RESUMEN

Silicon nanowire field effect (SiNW-FET) biosensors have been successfully used in the detection of nucleic acids, proteins and other molecules owing to their advantages of ultra-high sensitivity, high specificity, and label-free and immediate response. However, the presence of the Debye shielding effect in semiconductor devices severely reduces their detection sensitivity. In this paper, a three-dimensional stacked silicon nanosheet FET (3D-SiNS-FET) biosensor was studied for the high-sensitivity detection of nucleic acids. Based on the mainstream Gate-All-Around (GAA) fenestration process, a three-dimensional stacked structure with an 8 nm cavity spacing was designed and prepared, allowing modification of probe molecules within the stacked cavities. Furthermore, the advantage of the three-dimensional space can realize the upper and lower complementary detection, which can overcome the Debye shielding effect and realize high-sensitivity Point of Care Testing (POCT) at high ionic strength. The experimental results show that the minimum detection limit for 12-base DNA (4 nM) at 1 × PBS is less than 10 zM, and at a high concentration of 1 µM DNA, the sensitivity of the 3D-SiNS-FET is approximately 10 times higher than that of the planar devices. This indicates that our device provides distinct advantages for detection, showing promise for future biosensor applications in clinical settings.

RESUMEN

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its extensive effects, the incidence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms is rapidly increasing in China. This research aimed to assess the efficacy and acceptability of a mobile application delivering Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in reducing PTSD symptoms. 221 Chinese individuals with elevated PTSD symptoms were randomly assigned to app-delivered ACT (ACT condition), app-delivered mindfulness (MI condition), or a waitlist (WL condition). Assessments were performed pre- and post-intervention. The results showed that participants in both the ACT and MI groups had significantly greater improvements across mental health outcomes compared to the WL group. No significant differences were observed between the ACT and MI groups except for psychological flexibility, which improved more in ACT than MI (d = -0.37). Compared to WL, the ACT group showed a greater improvement in PTSD symptoms (d = -0.79), anxiety (d = -0.62), depression (d = -0.51), posttraumatic growth (d = 0.46), and psychological flexibility (d = 0.76). The drop-out rates in the ACT and MI were 25.76% and 39.71%, respectively. Participants in the ACT condition reported medium program satisfaction. The study suggests app-delivered ACT is efficacious in reducing PTSD symptoms and improving overall mental health among Chinese adults.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study is to investigate the uniqueness of the pop singing genre by determining the role of the Chinese language in the creation of popular singing in education with modern innovative technologies. The paper began by determining which types of popular music were the most popular among respondents and the influence of modern innovative technologies on music education. The results showed that popular folk music (25%) and popular music (23%) are the most popular genres. This is because they are based on improvisational elements and combine modern and ethnic musical elements with the use of modern innovative technologies. Pentatonic preservation (94.3), modern innovative technologies (91.2), expressive performance (85.6), sound fluidity and mobility (82) and instrumental accompaniment have been identified as the most defining characteristics of contemporary Chinese popular music (78.1). Taking into account how pure and expressive Chinese music is, the study found that singing should take into account the following aspects of the Chinese language: the tonality of vowels, the influence of consonant sounds, the use of sound imitations, the performance of words with different levels of complexity, and the relationship between speech and musical intonation. It has been proven that students in group 1 who studied vocals and were taught the rules for combining phonetic features of language when singing had better results in terms of quality performance (0.83) and expressive performance (0.91). The non-professional singers in group 2 attained scores of 0.62 and 0.85, respectively.

RESUMEN

Purpose: Levothyroxine is a common prescribed drug. Many medications and food, however, can interfere with its bioavailability. The aim of this review was to summarize the medications, food and beverages that interact with levothyroxine and to assess their effects, mechanisms and treatments. Methods: A systematic review on interfering substances that interact with levothyroxine was performed. Web of Science, Embase, PubMed, the Cochrane library, grey literature from other sources and the lists of references were searched for human studies comparing the levothyroxine efficacy with and without interfering substances. The patient characteristics, drug classes, effects and mechanism were extracted. The NHLBI study quality assessment tools and the JBI critical appraisal checklist were used to assess the quality of included studies. Results: A total of 107 articles with 128 studies were included. Drugs interactions were revealed in calcium and iron supplements, proton pump inhibitors, bile acid sequestrants, phosphate binders, sex hormones, anticonvulsants and other drugs. Some food and beverage could also induce malabsorption. Proposed mechanisms included direct complexing, alkalization, alteration of serum thyroxine-binding globulin levels and acceleration of levothyroxine catabolism via deiodination. Dose adjustment, administration separation and discontinuation of interfering substances can eliminate the interactions. Liquid solutions and soft-gel capsules could eliminate the malabsorption due to chelation and alkalization. The qualities of most included studies were moderate. Conclusion: Lots of medications and food can impair the bioavailability of levothyroxine. Clinicians, patients and pharmaceutical companies should be aware of the possible interactions. Further well-designed studies are needed to provide more solid evidence on treatment and mechanisms.

RESUMEN

This study aimed at comparing the physicochemical characteristics, α-glucosidase inhibitory effect, and hypoglycemic activity of pectins (N-NOP and H-NOP) from peels of normal and Huanglongbing (HLB)-infected Navel oranges. Results indicated the pectins were high methoxy pectins mainly composed of homogalacturonan and rhamnogalacturonan-I. The pectins exhibited similar functional groups, surface morphology, and particle size, and had no triple-helical conformation in solution. They exerted fat and glucose absorption capacities and were mixed-type noncompetitive α-glucosidase inhibitors with IC50 values of 1.182 and 2.524 mg/ml, respectively. Both N-NOP and H-NOP showed hypoglycemic activity in alloxan-induced diabetic mice. Administration of them could promote the synthesis of hepatic glycogen and/or serum insulin to lower blood glucose levels and enhance antioxidant status to alleviate oxidative stress injury in diabetic mice. Moreover, N-NOP had higher yield, molecular weight, ζ-potential, oil holding capacity, α-glucosidase inhibitory effect and in vivo hypoglycemic activity, whereas H-NOP possessed higher uronic acid, degree of esterification, thermal stability, water holding capacity, swelling capacity, and fat absorption capacity. It could be concluded that some similarities and differences existed between N-NOP and H-NOP in physicochemical characteristics, functional properties, α-glucosidase inhibitory effects, and hypoglycemic activity. This study provides references for the basic research and application of pectins from peels of normal and HLB-infected Navel oranges. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: Pectin has been widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries for several decades due to its health benefit, gelling, thickening, and emulsification performances. Diabetes mellitus is a worldwide concern in recent years. Pectins (N-NOP and H-NOP) from peels of normal and Huanglongbing (HLB)-infected Navel oranges possessed in vitro and in vivo hypoglycemic activities, indicating they were potential anti-antidiabetic substitutes of chemical drugs. Moreover, comparative understanding on the physicochemical characteristic, α-glucosidase inhibitory effect and hypoglycemic activity of pectins from peels of normal and Huanglongbing-infected Navel oranges was conducive to the recycling and utilization of Navel orange peels. Recently, the biological activity of pectin from peels of normal Navel oranges has been rarely reported, and the information on pectin from peels of Huanglongbing-infected Navel orange is rare. This study provides references for the basic research and application of pectins from peels of normal and HLB-infected Navel oranges.

RESUMEN

In this study, a new Fenton system combining electro-Fenton and bio-electro-Fenton (EF-BEF) processes was proposed for ENR degradation and swine wastewater treatment, and pitaya peel-derived carbon modified with sulfidised nanoscale zerovalent iron (SnZVI) was developed as a catalyst for the system. The as-prepared PPC-800 carbon displayed a hierarchical porous structure (693.5 m2/g), abundant oxygen-containing groups, and carbon defects, which endowed it with a good adsorption capacity, high H2O2 generation capacity (151.9 ± 10.5 mg/L) during the EF period, and good power production performance (194.3 ± 12.50 mW/m2) during the BEF period. When modified with SnZVI, despite the decrease in the adsorption capacity and power output (102.05 ± 4.05 mW/m2), the SnZVI@PPC-2 exhibited the best ENR removal performance with that of 98.9 ± 0.2% in the EF period and 86.2 ± 5.6% during the BEF period. An increase in the current intensity and air flow rate promoted ENR degradation. Finally, swine wastewater was treated using the SnZVI@PPC-2 EF-BEF system, and 97.9 ± 1.3% of the TOC was removed using the combined system.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the different pharmacokinetic parameters of the DCE-MRI method on diagnosing and staging of rabbits' liver fibrosis. METHODS: We had performed DCE-MRI for rabbits that had been divided into the experiment group and the control group. Then, rabbits' images were transferred to a work station to get three parameters such as K trans, K ep, and V e, which had been measured to calculate. After data were analyzed, ROC analyses were performed to assess the diagnostic performance of K trans, K ep, and V e to judge liver fibrosis. RESULTS: The distribution of the different liver fibrosis group was as follows: F1, n = 8; F2, n = 9; F3, n = 6; F4, n = 5. No fibrosis was deemed as F0, n = 6. K ep is statistically significant (P < 0.05) for F0 and mild liver fibrosis stage, and the K ep shows AUC of 0.814. Three parameters are statistically significant for F0 and advanced liver fibrosis stage (K trans and K ep, P < 0.01; V e, P < 0.05), and the K trans shows AUC of 0.924; the K ep shows AUC of 0.909; the V e shows AUC of 0.848; K trans and K ep are statistically significant for mild and advanced liver fibrosis stages (K trans, P < 0.01; K ep, P < 0.05), and the K trans shows AUC of 0.840; the K ep shows AUC of 0.765. Both K trans and K ep are negatively correlated with the liver fibrosis stage. V e is positively correlated with the liver fibrosis stage. CONCLUSION: K trans is shown to be the best DCE parameter to distinguish the fibrotic liver from the normal liver and mild and advanced fibrosis. On the contrary, K ep is moderate and V e is worst. And K ep is a good DCE parameter to differentiate mild fibrosis from the normal liver.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for the treatment of post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). METHODS: The Cochrane Library, Embase, Medline, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Science and Technology Periodical (VIP), Wanfang, and Chinese Biological Medicine (CBM) databases were electronically searched from their inception to 10 April 2019. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scale and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scale were used as outcomes to assess effectiveness with respect to cognitive function. Assessment of risk of bias (ROB) and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) assessment were performed by two reviewers independently. Data were analyzed using Review Manager (RevMan) 5.3. RESULTS: A total of 28 trials with 2144 participants were included in the qualitative synthesis and meta-analysis. Four of the 28 trials (14%) were assessed as being at overall low ROB, 24 of the 28 trials (86%) were assessed as having overall high ROB. The quality of evidence for both MoCA and MMSE were deemed to be very low by the GRADE criteria. Results indicated that acupuncture groups may be benefiting more than non-acupuncture groups with respect to variation of MoCA scores (merged mean difference (MMD): 2.66, 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.18 to 3.13, p < 0.00001; heterogeneity: χ2 = 35.52, p = 0.0007, I2 = 63%), and the heterogeneity decreased in both subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis. In addition, acupuncture groups might be benefiting more than non-acupuncture groups in terms of changes in MMSE score (MMD = 2.97, 95% CI = 2.13 to 3.80, p < 0.00001; heterogeneity: χ2 = 269.75; p < 0.00001; I2 = 92%), and the heterogeneity decreased in subgroup analysis. Only one RCT addressed adverse events, and the symptoms were mild and did not affect treatment and evaluation. CONCLUSION: Acupuncture could be effective and safe for PSCI. Nevertheless, the results should be interpreted cautiously due to the high ROB of included trials and very low quality of evidence for assessed outcomes.

RESUMEN

To investigate the effects of the mixing of litters on their remediation efficiency in petroleum-contaminated soil, litters from two common plants in the petroleum-contaminated region of Northern Shaanxi, China, Bothriochloa ischaemum (L.) Keng and Sophora davidii Kom. ex Pavol., and their mixture were mixed with 45 g/kg petroleum-contaminated soil. Based on these, a 150-day simulated remediation experiment was conducted at 25 °C and consistent moisture conditions. The effects on the degradation of petroleum components and the restoration of nutrient contents, pH, and enzymatic activity in the disturbed soil were detected. The effects of the litter treatments on the community structure and carbon source utilization characteristics of soil microorganisms were also studied. The results indicated that all litter treatments significantly accelerated the degradation of petroleum components, while the mixing of litter exhibited significant synergistic effects, leading to significantly higher degradation rates of saturated hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, and nonhydrocarbon substances than the observed rates in the single-litter treatments and the predicted rates based on the single-litter treatments. Litter treatment significantly increased the N and P contents and enzymatic activity of contaminated soil. The effects of mixed litter on soil chemical and biological properties fell between the effects of the 2 types of single-litter treatments. However, the mixing of litters exhibited significant synergistic effects in supplementing available P and increasing sucrase, dehydrogenase, lignin peroxidase, and laccase activity, while it exhibited significant antagonistic effects in supplementing nitrate nitrogen and increasing urease, phosphatase, polyphenol oxidase, and manganese peroxidase activity. Litter treatment significantly altered the community structure of soil microorganisms. The relative abundances of some petroleum-degrading microbial phyla or genera in mixed litter-treated soil were significantly different from those in single litter-treated soils, which might contribute to the strengthened remediation effects of mixed litter treatment. The results might provide a theoretical basis for the more effect utilization of biomass resources in the remediation of petroleum-contaminated soil.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Hemiplegia after stroke is one of the main dysfunctions in stroke patients. Acupuncture had been widely used for poststroke spastic hemiplegia (PSSH), but the efficiency was unclear. This study aimed to examine the efficiency and safety of acupuncture for individuals with PSSH. METHODS: We searched nine databases from their inception to 27th July 2019. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture for the treatment of PSSH met the screening criteria. The quality of methodology was evaluated by Cochrane's risk of bias tool. RevMan 5.3 was used to perform the meta-analysis. The primary outcome was the Fugl-Myer Assessment (FMA) score, and the secondary outcomes were the Ashworth Scale for Spasticity (ASS) and Barthel Index (BI) scores. To evaluated the safety of acupuncture therapy, researchers scanned the full text to collect adverse events. RESULTS: Researchers retrieved 2452 articles in total, after screening, thirty-eight studies with 2628 participants of were included. In this meta-analysis, twenty-seven trials revealed that acupuncture therapy was associated with an increase in FMA scores compared with rehabilitation training (RT) (MD: 8.43, 95% CI, 6.57 to 10.28, p < 0.00001, I2 = 75%). According to the analysis of subgroup of interventions, ten trials showed that manual acupuncture (MA) plus RT was associated with an increase in FMA compared with RT (MD: 10.84, 95% CI, 9.29 to 13.29, p < 0.00001, I2 = 24%), three trials showed that electroacupuncture (EA) plus RT was associated with an improvement in FMA compared with RT (MD: 9.44, 95% CI, 1.00 to 17.88, p = 0.03, I2 = 81%), twelve trials showed that MA was associated with an increase in FMA compared with RT (MD: 5.48, 95% CI, 2.07 to 8.89, p = 0.002, I2 = 74%), and one trials showed that EA was associated with an improvement in FMA compared with RT (MD: 11.35, 95% CI, 5.03 to 17.67, p = 0.0004). According to the analysis of subgroup of treatment duration, four trials used acupuncture therapy for more than 1 month, revealed that acupuncture therapy was associated with an increase in FMA scores compared with RT (MD: 9.24, 95% CI, 0.42 to 18.06, p = 0.04, I2 = 93%). Thirty-two trials used acupuncture therapy for less than or equal to 1 month, revealed that acupuncture therapy was associated with an increase in FMA scores compared with RT (MD: 8.32, 95% CI, 6.56 to 10.09, p < 0.00001, I2 = 61%). Six trials indicated that acupuncture therapy was better than RT in terms of the ASS (MD: 0.46, 95% CI, -0.65 to -0.27, p < 0.00001, I2 = 67%), twenty-four trials indicated that acupuncture therapy was better than RT in terms of the BI scores (MD: 8.32, 95% CI, 5.30 to 11.35, p < 0.00001, I2 = 88%). In general, the methodologies of the RCTs were of poor quality. Two RCTs reported no adverse events, one trial reported five adverse events without severe influence, others did not mention. CONCLUSIONS: This review discovered that acupuncture might be a safe and effective adjuvant therapy for individuals with PSSH. Nevertheless, there were methodological limitations in the included RCTs, and well-designed and large-scale studies should be carried out to confirm our results.

RESUMEN

Cytomembrane-derived nanoplatforms are an effective biomimetic strategy in cancer therapy. To improve their functionality and expandability for enhanced vaccination, a eukaryotic-prokaryotic vesicle (EPV) nanoplatform is designed and constructed by fusing melanoma cytomembrane vesicles (CMVs) and attenuated Salmonella outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). Inheriting the virtues of the parent components, the EPV integrates melanoma antigens with natural adjuvants for robust immunotherapy and can be readily functionalized with complementary therapeutics. In vivo prophylactic testing reveals that the EPV nanoformulation can be utilized as a prevention vaccine to stimulate the immune system and trigger the antitumor immune response, combating tumorigenesis. In the melanoma model, the poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)-indocyanine green (ICG) moiety (PI)-implanted EPV (PI@EPV) in conjunction with localized photothermal therapy with durable immune inhibition shows synergetic antitumor effects as a therapeutic vaccine. The eukaryotic-prokaryotic fusion strategy provides new perspectives for the design of tumor-immunogenic, self-adjuvanting, and expandable vaccine platforms.

RESUMEN

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is a hazardous residue in sulfur-fumigated herbs. Standards limiting SO2 content have been adopted worldwide for quality control of sulfur-fumigated herbs, and herbs with less SO2 are believed to be better. However, the standards are based only on the safe dose of SO2 and may not characterize changes in herbal quality, thereby the efficacy and toxicity, resulting from sulfur fumigation. To confirm this, here the correlation of residual SO2 content with the quality/efficacy/toxicity of sulfur-fumigated herb was investigated, and ginseng was selected as a pilot study object. Four sulfur-fumigated ginseng samples with different SO2 contents were systemically compared regarding their quality, anti-inflammatory, anti-shock and anti-stress efficacies, as well as acute and chronic toxicities. The results demonstrated that the SO2 content did not correlate with the quality, efficacy and toxicity changes of ginseng; more specifically, less SO2 residue did not indicate higher quality, better efficacy nor weaker toxicity. This fact suggests that SO2 content cannot characterize the variations in quality, efficacy and toxicity of sulfur-fumigated herbs. Therefore, the standard limiting SO2 content alone may be inadequate for quality control of sulfur-fumigated herbs, and new standards including other indicators that can exactly reflect herbal efficacy and safety are necessary.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To establish a method for analysis of 6 cyclohexanedione herbicides residues in potatoes by ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray tandem mass spectrometry( UPLC-MS/MS). METHODS: The target compounds in samples were extracted ultrasonically with acetonitrile. After centrifugation, the supernatant was cleaned up with Envi-carb column. The sample solution was separated on an Dionex C_(18) column( 2. 1 mm × 100 mm, 2. 2 µm) with gradient elution using acetonitrile -5 mmol/L ammonium acetate and 0. 1% formic acid in water as mobile phase. The identification was performed with tandem mass spectrometer, with electrospray ionization( ESI) in positive mode under multiple reaction monitoring. The quantification was based on external standard curves. RESULTS: The method showed good linearity in the range of 2-100 µg/L( r ≥ 0. 9923). The limit of quantitation were 2. 0 µg/kg. The detection limits of the method were 0. 6 µg/kg. The recoveries were within 67. 5%-95. 8% at the spiked levels of 2. 0-10. 0 µg/kg, and the relative standard deviations were all less than 8. 5%. Six cyclohexanedione herbicides residues were detected in 6. 7% of 30 potatoes samples which was determined by the method. CONCLUSION: The method is rapid, specific, accurate, and it is suitable for detection of quinolone and tetracycline residues.
