RESUMEN

Proanthocyanidins (PCs) are natural antioxidant polyphenols and their effect on the regulation of blood lipids is still controversial. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of PCs on lipid metabolism. We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Chinese biomedical literature service system, China National Knowledge Internet, and Wanfang Data with no time restriction until March 18, 2022, using various forms of "proanthocyanidins" and "blood lipid" search terms. Randomized controlled trials investigating the relationship between PCs and lipid metabolism were included. The standard system of Cochrane Collaboration was used to assess the quality of studies. We standardized mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence interval (CI) using the random-effects model, Cohen approach. Seventeen studies (17 trials, N = 1138) fulfilled the eligibility criteria. PCs significantly reduced triglyceride, and increased recombinant apolipoprotein A1. Subgroup analysis showed a significant reduction in triglycerides in older adults (≥60 years) and total cholesterol for participants who were not overweight or obese (body mass index <24). An intervention duration of greater than 8 weeks reduced triglyceride and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels but increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Different doses of PCs could regulate triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol. PCs have beneficial effects on circulating lipids and may represent a new approach for treating or preventing lipid metabolism disorders. However, more high-quality studies are needed to confirm these results.

THE ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Diabetic chronic foot ulcers pose a significant therapeutic challenge as a result of the oxidative stress caused by hyperglycemia. Which impairs angiogenesis and delays wound healing, potentially leading to amputation. Gynura divaricata (L.) DC. (GD), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine with hypoglycemic effects, has been proposed as a potential therapeutic agent for diabetic wound healing. However, the underlying mechanisms of its effects remain unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY: In this study, we aimed to reveal the effect and potential mechanisms of GD on accelerating diabetic wound healing in vitro and in vivo. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The effects of GD on cell proliferation, apoptosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, migration, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and potential molecular mechanisms were investigated in high glucose (HG) stimulated human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) using CCK-8, flow cytometry assay, wound healing assay, immunofluorescence, DCFH-DA staining, JC-1 staining, and Western blot. Full-thickness skin defects were created in STZ-induced diabetic rats, and wound healing rate was tracked by photographing them every day. HE staining, immunohistochemistry, and Western blot were employed to investigate the effect and molecular mechanism of GD on wound healing in diabetic rats. RESULTS: GD significantly improved HUVEC survival, decreased apoptosis, lowered ROS production, restored MMP, improved migration ability, and raised VEGF expression. The use of Nrf2-siRNA completely abrogated these effects. Topical application of GD promoted angiogenesis and granulation tissue growth, resulting in faster healing of diabetic wounds. The expression of VEGF, CD31, and VEGFR was elevated in the skin tissue of diabetic rats after GD treatment, which upregulated HO-1, NQO-1, and Bcl-2 expression while downregulating Bax expression via activation of the Nrf2 signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study indicate that GD has the potential to serve as a viable alternative treatment for diabetic wounds. This potential arises from its ability to mitigate the negative effects of oxidative stress on angiogenesis, which is regulated by the Nrf2 signaling pathway. The results of our study offer valuable insights into the therapeutic efficacy of GD in the treatment of diabetic wounds, emphasizing the significance of directing interventions towards the Nrf2 signaling pathway to mitigate oxidative stress and facilitate the process of angiogenesis.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) stimulation on proliferation and diffe-rentiation of endogenous neural stem cells as well as Jagged1/Notch1 pathway in AD model mice, so as to explore its mechanism underlying amelioration of AD. METHODS: A total of 40 6-week-old male APP/PS1 transgenic AD mice were randomly divided into EA group (n=20) and AD model group ( n=20), and other 20 normal C57BL/6J mice of the same age were used as the normal control group. The mice in the EA group received EA (10 Hz, 2 mA) at "Baihui"(GV20), "Fengfu"(GV16) and bilateral "Shenshu" (BL23) for 20 min, once daily, 6 days a week for 16 weeks. The mice's learning-memory ability was detected by Morris water maze tests. The Aß senile plaques in the hippocampal CA1 region were detected by Congo red staining, the immunofluorescence double label of BrdU, neuronal nuclear antigen (NeuN) and astrocyte specific protein GFAP in dentate gyrus of hippocampus was performed for detecting the proliferation and differentiation of the endogenous neural stem cells. The expression levels of Nestin (neuron specific protein) and GFAP were detected by Western blot, and those of Jagged1 and Notch1 mRNAs and proteins in the hippocampus were detected by real-time fluorescence quantifative PCR and Western blot. RESULTS: Compared with the normal control group, the escape latencies at 2nd, 3rd and 4th day, and Aß senile plaques were significantly increased (P<0.05, P<0.01), whereas the platform crossing times and time spent in the target quadrant, the expression levels of Jagged1 mRNA and Nestin protein were remarkably down-regulated (P<0.05) in the model group. Following EA intervention, the escape latencies at the 3rd and 4th day, Aß senile plaques, immunofluorescence density of BrdU/GFAP, and GFAP protein expression were pronouncedly decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01), while the platform crossing times, platform quadrant residence time, immunofluorescence density of BrdU/NeuN, expression levels of Jagged1 and Notch1 mRNAs and proteins and Nestin protein evidently increased (P<0.05, P<0.01), suggesting an enhancement of proliferation and diffe-rentiation of endogenous neural stem cells into neurons and a suppression of the proliferation and differentiation towards astrocytes in the hippocampus. CONCLUSION: EA at GV20, GV16 and BL23 can improve the learning-memory ability, promote the proliferation and differentiation of endogenous neural stem cells towards neurons and inhibit the proliferation and differentiation of endogenous neural stem cells towards astrocytes in the hippocampus, which may be achieved by regulating Jagged1/Notch1 pathway.

The current guidelines recommend that people consume 2 or more servings of fat-rich fish per week to obtain enough omega-3 (ω-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids to prevent cardiovascular events. However, the cardiovascular benefits of ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in patients with diabetes are unclear, and related large-scale trials have produced conflicting results. We aimed to perform a meta-analysis of all randomized controlled trials that attempted to assess the effects of ω-3 fatty acid supplementation on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with diabetes. In PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library, we searched for data from all randomized controlled trials on ω-3 fatty acids and cardiovascular outcomes in patients with diabetes published before July 2022. Eight eligible studies involving 57,754 participants were ultimately included. Meta-analysis showed that ω-3 fatty acid supplementation reduces cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in patients with diabetes (rate ration [RR] = 0.93; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.90, 0.97; P = 0.0009). Among them, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), but not EPA plus docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), significantly reduced the risk of CVD in patients with diabetes (EPA [RR = 0.81; 95% CI: 0.73, 0.90; P=0.0001]). This meta-analysis suggests that ω-3 fatty acid supplementation is an effective strategy to prevent CVD in patients with diabetes, but further well-designed, large-scale randomized controlled trials are necessary to evaluate the safety of ω-3 fatty acid supplementation, and its effect on atrial fibrillation. This study was registered with PROSPERO as CRD42022346302.

Under the guidance of the "Sancai principle", based on the understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of the imbalance of muscles and bones in bi syndrome of neck region, holistic treatment should be used. The needle-knife release therapy is applied at corresponding acupoints in the three parts i.e. head, neck and back including Tiancai points (Naohu [GV 17] and Naokong [GB 19]), Rencai points (neck Jiaji [EX-B 2]), and Dicai points (Dazhui [GV 14], Quyuan [SI 13] and Tianzong [SI 11]). According to the layers of the lesion's meridians and muscles, the needle-knife is inserted into skin, muscle and bone to relax the tendons and treat bone disorders, and restore the normal mechanical balance of neck.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on the proliferation of endogenous neural stem cells in the hippocampus of young mice with Alzheimer's disease (AD), so as to explore its mechanisms underlying improvement of AD. METHODS: Forty 1.5-month-old APP/PS1 transgenic male mice were randomly divided into an EA group and a model group, 20 mice in each group, and other 20 C57BL/6J male mice of the same age were used as the normal control group. EA (intermittment wave 10 Hz, 2 mA) was applied to "Baihui" (GV 20), "Fengfu" (GV 16) and "Shenshu" (BL 23) for 20 min, once a day, 6 days a week for 16 weeks. H.E. staining was used to assess histopathological changes of neurons of the hippocampal dentate gyrus. Immunohistochemical stain was used to detect the expression of 5-bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU)-positive in the hippocampus, and immunofluorescence double-labeled technique was used to detect the number of proliferated positive neurons of hippocampal neural stem cells. The expression levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and Nestin mRNA and protein were detected by using real-time PCR and Western blot, separately. RESULTS: The immunoactivity of BrdU, and the expression levels of BDNF and Nestin mRNA and protein in the hippocampus in the model group were significantly lower than in the normal control group (P<0.01, P<0.05), and considerably higher in the EA group than in the model group (P<0.01, P<0.05). The number of BrdU/NeuN dual labeled neurons was slightly increased in the model group than in the normal control group (P>0.05), and evidently increased in the EA group relevant to the model group (P<0.05), suggesting a proliferation of hippocampal neural stem cells. After modeling, the neurons of hippocampal dentate gyrus were arranged loosely and irregularly and their structure was fuzzy, with an appearance of different degrees of nuclear pyknosis, whereas in the EA group, the neuronal contour was clear and the nuclear structure was relatively distinct. CONCLUSION: EA can activate the proliferation of neural stem cells in the hippocampus in AD mice, which may contribute to its function in improving the neuronal structure by upregulating the expression of BDNF.

RESUMEN

Zhachong Shisanwei Pills, composed of 13 Chinese medicinal materials, are used for treating the diseases such as hemiplegia, pain of muscles and bones, rheumatism, and joint pain. The chemical composition and pharmacodynamics of Zhachong Shisanwei Pills have not been reported. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole-time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS) was employed to quickly identify the chemical components of Zhachong Shisanwei Pills, which was performed with Shim-pack GIST C_(18) column(4.6 mm×150 mm, 5 μm). The gradient elution was conducted with methanol-0.05% acetic acid as the mobile phase. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry(ESI-MS) was carried out in both positive and negative ion modes. The compounds were identidied based on accurate relative molecular weight, fragment ion species, and the MS data of reference substances and in literature. In conclusion, a total of 98 compounds were identified, including 19 organic acids, 36 flavonoids, 13 volatile oils, 8 tannins, 5 2-(2-phenylethyl)chromones, 5 amino acids, 3 sesquiterpenoids, 3 alkaloids, and 2 other compounds. This study characte-rized the chemical components of Zhachong Shisanwei Pills rapidly for the first time, laying a foundation for further research on the pharmacodynamic material basis and quality evaluation.

Chronic high-dose alcohol consumption impairs bone remodeling, reduces bone mass, and increases the risk of osteoporosis and bone fracture. However, the mechanisms underlying alcohol-induced osteoporosis are yet to be elucidated. In this study, we showed that excess intake of ethyl alcohol (EtOH) resulted in osteopenia and osteoblast necroptosis in mice that led to necrotic lesions and reduced osteogenic differentiation in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs). We found that EtOH treatment led to the activation of the RIPK1/RIPK3/MLKL signaling, resulting in increased osteoblast necroptosis and decreased osteogenic differentiation and bone formation both in vivo and in vitro. We further discovered that excessive EtOH treatment-induced osteoblast necroptosis might partly depend on reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation; concomitantly, ROS contributed to necroptosis of osteoblasts through a positive feedback loop involving RIPK1/RIPK3. In addition, blocking of the RIPK1/RIPK3/MLKL signaling by necrostatin-1 (Nec-1), a key inhibitor of RIPK1 kinase in the necroptosis pathway, or antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC), an inhibitor of ROS, could decrease the activation of osteoblast necroptosis and ameliorate alcohol-induced osteopenia both in vivo and in vitro. Collectively, we demonstrated that chronic high-dose alcohol consumption induced osteopenia via osteoblast necroptosis and revealed that RIPK1 kinase may be a therapeutic target for alcohol-induced osteopenia.

It has been a great challenge to simultaneously inhibit the outgrowth of both the primary tumor and metastasis in metastatic cancer treatment. Substantial studies have evidenced that the interaction of platelets and cancer cells supports tumor metastasis, and platelets are considered to have metastasis-targeting property. Inspired by injury-targeting and metastasis-targeting properties of platelets, we constructed a photothermal therapy strategy with activated platelet-targeting albumin-based nanoparticles, PSN-HSA-PTX-IR780, to amplify drug delivery in the primary tumor at mild temperatures and simultaneously inhibit metastasis via a "platelet bridge". Human serum albumin (HSA) was premodified with a P-selectin-targeting peptide (PSN peptide) or IR780 serving as a photosensitizer. Hybrid albumin nanoparticles were assembled via the disulfide reprogramming method and encapsulated paclitaxel (PTX) to formulate PSN-HSA-PTX-IR780. The PSN-modified albumin nanoparticles could bind with upregulated P-selectin on activated platelets and subsequently target cancer cells by using platelets as a "bridge". In addition, nanoparticle-generated hyperthermia induced tissue injury and increased tumor-infiltrating platelets, thereby recruiting more nanoparticles into the tumor in a self-promoted way. In vivo studies showed that the drug accumulation of PSN-HSA-PTX-IR780 was 2.86-fold higher than that of HSA-PTX-IR780 at the optimal temperature (45 °C), which consequently improved the therapeutic outcome. Moreover, PSN-HSA-PTX-IR780 also effectively targets and inhibits lung metastasis by binding with metastasis-infiltrating platelets. Altogether, the self-promoted nanoplatform provides a unique and promising strategy for metastatic cancer treatment with enhanced drug delivery efficacy.

OBJECTIVE@#To observe the changes of functional connectivity of brain pain-emotion regulation region in patients with cervical spondylosis of cervical type by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).@*METHODS@#Thirty-two subjects were selected. Of them, 16 patients with cervical spondylosis of cervical type were divided into an observation group and 16 healthy subjects into a control group. The patients in the observation group were treated with acupuncture at Tianzhu (BL 10), Jingbailao (EX-HN 15), Jianzhongshu (SI 15) and @*RESULTS@#In the observation group, the VAS score was (1.94±1.12) after the treatment, which was lower than (5.62±1.20) before treatment (@*CONCLUSION@#Pain involves the formation and expression of "pain-emotion-cognition". Acupuncture can systematically regulate the brain functional connections between cognitive regions such as dorsal prefrontal lobe and anterior cingulate gyrus and emotional regions such as insula and VTA in patients with cervical spondylosis of cervical type, suggesting that acupuncture has a multi-dimensional and comprehensive regulation effect on pain.

Objective::To analyze and identify the chemical constituents of Citri Sarcodactylis Fructus by an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with hybrid quadrupole-orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-Orbirap HRMS) method. Method::Compounds were separated on Thermo Scientific Accucore™ C18 column (3 mm×100 mm, 2.6 μm). The mobile phase was 0.1% formic acid solution and 0.1% formic acetonitrile solution. The flow rate was 0.3 mL·min-1, and the column temperature was set at 30 ℃. HRMS was performed using an electrospray ion source (ESI), and scanned in a positive ion mode by means of full scan/data dependent secondary scan (Full MS/dd-MS2). Compound Discoverer 3.0 software that could be linked to mzCloud network database and local high-resolution mass spectrometry database of traditional Chinese medicine components was used to analyze the data, based on accurate molecular mass, retention behaviors and characteristic ion fragmentation of the compounds, as well as literature information and relevant reference materials. Result::Totally 54 chemical constituents in Citri Sarcodactylis Fructus were identified, including 16 flavonoids, 17 coumarins, 3 limonoids, 6 nucleosides and nucleobases, 2 organic acids, 3 aromatic aldehydes, 1 amino acid and 6 other components. Conclusion::The established UPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS method can be used to effectively and rapidly identify main chemical constituents of Citri Sarcodactylis Fructus. The findings provide a methodological reference and theoretical foundation for defining the pharmacodynamic material base and optimizing quality control index of Citri Sarcodactylis Fructus, which is of guiding significance for further development and utilization of the resources.

Rhinacanthus nasutus is the shrubs of Acanthacesa of Rhinacanthus nasutus. It has been used as traditional Zhuang medicine for thousands of years, with antipyretic and alexipharmic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, antiasthmatic and expectorant effects. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that R. nasutus has been used for treatment of various diseases, including pneumonia, gastritis and hepatitis. In addition, naphthoquinone esters isolated from this plant exhibits antitumor, antiviral, antifungal, and immunomodulatory activities, with a high application value. Scholars at home and abroad have isolated a variety of compounds from R. nasutus, including 20 naphthoquinones, organic acids, lignans, alkaloids and other structural types of components. Among them, naphthoquinones have a variety of biological activities. Up to now, there are no systematic and comprehensive report on the chemical constituents and pharmacological effects of naphthoquinones. In this review, we summarized the chemical constituents of naphthoquinones with pharmacological activity, finding that R. nasutus and naphthoquinones have a great potential to be developed as a traditional Chinese medicine for tumors, diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver, which can provide an important scientific basis for defining the pharmacodynamic basis of the pharmacological activities and a reference for further research and comprehensive utilization of Zhuang medicine of Rhinacanthus nasutus.

BACKGROUND: Resistant starch (RS) is a starch that can be fermented by the microbial flora within gut lumen. Insulin resistance (IR) is a pathophysiological condition related to diabetes and obesity. RS could reduce blood glucose and ameliorate IR in animals, but its effect in human population is controversial. OBJECTIVE: The authors conducted a systematic literature review to evaluate the effect of RS diet supplement on ameliorating IR in patients with T2DM and simple obesity. METHODS: Databases that supplemented with RS in ameliorating IR in T2DM and simple obesity were queried for studies on or before August 15, 2018. Parameters including fasting insulin, fasting glucose, body mass index (BMI), homeostatic model assessment (HOMA) etc. were extracted from studies to systemically evaluate effects of RS. RESULTS: The database search yielded 14 parallel or crossover studies that met the inclusion criteria. The results indicated that there was no significant difference in the amelioration of BMI, HOMA-%S and HOMA-%B in T2DM patients between RS and the non-RS supplementation. However, the fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin and HOMA-IR in T2DM with obesity who supplemented RS were lower than control group, and the subgroup analysis according to the dose of RS supplementation was inconsistency. There was no significant difference between RS and non-RS supplements in patients with simple obesity. CONCLUSION: RS supplementation can ameliorate IR in T2DM, especially for the patients of T2DM with obesity, but not in simple obesity.

RESUMEN

Idiopathic ventricular arrhythmias originating from the aortic sinus of Valsalva often show preferential conduction to the right-ventricular outflow tract, which may render radiofrequency ablation more difficult. We describe a patient with symptomatic premature ventricular contractions of left-ventricular outflow tract origin presenting with a variation of QRS morphology during ablation. The correlation between the characteristics of local voltage potentials and the real origin site of the ventricular arrhythmia is discussed.

Objective To investigate the diagnosis and treatment of adult Hirschsprung disease. Methods The clinical data of 10 patients with adult Hirschsprung disease from August 2011 to August 2017 in the Department of General Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University were retrospectively analyzed. Results Among the 10 patients, 4 cases were male, and 6 cases were female, with age 21 to 65 years old, and body mass index 16.77 to 25.73 kg/m2. The patients were diagnosed with Hirschsprung disease by postoperative pathological examination. All patients had difficult defecation medical history. Barium enema examination in 3 patients before operation showed obvious narrow segment, migrating segment and dilatation segment. Four cases received emergency surgical operation, and 6 cases received selective surgical operation. Complications included intestinal obstruction in 3 cases, incisions infection in 2 cases, and incision rupture in 1 case. Conclusions Adult Hirschsprung disease is difficult to be diagnosed, and the aspect of medical history, barium enema examination, surgical findings and pathological examination has to be combined. The surgery way of AHD is diverse and ought to be individual. Laparoscopic surgery with small trauma and quick recovery has great development space.

Although studies showed subtle reductions in brain volume in fronto-striatial regions in children with ADHD, there have been limited investigations of volume and lateralizaton in subcortical structures and a paucity of exploration of the influence of gender on these findings. This study aims to examine morphology of subcortical structures and their association with ADHD symptoms in boys and girls as compared to their typically-developing (TD) peers. One hundred and eighty five children aged 7-14 years with and without ADHD were included from ADHD-200 Consortium. Results showed that compared to TD boys, boys with ADHD had reduced accumbens, amygdala and hippocampus volumes. There were no volumetric differences in any structure between ADHD and TD girls. Asymmetry analysis revealed right lateralization compressions within the thalamus in ADHD boys relative to TD boys. The findings suggest a gender dimorphic pattern of differences in subcortical structures in children with ADHD, and a possible neurobiological mechanism where boys with ADHD demonstrate increasing difficulties with hyperactivity/impulsivity.

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of plasmakinetic enucleation of the prostate (PKEP) for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) compared with 160-W lithium triboride laser photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP). From February 2011 to July 2012, a prospective nonrandomized study was performed. One-hundred one patients underwent PKEP, and 110 underwent PVP. No severe intraoperative complications were recorded, and none of the patients in either group required a blood transfusion. Shorter catheterization time (38.14 ± 23.64 h vs 72.54 ± 28.38 h, P< 0.001) and hospitalization (2.32 ± 1.25 days vs 4.07 ± 1.23 days, P< 0.001) were recorded in the PVP group. At 12-month postoperatively, the PKEP group had a maintained and statistically improvement in International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) (4.07 ± 2.07 vs 5.00 ± 2.10; P< 0.001), quality of life (QoL) (1.08 ± 0.72 vs 1.35 ± 0.72; P= 0.007), maximal urinary flow rate (Qmax) (24.75 ± 5.87 ml s-1 vs 22.03 ± 5.04 ml s-1 ; P< 0.001), postvoid residual urine volume (PVR) (14.29 ± 6.97 ml vs 17.00 ± 6.11 ml; P= 0.001), and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) value (0.78 ± 0.57 ng ml-1 vs 1.27 ± 1.07 ng ml-1 ; P< 0.001). Both PKEP and PVP relieve low urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to BPH with low complication rates. PKEP can completely remove prostatic adenoma while the total amount of tissue removed by PVP is less than that can be removed by PKEP. Based on our study of the follow-up, PKEP provides better postoperative outcomes than PVP.

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the preventive effect of different compatibilities of Ramulus Cinnamomi (RC) and Radix Paeomiae alba (RPA) in Guizhi Decoction (GZD) on neurotransmitters and their rate-limiting enzymes, and neurotrophic factors of cardiac sympathetic denervation model rats induced by 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Totally 54 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 6 groups, i.e., the blank control group, the model group, the methycobal group, the 2:1 (RC/RPA) Guishao group, the 1:2 Guishao group, and the 1:1 Guishao group, 9 in each group. Sympathetic denervation was induced by intraperitoneal injection of 6-OHDA for three successive days. Rats in the methycobal group and GZD groups were administered with corresponding decoction by gastrogavage 1 week before modeling (methycobal at the daily dose 0.15 mg/kg; GZD at the daily dose of 4.0, 5.5, 5.5 g crude drugs/kg for GZD 1:1, 1:2, and 2:1 groups). All medication lasted for 10 successive days. Levels of norepinephrine (NE), tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), choline acetyl-transferase (ChAT), nerve growth factor (NGF), growth associated protein43 (GAP-43) and ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) in myocar- dial homogenates of right atrium and ventricular septum were detected by ELISA.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Compared with the blank control group, levels of NE, TH, TH/ChAT ratio, and GAP-43 in myocardial homogenates of right atrium and ventricular septum decreased in the model group, and level of NGF increased (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). Compared with the model group, levels of NE and GAP-43 increased in the right atrium and interventricular septum; NGF level of the ventricular septum decreased in the methycobal group and each GZD groups. TH and TH/ChAT ratio in the right atrium increased in the 2:1 Guishao group and the 1:2 Guishao group (P < 0.01, P < 0.05); NGF levels in the right atrium and interventricular septum decreased only in the 1:1 Guishao group (P < 0.01, P< 0.05). Compared with the methycobal group, levels of NE, TH, and GAP-43 in the right atrium and interventricular septum increased, and NGF levels in the right atrium and interventricular septum decreased in the 1:1 Guishao group (P < 0.05). Compared with the methycobal group, levels of NE and GAP-43 in interventricular septum increased in the 2:1 Guishao group (P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>GZD (with the proportion between RC and RPA 2:1 and 1:1) could improve contents of neurotransmitters and their rate-limiting enzymes, as well as neurotrophic factors in cardiac sympathetic denervation model rats induced by 6-OHDA, alleviate cardiac sympathetic denervation induced by 6-OHDA, and maintain the balance of sympathetic-vagal nerve system.</p>
