RESUMEN

Five Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, non-motile actinobacterial strains designated as CPCC 205763T, CPCC 203386T, CPCC 205716T, CPCC 203406T, and CPCC 203407 were obtained from different ecosystems associated with four kinds of Chinese traditional medicinal plants. The 16S rRNA gene sequences of these five strains showed closely related to members of the genus Herbiconiux of the family Microbacteriaceae, with the highest similarities of 97.4-99.7% to the four validly named species of Herbiconiux. In the phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and the core genome, these isolates clustered into the clade of the genus Herbiconiux within the lineage of the family Microbacteriaceae. The overall genome relatedness indexes (values of ANI and dDDH) and the phenotypic properties (morphological, physiological and chemotaxonomic characteristics) of these isolates, readily supported to affiliate them to the genus Herbiconiux, representing four novel species, with the isolates CPCC 203406T and CPCC 203407 being classified in the same species. For which the names Herbiconiux aconitum sp. nov. (type strain CPCC 205763T = I19A-01430T = CGMCC 1.60067T), Herbiconiux daphne sp. nov. (type strain CPCC 203386T = I10A-01569T = DSM 24546T = KCTC 19839T), Herbiconiux gentiana sp. nov. (type strain CPCC 205716T = I21A-01427T = CGMCC 1.60064T), and Herbiconiux oxytropis sp. nov. (type strain CPCC 203406T = I10A-02268T = DSM 24549T = KCTC 19840T) were proposed, respectively. In the genomes of these five strains, the putative encoding genes for amidase, endoglucanase, phosphatase, and superoxidative dismutase were retrieved, which were classified as biosynthetic genes/gene-clusters regarding plant growth-promotion (PGP) functions. The positive results from IAA-producing, cellulose-degrading and anti-oxidation experiments further approved their potential PGP bio-functions. Pangenome analysis of the genus Herbiconiux supported the polyphasic taxonomy results and confirmed their bio-function potential.

RESUMEN

Stenotrophomonas spp. have primarily been reported as non-pathogenic, plant-probiotic bacteria, despite the presence of some opportunistic human pathogens in the genus. Here, three Gram-stain negative, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacteria, designated as strains CPCC 101365T, CPCC 101269T, and CPCC 101426 were isolated from surface-sterilized medicinal plant roots of a mulberry plant in Chuxiong of the Yunnan Province, freshwater from Erhai Lake in the Yunnan Province, and sandy soils in the Badain Jaran desert in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China, respectively. The 16S rRNA gene sequences analysis of these isolates in comparison with sequences from the GenBank database indicated that they belong to the genus Stenotrophomonas, with nucleotide similarities of 96.52-99.92% to identified Stenotrophomonas members. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene and genome sequences confirmed that the isolates are members of the genus Stenotrophomonas. Values for genomic average nucleotide identity (ANI; <95%) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH; < 70%) indicated that strains CPCC 101365T and CPCC 101269T were well-differentiated from validly described Stenotrophomonas species, while strain CPCC 101426 shared high ANI (97.7%) and dDDH (78.3%) identity with its closest phylogenetic neighbor, Stenotrophomonas koreensis JCM 13256T. The three genomes were approximately 3.1-4.0 Mbp in size and their G + C content ranged in 66.2-70.2%, with values slightly differing between CPCC 101365T (3.4 Mbp; 70.2%), CPCC 101269T (4.0 Mbp; 66.4%), and CPCC 101426 (3.1 Mbp; 66.2%). Genes encoding enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and siderophores were identified in the genomes of the three isolates, suggesting that these strains might serve roles as plant-growth promoting microorganisms. The polar lipid fractions of the three isolates primarily comprised diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). The predominant cellular fatty acid was iso-C15: 0, with moderate amounts of antesio-C15: 0, iso-C11: 0, iso C17: 1 É·9c/C16: 0 10-methyl, iso-C14: 0, and C16: 1 É·7c/C16: 1 É·6c. These results indicated that polyphasic characteristics of strains CPCC 101365T and CPCC 101269T differed from other identified Stenotrophomonas species and that strain CPCC 101426 was affiliated with the species Stenotrophomonas koreensis. Accordingly, two novel species of the genus Stenotrophomonas were consequently proposed, corresponding to Stenotrophomonas mori sp. nov. (type strain CPCC 101365T = DY006T = KCTC 82900T) and Stenotrophomonas lacuserhaii sp. nov. (type strain CPCC 101269T = K32T = KCTC 82901T). Highlights: Members of the genus Stenotrophomonas, and particularly Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, are opportunistic human pathogens, but not enough research has evaluated the identification of environmental Stenotrophomonas spp. However, most Stenotrophomonas spp. serves as plant-probiotic bacteria. In this study, we obtained and characterized three Stenotrophomonas strains from different ecosystems. Based on phenotypic differences, chemotaxonomic properties, ANI and dDDH identity values, and phylogenetic analyses, two novel Stenotrophomonas species are proposed for the strains identified here. The encoding genes related to plant-growth promotion in the genomes of the newly recovered Stenotrophomonas spp. were retrieved. Follow-on experiments confirmed that these strains produced the important plant hormone IAA. Thus, these Stenotrophomonas spp. could considerably contribute to shaping and maintaining ecological stability in plant-associated environments, particularly while acting as plant-probiotic microorganisms.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to validate the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria and determine the number of Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 (NRS2002)-positive patients who do not meet the GLIM, as well as examine whether these patients would benefit from nutritional support therapy. METHODS: A reanalysis of a published prospective observational study was performed. The subjects were rediagnosed per the NRS2002 and GLIM criteria. The prevalence of malnutrition was reported, and the difference in rate of infection complications and total complications between the nutritional support therapy and glucose-electrolyte cohorts was calculated. RESULTS: Among 1831 cases in the original database, 827 cases (45.2%) were NRS2002-positive. A total of 391 cases were identified by the GLIM criteria as malnourished (21.4%) and of these, subjects in the nutritional support therapy cohort had fewer infection complications than those in the glucose-electrolyte cohort (13.0% vs. 23.0%; P = 0.010). The remaining 436 patients were NRS2002 positive but GLIM negative (23.8%). The rate of infection was also significantly lower in the support cohort than in the nonsupport cohort (8.0% vs. 15.7%; P = 0.011). Nutritional support was proven o be a protective factor for infection complications in both GLIM-positive (odds ratio: 0.407; 95% confidence interval, 0.232-0.714; P = 0.002) and NRS2002-positive/GLIM-negative patients [odds ratio: 0.314; 95% confidence interval, 0.161-0.612; P = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The GLIM criteria have been validated, and are useful in identifying malnourished patients who may have fewer infection complications due to nutritional support therapy. However, the criteria neglected half of the patients identified by NRS2002, among whom nutritional support therapy also decreased the rate of infection complications.

RESUMEN

Objective The experiment was designed to study the therapeutic mechanism of "Tong Tiao" acupuncture in the treatment of mammary gland hyperplasia (MGH) on the rat model. Methods A total of 75 healthy unpregnant female SD rats were randomly divided into six groups: blank, model, control group, vagus cutting therapy, sham operation, and vagus cutting with non-treatment group. All the groups except the blank group were prepared by MGH rat model. The vagus cutting therapy and vagus cutting with non-treatment group were treated by cutting the right cervical vagus nerve, while the sham operation group was treated by exposing the vagus nerve without any operation. All the treatment groups were treated with "Tong Tiao". The rat papillary height was measured. The breast tissue morphology and breast ultrastructure were observated. And the flow cytometry in rat peripheral blood T lymphocyte subsets CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+/CD8+ were calculated. Results Compared with the model group, the papillary height (1.22 mm ± 0.21 mm,1.24 mm ± 0.20 mmvs. 1.53 mm ± 0.16 mm) in the normal treatment and the sham treatment group decreased significantly the vagus cutting therapy and vagus cutting non-treatment group showed no difference (P>0.05). Compared with the model group, the Mammary gland morphology and ultrastructure in the normal treatment group, the sham operation group and the vagus cutting therapy groups were improved, but the vagus cutting non-treatment group showed on improvement. Compared with model group, the serum CD3+(61.5% ± 10.5%, 61.1% ± 12.4%, 59.8% ± 11.8%vs. 57.7% ± 9.4%), CD4+(37.2% ± 8.9%, 37.9% ± 10.9%, 36.1% ± 12.2% vs. 34.6% ± 6.9%), CD4+/CD8+(1.59 ± 0.8, 1.58 ± 0.8, 1.38 ± 0.6vs. 1.23 ± 0.7) in the normal treatment group, the sham treatment group and vagus cutting therapy group, elevated significantly (P<0.01,P<0.05), while the vagus cutting non-treatment group showed no difference (P>0.05). Compared with model group, the serum CD8+ (24.2% ± 11.3%, 24.5% ± 10.6%,25.5% ± 8.8%vs. 27.7% ± 9.9%) in the normal treatment group, sham treatment group and vagus cutting therapy group decreased significantly lower (P<0.01,P<0.05), but vagus cutting non treatment group showed no difference (P>0.05). Conclusions the mechanism of acupuncture treatment for MGH may be related to the vagus nerve by regulating the CD3+, CD4+, CD8+ and CD4+/CD8+ levels of T lymphocytes.

RESUMEN

It's been confirmed that acupuncture-moxibustion is effective in treating primary dysmenorrhea, and the efficacy is closely related to the intervention time. By summarizing the latest research progress on real-time intervention and pre-intervention of acupuncture-moxibustion in treating primary dysmenorrhea, this articlewas to discuss about the effect of intervention time on the efficacy in treating primary dysmenorrhea and thus to provide evidence to choose the optimal intervention time. It brought up that real-time intervention of acupuncture-moxibustion can produce a significant analgesic effect in treating primary dysmenorrhea, while pre-intervention of acupuncture-moxibustion presents its advantages in generally regulating the body function. Therefore, the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea should combine real-time intervention and pre-intervention of acupuncture-moxibustion to enhance the clinical efficacy.

RESUMEN

Objective To observe the analgesic effect of acupuncture at Guanyuan (CV4) and its effect on vasomotor substances in rats with dysmenorrhea due to coagulated cold syndrome. Method The coagulated-cold dysmenorrhea rat model was developed by Estrodiol benzoate and Oxytocin injectin plus physical freezing. The writhing response (writhing latency, writhing frequency, and writhing score) was observed, and the contents of TXB2 and 6-keto-PGF1a were detected by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Result Compared with the saline water group, the writhing latency was significantly shortened, the writhing frequency was significantly increased, and the writhing score was more significantly increased in the model group (P0.05) in the model group. Compared with the model group, the content of plasma 6-keto-PGF1a showed an increasing tendency (P>0.05) and the content of plasma TXB2 showed a decreasing tendency (P>0.05) in the acupuncture group. Conclusion The vasomotor substances are obviously disordered in the blood of cold-coagulated dysmenorrhea rat models. Acupuncture at Guanyuan can improve the writhing response and release pain, and meanwhile positively regulate the vasomotor substances such as TXB2 and 6-keto-PGF1a. The vasomotor substances are plausibly one of the major substances in the action of acupuncture in preventing and treating dysmenorrhea.

RESUMEN

Objective By using infrared thermal imager (Flir-SC620), to observe the effect of needling Sanyinjiao (SP6) on the skin temperature at Guanyuan (CV4) and Sanyinjiao in patients with primary dysmenorrhea (PD) of cold and dampness stagnation pattern, and to explore the probability of using infrared thermal imaging for diagnosis and as an objective index for evaluating the action and needling qi of acupuncture. Method Thirty-six subjects were recruited and divided into four group, a health control group (group A), a control group of PD of cold and dampness stagnation pattern (group B), a needling-qi-expected group (group C) and a needling-qi-unexpected group (group D). Group A and B were not given acupuncture treatment, while group C and D were treated with acupuncture at bilateral Sanyinjiao with needles retained for 30 min, and the needling sensations were recorded. The infrared thermal imager was used to detect the skin temperature at Guanyuan and bilateral Sanyinjiao for 40 min for each group, and the temperature was recorded every 10 min. The temperature during different periods of time, 0-10 min, 20-20 min, 20-30 min, 30-40 min, 0-30 min, and 0-40 min were then calculated. In group C, those obtained the needling qi sensation were further grouped into C-1 and those didn’t obtain the sensation were into C-2; in group D, those obtained needling qi sensation were further grouped into D-1 and those didn’t obtain the sensation were into D-2. SPSS 17.0 was adopted for data processing, and the data were analyzed by using MANOVA of repeated measuring. Result Compared to group A (6 cases), the temperature at Guanyuan in group B (6 cases) was significantly decreased during 0-30 min and 0-40 min (P<0.05), the temperature at the left Sanyinjiao during 0-40 min in group B was significantly decreased (P<0.05), and the temperatures at bilateral Sanyinjiao during 30-40 min in group B significantly dropped (P<0.05). Compared to group B, the temperatures at Guanyuan during 0-30 min and 0-40 min in group C1 (12 cases) and group D1 (11 cases) were significantly increased (P<0.05), the temperature at left Sanyinjiao during 0-40 min in group D1 was significantly increased (P<0.05), and the temperatures at bilateral Sanyinjiao during 30-40 min in group D1 were significantly increased (P<0.05). There was no case in group C2 and only 1 case in group D2, hence, the data were not enough for analysis. Conclusion Decrease of the infrared temperature at Guanyuan and Sanyinjiao can be taken as one of the diagnostic criteria for dysmenorrhea of cold stagnation pattern. Increase of the infrared temperature at Guanyuan can be regarded as one of the objective evidences for the along-meridian transmission characteristic in needling Sanyinjiao.

RESUMEN

Qi arrival is the meridian qi response to acupuncture stimulation. Through analyzing the relevant concepts of qi arrival and summarizing the general understanding of it in clinic and on the basis of the collection of the relevant literature at home and abroad on the determination of qi arrival and its strength, the characteristics are analyzed on the present method and the method for the determination of qi arrival and its strength is discussed in terms of the results in the needling sensation scale. It is believed that the needling sensation and its strength can be used to determine whether the qi is arrived or not and its strength. The components of different types of needling sensation are much better applicable for the analysis on the characteristics and rules on the influence on qi arrival. This method is in compliance not only with the theoretic connotation of qi arrival, but also with the clinical general understanding, which lays the foundation for the analysis on the scale results.

RESUMEN

Prediabetes is an abnormal condition between normal glucose metabolism and diabetes mellitus. Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) is an indicator of high-risk state of prediabetes. Positive interventions of IGT, including life style changes and pharmacological intervention, can effectively postpone and reduce the development of prediabetes into type 2 diabetes mellitus, suggesting that IGT is a key point of diabetes prevention. Currently, pharmacological intervention for prediabetes is still at early stage. In this review, we summarizes recent clinical and preclinical studies on pharmacological intervention for prediabetes, and studies in the development of animal models with IGT and the application of new techniques. We also discuss the prospects of drugs for diabetes prevention, especially with the traditional Chinese medicine.

RESUMEN

From the time of Neijing (Internal Classic) and Nanjing (Classic of Medical Problems) till the end of Qing dynasty, the medical scholars of each dynasty had taken the recognition of deqi as the subject in the stud- ies. Through the historical analysis, the content of regulating deqi was further understood in relevant ancient liter- ature. By checking the ancient works of acupuncture in each dynasty till the end of Qing dynasty, in reference to the evidences in over 10 works, such as Zhenjiu Dacheng (Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) , Zhenjing Zhinan (Instruction of Acupuncture Canon), Zhenjiu Daquan, and in association with the academic views of acupuncture masters in modern time, it was discovered that the medical scholars after the time of Neijing and Nanjing had enriched the understandings of deqi, such as the connection of cold and heat reaction, radiation to the affected site, reinforcing and reducing purpose in qi regulation. The methods of deqi regulations had, been explored till the end of Qing dynasty since the time of Neijing and Nanjing and the understandings of it were vari- ous among scholars.

RESUMEN

Objective To explore the feasibility of using short-latency somatosensory evoked potentials (SLSEP) to quantitate Deqi. Methods A randomized crossover controlled trial was carried out. Healthy subjects were enrolled and allocated to treatment (thick needle, deep insertion and manipulation for Deqi) and control (thin needle, shallow insertion and no manipulation without Deqi) groups. Somatosensory evoked potentials were recorded before, during and after acupuncture. Deqi was assessed using the score scale in the subjets. The effects of Deqi and no Deqi at point Sanyinjiao (SP 6) on the potentials were observed. Results The preliminary exploration of the feasibility by the trial test showed that the effect of Deqi on short-latency somatosensory evoked potentials had certain regularity. It was worthy to be observed. Conclusion The plan is feasible. The formal test can be conducted.

RESUMEN

Acupuncture-moxibustion theory believes that needling sensation is a crucial factor in influencing acupuncture efficacy. Judgment of occurrence of needling qi (qualitative measurement) and the intensity of needling qi (quantitative measurement) is the key section in studying the relationship between needling qi and efficacy. According to the relevant literatures, the judgment of the occurrence of needling qi mostly depended on the needling sensations, while a small amount of researches mentioned self-determined threshold or range of needling qi; the quantity of needling qi was measured by factor analysis, Massachusetts General Hospital Acupuncture Sensation Scale (MASS) based on exponential smoothing method, weighted average, addition of needling sensation score, etc. This article holds that the needling qi should be divided into two parts: overall needling qi and needling sensation components, the former referring to the occurrence and intensity of needling qi, and the latter for judging the different sensations and intensity. Currently, the studies on needling qi and efficacy should begin with single treatment at single point and multiple treatments at multiple points, to generally estimate the quality and quantity of needling qi, for seeking a qualitative and quantitative measurement in accordance with both acupuncture-moxibustion theory and clinical practice.

RESUMEN

Objective To compare the cumulative analgesic effects of electroacupuncture at Sanyinjiao (SP6), Xuanzhong (GB39) and non-acupoint in treating primary dysmenorrhea. Method By adopting a multi-centered randomized controlled study method, 501 patients recruited from Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Capital Medical University, First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Huguosi Hospital of Chinese Medicine of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and the Outpatient of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were randomized into a Sanyinjiao group, a Xuanzhong group, and a non-acupoint group, 167 subjects in each group. The electroacupuncture intervention was applied when dysmenorrhea flared up and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) ≥40 mm, with frequency at 2/100 Hz and intensity during patient’s endurance, 30 min each time, once a day, and for successive 3 d. Before the first treatment, 30 min after the first treatment, and respectively prior to the second and third treatment, VAS was used to measure the pain intensity. Meanwhile, the Retrospective Symptom Scale (RSS-COX 2) was investigated before the first treatment, right after the removal of needles for the first treatment, before the second and third treatment. Result The decrease of VAS in Sanyinjiao group was more significant than that in Xuanzhong group and non-acupoint group (MD=﹣2.92 mm, P=0.028; MD=﹣3.47 mm, P=0.009), while there was no significant difference between Xuanzhong group and non-acupoint group (MD=﹣0.56 mm, P=0.674); there were no significant differences in comparing the RSS-COX2 total score among the three groups (P=0.086). Conclusion Sanyinjiao (SP6) can produce a more significant cumulative analgesic effect for primary dysmenorrhea patient than Xuanzhong and non-acupoint, and the effects of Xuanzhong and non-acupoit are equivalent.

RESUMEN

Objective To discuss the relationships between qi-arrival and mind-control, qi-arrival and qi-regulation, and to define qi-arrival by tracing the relevant records in Nei Jing (Classic of Internal Medicine) and Nan Jing (Classic of Difficult Issues). Method Thirty-seven relevant ancient books of the two classics were reviewed and the notes by WANG Bing, MA Shi, and YANG Shang-shan were referred. Result Mind-control requires the spirits of the practitioner, patient and environment, as well as observing and waiting for the arrival of qi. Regarding qi-regulation, theories involve that qi-arrival achieves same reinforcing and reducing effect as qi-regulation, qi-regulation is elucidated from the correct location of acupoint, proper needling depth and direction, and to regulate qi by observing the arrival of qi. Besides, the changes of internal and external environments also influence qi-arrival via qi-regulation and mind-control. Conclusion Qi-arrival is closely related to mind-control and qi-regulation in obtaining, differentiation, and adjustment. Mind-control and qi-regulation assist each other through the whole acupuncture process, which is the core of qi-arrival.

RESUMEN

Acupuncturists have always paid high attention to deqi (needling sensation) in clinical. However, relationship between deqi and curative effect has not been elucidated yet. In order to have a further understanding on effect of deqi on clinical effect, through study on literature associated with deqi since the establishment of People's Republic of China in 1949, it is held that various factors can influence therapeutic effect of acupuncture treatment, including whether needling sensation appears or not, the speed of deqi, the intensity of deqi, different types of sensations as well as propagated sensation along meridians (PSM). Joint launched multidisciplinary researches should be carried out to reveal the influence principle of deqi on acupuncture effect, and to lay foundations for the further studies on mechanism of deqi.
