RESUMEN

Objective: This study was to investigate the mechanism of action and clinical efficacy of fire-needle therapy in improving neurological function in patients with acute cerebral infarction (identified as a wind-phlegm-blood stasis syndrome in traditional Chinese medicine). Methods: We included patients diagnosed with acute cerebral infarction (wind-phlegm-blood stasis syndrome) admitted to the Encephalopathy and Acupuncture Center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Chinese Medicine. We randomly allocated them into the treatment and control groups, with 45 cases in each group. Acupuncture treatments that focused on regulating the mind and dredging the collaterals were used in the control group, while the treatment group additionally received fire-needle therapy. Our indicators included the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores, the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) scale, peripheral blood tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-17 (IL-17), hypersensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and intestinal metabolites short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). We measured these indicators before treatment and 14 days after treatment. Results: The post-treatment NIHSS scores of the two groups were significantly reduced (P < 0.05), and the treatment group showed a more significant decline in the score when compared to the control group (P < 0.05). The treatment group showing significant improvement in the domains of reflex activity, mobility, cooperative movement, and finger movement (P < 0.05). Both groups showed a significant decrease in the IL-17 and hs-CRP levels (P < 0.05), with the treatment group demonstrating a significant declining trend when compared to the control group (P < 0.05). The levels of acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, and valeric acid all increased significantly in the two groups (P < 0.05), with acetic acid and butyric acid increasing significantly in the treatment group when compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Clinical efficacy rate: 78.6% of patients in the treatment group had an excellent rate, whereas it was 30.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Fire-needle therapy was effective in upregulating the SCFA content in patients with acute cerebral infarction (wind-phlegm-blood stasis syndrome), inhibiting the level of the inflammatory response, and improving the recovery of neurological functions. RESUMEN

Background/aim: Hypertensive nephropathy (HN) is a common complication of hypertension. Traditional Chinese medicine has long been used in the clinical treatment of Hypertensive nephropathy. However, botanical drug prescriptions have not been summarized. The purpose of this study is to develop a prescription for improving hypertensive nephropathy, explore the evidence related to clinical application of the prescription, and verify its molecular mechanism of action. Methods: In this study, based on the electronic medical record data on Hypertensive nephropathy, the core botanical drugs and patients' symptoms were mined using the hierarchical network extraction and fast unfolding algorithm, and the protein interaction network between botanical drugs and Hypertensive nephropathy was established. The K-nearest neighbors (KNN) model was used to analyze the clinical and biological characteristics of botanical drug compounds to determine the effective compounds. Hierarchical clustering was used to screen for effective botanical drugs. The clinical efficacy of botanical drugs was verified by a retrospective cohort. Animal experiments were performed at the target and pathway levels to analyze the mechanism. Results: A total of 14 botanical drugs and five symptom communities were obtained from real-world clinical data. In total, 76 effective compounds were obtained using the K-nearest neighbors model, and seven botanical drugs were identified as Gao Shen Formula by hierarchical clustering. Compared with the classical model, the Area under the curve (AUC) value of the K-nearest neighbors model was the best; retrospective cohort verification showed that Gao Shen Formula reduced serum creatinine levels and Chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage [OR = 2.561, 95% CI (1.025-6.406), p < 0.05]. With respect to target and pathway enrichment, Gao Shen Formula acts on inflammatory factors such as TNF-α, IL-1ß, and IL-6 and regulates the NF-κB signaling pathway and downstream glucose and lipid metabolic pathways. Conclusion: In the retrospective cohort, we observed that the clinical application of Gao Shen Formula alleviates the decrease in renal function in patients with hypertensive nephropathy. It is speculated that Gao Shen Formula acts by reducing inflammatory reactions, inhibiting renal damage caused by excessive activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, and regulating energy metabolism.

RESUMEN

Successfully treating bone infections is a major orthopedic challenge. Clinically, oral, intravenous, or intramuscular injections of drugs are usually used for direct or complementary treatment. However, once the drug enters the system, it circulates throughout the body, leading to an insufficient local dose and limiting the therapeutic effect because of the lack of targeting in the drug system. In this study, ß-cyclodextrin, modified with poly (ethylene glycol) [PEG] and aspartic acid hexapeptide (Asp6-ß-CD), was used to specifically target the hydroxyapatite (HA) component of the bone. It was then loaded with norfloxacin (NFX) to treat bone infections. The antibacterial ability of NFX was enhanced by loading it into Asp6-ß-CD, because the solubility of Asp6-ß-CD@NFX increased significantly. Moreover, Asp6-ß-CD could target bone tissue in nude mice and showed significantly enhanced accumulation (10 times) than the unmodified ß-CD. In addition, in a rat model of osteomyelitis, Asp6-ß-CD@NFX targeted HA well and exerted its antibacterial activity, which reduced inflammation and promoted bone tissue repair. This study indicates that the Asp6-ß-CD based drug delivery system can efficiently target bone tissue to enable potential applications for treating bone-related diseases.

RESUMEN

Cryptorchidism-caused adult infertility is a common component of idiopathic reasons for male infertility. Retinoic acid (RA) has a vital effect on the spermatogenesis process. Here, we found that the expression of c-Kit, Stra8, and Sycp3 could be up-regulated via the activation of retinoic acid receptor α (RARα) after RA supplementation in neonatal cryptorchid infertile rats. We also demonstrated that the protein expression of PI3K, p-Akt/pan-Akt, and p-mTOR/mTOR was higher in cryptorchid than in normal testes, and could be suppressed with RA in vivo. After RA treatment in infertile cryptorchid testis in vivo, the levels of the autophagy proteins LC3 and Beclin1 increased and those of P62 decreased. Biotin tracer indicated that the permeability of blood-testis barrier (BTB) in cryptorchid rats decreased after RA administration. Additionally, after blocking the RARα with AR7 (an RARα antagonist) in testicle culture in vitro, we observed that compared with normal testes, the PI3K-Akt-mTOR signaling pathway and the autophagy pathway was increased and decreased, respectively, which were coincident with cryptorchisd testes in vivo. Additionally, the appropriate concentrations of RA treatment could depress the PI3K-Akt-mTOR signaling pathway and improve the autophagy pathway. The results confirmed that RA can rehabilitate BTB function and drive key protein levels in spermatogonial differentiation through depressing the PI3K-Akt-mTOR signaling pathway via RARα.

RESUMEN

One new sesquineolignan, piperneolignan A (1), four new neolignans, piperneolignans B-E (2-5), and eight known compounds were isolated from the leaves of Piper betle (Piperaceae) collected from Myanmar. These new structures were determined by analysis of MS and NMR data, and the absolute configuration of piperneolignan A was elucidated by electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Piperneolignan A (1), piperneolignan B (2), hydroxychavicol (6), p-hydroxycinnamaldehyde (10), and diallylcatechol (13) possessed anti-inflammatory activity against nitric oxide (NO) production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells with IC50 values of 9.87, 45.94, 4.80, 26.40, and 40.45 µM, respectively, compared with the positive control NG-monomethyl-l-arginine (l-NMMA, IC50 = 33.84 µM). The two hydroxy groups in the structure of hydroxychavicol are essential for activity, and dimerization or trimerization of hydroxychavicol decreases activity.

RESUMEN

Indigo naturalis (also known as Qing-dai, or QD), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely used as an anticolitis regimen in the clinical practice of Chinese medicine. However, the precise mechanisms behind its efficacy remain unknown. We investigated the protective effects and associated molecular mechanisms of QD in DSS-induced colitis in mice. We found that QD administration attenuated DSS-induced colon shortening, tissue damage, and the disease activity index during the onset of colitis. Moreover, QD administration significantly suppressed colonic MPO activity and increased the activities of colonic T-SOD, CAT, and GSH-Px, as well the expression of p-AMPK and Nrf-2 in colon tissues of colitic mice. In addition, QD was capable of reducing the colonic Th1 and Th17 cell cytokines, the frequencies of Th1 and Th17 cells, and the phosphorylation of p-STAT1 and p-STAT3 in the mesenteric lymph nodes of colitic mice. An in vitro assay showed that QD significantly suppressed the differentiation of Th1 and Th17 cells. These findings suggest that QD has the potential to alleviate experimental colitis by suppressing colonic oxidative stress and restraining colonic Th1/Th17 responses, which are associated with activating AMPK/Nrf-2 signals and inhibiting STAT1/STAT3 signals, respectively. These findings also support QD as an effective regimen in the treatment of IBD.

RESUMEN

Significant attention has been focused on bone tumor therapy recently. At present, the treatment in clinic typically requires surgical intervention. However, a few tumor cells remain around bone defects after surgery and subsequently proliferate within several days. Thus, fabrication of biomaterials with dual functions of tumor therapy and bone regeneration is significant. Herein, the injectable hydrogel containing cisplatin (DDP) and polydopamine-decorated nano-hydroxyapatite is prepared via Schiff base reaction between the aldehyde groups on oxidized sodium alginate and amino groups on chitosan. The hydrogel exhibits sustained release properties for DDP due to the immobilization of DDP via abundant functional groups on polydopamine (PDA). Additionally, given the intense absorption of PDA in the near-infrared region, the hydrogel exhibits excellent photothermal effects when exposed to the NIR laser (808 nm). Based on the properties, the hydrogel effectively ablates tumor cells (4T1 cells) in vitro and suppresses tumor growth in vivo. Furthermore, the hydrogel promotes the adhesion and proliferation of bone mesenchymal stem cells in vitro due to the abundant functional groups on PDA and further induces bone regeneration in vivo. Therefore, the study extends research on novel biomaterials with dual functions of tumor therapy and bone regeneration.

RESUMEN

We aimed at reporting the chemical constituents and antimicrobial activities of Leea aequata L., a traditional folk medicine used in Myanmar for the treatment of wounds and skin diseases. A new neolignan, (7S,8R)-9'-O-acetylcedrusin (1), a new lactam, (3S,4S)-4-chloro-3-hydroxypiperidin-2-one (2), along with 21 known compounds, including five lignans (3-7), four flavonoid glycosides (8-11), and others (12-23), were isolated from the ethanoic extract of the aerial parts of L. aequata. The structures of the new compounds were determined by NMR, MS, and ECD spectra. For all the antimicrobial tests of the 23 compounds, only 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid ethyl ester (17) showed weak inhibitory activities against Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND & AIMS: The Chinese herbal medicine, MaZiRenWan (MZRW), has been used for more than 2000 years to treat constipation, but it has not been tested in a randomized controlled trial. We performed a trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of MZRW, compared with the stimulant laxative senna or placebo, for patients with functional constipation (FC). METHODS: We performed a double-blind, double-dummy, trial of 291 patients with FC based on Rome III criteria, seen at 8 clinics in Hong Kong from June 2013 through August 2015. Patients were observed for 2 weeks and then assigned randomly (1:1:1) to groups given MZRW (7.5 g, twice daily), senna (15 mg daily), or placebo for 8 weeks. Patients were then followed for 8 weeks and evaluated at baseline and weeks 4, 8 (end of treatment), and 16 (end of follow up). Participants recorded information on stool form and frequency, feeling of complete evacuation, and research medication taken. Data on individual bowel symptoms, global symptom improvement, and adverse events were collected. A complete response was defined as an increase ≥1 complete spontaneous bowel movement (CSBM)/week from baseline (the primary outcome). Secondary outcomes included response during the follow-up period, colonic transit, individual and global symptom assessments, quality of life measured with 36-item short form Chinese version, and adverse events. RESULTS: Although there was no statistically significant difference in proportions of patients with a complete response to MZRW (68%) vs. senna (57.7%) (P = .14) at week 8, there was a statistically significant difference vs. placebo (33.0%) (P < .005). At the 16-week timepoint (after the 8-week follow-up period), 47.4% of patients had a complete response to MZRW, 20.6% had a complete response to senna, and 17.5% had a complete response to placebo (P < .005 for MZRW vs. placebo). The group that received MZRW group also had significant increases in colonic transit and reduced severity of constipation, straining, incomplete evacuation, and global constipation symptoms compared with the groups that received placebo or senna in (P < .05 for all comparisons). CONCLUSIONS: In a randomized controlled trial of 291 patients with FC, we found MZRW to be well-tolerated and effective in increasing CSBM/week. MZRW did not appear to be more effective than senna and might be considered as an alternative to this drug. ClincialTrials.gov no: NCT01695850.

RESUMEN

In a prospective, randomized, three-arms, controlled clinical study, Chinese Herbal Medicine MaZiRenWan (MZRW, also known as Hemp Seed Pill) demonstrates comparable efficacy with Senna for functional constipation (FC) during an 8-week treatment period. Both MZRW and Senna are better than a placebo; relative to Senna and a placebo, MZRW displayed a more sustained effect during the 8-week follow-up period. The characteristic pharmacological mechanism responsible for this observation is still unclear. To explore this, we collected pre- and post-treatment serum samples of 85 FC patients from MZRW/Senna/placebo treatment groups for pharmacometabolomic analysis. An ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer (UPLC-MS) was used for metabolic profiling and quantification. In vivo studies were conducted in constipated C57BL/6J mice to verify the effects and corresponding mechanism(s) of the action of MZRW. Pearson correlation analysis, paired t-test, one-way ANOVA analysis, χ2 test, and Student t-test were used to interpret the clinical and preclinical data. Changes in levels of circulating oleamide and its derivatives negatively correlate with improvement in complete spontaneous bowel movement (CSBM) in the MZRW group (Pearson r = -0.59, p = 0.00057). The same did not hold true for either Senna or placebo groups. Oleamide is a known regulator of intestinal motility. MZRW treatment resulted in reduced levels of circulating oleamide in FC patients. Experimental verification showed that MZRW attenuated oleamide-induced slow intestinal motility in mice. MZRW decreased oleamide levels in serum, ileum, and colon in normal mice, but increased expression of colonic fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH). In conclusion, MZRW improved bowel movement in FC by down-regulating oleamide, possibly by enhancing FAAH-mediated degradation. Our findings suggest a novel therapeutic strategy for FC.

RESUMEN

Lactobacillus fermentum KP-3 was isolated from Korean pickle and used to ferment ginseng. The changes in the minor ginsenosides in the fermented ginseng were analyzed and the material was evaluated in high fat diet-fed mice. Total ginsenosides increased from 0.746 mg g-1 to 0.939 mg g-1 after fermentation, and the levels of minor ginsenosides (Rg2, Rg3, Rh1, Rh2, F2, and Ro) increased from 0.186 mg g-1 to 0.704 mg g-1. In an animal study, the serum TC and LDL levels in the HFD group were significantly higher than those of the control group. Compared with the HFD group, the probiotic-fermented ginseng significantly decreased the serum TC and LDL levels. In addition, the serum and liver ALT and AST levels were dramatically increased in the HFD group, but these increases were significantly inhibited by treatment with the probiotic-fermented ginseng. Furthermore, fermented ginseng reduced high fat diet-induced liver lipid accumulation. Overall, fermentation with L. fermentum KP-3 enhanced minor ginsenosides in ginseng and this probiotic-fermented ginseng ameliorated hyperlipidemia and liver injury induced by a high fat diet.

RESUMEN

Total flavones of Rhododendron simsii Planch flower (TFR) have a significant protective effect against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. However, its mechanism is unclear. This study investigated the protection of TFR against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury via cystathionine-γ-lyase- (CSE-) produced H2S mechanism. CSE-/- mice and CSE-siRNA-transfected rat were used. Relaxation of cerebral basilar artery (CBA), H2S, and CSE mRNA were measured. TFR significantly inhibited cerebral ischemia-reperfusion-induced abnormal neurological symptom and cerebral infarct in the normal rats and the CSE+/+ mice, but not in the CSE-/- mice, and the inhibition was markedly attenuated in CSE-siRNA-transfected rat; TFR elicited a significant vasorelaxation in rat CBA, and the relaxation was markedly attenuated by removal of endothelium or CSE-siRNA transfection or coapplication of NO synthase inhibitor L-NAME and PGI2 synthase inhibitor Indo. CSE inhibitor PPG drastically inhibited TFR-evoked vasodilatation resistant to L-NAME and Indo in endothelium-intact rat CBA. TFR significantly increased CSE mRNA expression in rat CBA endothelial cells and H2S production in rat endothelium-intact CBA. The increase of H2S production resistant to L-NAME and Indo was abolished by PPG. Our data indicate that TFR has a protective effect against the cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury via CSE-produced H2S and endothelial NO and/or PGI2 to relax the cerebral artery.

RESUMEN

Five main flavonoids of Hebei Xiangju were studied using the Density Functional Theory (DFT) B3LYP method with 6-311 G (d) basis set.Their activities were analyzed based on molecular structure, bond dissociation energy (BDE),natural orbital charge distribution (NBO),bond order and the energy gap between HOMO and LUMO. The results showed that the existing of intra molecular hydrogen bond in B ring can improve the antioxidant activity of the flavonoids, at the same time, the hydroxyl groups on the glycosides do not have the activity of eliminating free radicals, but decrease the total molecular antioxidant activity. As a result, the antioxidant ability order of the five flavonoids compounds is luteolin< luteolin-7-O-glucoside< apigenin < acacetin < acacetin-7-O-glucose, which is agreement with the experimental conclusion reported in literature. The results showed that the DFT method can provide theoretical guidance for the selection of natural flavonoid antioxidants.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Bacterially derived factors from the gut play a major role in the activation of inflammatory pathways in the liver and in the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver disease. The intestinal brush-border enzyme intestinal alkaline phosphatase (IAP) detoxifies a variety of bacterial pro-inflammatory factors and also functions to preserve gut barrier function. The aim of this study was to investigate whether oral IAP supplementation could protect against alcohol-induced liver disease. METHODS: Mice underwent acute binge or chronic ethanol exposure to induce alcoholic liver injury and steatosis ± IAP supplementation. Liver tissue was assessed for biochemical, inflammatory, and histopathological changes. An ex vivo co-culture system was used to examine the effects of alcohol and IAP treatment in regard to the activation of hepatic stellate cells and their role in the development of alcoholic liver disease. RESULTS: Pretreatment with IAP resulted in significantly lower serum alanine aminotransferase compared to the ethanol alone group in the acute binge model. IAP treatment attenuated the development of alcohol-induced fatty liver, lowered hepatic pro-inflammatory cytokine and serum LPS levels, and prevented alcohol-induced gut barrier dysfunction. Finally, IAP ameliorated the activation of hepatic stellate cells and prevented their lipogenic effect on hepatocytes. CONCLUSIONS: IAP treatment protected mice from alcohol-induced hepatotoxicity and steatosis. Oral IAP supplementation could represent a novel therapy to prevent alcoholic-related liver disease in humans.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of Zishen Huoxue Recipe (ZHR) on pathomorphology in coronary heart disease (CHD) rats with Shen deficiency blood stasis syndrome (SDBSS). METHODS: Totally 60 healthy Wistar rats were divided into the blank control group, the model group, high, middle, and low dose ZHR groups according to random digit table, 12 in each group. Myocardial ischemia SDBSS rat model was prepared by ligating the left anterior descending coronary artery and injecting hydrocortisone. ZHR physic liquor was administered to rats in high, middle, and low dose ZHR groups at the daily dose of 21.6, 10.8, 5.4 g/kg by gastrogavage for 7 successive days, equal volume of pure water was administered to rats in the blank control group and the model group by gastrogavage for 7 successive days. Rat heart was collected for pathomorphological observation under light microscope. RESULTS: In the model group the heart muscle fiber was swollen and deformed with widened space, loose and dropsy tissues. Blood vessels in myocardial mesenchymal were dilated, infiltrated with more inflammatory cells. Myocardial cells were markedly swollen, degenerated, or necrotic, with caryolysis or disappearance of partial nuclear. A large amount of collagen fibrous tissue became hyperplasia. Endocardial blood vessels were swollen and degenerated with infiltration of few inflammatory cells. Epicardium tissue and structure were destroyed and got hyperplasia. Swollen, degenerated, or necrotic vessels could be seen, with infiltration of more inflammatory cells and collagen deposition. Pathomorphological injuries were alleviated in each ZHR group. The higher ZHR concentration, the milder the injury degree of myocardial tissue, the more limited range of damage. CONCLUSION: ZHR could attenuate pathomorphological injuries of myocardial ischemia rats with SDBSS and regulate myocardial function, thus improving myocardial ischemia in CHD rats with SDBSS.

RESUMEN

Solutions with large-scale dispersions of 2D black phosphorus (BP), often referred to as phosphorene, are obtained through solvent exfoliation. But, rapid phosphorene synthesis remains a challenge. Furthermore, although the chemical sensing capability of BP-based sensors has been theoretically predicted, its experimental verification remains lacking. In this study, we demonstrate the use of supercritical carbon dioxide-assisted rapid synthesis (5h) of few-layer BP. In addition, we construct a non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensor based on few-layer BP for the first time to utilize BP degradation under ambient conditions. The proposed H2O2 sensor exhibits a considerably lower detection limit of 1 × 10(-7) M compared with the general detection limit of 1 × 10(-7) M-5 × 10(-5)M via electrochemical methods. Overall, the results of this study will not only expand the coverage of BP research but will also identify the important sensing characteristics of BP.

RESUMEN

Four new aromatic abietane diterpenoids and two new benzene derivatives, namely perenacidins A-F (1-6), have been isolated from the fruiting bodies of Basidiomycete Perenniporia subacida. The structures were elucidated by means of extensive spectroscopic methods and computational ECD method. The antifungal activities against Canidia albicans and the cytotoxic activities against four cancer cell lines (including K-562, A-549, SMMC-7721, MCF-7) were evaluated in vitro.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of electroacupuncture (EA) therapy on abdominal fat in obese women by using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). METHODS: Thirty abdominal obesity women patients were randomly divided into control group (n=15) and EA group (n=15). The obesity patients of the control group did not receive any treatment for weight reduction, and those of the EA group were treated by EA stimulation of bilateral Neiting (ST 44), Fenglong (ST 40), Zusanli (ST 36), Huaroumen (ST 24), Tianshu (ST 25), Wailing (ST 26), Shuidao (ST 28), Fujie (SP 14), Daheng (SP 13), etc. for 25 min, once every other day, 3 times per week for 3 months. The patient's body weight, height, waist circumference (WC) were mea-sured with different devices, and the body mass index (BMI) was calculated, and the subcutaneous adipose tissue thickness at the inferior edges of L4, L5 and S3 and the superior edge of the pubic symphysis and the total abdominal fat volume between the L4 and S3 levels were detected using MRI systems before and after the treatment. RESULTS: The effects of the EA group were significantly superior to those of the control group in lowering difference values (between pre- and post-treatment) of BMI, WC and subcutaneous adipose tissue thickness at the levels of the inferior edges of L4, L5, S3 and the superior edge of the pubic symphysis(all P<0.01)and in reducing total abdominal fat volume between L4 and S3 (all P<0.01). After the treatment, the subcutaneous adipose tissue thickness at the superior edge of the pubic symphysis (P<0.01) and the total abdominal fat volume between L4 and S3 (P<0.05) were significantly decreased in the EA group compared to pre-treatment. There were no significant differences between post- and pre-treatment in BMI, WC, subcutaneous adipose tissue thickness at the levels of the L4, L5 and S3 in both EA and control groups and in the subcutaneous adipose tissue thickness at the level of the superior edge of the pubic symphysis and the total abdominal fat volume between L4 and S3 in the control group (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: EA intervention can effectively reduce abdominal fat in obese women based on the evaluation of MRI.

RESUMEN

Four main flavonoids of the Chinese medicine Rhododendri Daurici Folium were studied using the density functional theory (DFT) B3LYP method with 6-311 + + G (d, p) basis set.Their activities were analyzed based on molecular structure, bond dissociation energy (BDE) and the energy gap between HOMO and LUMO. As a result, the antioxidant ability order of the four flavonoids compounds is farrerol
