RESUMEN

A new method relying on machine learning and resistivity to predict concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbon pollution in soil was proposed as a means of investigation and monitoring. Currently, determining pollutant concentrations in soil is primarily achieved through costly sampling and testing of numerous borehole samples, which carries the risk of further contamination by penetrating the aquifer. Additionally, conventional petroleum hydrocarbon geophysical surveys struggle to establish a correlation between survey results and pollutant concentration. To overcome these limitations, three machine learning models (KNN, RF, and XGBOOST) were combined with the geoelectrical method to predict petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations in the source area. The results demonstrate that the resistivity-based prediction method utilizing machine learning is effective, as validated by R-squared values of 0.91 and 0.94 for the test and validation sets, respectively, and a root mean squared error of 0.19. Furthermore, this study confirmed the feasibility of the approach using actual site data, along with a discussion of its advantages and limitations, establishing it as an inexpensive option to investigate and monitor changes in petroleum hydrocarbon concentration in soil.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) is a reliable treatment for actinic keratosis (AK), but its effect needs to be enhanced in thick lesions. Plum-blossom needle is a traditional Chinese cost-effective instrument for enhancing the transdermal delivery of ALA. However, whether it could improve the efficacy of AK treatment has not yet been investigated. OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy and safety of plum-blossom needle-assisted PDT in facial AK in the Chinese population. METHODS: In this multicenter, prospective study, a total of 142 patients with AKs (grades I-III) were randomized into the plum-blossom needle-assisted PDT group (P-PDT) and control PDT group (C-PDT). In the P-PDT group, each AK lesion was tapped vertically by a plum-blossom needle before the application of 10% ALA cream. In the C-PDT group, each lesion was only wiped with regular saline before ALA cream incubation. Then, 3 hours later, all the lesions were irradiated with light-emitting diode (LED) at a wavelength of 630 nm. PDT was performed once every 2 weeks until all lesion patients achieved complete remission or completed six sessions. The efficacy (lesion response) and safety (pain scale and adverse events) in both groups were evaluated before each treatment and at every follow-up visit at 3-month intervals until 12 months. RESULTS: In the P-PDT and C-PDT groups, the clearance rates for all AK lesions after the first treatment were 57.9% and 48.0%, respectively (P < 0.05). For grade I AK lesions, the clearance rates were 56.5% and 50.4%, respectively (P = 0.34). For grade II AK lesions, the clearance rates were 58.0% and 48.9%, respectively (P = 0.1). For grade III AK lesions, the clearance rates were 59.0% and 44.2%, respectively (P < 0.05). Moreover, grade III AK lesions in the P-PDT group required fewer treatment sessions (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the pain score between the two groups (P = 0.752). CONCLUSION: Plum-blossom needle tapping may enhance the efficacy of ALA-PDT by facilitating ALA delivery in the treatment of AK.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at Neiguan (PC 6) on myocardial fibrosis in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs), and to explore the contribution of interleukin-1 β (IL-1 β), insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), and transforming growth factor β 1 (TGF- β 1) to the effects.@*METHODS@#Nine 12-weeks-old Wistar Kyoto (WKY) male rats were employed as the normal group. Twenty-seven SHRs were equally randomized into SHR, SHR+EA, and SHR + sham groups. EA was applied at bilateral PC 6 once a day 30 min per day in 8 consecutive weeks. After 8-weeks EA treatment at PC 6, histopathologic changes of collagen type I (Col I), collagen type 1 (Col 1) and the levels of IGF-1, 1L-1 β, TGF- β 1, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 were examined in myocardial tissure respectively.@*RESULTS@#After 8-weeks EA treatment at PC 6, the enhanced myocardial fibrosis in SHRs were characterized by the increased mean fluorescence intensity of Col I and Col 1 in myocardium tissue (P<0.01). All these abnormal alterations above in SHR + EA group was significantly lower compared with the SHR group (P<0.01). Meanwhile, the increased levels of IL-1 β, IGF-1, TGF-β 1 in serum or myocardial tissue of SHRs, diminished MMP 9 mRNA expression in SHRs were also markedly inhibited after 8 weeks of EA treatment (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Furthermore, the contents of IL-1 β, IGF-1, TGF-β 1 in myocardial tissue were positively correlated with the systolic blood pressure and hydroxyproline respectively (P<0.01).@*CONCLUSION@#EA at bilateral PC 6 could ameliorate cardiac fibrosis in SHRs, which might be mediated by regulation of 1L-1 β/IGF-1-TGF- β 1-MMP9 pathway.

RESUMEN

Electroporation is the process of instantaneously increasing the permeability of a cell membrane under a pulsed electric field. Depending on the parameters of the electric pulses and the target cell electrophysiological characteristics, electroporation can be either reversible or irreversible. Reversible electroporation facilitates the delivery of functional genetic materials or drugs to target cells, inducing cell death by apoptosis, mitotic catastrophe, or pseudoapoptosis; irreversible electroporation is an ablative technology which directly ablates a large amount of tissue without causing harmful thermal effects; electrotherapy using an electric field can induce cell apoptosis without any aggressive invasion. Reversible and irreversible electroporation can also activate systemic antitumor immune response and enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy. In this review, we discuss recent progress related to electroporation, and summarize its latest applications. Further, we discuss the synergistic effects of electroporation-related therapies and immunotherapy. We also propose perspectives for further investigating electroporation and immunotherapy in cancer treatment.

RESUMEN

Objectives: The prognosis of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) patients is closely related to early nutritional support. It is well-established that changes in glutamine (Gln), an important amino acid and nutritional supplement, can reflect disease severity. However, no consensus has been reached on the role of Gln nutrition therapy for SAP patients. We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to summarize and evaluate the advantages of Gln supplementation in SAP. Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, the Embase, Cochrane Library, and Chinese databases (CNKI, SinoMed, Wanfang, and VIP) were systematically searched for eligible studies that included glutamine supplementation in SAP patients from inception to October 31 2021, excluding non-SAP studies. Primary outcome measures included mortality, APACHE II score, complications, and length of hospital stay. The meta-analysis was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42021288371) and was conducted using Review Manager and Stata softwares. Results: This meta-analysis included 30 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with a total of 1,201 patients. Six primary outcomes and six secondary outcomes were analyzed. For the primary outcomes, Gln supplementation was associated with lower mortality (OR = 0.38, 95% CI: 0.21-0.69, P = 0.001), total hospital stay (MD = -3.41, 95% CI: -4.93 to -1.88, P < 0.0001) and complications (OR = 0.45, 95% CI: 0.31-0.66, P < 0.0001) compared with conventional nutrition. Further subgroup analysis found that parenteral glutamine was more effective in reducing mortality. In terms of secondary outcomes, Gln supplementation helped restore liver, kidney and immune function, with significantly increased serum albumin (SMD = 1.02, 95% CI: 0.74-1.31, P < 0.00001) and IgG levels (MD = 1.24, 95% CI: 0.82-1.67, P < 0.00001), and decreased serum creatinine (Scr) (MD = -12.60, 95% CI: -21.97 to -3.24, P = 0.008), and inflammatory indicators such as C-reaction protein (CRP) (SMD = -1.67, 95% CI: -2.43 to -0.90, P < 0.0001). Conclusion: Although Gln supplementation is not routinely recommended, it is beneficial for SAP patients. Indeed, glutamine nutrition has little effect on some indicator outcomes but contributes to improving the prognosis of this patient population.Systematic Review Registration: PROSPERO (york.ac.uk). RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis is an inflammatory variant of vasculitis with a variety of causes that only affects the skin. Its pathological manifestations include neutrophil infiltration and nuclear fragmentation. Clinically, it is characterised by a pleomorphic rash, including erythema, purpuric skin lesions, reticulocytosis, necrosis and ulceration. Once formed, local ulcerations are very difficult to heal. CASE PRESENTATION: A 46-year-old female was diagnosed with cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis. The patient's legs exhibited ulcers with a black eschar on the surface. The largest wound was 4.5 × 4.0 cm and the deepest wound was 1.7 × 1.8 × 1.0 cm. The ulcers had been present for 6 months and did not exhibit signs of healing. Treatment was commenced with platelet-rich plasma, and the wounds healed within 1 month. CONCLUSION: Topical application of autologous platelet-rich plasma gel exerts beneficial effects in cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis with regard to wound size reduction, and it induces granulation tissue formation. Platelet-rich plasma may represent a safe and cost-effective treatment for managing cutaneous wound healing to reduce the length of the recovery period.

RESUMEN

Senile osteoporosis is a major public health concern, and yet, effective treatment methods do not exist. Herein, we used metabolomics to analyze the change of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in senescent osteoblasts. We found that with an increase in the number of passages, the osteoblasts proliferative ability, alkaline phosphatase activity, and expression levels of bone metabolism genes decreased, the expression levels of aging-related genes increased, the damage caused by oxidative stress became more severe. Furthermore, levels of n-3 PUFA family members were downregulated in passage 10 than in passage 3 osteoblasts. These findings indicated that multiple passages led to more severe oxidative stress damage in senescent osteoblasts, which could be related to a decrease in n-3 PUFA levels. We believe that unsaturated fatty acid metabolism is a key factor involved in osteoblast senescence and that a proper dietary intake of n-3 PUFA may delay the occurrence senile osteoporosis.

RESUMEN

UHPLC-LTQ-Orbitrap-MS was developed for the identification of chemical constituents in Qingfei Paidu Decoction, which will clarify its material basis. ACQUITY UHPLC HSS T3 chromatography column(2.1 mm×100 mm, 1.8 µm) was used with 0.1% formic acid(B)-acetonitrile(A) as the mobile phase in gradient elution. The decoction was detected by high-resolution liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry equipped with an ESI ion source in positive and negative mode. Based on the accurate mass measurements, retention time, mass fragmentation patterns combined with comparison of reference and literature reports, a total of 87 major compounds including 43 flavonoids, 9 alkaloids, 4 triterpenoid saponins, 1 sesquiterpene, 2 coumarins, 10 phenolic acids and 18 other compounds were tentatively screened and characterized. UHPLC-LTQ-Orbitrap-MS was employed to comprehensively elucidate the chemical components in Qingfei Paidu Decoction, which basically covered 20 Chinese medicines except gypsum in Qingfei Paidu Decoction. These collective results provide a scientific basis for further research on the quality control standard of Qingfei Paidu Decoction.

RESUMEN

In this paper, through the collection and collation of ancient herbs, medical books and prescriptions, combined with modern literature, the historical changes of the name, origin, position, medicinal parts, collection, processing and processing of bluegrass were systematically combed and verified. It can be seen from the research that bluegrass was first used as medicine by the fruit, namely blueberry, which was originally Polygonum tinctorium. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, blueberry was rarely used, and it has been no longer used medicinally. In the Wei and Jin Dynasties, the medicinal parts extended to the stems and leaves, and most of them used juice as medicine.Since the Tang Dynasty, origin has been extended to Isatis indigotica, Baphicacanthus cusia, Indigofera tinctoria, Compositae plant Wulan, etc. In the Song Dynasty, the medicinal parts extended to the roots, and the "Banlangen" began to appear, and gradually became the main medicinal parts of blue medicinal materials, the main base of which was B. cusia. Since the Qing Dynasty, I. indigotica, a Cruciferae, has gradually become a genuine indigo root, while B. cusia has become a southern indigo root. It was the first mineral dye imported from abroad for thrush, and then used as medicine, also known as clam powder. Because it was found that it had the same effect with the extract of bluegrass, it was also named indigo naturalis in China, which has lasted till now. The main stream of Isatidis Folium in the past dynasties is the dry stem and leaf of Clerodendrum cyrtophylum. Since the Qing Dynasty, the stem and leaf of Isatis indigotica, P. tinctorium and other blue grasses have been gradually mixed as substitutes and gradually become the mainstream.

RESUMEN

Irinotecan (CPT-11) is a cytotoxic drug that has wide applicability and usage in cancer treatment. Despite its success, patients suffer dose-dependent diarrhea, limiting the drug's efficacy. No effective therapy is available for this unmet medical need. The bacterial ß-glucuronidase (ß-GUS) plays pivotal role in CPT-11-induced diarrhea (CID) via activating the non-toxic SN-38G to toxic SN-38 inside intestine. By using structural-based virtual screening, three old drugs (N-Desmethylclozapine, Aspartame, and Gemifloxacin) were firstly identified as selective bacterial ß-GUS inhibitors. The IC50 values of the compounds in the enzyme-based and cell-based assays range from 0.0389 to 3.6040 and 0.0105 to 5.3730 µM, respectively. The compounds also showed good selectivity against mammalian ß-GUS and no significant cytotoxicity in bacteria. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations were performed to further investigate the binding modes of compounds with bacterial ß-GUS. Binding free energy decomposition revealed that the compounds formed strong interactions with E413 in catalytic trail from primary monomer and F365' on the bacterial loop from the other monomer of bacterial ß-GUS, explaining the selectivity against mammalian ß-GUS. The old drugs identified here may be used as bacterial ß-GUS inhibitors for CID or other bacterial ß-GUS-related disorders.

RESUMEN

Tetrastigma hemsleyanum Diels et Gilg (THDG) is used as a Chinese traditional anti-inflammatory medicine for about thousands of years. In this work, Tetrastigma hemsleyanum Diels et Gilg's polysaccharide (TP) can inhibit E. coli's growth in initial dosing period. Compared with the antibacterial effect of Achyranthe's polysaccharide (AP) from their metabolic profile, it's obviously that their metabolic sites for E. coli were inconsistent. Moreover, TP could not only increase the level of fructose-6-phosphate (F6P), decrease the level of fructose-1,6-diphosphate (FBP), but also charge the amount of the two differential metabolic with the change of the concentration and the dosing time. Actually, F6P could transform into FBP by catalyze of 6-phosphofructokinase-1(6-PFK-1), which is an important process in glycolysis. Furthermore, FBP was considered have positively correlated with E. coli's growth rate. Therefore, TP can inhibit the E. coli's proliferation by interfering with the process for glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. Based on the experimental result, we proposed a new mouthwash method to evaluate the anti-bacterial activity. Compared with AP, TP can inhibit the E. coli's growth within 2 h with a low concentration (0.5%) and a short dosing time (5 min). This study extends the applications of THDG and establishes a new assessment method for the pharmacology activity of Chinese herbal medicine.

RESUMEN

Acupuncture sensation, as one of the essential signs of (arrival of ), is closely associated with curative effect. With systematically reviewing the literature regarding relationship between acupuncture sensations of and different organizational structures of acupoint area (skin, connective tissue, muscles, nerves and blood vessels), it is believed that acupuncture sensation of is the product of various organizational structures in acupoint area, which is closely related to the nervous system. The sensations sensed by the hands of acupuncturists, which is called sense of needle stagnation, maybe caused by the contraction of muscles in the acupoint area during the process of needle manipulation. By system review, this paper puts forward a new research idea to explore the role of different manipulations of needling in generating the sense of -generating needle based on different acupoint structure and brain function response system, which could provide some reference for clarifying the scientific mechanism and clinical application of acupuncture sensations of .

RESUMEN

To investigate the curative effect of modified Buzhong Yiqi decoction combined with pelvic floor muscle exercise-biofeedback-electrostimulation on early postpartum pelvic floor dysfunction disease (PFD) and its effect on the expression of transforming growth factor (TGF-ß1), matrix metalloprotein (MMP-2), and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP-2). A total of 186 PFD patients admitted to our hospital from March 2014 to December 2016 were selected in the study and were randomly divided into test group (n=93) and control group (n=93). The control group received pelvic floor muscle exercises-biofeedback-electrostimulation, while the test group was additionally treated with modified Buzhong Yiqi decoction based on the treatment in control group. Then the clinical efficacy was compared between two groups. The results showed that vaginal contractile electromyography (EMG), duration of vaginal constriction, dynamic vaginal pressure and pelvic floor myoelectric activity in the test group at 1, 3 and 6 months after treatment were significantly higher than those before treatment and the control group (P<0.05). The effective rate for urinary incontinence was 97.14% in test group, significantly higher than 75.68% in the control group (P<0.05). The effective rate for improvement of sexual life quality was 96.43% in test group, significantly higher than 74.07% in control group (P<0.05). 1, 3 and 6 months after treatment, the uterine prolapse, posterior wall prolapse and anterior wall prolapse grade in test group was slightly lower than that in the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant. After treatment, the levels of TGF-ß1 and TIMP-2 in the test group were higher than those in the control group, while the levels of MMP-2 were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The results showed that modified Buzhong Yiqi decoction combined with pelvic floor muscle exercise-biofeedback-electrostimulation can effectively relieve the clinical symptoms, promote the body recovery and improve the quality of sexual life in PFD patients, with remarkable advantages, so it is worthy of popularizing.

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the clinical efficacy and action mechanism of acupuncture for ovulatory disorder infertility of ovarian induction period with clomiphene citrate (CC).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Through retrospective analysis, 36 patients with ovulatory disorder infertility were divided into CC group (16 cases) and acupuoture group (20 cases) by method. The patients in the CC group were treated with oral administration of CC (50 mg) for 5 days from the 5th day of menstruation; based on the treatment of CC, patients in the acupuncture group were treated with acupuncture; the group A of acupoint was mainly consisted of acupoints of the conception vessel and the three meridians and front- acupoints in abdomen; the group B of acupoint was mainly consisted of acupoints of the governor vessel and back- acupoints. The two groups of the acupoints were selected alternately, combined with the -guan points (Taichong (LR 3)、Hegu (LI 4)) and five- points. The needles were inserted with flying needling method, and the needles were retained for 30 min per treatment; acupuncture was given once every other day. All the patients were treated for 2 months, and treatment stopped if pregnancy occurred. The pregnancy rate, cycle ovulation rate, maximum diameter of follicle, endometrial thickness and adverse effects were compared between the two groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The pregnancy rate of the acupuncture group was 75.0% (15/20), which was superior to 37.5% (6/16) in the CC group (<0.05). The cycle ovulation rates of two groups were 70.4% (19/27, >0.05). The maximum diameter of follicle and the endometrium thickness in the acupuncture group were superior to those in the CC group (both <0.05). The incidence of adverse effects in the acupuncture group was 0% (0/20), which was lower than 18.8% (3/16) in the CC group (<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b> acupuncture combined with CC could improve the quality of follicle and the receptivity of endometrium in patients with ovulatory disorder infertility, so as to improve the pregnancy rate, which could be used as a safe and effective means to cooperate with modern assisted reproductive technology.</p>

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To treat patients with vascular mild cognitive impairment (VMCI) using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it is necessary to classify the patients into TCM syndrome types and to apply different treatments to different types. In this paper, we investigate how to properly carry out the classification for patients with VMCI aged 50 or above using a novel data-driven method known as latent tree analysis (LTA). METHOD: A cross-sectional survey on VMCI was carried out in several regions in Northern China between February 2008 and February 2012 which resulted in a data set that involves 803 patients and 93 symptoms. LTA was performed on the data to reveal symptom co-occurrence patterns, and the patients were partitioned into clusters in multiple ways based on the patterns. The patient clusters were matched up with syndrome types, and population statistics of the clusters are used to quantify the syndrome types and to establish classification rules. RESULTS: Eight syndrome types are identified: Qi deficiency, Qi stagnation, Blood deficiency, Blood stasis, Phlegm-dampness, Fire-heat, Yang deficiency, and Yin deficiency. The prevalence and symptom occurrence characteristics of each syndrome type are determined. Quantitative classification rules are established for determining whether a patient belongs to each of the syndrome types. CONCLUSION: A solution for the TCM syndrome classification problem for patients with VMCI and aged 50 or above is established based on the LTA of unlabeled symptom survey data. The results can be used as a reference in clinic practice to improve the quality of syndrome differentiation and to reduce diagnosis variances across physicians. They can also be used for patient selection in research projects aimed at finding biomarkers for the syndrome types and in randomized control trials aimed at determining the efficacy of TCM treatments of VMCI.

RESUMEN

Nowadays, in silico tools are widely used to provide the potential structure of the metabolites formed depending on the site of metabolism. These methods can also highlight the molecular moieties that help to direct the molecule into the cytochrome cavity so that the site of metabolism is in proximity to the catalytic center. In this minireview, we summarized three aspects of the in silico methods in the application of prediction of ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) properties of compounds: structure-based approaches for predicting molecular modeling of drug metabolizing enzymes; in silico metabolite prediction; and pharmacophore models for analysis substrate specificity. Moreover, we also extended the in silico studies in Chinese herbal medicines (CHM) research.
