RESUMEN

With three representative types of gynecological diseases (dysmenorrhea, pelvic inflammation, polycystic ovary syndrome) as examples, the application methods of meridian and acupoint diagnosis for gynecological diseases treated with acupuncture and moxibustion are discussed. During clinical diagnosis and treatment, it is recommended to examine the patient's leg segment along the three yin meridians of foot, aiming to explore the positive reactions of the meridians and acupoints (color, shape, skin temperature, sensory abnormalities, etc.). Acupuncture and moxibustion treatment at this positive reaction place can improve the clinical efficacy. Meridian and acupoint diagnosis could provide basis for meridian syndrome differentiation, thus guiding the selection of acupoint prescriptions; it is also helpful to clarify the deficiency, excess, cold and heat of the disease nature, thus guiding the selection of acupuncture and moxibustion methods. In addition, it is an auxiliary method to estimate the prognosis and outcome of the disease.

RESUMEN

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of Jiangshi Xuantong decoction (JSXT) in the treatment of peripheral neuropathy patients with arthralgia syndrome caused by wind, heat, and dampness, investigate the changes in common clinical evaluation indexes and electrophysiology, and verify its effectiveness and safety. Method:A total of 120 patients were randomly divided into a JSXT group (n=60) and a mecobalamin group (n=60). The changes in Toronto clinical neuropathy scores (TCNSs),traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores, efficacy for TCM syndrome, electrophysiological results in the electromyogram, and safety indexes before and after JSXT treatment of peripheral neuropathy were observed to determine the clinical efficacy and safety of JSXT for peripheral neuropathy. Result:No significant differences in various indexes among patients were observed before treatment. The TCM syndrome score,TCNS, and electrophysiological results in the electromyogram of the patients after treatment were significantly higher than those before treatment (P<0.05). The evaluation indexes of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05). During the follow-up,the evaluation indexes in the treatment group increased with time, and the corresponding growth was higher than that in the control group. There were no significant adverse reactions in both groups, and the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion:JSXT in the treatment of patients with peripheral neuropathy is superior to the control in terms of clinical symptoms, relevant scores, and electrophysiological results, with definite clinical efficacy. It is proved safe and reliable and can effectively and quickly enhance peripheral neurological function, improve the quality of life, and alleviate the negative emotions of patients. Therefore,JSXT possesses a good clinical therapeutic efficacy on patients with peripheral neuropathy and is expected to provide a new treatment method for patients with peripheral neuropathy, which is worthy of further clinical promotion.

RESUMEN

AIM:To measure the transverse diameter of nasolacrimal duct in patients with nasolacrimal duct obstruction, and to analyze the difference of the transverse diameter of the upper, middle and lower nasal nasolacrimal ducts between the diseased eyes and the normal eyes, between the male and the female eyes, and of different ages and sexes and then explore the correlation between the diameter of nasolacrimal duct and nasolacrimal duct obstruction based on computed tomography (CT) dacryocystography.METHODS:From April 2014 to January 2017 in Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated Hospital of ophthalmology in tears or pus for complaints, diagnosis of nasolacrimal duct obstruction in 152 patients (179 sick eyes,125 normal eyes).Among them 25 cases were male (sick eyes 28 eyes, normal eye 22 eyes),127 cases were female (sick eves 151 eyes, normal eyes 103 eyes),age from 4 to 87 years old, mean age 53.44±16.06 years old.All patients with perfusion of 30% iohexol injection in lacrimal passages, and immediately examined with CT scan, upload CT images on PACS workstation for 3D reconstruction of nasolacrimal duct, oblique coronal of nasolacrimal duct and its adjacent structure were observed. We measured and analyzed the transverse diameters of the upper, middle and lower nasal nasolacrimal ducts between men and women, diseased eyes and non diseased eyes, and between the diseased eyes of different age groups.RESULTS:The transverse diameter of the upper, middle and lower nasal nasolacrimal duct was no significant difference between the diseased eye and the normal eye, between the male and female diseased eyes, and between the diseased eyes of different age groups (P>0.05).The transverse diameters of the upper, middle and lower nasolacrimal ducts were significantly different between the diseased eyes and the normal eyes (P<0.001),and the transverse diameter of the middle mouth was the smallest.CONCLUSION:Transverse diameter of bony nasolacrimal duct is not a risk factor for nasolacrimal duct obstruction.

RESUMEN

Recent years, chemical constituents from spice volatile oils have gained worldwide concern owing to its multiple pharmacological effects and safety for using as the natural antibacterial agents. However, their poor dissolution, strong volatility, serious irritation, weak stability, easy oxidation and low bioavailability characteristics are the major obstacle in the preparation of effective oral formulation and practical application. Therefore, there is an urgent need to select a novel carrier system that can delivery the chemical constituents from spice volatile oils more efficiently with improving their stability as well as alleviating the irritation, and develop the functional food, health products and even medicine for exerting their pharmacological effects, which also is the focus and nodus of the research on their application. This review presents recent systematic studies on their novel carrier systems, including cyclodextrin inclusion complex, liposomes, nanoemulsions, nanoparticles, solid dispersion and so on, and summarizes the characteristics, application range and problems of each novel carrier systems, in order to provide some beneficial thoughts in further developing new products of chemical constituents from spice volatile oils.

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the improvements in constipation differentiated as intestine system syndrome and lung system syndrome treated with electroacupuncture (EA) and explore their correlation.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Seventy cases of severe functional constipation were randomized into an EA group and a pseudo-EA group, 35 cases in each one. In the EA group, the needles were inserted deeply at Tianshu (ST 25) and Fujie (SP 14) on bilateral sides, and directly went to parietal peritoneum. EA was attached to the needles, dense-disperse wave, 2 Hz/15 Hz, and 0.1 to 1.0 mA. The perpendicular insertion was done at Shangjuxu (ST 37), 25 mm in depth. After qi arrival, the needle was lifted, thrusted and rotated once every 10 min, for 3 times totally. The needles were retained for 30 min. In the pseudo-EA group, the pseudo-points lateral to Tianshu (ST 25), Fujie (SP 14) and Shangjuxu (ST 37) on bilateral sides were punctured shallowly. The electric stimulation was pretended to connect but with the electric wire cutting off. The needles were retained for 30 min. The treatment was given 5 times weekly in the first two weeks and 3 times weekly in the later 6 weeks. Totally, 28 treatments were required. TCM intestine and lung syndrome scale was used for evaluation. The changes in TCM syndromes were observed before and after treatment in the patients of the two groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The total score of intestine and lung syndrome and the score of individual syndrome were all reduced after treatment as compared with those before treatment in the two groups (both P<0.01). The improvements of the EA group in the total score of intestine system syndrome, the scores of large. intestine syndrome and stomach syndrome, the total score of lung system syndrome and the score of lung dysfunction in dispersing and descending syndrome were superior to those of the pseudo-EA group (P<0.01, P<0.05). The differences in the scores of lung qi deficiency syndrome and throat syndrome were not significant between the two groups (all P>0.05). Simultaneously, the very strong positive correlation (P<0.01) and positive linear correlation (P<0.01) were presented in the total score of intestine and lung syndrome of the two groups.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>EA obviously improves in intestine system syndrome (including large intestine syndrome and stomach syndrome), as well as lung system syndrome (lung dysfunction in dispersing and descending) in the treatment of constipation. But the improvements are not apparent in the treatment of lung qi deficiency and throat disorder. Additionally, the obvious correlation is displayed in the improvements in intestine and lung syndrome.</p>
