RESUMEN

Dystonia is characterized by sustained or intermittent involuntary muscle contractions. Psychiatric symptoms are essential non-motor features of dystonia, and higher risks of depressive and anxiety disorders have been reported. The precedence of psychiatric to motor symptoms in some patients and the dopaminergic and serotonergic system involvement in both the motor and psychiatric aspects suggest these psychiatric disorders may be intrinsic to the neurobiology of dystonia. Nevertheless, psychiatric comorbidities are often construed as secondary reactions to motor disabilities and the negative bio-psycho-social impacts of dystonia, leading to underdiagnosis and undertreatment. Research on antidepressant use in dystonia is scarce, especially in children and adolescents. This report presents a 17-year-old female with dystonia comorbid with depression with psychotic features, whose motor symptoms improved but psychiatric symptoms persisted with dopaminergic pharmacotherapy. Sertraline was finally added 5 years after the onset and successfully managed her psychotic depression without worsening motor symptoms. Early detection, prompt diagnosis, and timely holistic treatment with dopaminergic agents, antidepressants, and psychosocial interventions are critical for the mental health of dystonia patients.

RESUMEN

Sporopollenin in the pollen cell wall protects male gametophytes from stresses. Phenylpropanoid derivatives, including guaiacyl (G) lignin units, are known to be structural components of sporopollenin, but the exact composition of sporopollenin remains to be fully resolved. We analyzed the phenylpropanoid derivatives in sporopollenin from maize and Arabidopsis by thioacidolysis coupled with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The NMR and GC-MS results confirmed the presence of p-hydroxyphenyl (H), G, and syringyl (S) lignin units in sporopollenin from maize and Arabidopsis. Strikingly, H units account for the majority of lignin monomers in sporopollenin from these species. We next performed a genome-wide association study to explore the genetic basis of maize sporopollenin composition and identified a vesicle-associated membrane protein (ZmVAMP726) that is strongly associated with lignin monomer composition of maize sporopollenin. Genetic manipulation of VAMP726 affected not only lignin monomer composition in sporopollenin but also pollen resistance to heat and UV radiation in maize and Arabidopsis, indicating that VAMP726 is functionally conserved in monocot and dicot plants. Our work provides new insight into the lignin monomers that serve as structural components of sporopollenin and characterizes VAMP726, which affects sporopollenin composition and stress resistance in pollen.

RESUMEN

Gout is the second largest metabolic disease in China, which can cause joint tissue damage and a variety of chronic diseases, and seriously affect human life and health. The increase in uric acid caused by disorder of purine metabolism or abnormal uric acid excretion is the biochemical basis of its pathogenesis. Western medical treatment mainly uses anti-inflammatory drugs such as colchicine, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and uric acid lowering drugs such as febuxostat and benzbromarone, which have obvious effects, but there are problems such as easy to recurrence after drug withdrawal and more adverse reactions. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a long history in the treatment of gout, and has the advantages of multi-channel, multi-target, and multi-level symptomatic treatment. It exerts therapeutic effects through lowering uric acid, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidation, and protecting the kidneys. Its curative effect is obvious and the adverse reaction rate is low. In recent years, there have been many studies on the mechanism of TCM for gout animal models. Based on the review of relevant literature in recent years, this article has systematically sorted out the pathogenesis of gout, the mechanism of TCM for gout and related experimental design. The paper summarized and analyzed the mechanism of TCM in the treatment of gout from the aspects of regulating the level of inflammatory factors, inhibiting oxidation reaction, reducing uric acid and regulating signaling pathway, so as to provide reference for the research and development of drugs for gout.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Numerous clinical data have shown that electro-acupuncture in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis has the advantages of fast onset, good therapeutic effect and less side effects, but there is a lack of multicenter large-sample clinical research regarding the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate the effect of electro-acupuncture on pain relief and joint function in patients with knee osteoarthritis by meta-analysis. METHODS: The literatures related to clinical randomized controlled trials of electro-acupuncture treatment of knee osteoarthritis were retrieved in CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, PubMed, Embase and Cochrance Library database from the inception to June 2019. After literature screening, a meta-analysis of included studies was carried out using Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Finally, 11 articles were included in the study, with 721 cases of knee osteoarthritis. There were 366 cases in the electro-acupuncture group and 361 in the control group with routine acupuncture or drug treatment. Compared with the control group, the total effective rate, cure rate, visual analogue scale score, WOMAC score and ISOA score in the electro-acupuncture group were significantly higher than those in the control group [odds ratio (OR)=3.22, 95% confidence interval (CI)(2.13, 4.87), Z=5.53, P < 0.000 01; OR=2.73, 95%CI(1.80, 4.15), Z=4.72, P < 0.000 01; mean difference (MD)=-1.00, 95%CI(-1.71, -0.30), Z=2.80, P=0.005; MD=-7.69, 95%CI(-10.31, -5.07), Z=5.75, P < 0.000 01; MD=-2.22, 95%CI(-3.74, -0.70), Z=2.86, P=0.004]. Based on the evidence of meta-analysis, the short-term effect of electro-acupuncture on knee osteoarthritis is definite, and electro-acupuncture can play a positive effect on pain symptoms and joint function of knee osteoarthritis patients with few adverse reactions. Considering small sample size, low-quality literatures and possible presence of bias factors, further investigations on more high-quality randomized controlled trials are warranted.

RESUMEN

Near infrared spectroscopy(NIRS) was used for rapid quantitative analysis of saponins in Pien Tze Huang troches and powders. The near infrared spectra of Pien Tze Huang were collected, and the contents of notoginsenoside R1,ginsenoside Rg1 and ginsenoside Rb1 in Pien Tze Huang were determined by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) as the reference values. Then the near infrared spectra of the samples were associated with the reference values to establish the quantitative analysis models by using partial least squares(PLS) method. Finally, the models were verified by unknown samples. The results showed that root mean square error of cross-validation(RMSECV) of R1,Rg1,Rb1 and the total content was 0.095 1,0.555,0.414,0.960 mg·g-1 for the troches models,0.085 6,0.443,0.405,0.913 mg·g-1 for the powders models. After external validations, root mean square error of prediction(RMSEP) of R1,Rg1,Rb1 and the total content was 0.111,0.274,0.276,0.807 mg·g-1 for the troches models,0. 059 2,0. 322,0. 327,0. 705 mg·g-1 for the powders models. The averages of relative standard deviation between the predicted values and the chemical measured values were all less than 2.0%. According to the results of paired-t tests at the level of α = 0.05,there were no significant differences between the predicted values and the measured values. The established quantitative analysis models can be used to predict the contents of saponins in Pien Tze Huang accurately and the proposed method is simple,fast,non-destructive and environmentally friendly for the rapid detection and quality control of saponins in Pien Tze Huang.

RESUMEN

To study the effects of fresh-cut drying methods on the appearance and internal components of Panax notoginseng, and explore the feasibility of fresh-cut drying methods of P. notoginseng, so as to provide more effective processing methods for the production of P. notoginseng slices and Chinese patent medicines. In this study, we have compared the effects of 6 different drying methods on drying time, drying rate, density, appearance and internal components of P. notoginseng roots. It takes about 453 h to dry by whole-root drying in the sun, with a long constant speed period and a slow drying rate, the time of whole-root drying at 50 ℃ was shortened by 61.6% compared with whole-root drying in the sun, which resulted in the decrease of density and poor appearance of the medicinal material with hollow and crack appeared in the xylem, while the drying time of fresh-cut drying method was reduced by 61.82% to 91.58% and the drying rate increased greatly, due to the relatively slow drying process in the sun or in the shade after fresh-cut, salting-out and whitening appeared on the surface, and the internal components were all decreased to some extent. The drying time of fresh-cut drying at 50 ℃ was 91.58% and 68.83% shorter than that of whole-root drying in the sun and at 50 ℃, respectively. When drying at 50 ℃ after fresh-cut, the appearance and content of internal components of the medicinal materials were better, the appearance was yellowish green, the cut sections were clear with uniform pore distribution, and the content of saponin components was increased by 7.24% compared with that of the whole-root drying at 50 ℃, When drying at 40 ℃, the surface of slices has salting-out and whitening spots, and the loss of dencichine and total sugar was large, but at 60 ℃, this high temperature made the rate of dehydration of slices was extremely fast, which led to severe cracking and fragmentation, and the loss of total sugar and alcohol extract was large. By vacuum freeze drying after fresh-cut, the structure of medicinal materials slices was loose, the density was greatly reduced, and the appearance was different from those recorded in traditional books. The contents of total saponin components and dencichine were increased by 16.51% and 22.54%, respectively, compared with traditional whole-root drying. The fresh-cut process method is feasible in the production of P. notoginseng slices. In production, it is recommended that drying at 50 ℃ after fresh-cut can make the medicinal materials better in appearance and content of internal components, which is convenient for the subsequent processing and industrial feeding extraction. For the purpose of internal contents, it is better to adopt freeze-drying after fresh-cut processing method.

RESUMEN

Benzo[α]pyrene (BaP) is a well-known carcinogen in edible oil. In this study, a method combined solid-phase extraction (SPE) with fluorescent detection was developed using tetraoxocalix[2]arene[2]triazine sorbent (SiO2-OCA) for the clean-up and enrichment of BaP. The interaction between SiO2-OCA and BaP involves a donor-acceptor complex mechanism. The experimental procedure was as follows: BaP was extracted from edible oil with DMF/H2O (9:1, v/v). Then, the ratio of DMF/H2O was adjusted to 1:2 prior to SPE. The final concentrate was analysed using a fluorescence detector at excitation and emission wavelengths of 255 and 420 nm. The method was fully validated. The linearity was in the range of 0.1-100 µg kg-1 with a coefficient of 0.999. The limits of detection and quantification were 0.03 and 0.1 µg kg-1, respectively. The average recoveries were in the range of 88.0 - 122.3%. The intraday and interday precisions were 6.8% and 9.2%, respectively. Compared with other methods, the method reported in this article shows a good detection limit, high reproducibility and recovery and linearity over a broad concentration range. This established method was also applied to evaluate real samples. The concentration of six tested samples was below 5 µg kg-1.

RESUMEN

Circular bubble plume diffusers have been confirmed as an effective technology for the restoration of the deep water system, but have never been applied in sub-deep water system. In this study, circular bubble plume diffusers were used, for the first time, to restore water quality in the Aha Reservoir, a typical sub-deep reservoir in Southwest China. Axisymmetric intrusive gravity currents were formed with a horizontal radius of 250 m at the equilibrium depth and the intrusion of oxygen-enriched water occurred within the depth of 10-14 m, while thermal stratification remained intact. A total of 95% of the imported oxygen was dissolved, but most was consumed by organic matter and other reduced substances within the hypolimnion. The oxygen consumption of organic matter, NH4⁺ and remaining reduced materials, accounted for 41.4-52.5%, 25% and 13.3-24.4% of the total imported oxygen, respectively. Compared with the control sites, dissolved oxygen level in the hypolimnion increased 3-4 times, and concentrations of NH4⁺, total Fe and total Mn were reduced by 15.5%, 45.5% and 48.9%, respectively. A significant decrease in total phosphorus and nitrogen concentrations was observed in the experimental zone (0.04-0.02 mg/L and 1.9-1.7 mg/L, respectively). This indicates that circular bubble plumes have great potential for oxygenation of the hypolimnion and improving water quality in the sub-deep water system. Nevertheless, further efforts are needed to improve the discrete bubble model to elaborate the oxygen transmission dynamics and the plume formation processes in sub-deep water systems, incorporating oxygen consumption processes.

RESUMEN

In order to obtain the fungicides with minimal impact on efficiency of mycorrhizal symbiosis, the effect of five fungicides including polyoxins, jinggangmycins, thiophanate methylate, chlorothalonil and carbendazim on the growth of medicinal plant and efficiency of mycorrhizal symbiosis were studied. Pot cultured Glycyrrhiza uralensis was treated with different fungicides with the concentration that commonly used in the field. 60 d after treated with fungicides, infection rate, infection density, biomass indexes, photosyn- thetic index and the content of active component were measured. Experimental results showed that carbendazim had the strongest inhibition on mycorrhizal symbiosis effect. Carbendazim significantly inhibited the mycorrhizal infection rate, significantly suppressed the actual photosynthetic efficiency of G. uralensis and the most indicators of biomass. Polyoxins showed the lowest inhibiting affection. Polyoxins had no significant effect on mycorrhizal infection rate, the actual photosynthetic efficiency of G. uralensis and the most indicators of biomass. The other three fungicides also had an inhibitory effect on efficiency of mycorrhizal symbiosis, and the inhibition degrees were all between polyoxins's and carbendazim's. The author considered that fungicide's inhibition degree on mycorrhizal effect might be related with the species of fungicides, so the author suggested that the farmer should try to choose bio-fungicides like polyoxins.

RESUMEN

To investigate the suitable site environment for Atractylodes lancea, field trials in different niches was carried out, and the seedling growth, biomass and volatile oil components in different microhabitas was studied. The study found that the survival rate, plant height, volatile oil content of those which growing under the bamboo were significantly higher than those exposed in the open field. The survival rate understory was (76 ± 15.1) %, plant height understory was (77 ± 14. 8) cm and the summation of the four kinds of volatile oil content understory reached up to 4.09%; The same evaluation values of these indicators of the four faces in the open field respectively: survival rate is 30%, plant height was (77 ± 14.8) cm and the summation of the four kinds of volatile oil content was 2.24%. But, the yield of the understory (41 ± 22.3) g was significantly lower than those four faces in the open field (104.5 g) on the contrary. For the four open field towards, the yield of the east facing, which organic matter and other nutritional conditions were better than others, was significantly higher than those in the other facings. A. lancea was found to be an anti-poor and shading-like or growing in east facing slope herb through the correlation analysis of light, temperature, soil and leaf nutrients with seedling growth, biomass and volatile oil components. It also reminds us that the understory herb with high survival rate, low incidence, low management costs, and high medicinal ingredients, although it's production is not so high, but it can be improved by increased organic fertilizer. So the ecological planting patterns which can intercropping herbs with the forest was proposed.

Since the launch of GAP in CMM growing ten years ago, it has acquired great achievements, including: (1) The promulgation of a series of measures for the administration of the GAP approval in the CMM growing; (2) The expanded planting area of CMM; (3) The increased awareness of standardized CMM growing among farmers and enterprises; (4) The establishment of GAP implementation bases for CMM growing; (5) The improvement of theory and methodology for CMM growing; (6) The development of a large group of experts and scholars in GAP approval for CMM production. The problems existing in the production include: (1) A deep understanding of GAP and its certification is still needed; (2) The distribution of the certification base is not reasonable; (3) The geo-economics effect and the backward farming practices are thought to be the bottlenecks in the standardization of CMM growing and the scale production of CMM; (4) Low comparative effectiveness limits the development of the GAP; (5) The base of breeding improved variety is blank; (6) The immature of the cultivation technique lead to the risk of production process; (7) The degradation of soil microbial and the continuous cropping obstacle restrict the sustainable development of the GAP base. To further promote the health and orderly GAP in the CMM growing, the authors propose: (1) To change the mode of production; (2) To establish a sound standard system so as to ensure quality products for fair prices; (3) To fully consider the geo-economic culture and vigorously promote the definite cultivating of traditional Chinese medicinal materials; (4) To strengthen the transformation and generalization of basic researches and achievements, in order to provide technical support for the CMM production; (5) To deepen the understanding of GAP, to vigorously promote ecological planting and precision agriculture, in order to overcome the continuous cropping obstacle. The authors think that despite the fact that we are still facing with a huge array of management and technological problems, the GAP in the CMM growing has already enjoyed widespread support and showed great potential. In the future, with people's deeper understanding of GAP and the great progress of the science and technology, the GAP will constantly be fused with the theory, methodology and technology in the modern agriculture like precision agriculture, eco-agriculture and etc.
