RESUMEN

Background: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), one of the most common adverse events associated with chemotherapy, may affect efficacy because of the interruption of chemotherapy or change of regimen in severe cases, and may even increase cancer mortality. Relevant data supports the evidence that acupuncture can treat pain and sensory abnormalities. However, choosing the most effective acupuncture therapy is difficult because of the lack of evidence-based medicine and comparisons between different acupuncture therapies for treating CIPN. The aim of this study was to use a network meta-analysis (NMA) to evaluate the efficacy of different acupuncture therapies for CIPN. Methods: We searched Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, The Chinese Journal Full Text Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and WanFang Database for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture for CIPN. The search period was from the creation of the relevant library to August 10, 2023. A total of 2 investigators independently performed literature screening, data extraction, and risk for bias evaluation. Stata 14.0 software (StataCorp LLC, College Station, Texas USA), was used for the NMA. Results: A total of 13 eligible RCTs involving 746 patients and 6 acupuncture therapies were included in the study. The NMA results showed that electroacupuncture was superior to moxibustion, manual acupuncture, acupoint injection and Western medicine in improving the total effective rate of treatment of CIPN; electroacupuncture + moxibustion was better than manual acupuncture, acupoint injection, and Western medicine. Manual acupuncture's total effective rate was better than Western medicine. However, electroacupuncture was the most effective treatment for CIPN according to the surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) ranking. Conclusion: After a comprehensive evaluation of 6 acupuncture therapies for treating CIPN based on NMA, electroacupuncture may be the best option for treating CIPN. However, would be more convincing to get evidence from more RCTs.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: Although technology-supported interventions are effective for reducing chronic disease risk, little is known about the relative and combined efficacy of mobile health strategies aimed at multiple lifestyle factors. The purpose of this clinical trial is to evaluate the efficacy of technology-supported behavioral intervention strategies for managing multiple lifestyle-related health outcomes in overweight adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). DESIGN AND METHODS: Using a 2 × 2 factorial design, adults with excess body weight (body mass index ≥27 kg/m2, age ≥40 years), T2D, and CKD stages 2-4 were randomized to an advice control group, or remotely delivered programs consisting of synchronous group-based education (all groups), plus (1) Social Cognitive Theory-based behavioral counseling and/or (2) mobile self-monitoring of diet and physical activity. All programs targeted weight loss, greater physical activity, and lower intakes of sodium and phosphorus-containing food additives. RESULTS: Of 256 randomized participants, 186 (73%) completed 6-month assessments. Compared to the ADVICE group, mHealth interventions did not result in significant changes in weight loss, or urinary sodium and phosphorus excretion. In aggregate analyses, groups receiving mobile self-monitoring had greater weight loss at 3 months (P = .02), but between 3 and 6 months, weight losses plateaued, and by 6 months, the differences were no longer statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: When engaging patients with T2D and CKD in multiple behavior changes, self-monitoring diet and physical activity demonstrated significantly larger short-term weight losses. Theory-based behavioral counseling alone was no better than baseline advice and demonstrated no interaction effect with self-monitoring.

RESUMEN

In this study, deep eutectic solvents coupled with a pulsed electric field (PEF-DES) were first applied to the extraction of traditional Chinese medicine plants. This study uses the PEF-DES extraction technique to extract TG-KF (Kapok flavonoid solution extracted with DES-TG). PEF-DES is a simple, effective and environmentally-friendly technology and can be used in industrial-scale production. For the optimal extraction conditions of TG-KF, DES-TG was used as a solvent, the DES-TG concentration was 50%, the solid-liquid ratio was 1 : 30, the electric field intensity was 0.55 kV cm-1, the number of pulses was 100, and the yield of flavonoids was 14.36 ± 0.35%. TG-KF has very good stability and there is no precipitation or discoloration within 6 months. The results of chicken embryo experiments and human patch tests show that 10% TG-KF aqueous solution has no irritation. DPPH experiments show that TG-KF has excellent efficacy as an antioxidant. Overall, TG-KF is expected to become a potential antioxidant raw material.

RESUMEN

To increase the production of exopolysaccharides (EPS) and expand the application of Schizophyllum commune (S. commune) fermentation liquid, the traditional Chinese medicine Radix Puerariae (RP) with outstanding biological activity was selected as a culture additive to improve the EPS yield and enhance the antioxidant activity of fermented products from S. commune. The effects of three independent factors: A: initial pH (5.0-6.0), B: concentration of RP (10-14 g L-1), and C: inoculum size (8-12%, v/v) on the EPS yield were evaluated. The results of response surface methodology (RSM) showed that the optimal fermentation conditions were: A: 5.40, B: 12.80 g L-1, and C: 10.0%. The optimal yield of EPS was 8.41 ± 0.12 mg mL-1, which showed an insignificant (p > 0.05) difference with the predicted value (8.45 mg mL-1). The fermented supernatants cultured from RP-supplemented medium (SC-RP) or regular medium (SC) were collected for further study. FT-IR analysis of EPS-1 (purified from SC) and EPS-2 (purified from SC-RP) showed that their structures were consistent, indicating that the addition of RP did not affect the structure of schizophyllan (SPG). In addition, compared with SC, the in vitro antioxidant activities of SC-RP were significantly improved with ORAC values and FRAP values increasing by 11.56-fold and 14.69-fold, respectively. There was a significant correlation among the phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and antioxidant activity of SC-RP in this study. Besides, SC-RP was detected to contain more than 25 bioactive ingredients compared with that of SC, which may play a key role in its antioxidant activities. Thus, these results indicated that RP enhanced the yield of SPG and improved the antioxidant activity of the fermented products by S. commune. Accordingly, the fermentation liquid of S. commune with the addition of RP may have potential application in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The main objective of this study was to develop novel BSA nanoparticles (BSA NPs) for improving the bioavailability of curcumin as an anticancer drug, and those BSA NPs were galactosylated for forming the curcumin-loaded galactosylated BSA nanoparticles (Gal-BSA-Cur NPs), thus enhancing their ability to target asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR) overexpressed on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Gal-BSA-Cur NPs were prepared by the desolvation method and showed a spherical shape and well distribution with the average particle size of 116.24 nm. RESULTS: In vitro drug release assay exhibited that Gal-BSA-Cur NPs had higher release rates and improved the curcumin solubility. Cell uptake studies confirmed that Gal-BSA-Cur NPs could selectively recognize receptors on the surface of HCC (HepG2) cells and improve internalization ability of drug compared with BSA NPs-loaded curcumin (BSA-Cur NPs), which might be due to high affinity to galactose. Further, the effects of Gal-BSA-Cur NPs were evaluated by cytotoxicity assay, crystal violet assay, cell apoptosis assay, and wound healing assay, respectively, which revealed that Gal-BSA-Cur NPs could inhibit HepG2 cells proliferation, induce cell apoptosis, and inhibit cell migration. CONCLUSION: Immunofluorescence staining has proved that the effects of Gal-BSA-Cur NPs related to the suppression of the nuclear factor κB-p65 (NF-κB-p65) expression in HepG2 cell nucleus. Therefore, these results indicate that novel Gal-BSA-Cur NPs are potential candidates for targeted curcumin delivery to HCC cells.

RESUMEN

A novel in-syringe dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction based on the solidification of ionic liquids (in-syringe SIL-DLLME) was coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detector (HPLC-UVD) to detect five benzoylurea insecticides (BUs) in water and tea beverage samples. In this method, the hydrophobic ionic liquid [N8881][PF6] was formed in situ by the metathesis reaction between [N8881]Cl and the anion-exchange reagent KPF6 to extract the target analytes. The whole extraction procedure was performed in a syringe. The solidified extractant could be separated from the aqueous phase by exposing the emulsified extraction solution to an ice bath and then easily collected by squeezing out the aqueous phase through the prepared NWPP-based needle. Various parameters affecting the extraction efficiency, such as the amount of [N8881]Cl, the molar ratio of [N8881]Cl to KPF6, salt addition, cooling time, solution temperature, sample pH and sample volume, were evaluated. Under the optimized conditions, the proposed method was validated with satisfactory results: good linearities with coefficients of determination greater than 0.99 were obtained in the range of 2-500µgL-1; the limits of detection varied between 0.29 and 0.59µgL-1; the recoveries of the five benzoylurea insecticides ranged from 85.93% to 90.52%; and the intra-day (n=3) and inter-day (n=3) relative standard deviations were less than 5.36%. Finally, the proposed method was successfully used for the determination of BUs in real water and tea beverage samples.

RESUMEN

Objective: To clarify the antibacterial material basis of Polygonum capitatum. Methods: D101 macroporous resin and MCI column chromatographic methods were used for the preparation of various fractions, while UHPLC-UV methods were used to establish the chromatogram for the fractions, and the chromatographic peaks were identified by comparing their retention times and UV spectra with the authentic standards; uniform design was adopted for the preparation of samples with different peak concentrations, and their antibacterial effects were evaluated by determining their MIC against Escherichia coli, the bacterium generally found in urinary tract infections. Grey relational analysis was employed to investigate the relationship between the 1 / MIC values and the peak areas and to reveal the antibacterial material basis of Polygonum capitatum. Results: Peaks 1( gallic acid),6( epicatechin),8( catechin),13( rutin),17( quercetin-3-O-( 2″-O-galloyl)-ß-D-glucopyranoside) and 18( quercetin) showed a better correlation( grey relational grades were higher than 0. 8) to the antibacterial activity. Conclusion: The antibacterial activity of Polygonum capitatum is attributed to the holistic effects of most of the constitutional compounds, and gallic acid,epicatechin,catechin,rutin,quercetin-3-O-( 2″-O-galloyl)-ß-D-glucopyranoside and quercetin are the main antibacterial material basis of Polygonum capitatum. This study forms a strong basis for the quality control and exploitation of Polygonum capitatum and its products.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The present study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a nursing intervention program for outpatient rehabilitation of children with Hirschsprung-associated enterocolitis (HAEC) after radical colectomy for Hirschsprung disease (HD). BACKGROUND: Postoperative outcomes severely affect the quality of life in pediatric HD patients after operation. The improvement in defecation function is regarded as one of the most useful parameters to evaluate the quality of life in HD patients after radical intestinal resection. A close attention should also be paid to the patients' ability of social adaptation. METHODS: This prospective, randomized control trial enrolled 85 pediatric patients with HAEC after colectomy. They were randomly divided into the control and intervention groups. All the patients were followed up for 6 to 12 months after initial HAEC treatment. RESULTS: The intervention group had a lower enterocolitis recurrence rate than the control group, with a better ability to control defecation and their parents had better rehabilitation nursing knowledge (p < 0.05). The degree of parents' satisfaction regarding the outcome was significantly better in the intervention group than that in the control group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: A systemic rehabilitation nursing program could decrease enterocolitis recurrence, improve the recovery of anorectal functions, and enhance the quality of life in the pediatric patients after radical colectomy.
