RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: To date, there are no studies investigating the safety and outcomes of facial feminization surgery (FFS) as an outpatient procedure. This is the first study of its kind analyzing the outcomes of ambulatory FFS based on a comparison of complications, post-operative emergency department or urgent care (ED/UC) visits, and readmissions between patients who underwent FFS with admission versus same-day surgery. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on all patients who underwent FFS in a single integrated healthcare system. Patient charts were reviewed for operative details, complications, post-operative ED/UC visits, readmission, and demographic factors. Major outcomes including complications, readmissions, and ED/UC visits were compared between groups with same-day discharge and post-operative hospital admission. RESULTS: Of 242 patients included in the study, ED/UC visits were comparable between patients discharged same-day (18.2%) and patients admitted post-operatively (21.6%, p = 0.52). Logistic regression showed no significant difference in the composite outcomes of minor complications, major complications, and readmissions (15.6% for ambulatory versus 19.3% for admission, p = 0.46). Temporary nerve palsy, infection, and hematoma were the most common post-operative complications. However, covariates of a lower face procedure and operative time were shown to have significant differences in the composite complication outcome (p = 0.04 and p = 0.045, respectively). CONCLUSION: Ambulatory FFS is a safe practice with no associated increase in adverse outcomes including complications, ED/UC visits, and readmission when compared to post-operative admission. Adoption of same-day FFS should be considered by high-volume gender health centers to potentially benefit from increased scheduling flexibility and efficiency, increased access to care, and lower healthcare costs.

RESUMEN

In recent years, aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active materials have been emerging as a promising means for bioimaging and phototherapy. However, the majority of AIE luminogens (AIEgens) need to be encapsulated into versatile nanocomposites to improve their biocompatibility and tumor targeting. Herein, we prepared a tumor- and mitochondria-targeted protein nanocage by the fusion of human H-chain ferritin (HFtn) with a tumor homing and penetrating peptide LinTT1 using genetic engineering technology. The LinTT1-HFtn could serve as a nanocarrier to encapsulate AIEgens via a simple pH-driven disassembly/reassembly process, thereby fabricating the dual-targeting AIEgen-protein nanoparticles (NPs). The as designed NPs exhibited an improved hepatoblastoma-homing property and tumor penetrating ability, which is favorable for tumor-targeted fluorescence imaging. The NPs also presented a mitochondria-targeting ability, and efficiently generated reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon visible light irradiation, making them valuable for inducing efficient mitochondrial dysfunction and intrinsic apoptosis in cancer cells. In vivo experiments demonstrated that the NPs could provide the accurate tumor imaging and dramatic tumor growth inhibition with minimal side effects. Taken together, this study presents a facile and green approach for fabrication of tumor- and mitochondria-targeted AIEgen-protein NPs, which can serve as a promising strategy for imaging-guided photodynamic cancer therapy. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: AIE luminogens (AIEgens) show strong fluorescence and enhanced ROS generation in the aggregate state, which would facilitate the image-guided photodynamic therapy [12-14]. However, the major obstacles that hinder biological applications are their lack of hydrophilicity and selective targeting [15]. To address this issue, this study presents a facile and green approach for the fabrication of tumor and mitochondriatargeted AIEgen-protein nanoparticles via a simple disassembly/reassembly of the LinTT1 peptide-functionalized ferritin nanocage without any harmful chemicals or chemical modification. The targeting peptide-functionalized nanocage not only restricts the intramolecular motion of AIEgens leading to enhanced fluorescence and ROS production, but also confers good targeting to AIEgens.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of wheat-grain moxibustion at "Dazhui" (GV 14) on the expressions of Beclin-1 and GRP78 in spinal dorsal horn in rats with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy (CSR), and to explore the possible analgesic mechanism of wheat-grain moxibustion for CSR. METHODS: A total of 48 SD rats were randomly divided into a sham operation group, a model group, a wheat-grain moxibustion group and a wheat-grain moxibustion+3-MA group, 12 rats in each group. The CSR model was prepared by spinal cord insertion method. Three days after modeling, the rats in the model group were intraperitoneally injected with 1 mL of 0.9% sodium chloride solution; the rats in the wheat-grain moxibustion group were treated with wheat-grain moxibustion at "Dazhui" (GV 14, 6 cones per time) on the basis of the model group; the rats in the wheat-grain moxibustion+3-MA group were intraperitoneally injected with 3-MA solution and wheat-grain moxibustion at "Dazhui" (GV 14, 6 cones per time). The three groups were intervened for 7 days, once a day. The gait score and mechanical pain threshold were observed before treatment and 7 days into treatment; after the treatment, the expressions of mRNA and protein of Beclin-1 in spinal dorsal horn were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR and immunohistochemistry; the expression of GRP78 protein in spinal dorsal horn was detected by Western blot method; the autophagosomes and ultrastructure in spinal dorsal horn neurons were observed by electron microscope. RESULTS: After the treatment, compared with the sham operation group, in the model group, the gait score was increased and the mechanical pain threshold was decreased (P<0.01), and the expression of GRP78 protein in spinal dorsal horn was increased (P<0.01). Compared with the model group and the wheat-grain moxibustion+3-MA group, in the wheat-grain moxibustion group, the gait score was decreased and mechanical pain threshold was increased (P<0.01), and the expression of GRP78 protein in spinal dorsal horn was decreased, and the expressions of mRNA and protein of Beclin-1 were increased (P<0.01). Under electron microscope, the ultrastructure of spinal dorsal horn neurons in the wheat-grain moxibustion group was not significantly damaged, and its structure was basically close to normal, and the number of autophagosomes was more than the other three groups. CONCLUSION: Wheat-grain moxibustion at "Dazhui" (GV 14) has analgesic effect on CSR rats. The mechanism may be related to moderately up-regulate the expression of Beclin-1, enhance autophagy and reduce endoplasmic reticulum stress.

RESUMEN

AIM: Coffee drinking is considered as a risk factor of endometrial cancer (EC). Here, we conducted a meta-analysis of observational study to evaluate the relationship between coffee drinking and the risk of EC. METHODS: The MEDLINE and EMBASE databases were searched until July 2018. Pooled relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using a random-effects model. RESULTS: A total of 24 studies (12 case-control and 12 cohort studies) on coffee intake with 9833 incident cases of EC and 699 234 subjects were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled RR of endometrial cancer for the highest versus the lowest categories of coffee intake was 0.71 (95% CI: 0.65-0.77; I2  = 14%, p for heterogeneity = 0.26). By study design, the pooled RRs were 0.68 (95% CI: 0.56-0.83) for case-control studies and 0.70 (95% CI: 0.63-0.77) for cohort studies. For different regions, the pooled RRs were 0.74 (95% CI: 0.62-0.88) in Europe, 0.71 (95% CI: 0.64-0.79) in United States/Canada, and 0.40 (95% CI: 0.28-0.57) in Japan. By additional subgroup analysis, a stronger inverse association was shown in caffeinated coffee drinkers (RR 0.66, 95% CI: 0.52-0.83), individuals with the higher body mass index (BMI) (RR 0.65, 95% CI: 0.54-0.79), never smokers (RR 0.68, 95% CI: 0.56-0.84), ever smokers (RR 0.56, 95% CI: 0.45-0.70), and those who never used hormone replacement therapy (HRT) (RR 0.88, 95% CI: 0.79-0.98). The consumption of filtered or boiled coffee showed no significant association. CONCLUSIONS: Increased coffee intake is associated with a reduced risk of EC.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical effect of acupuncture combined with wheat-grain moxibustion and oral sertraline hydrochloride dispersible tablets in the treatment of mild to moderate postpartum depression. METHODS: Sixty patients with mild to moderate postpartum depression were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. Both groups were treated with psychotherapy. The control group was treated with oral sertraline hydrochloride dispersible tablets, 50 mg each time, once a day; the observation group was treated with acupuncture at Qihai (CV 6), Zusanli (ST 36), Xuehai (SP 10), Hegu (LI 4), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Taixi (KI 3), etc. combined with wheat-grain moxibustion at Xinshu (BL 15), Pishu (BL 20), Ganshu (BL 18) and Shenshu (BL 23), once every other day, 3 times a week. Both groups were treated for 4 weeks as a course, with 2 consecutive courses of treatment. Before and after treatment and follow-up of 3 months after the end of treatment, the Hamilton depression scale (HAMD), Edinburgh postnatal depression scale (EPDS) and World Health Organization quality of life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) score of the two groups were compared, and the clinical effect was assessed. RESULTS: After treatment and during follow-up, the HAMD and EPDS scores of the two groups were lower than before treatment (P<0.05), and the WHOQOL-BREF scores of the two groups were higher than before treatment (P<0.05). In the control group, the scores of HAMD and EPDS during follow-up were higher than after treatment (P<0.05), and the score of WHOQOL-BREF during follow-up was lower than after treatment (P<0.05). After treatment and during follow-up, the HAMD and EPDS scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05), and the WHOQOL-BREF score of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate of the observation group was 93.3% (28/30), which was higher than 86.7% (26/30) of the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture combined with wheat-grain moxibustion can improve the depressive symptoms of patients with mild to moderate postpartum depression and improve their quality of life, and the clinical effect is more lasting and stable than oral sertraline hydrochloride dispersible tablets.

RESUMEN

The ability of bamboo charcoal to reduce the negative effects of high dietary selenium (Se) concentrations was assessed by feeding juvenile blunt snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala) one of five Se-rich diets (1.5 mg/kg Se; 36% protein, 8.7% lipid) containing graded levels (0-4 g/kg) of bamboo charcoal powder for eight weeks. There were four tanks (350 L) of fish (initial weight 16.0 ± 0.5 g) for each treatment, and the fish were fed to satiation four times each day. At the end of the feeding trial, all of the fish from each tank were weighed to calculate the growth performance. Blood samples were firstly obtained to collect plasma for the biochemical indexes determination. Liver tissues were then collected to determine the antioxidant enzyme activities and gene expression. Dorsal muscles were also collected to determine the nutrient composition. The results show that when the bamboo charcoal content in the Se-rich feed ranged between 0 and 3 g/kg, the weight growth rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) values increased with the higher dietary bamboo charcoal content, and the maximum WGR and SGR values were achieved when the bamboo charcoal content in the Se-rich feed was 2-3 g/kg (p < 0.05). The Se content in muscle tissues decreased significantly with the increased bamboo charcoal content (p < 0.05) in the Se-rich feed, which ranged from 0 to 4 g/kg. When the bamboo charcoal content in the Se-rich feed was 2-3 g/kg, the levels of glucose (GLU) and albumin (ALB) in plasma reached a maximum (p < 0.05), whereas the level of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) reached a minimum (p < 0.05). Additionally, the activities of catalase (CAT), total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), total antioxidative capacity (T-AOC), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) were significantly enhanced (p < 0.05) when the bamboo charcoal content was 3 g/kg. In contrast, the malondialdehyde (MDA) level increased sharply when the bamboo charcoal content in the Se-rich feed was 1 g/kg, compared to the control group and the groups supplemented with 2-3 g/kg bamboo charcoal (p < 0.05). Regarding mRNA-level gene expression, the results show that dietary supplementation with 0 to 3 g/kg of bamboo charcoal increased the expression of keap1 and nrf2, whereas nfkb expression was inhibited (p < 0.05). The mRNA expression of the antioxidant enzymes cat, gpx, and mn-sod was consistently enhanced in the group fed with the 3 g/kg bamboo charcoal diet (p < 0.05). The expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines tnfα and tgfß was inhibited in the groups supplemented with 2-3 g/kg bamboo charcoal, whereas the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines (il10) increased in the bamboo charcoal supplementation groups compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Generally, supplementation with 2-3 g/kg of bamboo charcoal in Se-rich feed improved the growth performance, physiological status, and antioxidant enzyme activities of blunt snout bream. Moreover, bamboo charcoal supplementation in Se-rich diets stimulated the antioxidant system and inhibited the inflammatory response by activating Nrf2-Keap1 and suppressing NF-κB.

RESUMEN

The discovery of penicillin has effectively controlled the infection caused by Gram-positive bacteria. Afterwards, the research and development of antibacterial drugs has entered the golden age, and made a great contribution to human health. However, in recent years, with the increasing use of antibiotics around the world, pathogenic bacteria drive gene mutation to obtain drug resistance to ensure its survival advantage, and promote the transfer of drug-resistant genes, resulting in a sharp increase of drug-resistant bacteria. In addition, the current development speed of new antibiotics is far slower than the growth and spread speed of drug-resistant bacteria, which makes the drug-resistant crisis more serious and becomes one of the biggest threats to the global community. Compared with the same type of bacterial infection, drug-resistant bacterial infection has the characteristics of complexity and refractoriness, which causes worse clinical outcome and higher risk of death in patients, and brings severe challenges to clinical work. If the trend of bacterial drug resistance is not controlled, the crisis of no drug available will come. Therefore, it is urgent to explore effective alternative means to fight against bacterial drug resistance and reduce the harm of drug-resistant bacterial infection. Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has unique advantages in the treatment of infectious diseases. Compared with modern antibacterial drugs, it has the characteristics of wide sources, rich active ingredients, and is not easy to produce drug resistance. It may be an important source for screening and developing new anti-infective drugs. Therefore, it is promising to develop and utilize TCM to solve the problem of drug-resistant bacteria infection. This paper will review relevant studies in recent years in terms of interfering with the biochemical metabolism of drug-resistant bacteria to directly inhibit or kill drug-resistant bacteria, improving bacterial drug resistance to indirectly inhibit bacteria and kill bacteria, and maintaining the balance of the body and regulating the treatment of drug-resistant bacteria infection as a whole, so as to provide references for guiding clinical medication and research and development of new traditional Chinese medicines.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to optimize the coagulation-flocculation effect of a wastewater treatment system using the response surface methodology (RSM) and three-step method to minimize phosphorus concentration in the distillate wastewater. In order to minimize the concentration of total phosphorus (TP), experiments were carried out using 33-factorial designs with three levels and three factors. A Box-Behnken design, which is the standard design of RSM, was used to evaluate the effects and interactions of three major factors (Fe:P (w/w) ratio, coagulation pH and fast mixing speed (FMS)) on the treatment efficiency. A multivariable quadratic model developed for studying the response indicated that the values for optimum conditions for Fe:P (w/w) ratio, coagulation pH and FMS were 2.40, 6.48 and 100 rev min-1, respectively. Under optimal process conditions, the TP concentration in the distillery effluent was reduced from 10 mg L-1 to 0.215 mg L-1, representing a removal efficiency of 97.85%. Based upon the statistical evaluation of results, it is inferred that RSM can be used as an appropriate approach to optimize the coag-flocculation process. Meanwhile, the study has shown that, for the equivalent dose of ferric chloride, the average three-step effect is better than that of the one-time addition.

RESUMEN

There are various respiratory tract complications in patients undergoing general anesthesia, with postoperative sore throat (POST) being the most commonly seen. Although measures have been taken to prevent and treat POST in clinical practice, the control of POST is still not satisfactory. In this study, 880 ASA patients with grade I to II general anesthesia were randomly assigned into control group and experimental group. After patients entered into the operating room, the plasters were applied to the designated points (Tianzhu, Lianquan, Dazhui, etc), and the clinical efficacy of acupoint application in prevention and treatment of respiratory tract complications after general anesthesia was observed. The results showed that patients starting using acupoint application before operation could significantly reduce the incidence of postoperative respiratory tract complications, and the effects lasted for up to 24 hours. In this study, acupoint application was used, providing a simple, safe, efficient, and durable approach to prevent and treat respiratory tract complications after operation under general anesthesia.

RESUMEN

Diabetes mellitus complicated with cerebral infarction is the commonest and most serious vascular complication of diabetes mellitus. With a high disability and mortality rate, it seriously threatens human health. Because the pathogenesis is still unclear, more and more scholars have focused on the research of diabetic cerebral infarction at home and abroad. Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) compounds have a remarkable curative effect in the treatment of diabetic cerebral infarction. Its mechanisms of action mainly include anti-hypertension, reduction of blood sugar and lipid, promotion of vascular regeneration and vascular endothelial function, anticoagulation, anti-thrombosis, improvement of nerve function defect, reduction of infarct volume, improvement of hemorheological, inhibition of inflammation and platelet aggregation, and promotion of collateral circulation. Through literature search, this paper summarizes the research progress of the mechanisms of TCM compounds in treating diabetic cerebral infarction in recent five years at home and abroad, in order to provide reference for clinical treatment.

RESUMEN

Mangiferin (MAN), a naturally occurring polyphenol commonly found in mango and papaya. However, little is known its anti-vascular injury effects and the underlying mechanisms. This paper investigated the anti-vascular injury effect of MAN and the mechanisms in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced C57BL/6J mice and oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) induced human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). The levels of plasma lipid, inflammatory factors and nitric oxide (NO) in mice were evaluated. The expression levels of PI3K, AKT, eNOS, PTEN and their phosphorylated proteins were measured by western blots. In addition, the PTEN-siRNA HUVECs were also used. The result showed that MAN markedly decreased the plasma lipid, inflammatory level in HFD-induced vascular injury mice respectively. Furthermore, MAN alleviate ox-LDL-stimulated dysfunction of HUVECs, restored the diminished NO release, decreased the ROS generation, significantly increased the expression of p-Akt, p-eNOS, and decreased the expression of PTEN, but have no effect on PI3K. However, the protective effects of MAN were significantly reduced by co-treatment with PI3K inhibitor or abolished by eNOS inhibitor. In addition, MAN has no protective effect on ox-LDL induced PTEN-siRNA HUVECs injury. Collectively, MAN appeared to alleviate ox-LDL-stimulated dysfunction of HUVECs via the PTEN/Akt/eNOS signaling pathway, thus decrease vascular injury in HFD-administrated mice.

RESUMEN

In this study, ecological factors, occurrence records, the essential oil components content were used to predict the potential geographical distribution and quality division of Mentha haplocalyx in China based on the MaxEnt modeling and geographic information system(GIS). The AUC of ROC curve was above 0.950,indicating that the predictive results with the maximum model were highly precise. The results showed that the main environmental factors determining the potential distribution were annual average precipitation (the contribution rate, 45.87%), mean temperature of wettest quarter (11.92%), mean temperature of warmest quarter (7.84%), average monthly precipitation of May (6.80%), standard deviation of seasonal temperature variation (4.42%), mean temperature of the coldest quarter (3.47%) and altitude (2.92%). The environmental variables in the highly potential areas were determined as annual average precipitation around [530,1 465] mm, mean temperature of wettest quarter around [24.5,29] ℃, mean temperature of the warmest quarter around [25.5,29] ℃, average monthly precipitation of May around [67,133] mm, standard deviation of temperature seasonal change around [8 333,9 643], mean temperature of the coldest quarter around [1.7,8.3] ℃ and the altitude around [0,165] mm. The best quality distribution of M. haplocalyx was mainly located in Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, Zhejiang and Heilongjiang. The zoning results basically coincide with the actual situation. The quality division of M. haplocalyx can be used for providing a scientific basis for selection of artificial planting base and guidance of its production.

RESUMEN

In order to investigate spatial variations in soil phosphorus (P) concentration and the influencing factors, one permanent plot of 1 hm2 was established and stand structure was surveyed in Choerospondias axillaries deciduous broadleaved forest in Dashanchong Forest Park in Changsha County, Hunan Province, China. Soil samples were collected with equidistant grid point sampling method and soil P concentration and its spatial variation were analyzed by using geo-statistics and geographical information system (GIS) techniques. The results showed that the variations of total P and available P concentrations in humus layer and in the soil profile at depth of 0-10, 10-20 and 20-30 cm were moderate and the available P showed higher variability in a specific soil layer compared with total P. Concentrations of total P and available P in soil decreased, while the variations increased with the increase in soil depth. The total P and available P showed high spatial autocorrelation, primarily resulted from the structural factors. The spatial heterogeneity of available P was stronger than that of total P, and the spatial autocorrelation ranges of total P and available P varied from 92.80 to 168.90 m and from 79.43 to 106.20 m in different soil layers, respectively. At the same soil depth, fractal dimensions of total P were higher than that of available P, with more complex spatial pattern, while available P showed stronger spatial correlation with stronger spatial structure. In humus layer and soil depths of 0-10, 10-20 and 20-30 cm, the spatial variation pattern of total P and available P concentrations showed an apparent belt-shaped and spot massive gradient change. The high value appeared at low elevation and valley position, and the low value appeared in the high elevation and ridge area. The total P and available P concentrations showed significantly negative correlation with elevation and litter, but the relationship with convexity, species, numbers and soil pH was not significant. The total P and available P exhibited significant positive correlations with soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen concentration, indicating the leaching characteristics of soil P. Its spatial variability was affected by many interactive factors.

RESUMEN

Varicocele is commonly associated with male infertility because it impairs normal sperm morphology and activity. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) are important determinants of sperm cell structure and function, but their relationship with varicocele remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to investigate the PUFA composition in spermatozoa of infertile men with varicocele and to evaluate the potential relationship between PUFA and varicocele. This case control study recruited 92 infertile men with varicocele, 99 infertile men without varicocele and 95 fertile male control subjects. Semen morphology and activity parameters were assessed and seminal plasma 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) content was determined by ELISA. Sperm concentrations of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids were measured by gas chromatography. Infertile men with varicocele had lower concentrations of omega-3 PUFA, higher omega-6:omega-3 PUFA ratios and greater oxidative DNA damage in spermatozoa compared with infertile men without varicocele and normal subjects. The degree of varicocele and DNA damage was associated with decreased omega-3 PUFA concentrations and semen quality in infertile men with varicocele. The findings suggest that omega-3 PUFA deficiency could be implicated in varicocele-associated infertility, and highlight the need for intervention trials to test the usefulness of omega-3 supplementation in reducing sperm abnormalities in infertile men with varicocele.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the distribution of pathogens and drug resistance in bile and the association between the pregnane X receptor (PXR) gene polymorphisms, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes and the risk of cholesterol gallstone disease (CGD).@*METHODS@#A total of 392 samples were enrolled in this study from January 2014 to February 2015, among which 192 patients were with CGD, and 200 samples were healthy. Strains were isolated and susceptibility testing was the disk diffusion method susceptibility testing. The patients were divided into hepatochlic hygropyrexia, stagnation of liver-qi, and the accumulation of damp. The PXR gene polymorphisms were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. The association between the PXR gene polymorphisms and the risk of CGD was examined by logistic regression analysis.@*RESULTS@#A total of 192 cases were detected in 230 of bile culture pathogens, including Gram-negative bacteria 133 (57.83%), Gram-positive bacteria 76 (33.04%), and fungi 21 (9.13%). The top five pathogens were Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis, Candida albicans, and Enterococcus feces, of which 110 cases was of single infection, 48 cases of mixed infection of two strains, eight cases of mixed infection of three bacteria. Among 59 Escherichia coli, the yield extended-spectrum beta-lactamases had 40 (67.80%). The hepatochlic hygropyrexia was the most TCM syndrome, followed by stagnation of liver-qi, and the accumulation of damp was least. Different pathogens and the rs6785049 genotypes distributed differently in cholelithiasis patients with different TCM syndromes (P < 0.05). In hepatochlic hygropyrexia patients the Gram-negative bacteria was most. There was significant differences between CGD group and control group in rs6785049 (P < 0.001). Comparison with wild-type portable GG, GA genotype increased the risk of the occurrence of gallstones (OR = 0.40, 95%CI: 0.16-0.79); likewise, carrying the GA+AA genotype also increased the risk (OR = 0.38, 95%CI: 0.19-0.81). There was no significant differences in rs2276707, rs3814055 site polymorphic loci alleles in CGD group and control group.@*CONCLUSIONS@#In the treatment of cholelithiasis, bile samples should be collected for bacterial culture and sensitivity test, and drugs should be strictly chosen based on the results. The rs6785049 polymorphisms in PXR gene may increase the risk of gallstones ontogeny, and gallstones can be early detected and prevented by detecting genotypes. rs6785049 polymorphisms in PXR gene may has relationship with TCM syndromes.

RESUMEN

Here, we examine overlap between tactile and visual motion BOLD responses within the human MT+ complex. Although several studies have reported tactile responses overlapping with hMT+, many used group average analyses, leaving it unclear whether these responses were restricted to subregions of hMT+. Moreover, previous studies either employed a tactile task or passive stimulation, leaving it unclear whether or not tactile responses in hMT+ are simply the consequence of visual imagery. Here, we carried out a replication of one of the classic papers finding tactile responses in hMT+. We mapped MT and MST in individual subjects using visual field localizers. We then examined responses to tactile motion on the arm, either presented passively or in the presence of a visual task performed at fixation designed to minimize visualization of the concurrent tactile stimulation. To our surprise, without a visual task, we found only weak tactile motion responses in MT (6% of voxels showing tactile responses) and MST (2% of voxels). With an unrelated visual task designed to withdraw attention from the tactile modality, responses in MST were reduced to almost nothing (<1% regions). Consistent with previous results, we did observe tactile responses in STS regions superior and anterior to hMT+. Despite the lack of individual overlap, group-averaged responses produced strong spurious overlap between tactile and visual motion responses within hMT+ that resembled those observed in previous studies. The weak nature of tactile responses in hMT+ (and their abolition by withdrawal of attention) suggests that hMT+ may not serve as a supramodal motion processing module.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of Kuntai Capsule (KC), a Chinese patent medicine, in add-back therapy for gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) treatment for moderate-severe endometriosis (EM). METHODS: Totally 100 patients suffering from stage III/IV EM, who were confirmed by laparoscopic surgery were randomly assigned to the GnRH-a group (A) and the KC combined GnRH-a group (B), 50 in each group. Patients in Group A were hypodermically injected with goserelin (3.6 mg), once per 4 weeks. Those in Group B additionally took KC, 4 pills each time, three times per day. The therapeutic course for all was 12 weeks. Serum levels of estradiol (E2), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), bone gamma-carboxyglutamic-acid-containing proteins (BGP) were measured respectively. Kupperman Menopausal Index (KMI) and bone mineral density (BMD) of the lumbar vertebra were also compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Serum levels of E2 and FSH both significantly decreased in the two groups at week 12 of the treatment (P < 0.05), when compared with pre-treatment. Compared with before treatment in the same group, KMI increased in the two groups (P < 0.05). Compared with before treatment in the same group, BMI decreased in the two groups with no statistical difference (P > 0.05). Serum BGP increased after 12-week treatment (P < 0.05). Compared with Group A after treatment, serum levels of E2 and FSH both significantly increased in Group B (P < 0.05). There was no statistical difference in KMI between the two groups (P > 0.05). As for the incidence of menopausal symptoms, better effects in improving symptoms such as hot flashes, sleep disorders, and vaginal dryness were obtained in Group B than in Group A (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the post-pre-treatment difference of BMI between the two groups, but with statistical post-pre-treatment difference in the BGP level (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: HKC combined GnRH-a could effectively reduce GnRH-a treatment induced partial low estrogen symptoms, improve increased serum BGP levels after GnRH-a therapy.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of Herba Siegesbeckiae extracts on mouse rheumatoid arthritis induced by arthrogen-CIA monoclonal antibody. METHODS: The rheumatoid arthritis was induced by arthrogen-CIA arthritogenic monoclonal antibody in mice. The sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to determine the concentration of IL-1ßin mouse serum, and the content of IL-6,IL-17 and MMP-3 in supernatant of tissue homogenate of hind limb below the stifle of mice. One-way ANOVA was used for data analysis. RESULTS: The toe swelling was attenuated in Siegesbeckiae group than that in model group [(0.218 ± 0.0307)cm(3) compared with (0.2545 ± 0.0179)cm(3), P<0.05]. The serum IL-1ß level in Siegesbeckiae group was lower than that in model group [(63.74 ± 21.74)pg/ml compared with (104.96 ± 31.22)pg/ml, P<0.01]. The contents of IL-6, IL-17 and MMP-3 in tissue supernatants of Siegesbeckiae group were all lower than those of model group [(171.10 ± 48.35)pg/ml compared with (249.64 ± 75.08)pg/ml, P<0.05; (115.42 ± 56.52)pg/ml compared with (208.40 ± 88.54)pg/ml, P<0.05;(3660.31 ± 1680.99) pg/ml compared with (5420.79 ± 1201.43)pg/ml, P<0.05, respectively]. CONCLUSION: The extract of Herba Siegesbeckiae has anti-inflammatory effect on mouse rheumatoid arthritis induced by mixed arthrogen monoclonal antibody.

RESUMEN

Here we describe an easily implemented protocol based on sparse MR acquisition and a scrambled 'music' auditory stimulus that allows for reliable measurement of functional activity within the medial geniculate body (MGB, the primary auditory thalamic nucleus) in individual subjects. We find that our method is equally accurate and reliable as previously developed structural methods, and offers significantly more accuracy in identifying the MGB than group based methods. We also find that lateralization and binaural summation within the MGB resemble those found in the auditory cortex.
