Background: The COVID-19 pandemic placed a spotlight on health care workers as the world struggled with mental health crises. As the number of COVID-19 cases rose exponentially, this also paralleled health care workers' perceived stress burden and increased risk for mental health trauma. This research project assessed the impact of a mobile mindful meditation application on health care workers' perceived stress levels during a pandemic. Methodology: Through quasi-experimental design, researchers assessed the effect of using a mobile mindful meditation (Synctuition) app on health care workers' stress levels. Participants listened for 20 to 30 minutes daily for 30 days. Participants perceived stress levels were measured with Cohen's Perceived Stress Scale. Results: Of the 100 participants, there was a statistically significant decrease in perceived stress reduction between the groups across various categories. The pretest perceived stress scores were reduced from moderate to low stress postintervention after using the mindful meditation application. Implications for Practice: Reducing stress in health care workers can potentially increase the quality of life for health care workers. and lowering stress levels can potentially improve the quality of care provided.

It has been shown that innate immune responses can adopt adaptive properties such as memory. Whether T cells utilize innate immune signaling pathways to diversify their repertoire of effector functions is unknown. Gasdermin E (GSDME) is a membrane pore-forming molecule that has been shown to execute pyroptotic cell death and thus to serve as a potential cancer checkpoint. In the present study, we show that human T cells express GSDME and, surprisingly, that this expression is associated with durable viability and repurposed for the release of the alarmin interleukin (IL)-1α. This property was restricted to a subset of human helper type 17 T cells with specificity for Candida albicans and regulated by a T cell-intrinsic NLRP3 inflammasome, and its engagement of a proteolytic cascade of successive caspase-8, caspase-3 and GSDME cleavage after T cell receptor stimulation and calcium-licensed calpain maturation of the pro-IL-1α form. Our results indicate that GSDME pore formation in T cells is a mechanism of unconventional cytokine release. This finding diversifies our understanding of the functional repertoire and mechanistic equipment of T cells and has implications for antifungal immunity.

BACKGROUND: Postmenopausal women have a high incidence of atherosclerosis. Phytosterols have been shown to have cholesterol-lowering properties. Alisa B 23-acetate (AB23A) is a biologically active plant sterol isolated from Chinese herbal medicine Alisma. However, the atherosclerosis effect of AB23A after menopause and its possible mechanism have not been reported yet. PURPOSE: To explore whether AB23A can prevent atherosclerosis by regulating farnesoid X receptor and subsequently increasing fecal bile acid and cholesterol excretion to reduce plasma cholesterol levels. METHODS: Aortic samples from premenopausal and postmenopausal women with ascending aortic arteriosclerosis were analyzed, and bilateral ovariectomized (OVX) female LDLR-/- mice and free fatty acid (FFA)-treated L02 cells were used to analyze the effect of AB23A supplementation therapy. RESULTS: AB23A increased fecal cholesterol and bile acids (BAs) excretion dependent on activation of hepatic farnesoid X receptor (FXR) in ovariectomized mice. AB23A inhibited hepatic cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase (CYP7A1) and sterol 12α-hydroxylase (CYP8B1) via inducing small heterodimer partner (SHP) expression. On the other hand, AB23A increased the level of hepatic chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA), and activated the hepatic BSEP signaling. The activation of hepatic FXR-BSEP signaling by AB23A in ovariectomized mice was accompanied by the reduction of liver cholesterol, hepatic lipolysis, and bile acids efflux, and reduced the damage of atherosclerosis. In vitro, AB23A fixed abnormal lipid metabolism in L02 cells and increased the expression of FXR, BSEP and SHP. Moreover, the inhibition and silencing of FXR canceled the regulation of BSEP by AB23A in L02 cells. CONCLUSION: Our results shed light into the mechanisms behind the cholesterol-lowering of AB23A, and increasing FXR-BSEP signaling by AB23A may be a potential postmenopausal atherosclerosis therapy.

Alpinia hainanensis is an important food spice and ethnic medicine in Southwest China. In this study, we found that the EtOAc-soluble fraction (AHE) of the A. hainanensis rhizome ethanol extract could ameliorate dextran sulfate sodium-induced ulcerative colitis (UC). To explore active constituents, five pairs of previously unreported enantiomers (1-5), together with nine known ones (6-14), were obtained. Structural characterization was achieved by comprehensive spectroscopic methods. Compounds 1 and 2 were new curcumin-butyrovanillone hybrids featuring a rare structural fragment of 2,3-dihyrofuran. The anti-inflammatory activities of isolates were evaluated, and the results indicated that compounds (-)-1, (-)-3, 6, 9, 11, and 12 significantly inhibited the nuclear factor-κB signaling pathway. These findings indicate the major active fraction of the A. hainanensis rhizome ethanol extract enriched with diarylheptanoids, flavonoids, phenolics, and their hybrid mixtures, which could be developed as a nutritional and dietary supplement for treating UC.

Background: Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent gynecological inflammatory condition that may lead to infertility and recurrent pelvic pain. The purpose of this research was to determine the efficacy and safety of Salvia miltiorrhiza-containing Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) combined with gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) for postoperative endometriosis management. Methods:Eight databases were systematically searched before October 2021, including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Sceince, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang. Finally, all randomized controlled studies comparing Salvia miltiorrhiza-containing CHM paired with GnRH-a to GnRH-a alone for postoperative endometriosis management were included. Results: A total of 10 trials involving 836 patients were reported and analyzed. Compared with the control group, the Salvia miltiorrhiza-containing CHM combined with GnRH-a group showed significant superiority in decreasing endometriosis recurrence (risk ratio [RR] = 0.26; 95% confidence intervals [CI]: 0.16-0.41) and increasing the pregnancy rate ([RR] = 1.96; 95% CI: 1.58-2.44). Similarly, the effect of the Salvia miltiorrhiza-containing CHM combined with GnRH-a on CA-125 serum levels was positive (standardized mean difference [SMD] = -0.79; 95% CI: -1.11 to -0.47). Furthermore, this group showed a significant reduction in adverse effects. Conclusion: The results indicate that Salvia miltiorrhiza-containing CHM may be a viable choice for postoperative endometriosis therapy, with the potential to enhance pregnancy while decreasing recurrence and adverse effects.

Biomaterials for effective hemorrhage control are urgently needed in clinics as uncontrolled bleeding is associated with high mortality. Herein, we developed an injectable and in situ photo-crosslinkable hybrid hemostatic hydrogel by combining pectin methacrylate (PECMA) and gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA). This modular material system combines ionic- and photo-crosslinking chemistries to design interpenetrating networks (IPN) exhibiting tunable rheology, highly porous structure, and controllable swelling and mechanical properties. By simply changing the calcium (0-15 mM) and polymer (1.5-7%) content used for the sequential crosslinking of hydrogels via calcium gelation and UV-photopolymerization, it was possible to precisely modulate the injectability, degradation, and swelling ratio. Moreover, it is demonstrated that PECMA/GelMA hydrogels present good cytocompatibility and uniquely synergize the hemostatic properties of calcium ions on PECMA, the amine residues on GelMA, and the highly porous network toward rapid blood absorption and fast coagulation effect. An in vitro porcine skin bleeding model confirmed that the hydrogel could be directly injected into the wound and rapidly photo-crosslinked, circumventing the bleeding and decreasing the coagulation time by 39%. Importantly, the crosslinked hydrogel could be easily removed to prevent secondary wound injury. Overall, this injectable hybrid PECMA/GelMA hydrogel stands as a promising hemostatic material.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of Liuwei Dihuang formula ( LWDHF) on endothelial cells, and to study the mechanism behind the action of modulating expression of estrogen receptors. METHODS: Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was applied to induce the apoptosis of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). The concentration of nitric oxide (NO), endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and inducible NOS (iNOS) were measured by assay kits. Western blot and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) were used to detect the expression of iNOS, eNOS, b-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2), Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax), estrogen receptor (ER) α and ERß. Also, small interfering RNA (siRNA) was involved to confirm whether the protective effects of LWDHF was medicated by ERs. In vivo, the female rats were ovariectomized to establish postmenopausal vascular injury model. Then the model rats were divided into three groups and treated with saline, estradiol and LWDHF respectively. The concentration of NO and NOS in serum were measured by assay kits, and the expression of Bax, Bcl-2, ERα and ERß were detected by western blot and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: In vitro study, LWDHF significantly protected HUVECs from H2O2-induced apoptosis, with the increase of Bcl-2 and the decrease of Bax. The treatment with LWDHF inhibited concentration of NO and iNOS, and upregulated the expression of eNOS, ERα and ERß. In addition, ERα siRNA could block the protective effects of LWDHF, while ERß siRNA showed little influence. In vivo, the treatment with LWDHF suppressed the vascular injury and reduced the level of NO and NOS. LWDHF increased the expression of Bcl-2, ERα and ERß, as well as inhibiting the Bax expression. CONCLUSION: LWDHF could improve endothelial function and protect HUVECs from apoptosis via increasing the expression of ERα.

Plants classified to the genus Callicarpa L. have important medicinal and ornamental value. Here, we report and characterize the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of C. bodinieri to provide molecular basis for the further studies on the phylogeny analysis of this genus. The cp genome is 154,183 bp in length and is organized with a typical quadripartite structure, containing two inverted repeats of 25,701 bp separated by a large single-copy region of 84,956 bp and a small single-copy region of 17,825 bp. The cp genome of C. bodinieri contains 112 distinct genes, including 78 protein-coding, 30 tRNAs and 4 rRNAs genes. The phylogenetic analysis showed that C. bodinieri is fully resolved in a clade with C. nudiflora, sister to the clade of C. formosana and C. longifolia var. floccosa.

Tetrastigma hemsleyanum Diels et Gilg is a valuable Chinese medicinal herb with a long history of clinical application. Our previous study isolated and characterized a purified polysaccharide from the aerial part of Tetrastigma hemsleyanum (SYQP) and found it having antipyretic and antitumor effects in mice. A preliminary mechanistic study suggests these effects may be related to the binding of toll-like receptor (TLR4). The objective of this study is to further explore the detailed stimulating characteristics of SYQP on TLR4 signaling pathway and its in vivo immune regulating effect. We use HEK-BLUE hTLR4, mouse and human macrophage cell lines, as research tools. In vitro results show SYQP activated HEK-BLUE hTLR4 instead of HEK-BLUE Null cells. The secretion and the mRNA expression of cytokines related to TLR4 signaling significantly increased after SYQP treatment in both PMA-induced THP-1 and RAW264.7 macrophage cell lines. The TLR4 antagonist TAK-242 can almost completely abolish this activation. Furthermore, molecules such as IRAK1, NF-κB, MAPKs, and IRF3 in both the MyD88 and TRIF branches were all activated without pathway selection. In vivo results show SYQP enhanced antigen-specific spleen lymphocyte proliferation and serum IgG levels in OVA-immunized C57BL/6 mice. Orally administered 200 mg/kg SYQP induced obvious tumor regression, spleen weight increase, and the upregulation of the mRNA expression of TLR4-related cytokines in Lewis lung carcinoma-bearing mice. These results indicate SYQP can act as both a human and mouse TLR4 agonist and enhance immune responses in mice (p < 0.05). This study provides a basis for the development and utilization of SYQP as a new type of TLR4 agonist in the future.

Ampullary cancer is a rare periampullary cancer currently with no targeted therapeutic agent. It is important to develop a deeper understanding of the carcinogenesis of ampullary cancer. We attempted to explore the characteristics of ampullary cancer in our dataset and a public database, followed by a search for potential drugs. We used a bioinformatics pipeline to analyze complementary (c)DNA microarray data of ampullary cancer and surrounding normal duodenal tissues from five patients. A public database from the National Center for Biotechnology Information Gene Expression Omnibus (NCBI GEO) was applied for external validation. Bioinformatics tools used included the Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA), Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery (DAVID), MetaCore, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), Hallmark, BioCarta, Reactome, and Connectivity Map (CMap). In total, 9097 genes were upregulated in the five ampullary cancer samples compared to normal duodenal tissues. From the MetaCore analysis, genes of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARA) and retinoid X receptor (RXR)-regulated lipid metabolism were overexpressed in ampullary cancer tissues. Further a GSEA of the KEGG, Hallmark, Reactome, and Gene Ontology databases revealed that PPARA and lipid metabolism-related genes were enriched in our specimens of ampullary cancer and in the NCBI GSE39409 database. Expressions of PPARA messenger (m)RNA and the PPAR-α protein were higher in clinical samples and cell lines of ampullary cancer. US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drugs, including alvespimycin, trichostatin A (a histone deacetylase inhibitor), and cytochalasin B, may have novel therapeutic effects in ampullary cancer patients as predicted by the CMap analysis. Trichostatin A was the most potent agent for ampullary cancer with a half maximal inhibitory concentration of < 0.3 µM. According to our results, upregulation of PPARA and lipid metabolism-related genes are potential pathways in the carcinogenesis and development of ampullary cancer. Results from the CMap analysis suggested potential drugs for patients with ampullary cancer.

BACKGROUND: Deoxypodophyllotoxin, isolated from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Anthriscus sylvestris, is well-known because of its significant anti-tumor activity with strong toxicity in vitro and in vivo. OBJECTIVE: In this article, a series of deoxypodophyllotoxin derivatives were synthesized and their anti-tumor effectiveness was evaluated. METHODS: The anti-tumor activity of deoxypodophyllotoxin derivatives was investigated by the MTT assay method. Apoptosis percentage was measured by flow cytometer analysis using Annexin-V-FITC. RESULTS: The derivatives revealed obvious cytotoxicity in the MTT assay by decreasing the number of late cancer cells. The decrease of Bcl-2/Bax could be observed in MCF-7, HepG2, HT-29, and MG-63 using Annexin V-FITC. The ratio of Bcl-2/Bax in the administration group was decreased, which was determined by the ELISA kit. CONCLUSION: The derivatives of deoxypodophyllotoxin could induce apoptosis in tumor cell lines by influencing Bcl-2/Bax.

Koumine (KM) is a major alkaloid monomer in the traditional Chinese medicine herb Gelsemium elegans Benth that has exhibited therapeutic potential in clinical applications. However, the pharmacological toxicological mechanism of this drug has not been fully explored. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impacts of KM administration at a therapeutic dose in offspring. On gestational day 0, mice were injected with KM once daily for 4 consecutive days. Male and female offspring were subjected to behavioral tests and neuropathological analyses from postnatal day 60. Prenatal KM exposure resulted in cognitive and memory impairments in the Morris water maze, Y-maze test, and novel object recognition test. The open field test and elevated plus maze test indicated that prenatal KM exposure induced anxiety-like behavior in offspring. Electrophysiological experiments demonstrated that KM exposure inhibited hippocampal long-term potentiation. Immunostaining for neurogenesis markers DCX and BrdU demonstrated that KM suppressed adult neurogenesis in the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus. In addition, prenatal KM exposure induced a significant reduction in dendritic spine density in hippocampal neurons. Synaptic formation-related proteins were decreased in the KM group based on western blot. No sex differences in the effects of KM were observed. Collectively, our results indicate that prenatal KA exposure has detrimental neural effects on offspring. This study provides a preliminary preclinical toxicological assessment of the safety of KM use during pregnancy.

By systematically sorting out the ancient medical books and modern clinical literature of Yiguanjian, the historical evolution of this formula, including its source, composition, origin, processing, dosage, preparation and usage, functions and indications, evolution of prescription meaning, is textual so as to clarify the historical evolution and clinical application of Yiguanjian. On the basis of fully considering the actual demand of development of famous classical formula preparation and the usage habit of modern clinical practice, the feasible development suggestions were put forward. Yiguanjian is composed of six herbs, which is derived from Yifang Jiedu (《医方絜度》) . It is an ancient book of traditional Chinese medicine edited by QIAN Min-jie in Qing dynasty. The original medicinal plants and medicinal parts of the formula were basically the same as those recorded in the 2020 edition of Chinese Pharmacopoeia. The raw products should be selected for decoction pieces and processed according to the methods recorded in the 2020 edition of Chinese Pharmacopoeia. The reference dose of the medicine in this formula is set out in Yifang Jiedu. According to dosage of one Qian(钱)=3.73 g, the dosages of Glehniae Radix, Ophiopogonis Radix and Angelicae Sinensis Radix were 5.60 g, the dosages of Lycii Fructus and Rehmanniae Radix were 11.19 g, the dosage of Toosendan Fructus was 7.46 g. These decoction pieces were boiled and warm decoction was taken. According to ancient medical records, the formula always has the effect of nourishing Yin and relieving Qi of liver. It is used to treat syndrome of stagnation of liver-Qi and deficiency of liver-Yin and kidney-Yin, which can be seen with pain in chest, stomach and flank, acerbity and vomiting, dry throat and mouth, red tongue, weak pulse or deficiency of string and hernia. Here, the source, processing and others of Yiguanjian were clarified, providing a literature reference for the development and application of this famous classical formula.

This study examined the association between anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) use among U.S. Chinese older adults. Data was obtained from the Population Study of Chinese Elderly in Chicago (N = 3157; mean age = 72.8). Anxiety symptoms were assessed with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-A). Depressive symptoms were assessed with the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). TCM modalities included herbal products, acupuncture, massage therapy, Taichi, and other types of TCM. Although not significant, there was a trend indicating that higher levels of anxiety symptoms showed a higher rate of acupuncture use and massage therapy. Older Chinese Americans with depressive symptoms were more likely to use acupuncture and massage therapy; and they were less likely to use other TCM. Future research is needed to identify reasons for TCM use; and how these factors mediate or moderate the relationship between psychiatric symptoms and TCM use.

Objective To ascertain the short-term effects of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) auricular magnetic beads application for treatment of poor vision in primary school students. Methods In 2017, a randomized sampling method was adopted in this study.A total of 458 students with a naked eye visual acuity ≤4.9 were screened from a primary school in the jurisdiction.Of them, 230 students were informed by the parent′s informed consent to receive the TCM ear acupoint application, and the remaining 228 students served as the control group. Results The average eyes visual acuity of intervention group was 4.842, increasing to 4.848 or 4.859 after 6 or 12 weeks′ treatment by auricular magnetic bead application.After statistically analysis, there is a significant difference in short-term effect of auricular magnetic bead application on eyesight improvement for primary school students. Conclusion The TCM auricular magnetic bead application proves to have a short-term effect on the poor eyesight of the students, and the operation is simple and safe.It is conducive to improving students′ participation in poor eyesight control and achieving family and school participation in TCM prevention and treatment of myopia.

OBJECTIVES: Wulingsan has been used to cure disease about disorders related to fluid balance for thousands of years. The clinical practice of modern Chinese medicine has found that Wulingsan has the effect on reducing weight and fat, but its mechanism is not clear. This study investigated its effects on obesity rats and explored the underlying mechanisms by analyzing the plasma metabolic profiling. METHODS: The effects of Wulingsan on obesity were evaluated with obesity rats induced by high-fat diet. Ultra high performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF/MS) was performed to discover potential biomarkers and evaluate whether Wulingsan could regulate these biomarkers. The levels of triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) in serum were assessed by ELISA kits. RESULTS: Remarkably, TG, TC, HDL-C and LDL-C in obesity rats were ameliorated after oral administration of Wulingsan. Further investigation indicated that the plasma metabolic profiles were clearly improved. Twelve potential biomarkers were identified. After intervention, these biomarkers turned back to normal level at some extent. CONCLUSION: The results showed that Wulingsan extract groups were normalized. Additionally, this study also showed that the metabonomics method was a promising tool to unravel how traditional Chinese medicines worked and these data can provide scientific basis for clinical application of Wulingsan.

BACKGROUND: Infants with complex congenital heart disease (CCHD) often develop neurodevelopmental disabilities. Cognitive abilities are associated with vagally mediated autonomic function. Skin-to-skin contact (SSC) interventions enhance infant neurodevelopment and autonomic function in other high-risk populations. AIM: To examine the effects of a neonatal SSC intervention on learning and autonomic function in 3-month-old infants: infants with CCHD who received neonatal SSC ( n = 10), typically developing (TD) infants ( n = 16), and infants with CCHD without SSC ( n = 10). METHODS: This secondary data analysis measured cognitive function using the mobile paradigm (MP), a classic measure of learning based on operant conditioning. Autonomic function was assessed with heart rate (HR) and HR variability (HRV). Data were analyzed with repeated-measures general linear mixed modeling with α = .10 for this exploratory study. RESULTS: Learning rates were TD = 75%, cardiac-SSC = 70%, and cardiac-control = 40%. Learners demonstrated significant reductions in HRV during the MP; nonlearners exhibited no change. TD and cardiac-SSC groups exhibited increases in HR and reductions in HRV during the MP. No significant changes occurred in the cardiac-control group. Nonlinear HRV during the MP differed only in the TD group. CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest improvements in cognitive and autonomic development in 3-month-old infants with CCHD who received neonatal SSC. Learning and autonomic function results in infants with CCHD who had not received SSC suggest reduced capacity to muster the physiologic resources to carry out this cognitive task. Findings provide preliminary evidence in support of implementation of SSC with infants with CCHD and support additional research.

BACKGROUND: Robotic hepatectomy has been accepted as an alternative for patients needing surgery. However, few reports addressed the patient-reported outcomes and long-term quality of life (QoL) of patients having undergone robotic liver surgery. METHODS: This study presented the QoL and cost-effectiveness associated with robotic and open hepatectomy by performing a comparative survey using two standardized questionnaires (Short Form-36 and Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index). RESULTS: One hundred patients completed the study. The robotic group tended to experienced longer operation time but shorter length of hospital stay compared to open group. Moreover, the robotic group had faster return to daily activities, less need of patient-controlled anesthesia, and less wound-related complaints in long-term follow-up. The robotic group incurred higher peri-operative expenses; however, the cost of inpatient care was lower. CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggested that robotic hepatectomy provided good post-operative QoL and recovery of daily activity. However, efforts for lowering the financial burden of medical care by reducing the cost of robotic surgery is necessary for further application.

Transurethral enucleation of the prostate allows more complete excision of the proliferative glands at the anatomical level, and has its unique advantages over the traditional surgical procedures, such as better results of surgery, lower recurrence rate, and higher satisfaction of the patients. At present, transurethral laser enucleation of the prostate has a limited application in many grass-root hospitals for the high price of laser and plasma equipment and a high incidence rate of postoperative urinary incontinence. In this context, monopolar transurethral enucleation and resection of the prostate (mTUERP) has come into the attention of clinicians, which can be performed with the equipment for transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and may become a real alternative of TURP. This paper presents an overview on the development and present status of mTUERP.

Most nail salon workers in the greater New York City area are Asian immigrant women. They are exposed daily to potentially toxic chemicals and hazards in their workplace, making them more vulnerable for possible health problems. The study's primary purpose was to identify factors influencing past year healthcare utilization among Asian immigrant women working in nail salons. A cross-sectional study was conducted based on a modification of Andersen's behavioral model of healthcare utilization in which 148 Korean and Chinese immigrant women currently working in nail salons were surveyed. The questionnaire included: (1) individual health determinants, (2) health service utilization in the past year, and (3) work environment, work-related health concerns, and work-related health problems. Descriptive statistics and multivariate logistic regression models assessed factors related to past year healthcare utilization. Women who had health insurance (p < .01), a usual source of care (p < .01), low educational attainment (p < .05), and more work-related health symptoms (p < .05) were more likely to visit a primary care provider. Women who had health insurance (p < .01), a usual source of care (p < .05), and low educational attainment (p < .05), were also more likely to visit a woman's health provider. Korean (rather than Chinese) women (p < .05) and women who perceived themselves to be in fair/poor health (p < .05) were more likely to see a traditional provider of Eastern medicine. Asian immigrant women who work in nail salons have workplace health and safety concerns. They generally use Western rather than traditional medicine, with different factors related to these two types of medicine.
