RESUMEN

Cost-effective treatment or even valorization of the bauxite residue (red mud) from the alumina industry is in demand to improve their environmental and economic liabilities. This study proposes a strategy that provides a near-complete conversion of bauxite residue to valuable products. The first step involves dilute acid leaching, which allowed the fractionation of raw residues into (1) an aqueous fraction rich in silica and aluminium and (2) a solid residue rich in iron, titanium and rare earth elements. For the proposed process, 91% of the original silicon, 67% of the aluminium, 78% of the scandium and 69% of the cerium were recovered. The initial cost evaluation suggested that this approach is profitable with a gross margin of 167 $US per tonne. This "Residue2Product" approach should be considered for large-scale practices as one of the most economical and sustainable solutions to this environmental and economic liability for the alumina industry.

Background: Migraine is a common and recurrent type of headache. Avoiding trigger factors is not often successful in reducing headache frequency, duration, and severity. Prophylactic medications may be effective but are limited by strict indications and daily medication intake. This review aimed to investigate the durable effect of acupuncture on episodic migraine. Methods: Seven databases including Medline, Embase, PubMed, etc., were searched for English and Chinese literature from their inception to 23 November 2022. Two independent reviewers screened the retrieved studies and extracted the data. Primary outcomes were monthly migraine days, monthly migraine attacks, and VAS score at 3 months post-treatment. The risk of bias in included studies was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2.0 tool. Meta-analysis was conducted where applicable. Results: Fifteen studies were included in this review. Acupuncture reduced the number of migraine attacks (MD -0.68; 95% CI -0.93, -0.43; p < 0.001), the number of days with migraine (MD -0.86; 95% CI -1.18, -0.55; p < 0.001), and VAS score (MD -1.01; 95% CI -1.30, -0.72; p < 0.001) to a greater degree than sham acupuncture at 3 months after treatment. Significant differences in reducing pain intensity of migraine in favor of acupuncture compared with waitlist (MD -1.84; 95% CI -2.31, -1.37; p < 0.001) or flunarizine (MD -2.00; 95% CI -2.35, -1.65; p < 0.001) at 3 months after treatment were found, and the differences reached the minimal clinically important difference (MCID). Conclusion: This review found that the durable effect of acupuncture for episodic migraine lasted at least 3 months after treatment. More high-quality studies with longer follow-up periods in the future are needed to confirm the findings.

Phototherapy (including photothermal therapy, PTT; and photodynamic therapy, PDT) has been widely used for cancer treatment, but conventional PTT/PDT show limited therapeutic effects due to the lack of disease recognition ability. The integration of fluorescence imaging with PTT/PDT can reveal tumor locations in a real-time manner, holding great potential in early diagnosis and precision treatment of cancers. However, the traditional fluorescence imaging in the visible and near-infrared-I regions (VIS/NIR-I, 400-900 nm) might be interfered by the scattering and autofluorescence from tissues, leading to a low imaging resolution and high false positive rate. The deeper near-infrared-II (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm) fluorescence imaging can address these interferences. Combining NIR-II fluorescence imaging with PTT/PDT can significantly improve the accuracy of tumor theranostics and minimize damages to normal tissues. This review summarized recent advances in tumor PTT/PDT and NIR-II fluorophores, especially discussed achievements, challenges and prospects around NIR-II fluorescence imaging-guided PTT/PDT for cancers.

Objectives: This study aims to preliminarily evaluate the effect and safety of electroacupuncture (EA) in treating pediatric chronic urinary retention (CUR) following lumbosacral surgeries, with treatment duration evaluated. Methods: This prospective case-series study was performed from August 5, 2017, to July 31, 2022. Pediatric patients diagnosed with CUR following lumbosacral surgeries were included and treated by EA for 2-16 weeks. Responders were defined as participants achieving a reduction of 50% or more in post void residuals (PVR) from baseline. Time-to-event analysis was applied to explore the association between EA treatment duration and response rate. Adverse event was recorded. Results: Totally 14 participants (mean [SD] age, 12 [4] years) completed EA treatment. Response rate was 71% (10/14) at the 12th week. 50% (7/14) of participants removed catheters at the 12th week, and none of them experienced re-catheterization in the 24-week follow-up. No serious adverse event was reported. Time-to-event analysis estimated that over 50% patients could respond to EA of more than 8 weeks. Subgroup analysis showed that participants with baseline PVR ≥300 ml and CUR duration ≥12 months experienced longer EA duration to reach the response rate of 50%, compared with those whose PVR <300 ml and CUR duration <12 months (median value: 12 weeks vs. 8 weeks, 12 weeks vs. 4 weeks, respectively). Conclusions: EA could reduce PVR for pediatric patients suffering from CUR following lumbosacral surgeries, with long-term efficacy and safety. EA treatment of more than 8 weeks was reasonable. Purpose: Cyclic mastalgia is prevalent among women and negatively impairs their daily life and work. There is still a lack of effective therapies for mastalgia, and acupuncture may be a promising method. We design this multicenter randomized trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture on cyclic mastalgia. Study Design and methods: Sixty participants with moderate-to-severe cyclic breast pain (with a duration of 5-21 days and the worst pain scoring 5 points or more on Numerical Rating Scale [NRS]) will be recruited at three hospitals in China. They will be randomly assigned to acupuncture group or sham-acupuncture group at 1:1 ratio to receive 16-session treatment during 3 consecutive menstrual cycles, and follow-up for 6 menstrual cycles after treatment. The primary outcome is the change from baseline in the NRS score on the worst breast pain during the third cycle of treatment period. All statistical tests will be two-sided and P value <0.05 will be considered statistically significant.

PURPOSE: Electroacupuncture (EA) is a component alternative therapy for severe chronic constipation (SCC). Women are more vulnerable to SCC and gender might impact the response of patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders to therapy. We performed this secondary analysis to explore the effectiveness and safety of EA compared with prucalopride among women with SCC. METHODS: Based on a multicenter, randomized, noninferiority trial, 446 female patients were randomly assigned to receive 28-session EA (n = 222) over 8 weeks with 24-week follow-up without treatment or to receive prucalopride (n = 224) over 32 consecutive weeks. The primary outcome was the proportion of overall complete spontaneous bowel movements (CSBMs) responders over weeks 1-8, defined as at least three CSBMs per week, and more than an increase of one CSBM from baseline meanwhile for at least 6 weeks during an 8-week treatment period. Secondary outcomes measure sustained CSBM responder, weekly responders, change from baseline in mean weekly CSBMs and SBMs, straining and stool consistency, quality of life, and adverse events (AEs). RESULTS: The proportion of overall responders was 25.23% in the EA group, similar to 25.89% in the prucalopride group, with a between-group difference of - 0.67% (95% CI, - 8.80 to 7.40%; P = 0.872) during an 8-week treatment. In the secondary outcomes, EA and prucalopride groups had no significant difference, except that EA was inferior to prucalopride in improving SBMs. The AEs were less in the EA group than the prucalopride group. CONCLUSION: EA may be a promising and safe treatment for women with SCC; its effect could sustain 24 weeks after treatment stopped.

Nanocomposite hydrogels are highly porous colloidal structures with a high adsorption capacity, making them promising materials for wastewater treatment. In particular, magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) incorporated hydrogels are an excellent adsorbent for aquatic pollutants. An added advantage is that, with the application of an external magnetic field, magnetic hydrogels can be collected back from the wastewater system. However, magnetic hydrogels are quite brittle and structurally unstable under compact conditions such as in fixed-bed adsorption columns. To address this issue, this study demonstrates a unique hydrogel composite bead structure, providing a good adsorption capacity and superior compressive stress tolerance due to the presence of hollow cores within the beads. The gel beads contain alginate polymer as the matrix and MNP-decorated cellulose nanofibres (CNF) as the reinforcing agent. The MNPs within the gel provide active adsorption functionality, while CNF provide a good stress transfer phenomenon when the beads are under compressive stress. Their adsorption performance is evaluated in a red mud solution for pollutant adsorption. Composite gel beads have shown high performance in adsorbing metal (aluminium, potassium, selenium, sodium, and vanadium) and non-metal (sulphur) contaminations. This novel hybrid hydrogel could be a promising alternative to the conventionally used toxic adsorbent, providing environmentally friendly operational benefits.

Background: Chronic neck pain is a prevalent condition adversely impacting patients' wellbeing in both life and work experience. Electro-thumbtack needle (ETN) therapy, combining acupuncture with transcutaneous stimulation, might be one of the effective complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies in treating chronic neck pain, although the evidence is scarce. This study aims to estimate the efficacy and safety of ETN therapy for chronic neck pain. Methods and Analysis: This is a sham-controlled, randomized clinical trial. A total of 180 subjects will be randomly allocated to either the ETN group or the sham ETN group. Treatment will be administrated three times a week for four consecutive weeks, with a 6-month follow-up. The primary outcome measure will be the Numerical Rating Scale for neck pain (NRS-NP) over a period of the 4 weeks. Secondary outcome measures include the Northwick Park Neck Pain Questionnaire (NPQ), Neck Disability Index (NDI), Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIC), patient expectation, and preference assessment. The chi-square test or Fisher's exact test will be used for proportions of participants having clinically meaningful improvement. Analysis of covariance or repeated-measures analysis of variance will be applied to examine changes in the outcome measures from baseline. Discussions: This prospective trial will contribute to evaluating the efficacy and safety of ETN in the treatment of chronic neck pain, with an intermediate-term follow-up. This study will provide further evidence for clinical neck pain management. Ethics and Dissemination: This trial has been approved by the Research Ethical Committee of Guang'anmen Hospital (ethical approval number: 2021-039-KY-01). Recruitment began in March 2022 and will continue until December 2023. Dissemination plans include posters, WeChat, websites, and bulletin boards in hospital and communities. Clinical Trial Registration: This trial is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (identifier: NCT04981171).

Background: Macrolides have been widely used to treat moderate-to-severe acne for more than 50 years. However, the prevalent antibiotic resistance of Propionibacterium acnes, along with the absence of clinically available resistance tests, has made macrolide misuse a frequent occurrence around the globe, with serious consequences. Objective: We developed Cutibacterium acnes quantitative PCR (qPCR)-based antibiotics resistance assay (ACQUIRE) to enable fast and accurate detection of C. acnes macrolide resistance in clinical settings, representing an opportunity to administer antibiotics more wisely and improve the quality of care. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study (n = 915) was conducted to probe into the macrolide resistance of C. acnes in patients with acne. Results: The high sensitivity of ACQUIRE enabled us to reveal a much higher C. acnes 23S recombinant DNA (rDNA) point mutation rate (52%) and thus a higher macrolide resistance (75.5%) compared to previous reports. Carriage of ermX gene was discovered on 472 (53%) subjects, which concurs with previous studies. Conclusion: The macrolide resistance of C. acnes is much higher than previously reported. Integrating ACQUIRE into acne treatment modalities may eliminate macrolide misuse and achieve better clinical improvements.

Lonicera japonica is not only an important resource of traditional Chinese medicine, but also has very high horticultural value. Studies have been performed on the physiological responses of L. japonica leaves to chilling, however, the molecular mechanism underlying the low temperature-induced leaves morphological changes remains unclear. In this study, it has been demonstrated that the ratio of pigments content including anthocyanins, chlorophylls, and carotenoids was significantly altered in response to chilling condition, resulting in the color transformation of leaves from green to purple. Transcriptomic analysis showed there were 10,329 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) co-expressed during chilling stress. DEGs were mainly mapped to secondary metabolism, cell wall, and minor carbohydrate. The upregulated genes (UGs) were mainly enriched in protein metabolism, transport, and signaling, while UGs in secondary metabolism were mainly involved in phenylpropaoids-flavonoids pathway (PFP) and carotenoids pathway (CP). Protein-protein interaction analysis illustrated that 21 interacted genes including CAX3, NHX2, ACA8, and ACA9 were enriched in calcium transport/potassium ion transport. BR biosynthesis pathway related genes and BR insensitive (BRI) were collectively induced by chilling stress. Furthermore, the expression of genes involved in anthocyanins and CPs as well as the content of chlorogenic acid (CGA) and luteoloside were increased in leaves of L. japonica under stress. Taken together, these results indicate that the activation of PFP and CP in leaves of L. japonica under chilling stress, largely attributed to the elevation of calcium homeostasis and stimulation of BR signaling, which then regulated the PFP/CP related transcription factors.

Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is an intricate condition with multiple etiologies that lead to indefinite pain mechanisms. Physicians and researchers are challenged in its treatment, and the combined therapy of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment has been recognized as a multidisciplinary approach cited by guidelines and adopted in clinical practice. As an alternative therapy for CPP, non-pharmacologic therapies benefit patients and deserve further study. This study reviews the literature published from January 1991 to April 2022 on non-pharmacologic therapies for CPP in adult women. Based on a survey, this review found that the most commonly used non-pharmacological therapies for CPP include pelvic floor physical therapy, psychotherapy, acupuncture, neuromodulation, and dietary therapy. By evaluating the efficacy and safety of each therapy, this study concluded that non-pharmacological therapies should be included in the initial treatment plan because of their high degree of safety and low rate of side effects. To fill the lack of data on non-pharmacologic therapies for CPP, this study provides evidence that may guide treatment and pain management.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the attitude of students at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine toward organ transplantation and donation after cardiac death (DCD). MATERIAL AND METHODS: A questionnaire including 16 single-choice questions about organ transplantation and donation was designed, and a survey was conducted using this questionnaire on 300 randomly selected respondents at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai, China. RESULTS: The ratio of male to female was 1:2.4. Of the participants, 98.1% had heard of organ transplantation, and 68.2% had received the information through network news. Only 10.6% expressed a positive attitude toward organ transplantation in China. Further, 39.8% of the participants were willing to donate their organs after death, while 51.9% of the participants hesitated because of perceived opacity in how donated organs were used. Even among those who did not share this concern, only 46.2% considered it. However, 80.7% were in favor of organ donation between relatives. Separately, 67.4% and 60.2% of the participants were interested in participating in activities and publicity related to organ donation, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: A majority of the participants had an understanding of organ transplantation and had obtained this information through media. Most showed a positive attitude toward donation between relatives, but only some of them indicated willingness to donate their organs. Generally, acceptance and awareness of organ transplantation need to be improved. Media outreach and education might have a profound influence.

To explore the regularity of traditional Chinese patent medicines for the treatment of hyperlipidemia recorded in Newly Edited National Chinese Traditional Patent Medicines,the Composition Principles of Chinese Patent Drugs,New Drug Conversion Standard,the Compilation of National Standard for Traditional Chinese Medicines and Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Researchers extracted the information of prescriptions from these cases according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then microsoft excel 2010 was used to conduct frequency statistics and count the frequency of traditional Chinese medicine. SPSS Clementine( ver.12. 0) and SPSS( ver. 18. 0)were adopted respectively for frequency analysis,association rules analysis,cluster analysis and factor analysis. Besides,KMO test and Bartlett spherical test were performed for factor adaptation test. Finally,a total of 173 traditional Chinese medicines were included,involving 94 Chinese patent medicine prescriptions. The frequency results of traditional Chinese medicine showed that there were 33 kinds of high-frequency traditional Chinese medicine,mainly including those for tonifying medicine,activating blood and resolving stasis and blood-stasis,and clearing damp. The association rules analysis found out 12 association rules of drug pairs,3-herb pairs of 25 and4-herb pairs of 6. Totally 11 medicine groups with relevance were respectively extracted by cluster analysis. KMO test and Bartlett spherical test indicated that the method was suitable for factor analysis and 11 common factors were respectively extracted by factor analysis. The association rules reflected the therapeutic method for tonify the liver and kidney,activating blood and resolving stasis. Cluster analysis and factor analysis showed the therapeutic method of Qi-enriching and Yin-nourishing,and the factor analysis focused more on removing blood stasis and dampness. The decision tree with hawthorn as the dependent variable reflects the importance of alisma orientalis and fructus schisandrae in the drug matching. In conclusion,data mining technique can comprehensively analyze the regularity of prescriptions of traditional Chinese patent medicine for hyperlipidemia,and is helpful for guiding the development of Chinese patent medicines and the clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine.

An improved method to screen 52 pesticide residues in flavored tea using QuEChERS coupled with liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-Q-TOF-MS) has been investigated. The flavored tea was extracted with acetonitrile and purified using by primary secondary amine (PSA), graphitized carbon black (GCB) and C18 sorbent. The resultant residues were then analyzed using LC-Q-TOF-MS. The recoveries of all the pesticides in flavored tea at the four spiked levels of 10, 20, 50 and 100 µg/kg were 70%-120% and the relative standard deviations (RSDs, n=3) were less than 20%. The calibration curves of the 52 pesticide residues had good linear relationships, and the correlation coefficients were more than 0. 99. The screening detection limits (SDLs) and the limits of quantitation (LOQs) for the 52 pesticides were in the range of 0.001-0.01 mg/kg and 0.002-0.02 mg/kg, respectively, which were lower than maximum residue limits standard permitted by the European Union (EU). This method is simple, rapid, reliable, and can meet the requirements for the simultaneous determination of 52 pesticide residues in flavored tea.

Loss of expression of context-specific tumor suppressors is a critical event that facilitates the development of prostate cancer. Zinc finger and BTB domain containing transcriptional repressors, such as ZBTB7A and ZBTB16, have been recently identified as tumor suppressors that play important roles in preventing prostate cancer progression. In this study, we used combined ChIP-seq and RNA-seq analyses of prostate cancer cells to identify direct ZBTB7A-repressed genes, which are enriched for transcriptional targets of E2F, and identified that the androgen receptor (AR) played a critical role in the transcriptional suppression of these E2F targets. AR recruitment of the retinoblastoma protein (Rb) was required to strengthen the E2F-Rb transcriptional repression complex. In addition, ZBTB7A was rapidly recruited to the E2F-Rb binding sites by AR and negatively regulated the transcriptional activity of E2F1 on DNA replication genes. Finally, ZBTB7A suppressed the growth of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) in vitro and in vivo, and overexpression of ZBTB7A acted in synergy with high-dose testosterone treatment to effectively prevent the recurrence of CRPC. Overall, this study provides novel molecular insights of the role of ZBTB7A in CRPC cells and demonstrates globally its critical role in mediating the transcriptional repression activity of AR. SIGNIFICANCE: ZBTB7A is recruited to the E2F-Rb binding sites by AR and negatively regulates the transcriptional activity of E2F1 on DNA replication genes.

BACKGROUND: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by recurrent attacks of breathlessness and wheezing, which often worsen at night or in the early morning and vary from person to person in severity and frequency. Sanao decoction (SAD), as a traditional Chinese medicine compound, has a long history of clinical application in the treatment of respiratory diseases. Whereas neither systematic nor meta-analysis of randomized controlled articles explain the efficacy of SAD in treating asthma. Therefore, we provide a protocol to evaluate the efficacy and safety of SAD for asthma. METHODS: From the beginning to December 2018, the following electronic databases will be searched for studies in English or Chinese: the Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, the Chinese Scientific Journal Database, and the Wanfang Database. Total effective rate, peak expiratory flow (PEF), forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), and FEV1/FVC will be measured as primary outcomes. Meta-analysis will be performed using the Stata 15. RESULTS: This study will provide the current evidence of asthma treated with SAD from the several points including PEF, FEV1, FVC, and FEV1/FVC. CONCLUSION: The consequence of this summary will furnish proof to evaluate if SAD is effective in the treatment of asthma. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: PROSPERO CRD42018117923.

RESUMEN

Epigenetic modifications play central roles in cellular differentiation and their deregulations really contribute to tumor development. Histone deacetylase (HDAC) enzymes can exert their functions in the epigenetic regulation of gene expression related to oncogenesis via deacetylating the lysine residues of histones in the chromatin and various non-histone proteins. A majority of HDAC inhibitors (HDACIs) have been in different stages of preclinical and clinical trials with potent anticancer activity recently. Among these agents, chidamide tested as either monotherapeutic agent or in combination regimens for numerous hematological and solid malignancies has shown promising potential as an orally active subtype-selective HDACI. Herein we will highlight the progress of clinical trials of chidamide and rationally analyze those results from both preclinical and clinical studies about chidamide as an epigenetic modulator in cancer therapy.

Infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) infects salmonid fish, resulting in high mortality and serious economic losses to salmonid aquaculture. Therefore, an effective IHNV vaccine is urgently needed. To select an inactivation agent for the preparation of an effective IHNV vaccine, rainbow trout were immunized with mineral oil emulsions of IHNV vaccines inactivated by formaldehyde, binary ethylenimine (BEI), or ß-propiolactone (BPL). The fish were challenged 8 weeks after vaccination, and their IgM antibody response and relative percent survival (RPS) were evaluated. The results show that formaldehyde, BEI, and BPL abolished IHNV HLJ-09 infectivity within 24, 48, and 24 h at final concentrations of 0.2%, 0.02%, and 0.01%, respectively. The mean levels of specific IgM, both in serum and mucus (collected from the skin surface and gills), for the three immunized groups (from high to low) ranked as follows: the BPL group, BEI group, and formaldehyde group. From weeks 5 to 9, the mean log2 serum titers of IgM in the BPL group were significantly higher compared with those of the other groups (p < 0.05) during the 9 weeks of observation after vaccination (immunized at weeks 0 and6). Mucus OD490 values of the BPL group were significantly higher compared with those of the other groups (p < 0.05) when reaching their peak at weeks 5 and 8, but the difference between the formaldehyde and BEI groups was not significant (p > 0.05). The BPL-inactivated whole-virus vaccine had the greatest protective effect on the rainbow trout after challenge by an intraperitoneal injection of live IHNV, with an RPS rate of 91.67%, which was significantly higher compared with the BEI (83.33%) and formaldehyde (79.17%) groups. These results indicate that the BPL-inactivated IHNV oil-adjuvant vaccine was more effective than the formaldehyde- or BEI-inactivated vaccines. The results of this study provide an important foundation for further studies on inactivated IHNV vaccines.

Dynamic epigenetic reprogramming occurs during normal embryonic development at the preimplantation stage. Erroneous epigenetic modifications due to environmental perturbations such as manipulation and culture of embryos during in vitro fertilization (IVF) are linked to various short- or long-term consequences. Among these, the skewed sex ratio, an indicator of reproductive hazards, was reported in bovine and porcine embryos and even human IVF newborns. However, since the first case of sex skewing reported in 1991, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We reported herein that sex ratio is skewed in mouse IVF offspring, and this was a result of female-biased peri-implantation developmental defects that were originated from impaired imprinted X chromosome inactivation (iXCI) through reduced ring finger protein 12 (Rnf12)/X-inactive specific transcript (Xist) expression. Compensation of impaired iXCI by overexpression of Rnf12 to up-regulate Xist significantly rescued female-biased developmental defects and corrected sex ratio in IVF offspring. Moreover, supplementation of an epigenetic modulator retinoic acid in embryo culture medium up-regulated Rnf12/Xist expression, improved iXCI, and successfully redeemed the skewed sex ratio to nearly 50% in mouse IVF offspring. Thus, our data show that iXCI is one of the major epigenetic barriers for the developmental competence of female embryos during preimplantation stage, and targeting erroneous epigenetic modifications may provide a potential approach for preventing IVF-associated complications.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Yiguanjian (YGJ) cataplasm on the development of opioid dependence in a mouse model of naloxone-induced opioid withdrawal syndrome. METHODS: One hundred Swiss albino mice, of equal male to female ratio, were randomly and equally divided into 10 groups. A portion (3 cm2) of the backside hair of the mice was removed 1 day prior to the experiment. Morphine (5 mg/kg) was intraperitoneally administered twice daily for 5 days. YGJ cataplasm was prepared and pasted on the bare region of the mice immediately before morphine administration on day 3 and subsequently removed at the end day 5. On day 6, naloxone (8 mg/kg) was intraperitoneally injected to precipitate opioid withdrawal syndrome. Behavioral observation was performed in two 30-min phases immediately after naloxone injection. RESULTS: The YGJ cataplasm significantly and dose-dependently attenuated morphine-naloxone- induced experimental opioid withdrawal, in terms of withdrawal severity score and the frequencies of jumping, rearing, forepaw licking, and circling behaviors. However, YGJ cataplasm treatment did not alter the acute analgesic effect of morphine. CONCLUSION: YGJ cataplasm could attenuate opioid dependence and its associated withdrawal symptoms. Therefore, YGJ cataplasm could serve as a potential therapy for opioid addiction in the future.
