands or lumbar spine. The treatment assessed was always the balneotherapy with thermal mineral water. The outcomes evaluated were pain, palpation/pressure sensibility, articular tenderness, functional ability, quality of life, mobility, deambulation, ability to climb stairs, medical objective and patients' subjective evaluation, superoxide dismutase enzyme activity, serum levels of interleukin-2 receptors. The results of all the included studies agree and demonstrated an improvement of all the symptoms and signs investigated. In particular, pain and quality of life were the main symptoms evaluated and both improved after the treatment with thermal water in all the studies included in the review. These effects can be attributed to physical and chemical-physical properties of thermal mineral water used. However, the quality of many studies resulted not so high due and, consequently, it is necessary to perform new clinical trial in this field using more correct methods for conducting the study and for processing statistical data.

ABSTRACT

Barium is present within the clay-derived therapeutic mud packs deposed on the patient's skin for treating some rheumatologic conditions. We studied in twenty-four young healthy volunteers the diffusion of Ba from mud wrapped in micro-perforated polyethylene bags and soaked in mineral water. No significant systematic increase in plasma or urine Ba levels was evidenced when comparing pre- and post-treatment samples using inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry. These levels were markedly inferior to the recommended thresholds in nearly all the participants. Noticeably variability in blood and especially urine Ba concentrations was large and mainly explained by environmental exposure (alimentation). Interestingly, we evidenced an intense Ba accumulation within the therapeutic mud at the end of the regimen. Because we chose a clay with one of the highest Ba content available in France for medical therapy and participants with an optimal transcutaneous diffusion capacity (young individuals with low-fat mass), we conclude unambiguously that there is no risk of Ba overexposure in patients receiving pelotherapy according to the procedure used in French medical spas.

BACKGROUND: Angelica gigas Nakai is used as an herbal pharmaceutical material in Korea. AIMS: To investigate the anti-wrinkle effects of A. gigas Nakai root extracts (ARE) using mineral-rich water in in vitro and clinical trials. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The cell viability of ARE was evaluated using a water-soluble tetrazolium salt assay. After evaluating ARE's cytotoxicity, we used an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit to assess the effects of ARE on type I collagen in human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs). During a double-blinded in vivo clinical study, participants were randomly assigned to use the sample and placebo formulations for the left and right sides of their face over an 8-week period. We evaluated the anti-wrinkle properties of the formulations using PRIMOS Lite and a global photodamage score. RESULTS: A. gigas Nakai root extracts cytotoxicity was evaluated in HDFs. We demonstrate that ARE increased type I collagen production by 40% at 50 µg/ml as compared with the control. The use of an ARE lotion significantly reduced the presence of crow's feet wrinkles in comparison with the use of the placebo after 8 weeks. Additionally, use of the ARE lotion led to decreased photodamage scores, indicating anti-wrinkle effects. CONCLUSION: The use of ARE with mineral-rich water has anti-wrinkle effects in in vitro and clinical trials.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The phenomenon of therapeutic and prophylactic effect of natural mineral waters (MW) used to restore tissue tolerance to glucose and normalize basal insulin secretion in metabolic syndrome is well known. At the same time, the use of selenium-enriched MW is promising due to its multitarget action including participation in the regulation of the protein-synthesizing function of cells. AIM: To study the effect of internal course intake of selenium-modified mineral waters of different composition on bone mineral density after long-term diet-induced metabolic disorders in the experiment. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study was carried out on outbred male white rats that were distributed into 3 control groups (CG) and 4 main groups (MG). In CG1 14 animals received laboratory food and drinking water; in CG2 14 animals were modeled for diet-induced metabolic disorders, and they were withdrawn from the experiment the day after the cancellation of the hypercaloric diet (180 days); after the cancellation of the hypercaloric diet 180 days later 14 animals with diet-induced metabolic disorders in CG3 had a standard diet (laboratory food and drinking water) for 30 days. In the experimental groups (EG), the animals similarly to CG3 were modeled diet-induced metabolic disorders, after the cancellation of the diet they had a standard diet and watering with MW. In MG1 18 animals were given MW1 (Essentuki-4); in MG2 19 animals had a course of MW1Se (Essentuki-4 enriched with selenium); in MG3 14 animals had a course of MW2 (Slavyanovskaya); in MG4 18 animals had a course of MB2Se (Slavyanovskaya enriched with selenium). The weight (body weight) of the animals was monitored monthly. Biochemical studies, densitometry and computed microtomography were used to determine the effectiveness of MW. RESULTS: The characteristics of spongy bone tissue of femoral metaphysis of the rats of the control groups revealed disorders of varying degrees, but, despite this, the bone tissue structure of the examined vertebral bodies in animals without a hyper caloric diet (CG1) was preserved. The analysis of the study results demonstrated a significant effectiveness of selenium-enriched MW in regulating metabolic processes (p<0.05-p<0.01), bone mineral density (p<0.05), reduced bone resorption (p<0.05), that is, the characteristics of spongy bone tissue of femoral metaphysis and vertebral bodies of animals showed a clear tendency to restore bone structure. CONCLUSION: The results of this study make it possible to predict an increase in the effectiveness of medical rehabilitation of patients with somatic diseases when selenium-enriched MW is included in the programmes.

ABSTRACT

The feasibility of using therapeutic physical factors in post-COVID syndrome is due to their sanogenetic effects that ensure the restoration of impaired bodily functions, which serves as the basis for their use at various stages of medical rehabilitation of this category of patients. OBJECTIVE: To develop a new medical technology for the 3rd outpatient stage of medical rehabilitation of the patients with post-COVID syndrome using natural therapeutic factors of Nalchik resort. MATERIAL AND METHODS: There has been carried out a controlled study in compliance with the principles of randomization to develop an outpatient medical rehabilitation program including 168 patients with post-COVID syndrome. All the patients were divided into four groups: the control group (n=40) was prescribed pharmacotherapy and physical therapy in the hall in accordance with federal clinical recommendations; comparison group 1 (n=43) had drinking mineral water in addition; comparison group 2 (n=43) received physical therapy on the route of Nalchik resort terrainkur in addition to the treatment in comparison group 1; the main group (n=42) included a group psychotherapy on the Terrainkur route in addition to the treatment in comparison group 2. RESULTS: The results of the comparative analysis showed the feasibility of the developed outpatient medical rehabilitation program for the patients suffering from post-COVID syndrome: the overall effectiveness of rehabilitation measures increased compared to other follow-up groups by 10-15% due to the improvement of external breathing function (p<0.05), cognitive status (p<0.01), increased exercise tolerance (p<0.01), physical recovery (p<0.01) and mental health (p<0.01). CONCLUSION: The summation and integration of sanogenetic effects of physical factors, psychocorrective techniques, and pharmacotherapy provide a significant improvement in the physical and mental status of the patients with post-COVID syndrome.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of the preventive course of drinking mineral water enriched with selenium on the processes of resistance to the damaging action of reversible occlusion of the anterior mesenteric artery based on the comparison of intestinal morphological changes in the experiment. MATERIAL AND METHODS: There has been modeled ischemic reperfusion injury of the intestinal wall according to H. Ikeda and co-authors using reversible occlusion of the anterior mesenteric artery with 33 outbred male rats. The rats were divided into four groups by block randomization: the 1st group - intact animals (n=7) - without an exposure; the control group - sham operated animals (n=6); the group of comparison (n=7) - with a model-operation; the experimental group (n=11) - animals with a model operation that had courses of intragastric watering of bottled sulfate-chloride-hydrocarbonate-sodium low-mineralized (2.2 g/l) drinking mineral water «Psyzh¼ enriched with selenium. Biopsies of the small intestine were taken for histological examination. RESULTS: Histological examination of the small intestine of experimental animals determines various degrees of severity of damage: on average, the animals of the experimental group on the scale of C.J. Chiu (1970) had the lowest degree of severity of pathological changes, the animals of the group of comparison - 1.4 times higher (p=0.02). That is, the effect of a preventive course of mineral water «Psyzh¼ enriched with selenium was manifested in the formation of resistance to the damaging effect of reversible occlusion of the anterior mesenteric artery; in the presence of ischemic reperfusion damage to the intestinal wall, comparable in severity to changes with the animals without prevention, the most significant positive effect was realized in the containment of reactive changes. CONCLUSION: The effect of the preventive course of drinking mineral water «Psyzh¼ enriched with selenium manifested itself in the formation of resistance to the damaging effect of reversible occlusion of the anterior mesenteric artery, which is the basis for introducing this technique into clinical practice in order to prevent the development of reperfusion injuries of the intestine.

INTRODUCTION: The burden of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing worldwide. Heat therapy has been found effective in improving glycaemic control. However, to date, there is a lack of randomised controlled studies investigating the efficacy of heat therapy in T2DM. Therefore, we aim to investigate whether heat therapy with natural thermal mineral water can improve glycaemic control in patients with T2DM. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The HEAT therapy in patiEnts with type 2 Diabetes mellitus (HEATED) Study is a single-centre, two-arm randomised controlled trial being conducted at Harkány Thermal Rehabilitation Centre in Hungary. Patients with T2DM will be randomly assigned to group A (bath sessions in 38°C natural thermal mineral water) and group B (baths in thermoneutral water (30°C-32°C)). Both groups will complete a maximum of 5 weekly visits, averaging 50-60 visits over the 12-week study. Each session will last 30 min, with a physical check-up before the bath. At baseline, patients' T2DM status will be investigated thoroughly. Possible microvascular and macrovascular complications of T2DM will be assessed with physical and laboratory examinations. The short form-36 questionnaire will assess the quality of life. Patients will also be evaluated at weeks 4, 8 and 12. The primary endpoint will be the change of glycated haemoglobin from baseline to week 12. An estimated 65 patients will be enrolled per group, with a sample size re-estimation at the enrolment of 50% of the calculated sample size. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The study has been approved by the Scientific and Research Ethics Committee of the Hungarian Medical Research Council (818-2/2022/EÜIG). Written informed consent is required from all participants. We will disseminate our results to the medical community and will publish our results in peer-reviewed journals. ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To examine the effects of drinking bicarbonate-rich mineral water in patients with calcium oxalate stones. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was an open label prospective randomized controlled study comparing the effects of a bicarbonate-rich mineral water versus plain water on urine biochemistry in patients with calcium oxalate stones. The mineral water group were instructed to consume 1.25 L of mineral water per day at meal times, and supplemented by plain water. Their total intake was up to 3 L/day. Control group consumed only plain water up to 3 L/day. 24 h urine analyses were performed at baseline, 1, 4, 8 and 12 weeks after starting protocol. RESULTS: 58 patients were recruited for the study. 51 patients were included in the final analysis. Baseline data were comparable between the two groups. Over the course of 12 weeks, compared to patients drinking plain water, those drinking mineral water had higher overall urinary volume (difference = 644.0 ml/24 h, 95% CI = (206.7, 1081.3)), higher overall urinary magnesium (difference = 1.894 mmol/24 h, 95% CI = (1.006, 2.782)), and pH (difference = 0.477, 95% CI = (0.149, 0.804)). However, there was no difference in urinary oxalate and Tiselius index. Mineral water group had net increase of urinary citrate (at each study point compared to baseline) which was sustained until week 12, whereas plain water group showed no significant change. CONCLUSIONS: Drinking bicarbonate-rich mineral water in calcium oxalate stone formers increased stone inhibitors such as magnesium, citrate and moderate degree of urinary alkalinization compared to patients drinking plain water, but it did not alter Tiselius index or urinary oxalate after 12 weeks.

ABSTRACT

The combination of traditional basic pharmacotherapy for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and physiotherapeutic methods can reduce the activity of the disease and accelerate the onset of remission, and therefore the development of new non-drug methods for the treatment of RA is relevant. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Study of the effect of natural mineral water « Tib-1¼ on the lipid peroxidation system in an experiment with a model adjuvant-induced RA in rats. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The object of the study were Wistar rats, divided into three groups: negative control (solvents), positive control (model of adjuvant-induced RA by subcutaneous injection of complete Freund's adjuvant) and experimental (correction of RA with mineral water « Tib-1¼, diluted in a ratio of 1:3 during the first 2 weeks from the moment the model was formed in the ad libitum mode). On the 3rd and 7th weeks in the blood of the animals were determined: the total number of leukocytes, the content of hydroperoxides according to Gavrilov, the level of malondialdehyde (MDA), catalase activity. Pathological changes in the hip and knee joints were recorded using radiography. RESULTS: The inflammatory process in the positive control group by the 3rd week was characterized by an increase in the number of leukocytes by 66% (p<0.01) and was accompanied by an increase in MDA by 60% (p<0.001). By the 7th week, despite a relative increase in catalase activity (16%), the MDA level continued to be elevated compared to the negative control by 67% (p<0.001). Against the background of exposure to mineral water, inflammation decreased (the number of leukocytes in the "model/experiment" groups turned out to be reduced by 41%; p<0.01) and an increase in compensatory-adaptive reactions in the form of catalase activation was noted (by 8%; p<0.01), which was accompanied by a persistent (weeks 3 and 7) decrease in MDA output (by 20%; p<0.01). Using the method of radiation diagnostics, positive changes in the articular apparatus of experimental animals were revealed, consisting in the relief of signs of subchondral sclerosis of the bone heads, which were noted for animals of the model group. CONCLUSION: The use of natural mineral water «Tib-1¼ helps to reduce the acute inflammatory response during the formation of adjuvant-induced RA in Wistar rats, initiates the normalization of the balance of pro- and antioxidant processes in the body, and minimizes the intensity of degenerative-inflammatory joint lesions.

ABSTRACT

The need to expand the resort and recreational potential in the Siberian Federal District is due to the growing need for sanatorium treatment and rehabilitation of the population. Balneological studies conducted in different regions of Siberia make it possible to position these territories as promising for resort and recreational activities. OBJECTIVE: Comprehensive integral assessment of the resort and recreational potential of the treatment areas of the Republic of Tyva. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Taking into account the requirements of the guidelines "Bioclimatic passport of the medical and recreational areas" No. 96/226, approved by the Ministry of Health of Russia on February 7, 1997, an integral medical and climatic assessment of the territories of the medical and recreational areas of the Republic of Tyva was carried out. The assessment of the quality of water resources was carried out in accordance with the criteria of the methodological recommendations "Control of the quality and safety of mineral waters by chemical and microbiological indicators" No. 96/225, approved by the Ministry of Health of Russia on 07.04.1997. The typification of water resources is given in accordance with GOST R 54316-2011 "Natural mineral drinking waters". RESULTS: The territory of the Republic of Tyva has the richest reserves of unique therapeutic hydro-mineral resources, and the existing features of landscape and climatic conditions determine the prospects for their widespread use. The surveyed areas are located on mid-mountain and low-mountain landscapes with favorable bioclimatic conditions for the organization of climate treatment and recreation, especially in the warm season. The prospects for the development of climate-balneological and climate-mud resorts in Tuva are shown, especially in terms of medical and health tourism. CONCLUSION: A detailed database has been developed on the components of the resort and recreational potential (bioclimate, mineral waters, therapeutic mud) of the treatment areas of Tuva. The data obtained formed the basis of proposals for updating the register of resorts and health-improving areas of the Siberian Federal District, which is formed on the basis of the results of many years of research.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of native and selenium-modified mineral waters on metabolic syndrome models. Combined metabolic syndrome (combMS) was simulated in 70 white rats of male gender under standard vivarium conditions, using high-calorie food and single administration of streptozotocin. During the random sampling study the following groups of animals were formed: in the control group 1 (n=6) the rats had standard forage during the experiment; in the control group 2 (n=10) there were rats with combMS model without treatment; in the main groups, starting at the 61st day of combMS, the rats received: the 1st group (n=11) - Essentuki mineral water №4; the 2nd (n=16) - the same water with selenium; in the 3rd (n=11) - Slavyanovskaya mineral water; in the 4th (n=16) - Slavyanovskaya with selenium. Registration of the effects was determined by carbohydrate, protein and lipid metabolism. Metabolic syndrome was monitored by recording animal weight gain and the level of glycemia by the express method at the beginning and the end of the treatment course. As a result, in main groups glucose increased 1.5-2 times, urea and lactate - 1.5 times, triglycerides - 30-40% compared, to the data in the control group 1, against the background of reduced content of contrinsular hormones. All the animals with combMS (control 2 and all the main groups) increased α-amylase activity. The most significant corrective parameters of the metabolic syndrome were established: in the main group 1 - a decrease in hyperglycemia, in the 3rd main group - urea, and in the main groups 2 and 4 the lipid spectrum recovered and the level of lactate decreased. Modification of different mineral waters by selenium provides leveling of differences between them in therapeutic effectiveness.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of the course-based comprehensive rehabilitation using the therapeutic physical factors of the Belokurikha resort, including hydrokinesiotherapy in a pool with mineral water on the circadian rhythms of arterial pressure and its autonomous regulation in patients with arterial hypertension (AH) associated with chronic psychoemotional stress (CPES). MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study involved 83 patients with stage I-II grade 1-2 of AH, whose professional activities were associated with CPES. Each participant had 24-hours Holter blood pressure monitored, and cardiointervalography (CIG) was performed before and after the medical rehabilitation course. The rehabilitation complex of the main group (II) included medication therapy for AH, diet, morning hygienic gymnastics, manual massage, total magnet therapy, and hydrokinesiotherapy in a pool with mineral water. Patients in the comparison group (I) were exposed to similar therapeutic physical factors with identical parameters of the procedures, except hydrokinesiotherapy, which was replaced by full baths with mineral water. RESULTS: Medical rehabilitation using the therapeutic physical factors of the Belokurikha resort with hydrokinesiotherapy in a pool promotes a decrease in the activity of a sympathetic nervous system and increase of vagal effects contribute to the regulation of vital functions of the AH patients, associated with CPES, thus minimizing the frequency of abnormal daily profiles night-peaker and over-dipper to 12.5% and 1.78% of cases, respectively, and increasing the percentage of subjects with its normal type (dipper) to 57.1% (p=0.039). CONCLUSION: The study results show the benefits of hydrokinesiotherapy in a pool with mineral water as a part of the course-based comprehensive rehabilitation in patients with hypertension and chronic psychoemotional stress in terms of normalizing circadian rhythms of arterial pressure and optimizing the activity of higher autonomous centers, which largely determine the cardiovascular system performance in this setting.

ABSTRACT

The article dwells upon the history of the discovery of the Tumnin mineral spring, the establishment and development of the Far Eastern health resort «Goryachy Klyuch,¼ located in the basin of Chope creek, a tributary of the largest river in the eastern macroslope of Sikhote Alin, Tumnin river, located 25 km from the Strait of Tartary. A historical sketch since the first mentioning of the Tumnin mineral spring from 1903 to the present day, as well as the results of hydrogeological expeditions to determine the chemical composition and α-activity of Tumnin mineral water at different periods, are presented. A contribution of a geological expedition that established a large deep-lying tectonic structure permeable to upwelling thermal water flows is described. The role of the staff of the physiotherapy and balneology department of the Khabarovsk Medical Institute in the study of the mechanism of action and clinical effectiveness of the Tumnin mineral water is addressed. A balneological characteristic of nitric and siliceous thermal water, the basic therapeutic factor of «Goryachy Klyuch¼ health resort, which has always been popular among the Far East residents, but gained special importance and appreciation of patients during the pandemic of new coronavirus infection, is given. Currently, in the health resort «Goryachy Klyuch¼, patients with skin diseases, musculoskeletal, gynecologic, neurologic diseases, digestive tract disorders, metabolic conditions, upper airways, cardiovascular disorders, occupational diseases are treated using balneotherapy and other methods of non-drug therapy. At present, the health resort «Goryachy Klyuch¼ is going through a difficult but interesting period of improvement of recreation opportunities for the Far East residents.
