BACKGROUND: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), the most common method in treating coronary artery disease (CAD), has a variety of side effects. Yiqi Huoxue therapy (YQHX) can effectively alleviate the symptoms of patients and reduce the side effects. However, a reliable and systematic assessment of the methodologies is not available. METHODS: Seven electronic databases were searched to identify randomized controlled trials of YQHX method for CAD after PCI. The quality assessment of the trials included was performed by employing the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. RESULTS: One thousand eight hundred sixty-eight patients from 23 randomized controlled trials were included in this review. The aggregated results showed that the experimental group got better effect in increasing ORR, TCMSRR, ECG, HDL-C, and in lowering the level of CRP, TC, and MACE in comparison with the control group. CONCLUSION: YQHX method is a valid complementary and alternative therapy in the management of CAD after PCI, and is an effective and safe therapy for CAD.

In this paper, the kinetics and thermodynamics of Adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP) sorption on the sediments obtained from the Yangtze River Estuary and adjacent areas were studied, in combination with the effects of the sediments' properties and media conditions. The kinetics curves could be described by a two-compartment first-order equation, and the equilibrium isotherms fitted well with the modified Langmuir and Freundlich models. The analysis of organic phosphorus (OP) fractions changes after sorption indicated that the contents of exchangeable or loosely sorbed PO increased most significantly. Higher organic matter (OM) of the sediments were favorable for the sorption ability. It was also found that the content of OP and OM in the sediments showed an obvious positive correlation, indicating that organic matter rather than Fe/Al oxides played an important role in the migration of OP in the Yangtze River estuary and its adjacent area. Temperature, salinity and pH of the media influenced the sorption of AMP significantly. Increase of temperature was of benefit to the sorption of AMP, which was a spontaneous and exothermic process according to the calculations of the thermodynamic parameters. The sorption capacity was higher at a moderate salinity in the range of our study. With the pH changing from 3 to 10, the sorption capacity exhibited as a "U-trend" curve.

RESUMEN

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Centipeda minima (L.) A. Braun et Aschers (Compositae) has been characterized by Illumina pair-end sequencing. The chloroplast genome is 152,351 bp in length, including a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 25,004 bp (12.1%) and a large single copy (LSC) and a small single copy (SSC) region of 83,972 bp (55.1%) and 18,371 bp (32.8%), respectively. The chloroplast genome includes 127 genes, which contain 83 protein-coding genes, 36 transfer RNA genes, and 8 ribosomal RNA genes. The nucleotide composition is asymmetric (31.1% A, 18.5% C, 19.0% G, 31.4% T). The overall GC content of C. minima chloroplast genome is 37.5%. Phylogenetic analysis illustrates that C. minima is closely related to other Asteraceae species, including Helianthus annuus subsp. texanus, Tithonia diversifolia and Xanthium sibiricum with a strong bootstrap value of 100.

Assessing residual consciousness and cognitive abilities in unresponsive patients is a major clinical concern and a challenge for cognitive neuroscience. Although neuroimaging studies have demonstrated a potential for informing diagnosis and prognosis in unresponsive patients, these methods involve sophisticated brain imaging technologies, which limit their clinical application. In this study, we adopted a new language paradigm that elicited rhythmic brain responses tracking the single-word, phrase and sentence rhythms in speech, to examine whether bedside electroencephalography (EEG) recordings can help inform diagnosis and prognosis. EEG-derived neural signals, including both speech-tracking responses and temporal dynamics of global brain states, were associated with behavioral diagnosis of consciousness. Crucially, multiple EEG measures in the language paradigm were robust to predict future outcomes in individual patients. Thus, EEG-based language assessment provides a new and reliable approach to objectively characterize and predict states of consciousness and to longitudinally track individual patients' language processing abilities at the bedside.

Solid-phase speciation and porewater chemistry measured by the diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) technique were used to understand the diagenesis of sulfur (S), iron (Fe), and phosphorus (P) in sediments of Jiaozhou Bay (China), which has been impacted by multiple anthropogenic perturbations. Despite water eutrophication, sediments of the bay are low in organic carbon and sulfide, but high in unsulfidized Fe(II). Dissimilatory iron reduction (DIR) prevails in sediments of the bay, and there is no evidence for responses of S and Fe diagenesis to the water eutrophication, which is largely attributable to unique depositional and diagenetic regimes in association with multiple anthropogenic perturbations. Good coupling of porewater Fe2+ and P in the porewaters suggests that P mobilization is driven mainly by DIR. Low Fe2+/P ratios in porewaters imply that oxidative regeneration of Fe oxides within the upper sediments is incapable of efficiently scavenging upward diffusing P.

The sorption behavior of phosphorus onto sediment was investigated with the addition of BC derived from incomplete biomass combustion (PC). The sorption kinetic curves of phosphorus onto PC and sediment could be described by a two-compartment first order equation, and the sorption isotherms fit the Freundlich model well. With increasing amounts of PC added, the sorption capacity increased while the HI did not change much. The distribution of phosphorus forms showed that CaP (ACa-P plus DAP) constituted the highest fraction in the sediment samples. Throughout the sorption process, CaP and OP changed very little, but the Ex-P and FeP increased obviously, and the presence of PC made this increase more significantly. The high specific area and the presence of iron and aluminum, as well as the modification of the sediments surface properties, make the addition of PC be favorable for the sorption of phosphorus onto sediments.

Dissolved sulfide, iron (Fe), and phosphorus (P) concentrations in sediments of the East China Sea were simultaneously measured in situ by diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) technique. The results, by combination with solid-phase Fe speciation, were used to characterize the interplays of Fe, S and P. Diverse distributions of dissolved sulfide among the sites are attributable to highly dynamic diagenetic regimes and varying availability of labile organic carbon (OC). The DGT technique provided high-resolution evidence for coexistence of microbial iron reduction (MIR) and sulfate reduction in localized zones, and for Fe-coupled P mobilization. Measured Fe2+/P ratios suggest that Fe2+ reoxidatiion at the oxic zones can serve as an efficient scavenger of P. Empirical estimation indicates that MIR plays an important role in anaerobic OC mineralization in the sediments, which is a combined result of low availability of labile OC, high reactive Fe content, and unsteady diagenetic regimes.

Kinetic curves and isotherms were investigated to study the sorption mechanism of phosphorus onto the sediments of Sanggou Bay, together with the surface charge properties of sediments and the forms of phosphorus studied. The results showed that the sorption including a fast process and a slow one, and could be described by a two-compartment first order equation. The thermodynamic isotherms were well fitted with a modified Langmuir equation. The maximum adsorption capacity was larger in summer than in spring, and the smaller particle size was favorable to the sorption. The maximum adsorption capacities (Qm) were 0.0471-0.1230 mg x g(-1), and the zero equilibrium phosphorus concentration (EPC0) of the sediments ranged from 0.0596 mg x L(-1) to 0.1927 mg x L(-1), which indicated that the sediments from Sanggou Bay were sources of phosphorus. Inorganic phosphorus (IP) was the main form of total phosphorus (TP). The contents of exchangeable or loosely absorbed P and Fe-bound P increased significantly in the samples after sorption. The sorption process involved physical sorption and chemical sorption, with the former being the predominant.

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To assess the effect of Qingfei Quyu Decoction (QQD) in preventing radiation pneumonitis in esophageal carcinoma patients by concurrent using it with chemoradiotherapy.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A total of 120 patients with mid-late stage esophageal carcinoma were randomly assigned to the treatment group (60 cases) and the control group (60 cases). All patients received concurrent radiochemotherapy. Patients in the treatment group additionally took QQD, one dose per day for 8 successive weeks. The incidence of radiation pneunonitis was compared between the two groups. The improvement rates of short-term benefit rate, Karnofsky performance scale (KPS), and body weight (BW) improvement rate were calculated between the two groups. The 1-and 2-year overall survival rates were compared between the two groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The incidence of radiation pneunonitis was 8.93% (15/56) in the treatment group and 18.64% (11/59) in the control group (P < 0.05). The short-term benefit rate was 92.86% (52/56) in the treatment group and 69.49% (41/59) in the control group (P < 0.05). Besides, the KPS and BW improvement rate were higher in the treatment group [89.29% (50/56) and 83.05% (49/59) ] than in the control group [80.36% (45/56) and 66.10% (39/59)] (P < 0.05). The 1-and 2-year overall survival rate were 66.07% and 35.71% in the treatment group, higher than those of the control group (61.02% and 30.51%; P > 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Concurrent using QQD with chemoradiotherapy for treating esophageal carcinoma patients could lower the incidence of radiation pneumonitis, attenuate the degree of radiation induced lung injury, improve clinical benefit rate, and elevate their QOL.</p>

RESUMEN

Sorption behavior of heavy oil onto Jiaozhou Bay sediment in the presence of anionic surfactant sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS) in artificial seawater was studied. Batch method was used to investigate the kinetic and thermodynamic behaviors. The results showed that the sorption rate and sorption capacity increased with the increasing initial concentration of SDBS. The sorption rate equations could be described by the pseudo-second-order model. The sorption isotherms were in good agreement with the Freundlich model. Higher salinity and lower temperature of the medium were favorable to the process. In the temperature range of 283-308K, the values of thermodynamic parameters were estimated, such as the deltaG(theta), deltaH(theta), deltaS(theta) which had significantly negative values in the presence of SDBS than those without SDBS. The sorption process was a spontaneous and exothermic reaction, and the randomness was decreased during the process.

OBJECTIVE: To assay the expression of KiSS-1 and GnRH in the male rat hypothalamus at different developmental stages, and to explore the significance of KiSS-1 in sex development onset and normal reproduction regulation. METHODS: Expression analyses of KiSS-1 and GnRH genes were conducted in the rat hypothalamus at different developmental stages with RT-PCR and real time-PCR. The testosterone level was assayed by chemoluminescence technique. RESULTS: KiSS-1 mRNA rose gradually during sex development in the rat hypothalamus, highest at puberty and lowered a little at adulthood. KiSS-1 mRNA of the prepubertal, early pubertal, pubertal and adult rats was 1.7, 2.1, 3.5 and 2.0 times higher than that of the infantile rats respectively. The expression of GnRH and KiSS-1 correlated positively (r = 0.905, P < 0.05). But the activation of GnRH neuron was later than KiSS-1. The expression of GnRH was the highest in the puberty rats. GnRH mRNA of the prepubertal, early pubertal, pubertal and adult rats was 1.1, 1.94, 2.42 and 1.92 times higher than that of the infantile rats respectively. The level of testosterone in the adult rats was significantly higher than that at the earlier stage and was the highest at the adult stage. CONCLUSION: The expression of KiSS-1 correlates positively with that of GnRH. KiSS-1 may participate in the regulation of GnRH and is relevant to puberty onset and the regulation of reproduction function.
