RESUMEN
The journal of APJCP (Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention) focuses to gather relevant and up-to-date novel information's related to cancer sciences. The research methodologies and approaches adopted by the researcher are prone to variation which may be desirable in the context of novel scientific findings however, the reproducibility for these studies needs to be unified and assured. The reproducibility issues are highly concerned when preclinical studies are reported in cancer, for natural products in particular. The natural products and medicinal plants are prone to a wide variation in terms of phytochemistry and phyto-pharmacology, ultimately affecting the end results for cancer studies. Hence the need for specific guidelines to adopt a best-practice in cancer research are utmost essential. The current AIMRDA guidelines aims to develop a consensus-based tool in order to enhance the quality and assure the reproducibility of studies reporting natural products in cancer prevention. A core working committee of the experts developed an initial draft for the guidelines where more focus was kept for the inclusion of specific items not covered in previous published tools. The initial draft was peer-reviewed, experts-views provided, and improved by a scientific committee comprising of field research experts, editorial experts of different journals, and academics working in different organization worldwide. The feedback from continuous online meetings, mail communications, and webinars resulted a final draft in the shape of a checklist tool, covering the best practices related to the field of natural products research in cancer prevention and treatment. It is mandatory for the authors to read and follow the AIMRDA tool, and be aware of the good-practices to be followed in cancer research prior to any submission to APJCP. Though the tool is developed based on experts in the field, it needs to be further updated and validated in practice via implementation in the field.

BACKGROUND: With the growing rate of tumors, cancer has become one of the most important health concerns in Iran. The urgency with which Iranian researchers and health professionals address this challenge leads to a load of scientific materials. METHODS: To reveal gaps in produced knowledge and suggest future research directions, applying well-validated scientometric tools, we assessed the trends of Iranian published scientific articles and citations in the field of oncology. The inclusion criteria consisted of all oncology-related articles that were data-based, and peer-reviewed; with at least an abstract published in English; and authored by at least one researcher affiliated with Iranian institutions. RESULTS: Amongst 5063525 oncology research records indexed in at least one of PubMed, Scopus, or Web of Science Core Collection (WoS) from the start to February 2019, Iranian researches accounted for about 24867 (0.49%). Published articles on all cancers by Iranian researchers had a sharp continuously ascending trend, with the same pattern for citations received. Some important topics such as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies have been missing and some such as diagnostic and pharmaceutical innovations have been less investigated. The most collaborative country was the United States, while no close collaboration was observed with China that was introduced as the most productive country in the field of oncology over the past decades. CONCLUSION: Despite the progressive trend in most oncology fields, some significant practical topics are still missing. Systematic reviews of produced theoretical innovations and translating them to functional knowledge can be of importance to fulfill the mentioned gaps.

Idiopathic heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB; IHMB) is a common gynecological problem with no pelvic pathology or general bleeding disorder. Herbal remedies are commonly used to treat HMB. This systematic review aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of herbal preparations for the treatment of IHMB. MEDLINE, Ovid, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched from inception to 23 August 2015. Only randomized controlled trials were considered. Three randomized controlled trials were included in this systematic review. Different herbal preparations were used in the included trials. In two studies, Ginger capsules and myrtle fruit syrup significantly reduced the menstrual duration and blood loss compared with placebo based on the pictorial blood loss assessment chart score (p < 0.001, p = 0.01). In another trial, Punica granatum flower capsules were as effective as tranexamic acid capsules in reducing the mean (SD) pictorial blood loss assessment chart score, with no significant difference between the two treatments (p = 0.3). The results show that the methods used in these trials may reduce menstrual bleeding in women with IHMB. Additional well-designed trials are needed to investigate the safety and efficacy of herbs for the treatment of women with IHMB or other forms of HMB.

Cancer registration is an important component of a comprehensive cancer control program, providing timely data and information for research and administrative use. Capture-recapture methods have been used as tools to investigate completeness of cancer registry data. This study aimed to estimate the completeness of lung cancer cases registered in Ardabil Population Based Cancer Registry (APBCR) with a three-source capture-recapture method. Data for all new cases of lung cancer reported by three sources (pathology reports, death certificates, and medical records) to APBCR for 2006 and 2008 were obtained. Duplicate cases shared among the three sources were identified based on similarity of first name, last name and father's names. A log-linear model was used to estimate number of missed cases and to control for dependency among sources. A total of 218 new cases of lung cancer was reported by three sources after removing duplicates. The estimated completeness calculated by log-linear method was 26.4 for 2006 and 27.1 for 2008. The completeness differed according to gender. In men, the completeness was 26.0% for 2006 and 28.1 for 2008. In women, the completeness was 36.5% for 2006 and 46.9 for 2008. In conclusion, none of the three sources can be considered as a reliable source for accurate cancer incidence estimation.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to draw a set of priority areas of cancer research in order to utilize these priorities as broader policy for decision-making on a comprehensive cancer control program at the national level in Iran. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A steering committee consisting of scientists from the three major areas of clinical, basic research and public health sciences recommended a qualitative study of ranking an exhaustive outlines of cancer science topics by cancer scientists throughout country. Scientists were identified through Medline search and contacting cancer research centers all over the country. An exhausting outline of cancer science topics was modified and posed to Iranian cancer scientists. Doing research on each outlined topic was judged based on its state of being necessary, appropriate, practical or yielding in the Iranian societal context. An electronic system of communication was developed and all scientists were asked to rank each topic based in order of 1 to 5. As the areas of expertise of scientists were diverse, the participants had the option to rank the outlined topics that they think suitable to their areas. RESULTS: Out of 135 identified scientists, 108 participated of whom 56 were clinicians (M.D's with university appointment), 35 basic scientists and 17 epidemiologists and public health scientists. As the top first five areas of research priorities, the overall assessment indicated as research topics: 1) cancer surveillance and registration as the first priority; followed by 2) exogenous factors in the origin and cause of cancer; 3) surveillance--patient care and survivorship issues; 4) issues of end-of-life care; and 5) cost analyses and health care delivery of cancer services. CONCLUSION: The study concluded that research on infrastructure of cancer control programs, cancer registration, service delivery and patient quality of life bears higher priority in Iran.

Cancer data reporting in Iran dates back to 1960, when the first report of cancer frequency data was prepared and published by the late Prof. Abdollah Habibi, an Iranian pathologist working at the Cancer Institute of Iran.The next data came from two registries, one in the Caspian littoral and the other in Fars province. This paper reviews all activities regarding cancer registry and cancer data in Iran since the early seventies. The authors consider the results published by the different bodies interested in cancer data and make conclusions on prospects for further needs and challenges for cancer registration as a fundamental infrastructure component of a comprehensive cancer control program in Iran.
