In recent years, microbiota-based tumor immunotherapy has become a hotspot in cancer research. However, the use of microorganisms alone to activate the immune response for antitumor therapy was unsatisfactory. In this study, we biosynthesized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) based on yeast microcapsules to activate the immune response for antitumor treatment in synergy with chemodynamic therapy (CDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT). We generated AuNPs and PtNPs on yeast microcapsules (YAP) and fabricated nanoscale particles (Bre-YAP) by ultrasonic fragmentation and differential centrifugation. Bre-YAP retained the glucan component of yeast as an adjuvant; in the meantime, these two kinds of metal nanoparticles contained were excellent CDT and PTT mediators. By inspection, they could reach a high level of distribution in tumors and tumor-draining lymph nodes (TDLNs). Under the laser irradiation of tumors, this immunological nanomaterial significantly remodeled the microenvironments of tumors and TDLNs. The primary tumors were effectively inhibited or even eradicated, and the overall survival of mice was significantly improved as well. Therefore, yeast microcapsule-based Bre-YAP with immune properties could be used as an effective cancer treatment modality.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Gualou Xiebai Banxia (GLXBBX) decoction is a well-known traditional Chinese herbal formula that was first discussed in the Synopsis of the Golden Chamber by Zhang Zhongjing in the Eastern Han Dynasty. In traditional Chinese medicine, GLXBBX is commonly prescribed to treat cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis. OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to examine GLXBBX's preventative capacity and elucidate the potential molecular mechanism of Poloxamer 407 (P407)-induced hyperlipidemia in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Both the control and model groups received pure water, and the test group also received a GLXBBX decoction. For each administration, 3 ml of the solution was administered orally. To establish hyperlipidemia, a solution mixed with 0.25 g/kg P407 dissolved in 0.9% normal saline was injected slowly into the abdominal cavity. At the end of the study, the rats' plasma lipid levels were calculated using an automatic biochemical analyzer to evaluate the preventative capability of the GLXBBX decoction, and the serum and liver of the rats were collected. RESULTS: The GLXBBX decoction significantly improved P407-induced hyperlipidemia, including increased plasma triglycerides (TGs), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) elevation, and lipid accumulation. Moreover, GLXBBX decoction treatment increased lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity and mRNA expression of LPL. Furthermore, GLXBBX significantly suppressed the mRNA expression of stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD1). CONCLUSION: GLXBBX significantly improved P407-induced hyperlipidemia, which may have been related to enhanced LPL activity, increased LPL mRNA expression, and decreased mRNA expression of SCD1.

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)/maize (Zea mays L.)/soybean (Glycine max L.) relay strip intercropping (W/M/S) system is commonly used by the smallholders in the Southwest of China. However, little known is how to manage phosphorus (P) to enhance P use efficiency of the W/M/S system and to mitigate P leaching that is a major source of pollution. Field experiments were carried out in 2011, 2012, and 2013 to test the impact of five P application rates on yield and P use efficiency of the W/M/S system. The study measured grain yield, shoot P uptake, apparent P recovery efficiency (PRE) and soil P content. A linear-plateau model was used to determine the critical P rate that maximizes gains in the indexes of system productivity. The results show that increase in P application rates aggrandized shoot P uptake and crops yields at threshold rates of 70 and 71.5 kg P ha-1 respectively. With P application rates increasing, the W/M/S system decreased the PRE from 35.9% to 12.3% averaged over the three years. A rational P application rate, 72 kg P ha-1, or an appropriate soil Olsen-P level, 19.1 mg kg-1, drives the W/M/S system to maximize total grain yield while minimizing P surplus, as a result of the PRE up to 28.0%. We conclude that rational P application is an important approach for relay intercropping to produce high yield while mitigating P pollution and the rational P application-based integrated P fertilizer management is vital for sustainable intensification of agriculture in the Southwest of China.

This study is to explore the reason of "the older, the better" of PCR and itsincrease of flavonoids. We identified the fun- gus isolated from the PCR using microscopic and molecular identification. HPLC method was used to determine the content of 4 fla- vonoids and to clarifythe regularity of them; UV spectrophotometry method was used to determine the total content of flavonoids; reverse thinking was applied to screen the fungus that have close relation to the change of flavonoids. Finally, we have isolated and identified 25 fungusfrom the PCR, which belong to 2 genus and 4 species, including pencillium commune, P. minioluteeum, P. citrinum, Aspergillus flavus and A. niger. The content of flavonoids was increased in the mildew PCR due to A. niger and other fungus. Therefore, "the ol- der, the better" of PCR had its scientific reason that the increase of flavonoids had a close relation of the metabolic activity of A. niger and other fungus.

A novel strategy for screening α-glucosidase inhibitors (AGIs) from natural products by capillary electrophoresis (CE) with an immobilised enzyme microreactor was developed. In this approach, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) was first covalently attached to surface of the pores of the porous polymer capillary monolith via the formation of an Au-S bond, and α-glucosidase was then simply and stably immobilised onto AuNPs through the strong affinity of gold for amino groups of the enzyme. In order to profiling the activity of the immobilised α-glucosidase, the natural substrate was hydrolyzed by it and the yield of product was determined by CE. The amount of covalently attached α-glucosidase to the monolith was calculated to be about 30.0 µg/mg. The immobilised enzyme exhibited 80% activity after 25 runs, and only lost 7.6% of activity after 6 runs within 31 days. Screening of AGIs present in extracts of natural products by the proposed method was demonstrated.
