RESUMEN
Experimental candidiasis developing against the background of the secondary immunodeficiency is described. After thymogen injections the course of candidiasis proceeds less severely, this suggesting that thymogen activates the immunocompetent system, including thymus, favouring the disappearance of the fungal infection.

Immunostimulating synthetic peptide thymogen being an analog of the thymus polypeptide drug thymalin was studied for its effect on carcinogenesis of the esophagus and forestomach in male rats. Rats received N-nitrososarcosine ethyl ester (NSEE) per os in the daily dose of 100 mg/kg of body weight during 8 weeks. After cessation of the carcinogen administration rats were treated with thymogen (the daily dose of 10 micrograms per rat) or immune-inactive polypeptide drug pulmolin from the alveolar tissue of lung (the daily dose of 0.5 mg per rat) during the following 32 weeks. Animals were killed 40 weeks after the experiment beginning. NSEE induced the esophagus and forestomach tumours, mainly papillomas and rarely carcinomas, practically in all rats, more than 5 tumours per rat, on the average. Thymogen decreased the tumour incidence by 12% and made tumour multiplicity 1.7 times as low. Pulmolin did not influence development of these tumours.

The polypeptide preparations cortexin and encephalin from grey and white substances of the cattle brain injected in the postnatal period are studied for their effect on the development of the nervous system and kidney tumours in rats induced transplacentally by N-nitroso-N-ethylurea. The two preparations decreased both the incidence and multiplicity of the brain tumours. It is supposed that the anticarcinogenic effect of these preparations is due to their normalizing action on the differentiation and proliferation of the brain glia cells.

The process of blood coagulation was found to be activated in the peroxidation syndrome caused by the use of antioxidant-free diet. Vasonin prevents the development of hypercoagulation in rabbits at the peroxidation syndrome but fails to prevent the development of the latter.

The specificity of antisera, obtained by the immunization of rabbits with the conjugated antigenic preparations of the thymic factor, have been evaluated by the method of immunochemical analysis. To carry out the comparative study, polypeptides isolated from the pineal body, cortex and white matter of the brain, Thy-1 antigen from the cerebral cortex and insulin have been used. The polypeptides of the thymus and the brain have been found to differ in their amino acid composition and molecular weight. The thymic factor possesses specific antigenic determinants which are absent in the tested preparations of cerebral polypeptides and insulin. The rabbit antisera obtained in this investigation are highly specific and can be used for the immunochemical determination of the thymic factor in the blood and other biological fluids.

The claster- and colony-formation capacity of the offls--precursors of granulomonopoiesis in 29 normal subjects was studied in a bilayer agar system. Parallel cultures were used to investigate the effects of polypeptide factors of the hypothalamus and epiphysis. It was found that polypeptide factors of the hypothalamus and epiphysis have a regulatory influence on granulomonopoiesis at the level of precursor cells.

A comparative study on the influence of physiologically active substances, extracted from the epiphysis and the anterior hypophalamus, on the morpho-functional status of the cells of the hypophalamo hypophysial neurosecretory system was carried out. The substances in question were extracted from the cattie epiphysis and anterior hypothalamus by means of acetic acid extraction from acetone-dehydrated tissue and the following sedimentation of the substances by means of cooled acetone and lyophilization. The investigation of the substances demonstrated them to be polypeptides with an average molecular weights from 2.000 to 10.000. The experiment was done in male rats Wistar strain Morphofunctional status of the hypothalamo-hypophysial neurosecretory system was estimated in paraffin sections, stained with paraldehyde-fuchsine after Gomori- Gabe and additional staining with azan after Heidenhain. The data obtained demonstrated that injection of the substances excreted by the anterior hypothalamus and epiphysis produced opposite changes in the functional status of the cells of the hypothalamo-hypophysial neurosecretory system: the substances from the epiphysis increased, while the substances from the hypothalamus, on the contrary, decreased their activity.

Extracts from bovine tissue were prepared by the acetic acid treatement and purified by gel filtration. All the preparations were injected into CBA mice for 10 days. Extracts from the thymus and the epiphysis proved to increase the number of antibody-forming cells generated in the spleen and the level of serum hemagglutinins in response to the immunization with sheep red cells. As to the hypothalamic extract, it depressed the immune response.
