Background: Facial telangiectasias is a prevalent cosmetic disorder that can be associated with several conditions such as rosacea. IPL (intensity pulsed light) therapy is commonly used for the treatment of vascular lesions. This study tested the efficacy of an IPL system emitting selected vascular chromophore-specific wavelengths in the range of 500-1200 nm for the treatment of vascular lesions. Materials and Methods: A total of 39 patients affected by different vascular lesions on their face were enrolled. The procedure consisted of three treatment sessions, spaced 1 month apart, using the IPL system with a 500-677 and 854-1200 nm filter. Follow-up was performed at 21-90 days (3 weeks-3 months) after the last IPL session. Three-dimensional and dermoscopic clinical photographs were captured and evaluated using a five-point scale. Adverse events were checked. Results: In total, 21 patients achieved excellent improvement, 13 patients achieved good improvement, 3 patients achieved moderate improvement, 2 patients achieved mild improvement, and 0 patients achieved no improvement, with an overall good response to treatment. The photographic evaluation showed good results as soon as 3 days after the last IPL session. Relevant side effects were absent. Conclusions: The study device may represent a successful treatment to improve vascular lesions that are resistant to laser therapy.

Acne is one of the most frequent dermatological afflictions especially for people in their first 30 years of age. Several studies have shown that nutrition is one of the key factors involved in acne pathogenesis. Data show that a high glycemic index diet may be a trigger in acne pathogenesis, while patients with a low glycemic index diet have fewer acne lesions. Milk and chocolate are also involved in the exacerbation of acne. However, foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids suppress the production of inflammatory cytokines with therapeutic effect. Additionally, docosapentaenoic acid and γ-linolenic acid have demonstrated improved acne lesions. The aim of this review was to summarize current knowledge on the association between acne and diet with special attention to the most frequently discussed factors involved in its pathogenesis: milk, chocolate, omega-3 fatty acids, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinism, and IGF-1.

BACKGROUND: The spread of non-invasive procedures for fat deposits removal has increased rapidly in recent years. In the field of esthetic medicine, high-intensity focused electromagnetic field (HIFEM) technology has recently been introduced, as a tool for toning and strengthening muscles, which goes far beyond normal physical exercise. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a new device for body remodeling. METHODS: A set of 15 patients (7 males and 8 females, BMI 24.05 ± 2.01 kg m-2 , age 32-57) participated in this study. Patients were enrolled at Dermatos center, Montesilvano, Abruzzo, Italy. The technology used is FMS (Flat Magnetic Stimulation): 6-8 treatment sessions were performed. The sessions must be repeated twice a week, with a minimum of 2 days between each session. Treatment duration varies from 20 to 45 min, depending on patients. RESULTS: During 1-month follow-up after the last treatment evaluations, the results showed tonification, the strengthening of muscles, and the reduction of localized adiposity. There is a significant reduction in waist circumference (80.7 ± 4.3 cm vs 77.3 ± 5.6 cm, p < 0.001). All patients showed relatively high satisfaction immediately after the last treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Our data show that intense muscle activity is generated by FMS treatments, suggesting that this technology could be used as a convenient and effective muscle toning tool.

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) with its precursor miniaturization of anagen phase (MA) and telogen effluvium (TE) represent nonscarring hair loss diseases which causes moderate to severe aesthetic and psychologic discomfort in affected people. Several therapeutic approaches have been tested through the latest decades, with different degree of success. In this study we aim to analyze the efficacy and outcome of an innovative therapeutic protocol, named TRICHOBIOLIGHT, a combination of active principles conveyed by mesotherapy directly on the scalp with a subsequent photobiostimulation session with LED light (630 nm). About 107 patients (49 women, 58 men, mean age 45-year-old) with clinical and trichoscopic diagnosis of MA, AGA, and TE have been enrolled at Skin Center of L'Aquila, Avezzano and Pescara (Italy) and subsequently treated with the TRICHOBIOLIGHT protocol. 4 patients dropped out at the beginning of the study: 2 patients because of an histological diagnosis of scarring alopecia and lichen scleroatrophicus, and 2 patients dropped out because of adverse reaction to the treatment. Excellent to good outcome have been reached in the 82.5% of patients (85/103), 9 patients (8.7%) reached a sufficient result while 7 patients (6.8%) partially respond to the treatment. Two patients (2%) did not respond at all. TRICHOBIOLIGHT is a promising protocol, working through the combined action of the active principles and the photobiostimulation, that lead to a strengthening and thickening of the residual hair, giving an optical thickening effect that provides high quality aesthetic results and, consequently, appreciable psychological results.

Acne is an inflammatory disease of the pilo-sebaceous unit, which mainly affects young adolescents. The pathogenesis is multifactorial, as a combination of genetic predisposition, hormonal production, hyper-seborrhea, inflammation and overgrowth of C. acnes. Moreover, diet-induced hyperinsulinemia can lead to sebocyte stimulation, androgen production, and thus acne lesions. Pharmacological therapeutic approaches are varied and include topical and systemic antibiotics and, in severe cases, systemic retinoids, with several side-effects. However, increasing evidence has shown that adequate vitamin supplementation, use of probiotics, and proper nutrition with low carbohydrates and fats intake, can significantly contribute to the patient's clinical improvement. In this review, we describe the role of probiotics, vitamins, alimentation, antioxidants, UV exposure, and plants in acne disease.
