RESUMEN

The circadian clock is an evolutionary molecular product that is associated with better adaptation to changes in the external environment. Disruption of the circadian rhythm plays a critical role in tumorigenesis of many kinds of cancers, including prostate cancer (PCa). Integrating circadian rhythm into PCa research not only brings a closer understanding of the mechanisms of PCa but also provides new and effective options for the precise treatment of patients with PCa. This review begins with patterns of the circadian clock, highlights the role of the disruption of circadian rhythms in PCa at the epidemiological and molecular levels, and discusses possible new approaches to PCa therapy that target the circadian clock.

Increasing phosphorus (P) inputs induced by anthropogenic activities have increased P availability in soils considerably, with dramatic effects on carbon (C) cycling and storage. However, the underlying mechanisms via which P drives plant and microbial regulation of soil organic C (SOC) formation and stabilization remain unclear, hampering the accurate projection of soil C sequestration under future global change scenarios. Taking the advantage of an 8-year field experiment with increasing P addition levels in a subalpine forest on the eastern Tibetan Plateau, we explored plant C inputs, soil microbial communities, plant and microbial biomarkers, as well as SOC physical and chemical fractions. We found that continuous P addition reduced fine root biomass, but did not affect total SOC content. P addition decreased plant lignin contribution to SOC, primarily from declined vanillyl-type phenols, which was coincided with a reduction in methoxyl/N-alkyl C by 2.1%-5.5%. Despite a decline in lignin decomposition due to suppressed oxidase activity by P addition, the content of lignin-derived compounds decreased because of low C input from fine roots. In contrast, P addition increased microbial (mainly fungal) necromass and its contribution to SOC due to the slower necromass decomposition under reduced N-acquisition enzyme activity. The larger microbial necromass contribution to SOC corresponded with a 9.1%-12.4% increase in carbonyl C abundance. Moreover, P addition had no influence on the slow-cycing mineral-associated organic C pool, and SOC chemical stability indicated by aliphaticity and recalcitrance indices. Overall, P addition in the subalpine forest over 8 years influenced SOC composition through divergent alterations of plant- and microbial-derived C contributions, but did not shape SOC physical and chemical stability. Such findings may aid in accurately forecasting SOC dynamics and their potential feedbacks to climate change with future scenarios of increasing soil P availability in Earth system models.

Achieving a high encapsulation efficiency and loading capacity of proteins in lecithin-based liposomes has always been a challenge. Here, we use Flash Nano-Precipitation (FNP) to produce liposomes and investigated the encapsulation of model protein (Bovine Serum Albumin, BSA). Through rapid turbulent mixing, we obtained liposomes with small size, low polydispersity, and good batch repeatability at a high production rate. We demonstrated that the bilayer of liposomes prepared solely using lecithin was defective, which led to the fusion, and increased size and polydispersity. When cholesterol was added to reach a lecithin-to-cholesterol molar ratio of 5:3, a compact bilayer formed to effectively inhibit liposome fusion. The encapsulation efficiency and loading capacity of BSA was as high as âˆ¼ 68% and âˆ¼ 6% in lecithin-cholesterol liposome, respectively, far exceeding the values reported in the literature. Further study by Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation (QCM-D) revealed that the highly effective encapsulation was due to the rapid mutual adsorption between BSA and defective/curved lecithin double layers during the liposome formation. Such rapid mutual adsorption leads to the layer-by-layer assembly and formation of onion-like compact liposome structure as revealed by Cryo-TEM. This simple FNP method provides a scalable manufacturing approach for liposomes with efficient protein encapsulation. The revealed adsorption mechanism between protein and lecithin bilayers could also serve as a guide for similar studies.

PURPOSE: To determine the effect of low-intensity, long-wavelength red light therapy (LLRT) on the inhibition of myopia progression in children. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted. One hundred and five myopic children (spherical equivalent refractive error [SER] -3.09 ± 1.74 dioptres [D]; mean age, 9.19 ± 2.40 years) who underwent LLRT treatment (power 0.4 mW, wavelength 635 nm) twice per day for 3 min each session, with at least a 4-h interval between sessions, and a control group of 56 myopic children (SER -3.04 ± 1.66 D; mean age, 8.62 ± 2.45 years) were evaluated. Both groups wore single-vision distance spectacles. Each child returned for a follow-up examination every 3 months after the initial measurements for a total of 9 months. RESULTS: At 9 months, the mean SER in the LLRT group was -2.87 ± 1.89 D, significantly greater than that of the control group (-3.57 ± 1.49 D, p < 0.001). Axial length (AL) changes were -0.06 ± 0.19 mm and 0.26 ± 0.15 mm in the LLRT group and control group (p < 0.001), respectively. The subfoveal choroidal thickness changed by 45.32 ± 30.88 µm for children treated with LLRT at the 9-month examination (p < 0.001). Specifically, a substantial hyperopic shift (0.31 ± 0.24 D and 0.20 ± 0.14 D, respectively, p = 0.02) was found in the 8-14 year olds compared with 4-7 year old children. The decrease in AL in subjects with baseline AL >24 mm was -0.08 ± 0.19 mm, significantly greater than those with a baseline AL ≤24 mm (-0.04 ± 0.18 mm, p = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS: Repetitive exposure to LLRT therapy was associated with slower myopia progression and reduced axial growth after short durations of treatment. These results require further validation in randomised controlled trials.

Objective: This study aimed to see how different initial treatment regimens affected the long-term prognosis of patients with extranodal marginal zone mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma confining to the ocular adnexal (OAML) . Methods: Between April 2008 and April 2019, 109 patients with initial mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue confining to ocular adnexal were evaluated and followed-up, and the prognosis of various initial treatment regimens were examined. Results: A total of 36 patients underwent complete surgical resection of the lesions, and 73 patients had residual lesions after surgery, of which 37 patients chose watchful waiting, and 36 patients chose treatment. The treatment regimen included local radiotherapy and systemic treatment (chemotherapy, immunochemotherapy, the combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, etc.) , and no serious toxic and side effects were observed in patients receiving systemic treatment. The median follow-up time was 61 (10-142) months. The 5-year and 10-year progression-free survival (PFS) of monocular involvement patients were 78.2% and 76.0% . The 5-year and 10-year PFS rates of patients with binocular involvement were 64.4% and 23.5%. There was significant diference in PFS between patients with monocular and binocular involvement (P=0.010) . Patients who received additional treatment had higher PFS than those patients in the watchful waiting group (P=0.046) . The 5-year PFS was 71.4% and 90.1% among patients in the watchful waiting group and those who received additional treatment, whereas the 10-year PFS was 63.5% and 75.1% , respectively. Patients with OAML were still a risk of disease progression after 5 years. Conclusions: Patients with binocular involvement OAML at the start of the disease had a poor prognosis, but treatment could reduce the risk of recurrence/progression. Systemic therapy is one of the first-line treatment options for patients with OAML, who require long-term monitoring.

BACKGROUND: Manifestations of hypokalaemia in ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormonesyndrome(EAS) vary from mild muscle weakness to life-threatening arrhythmia. Herein, we present a rare case of EAS with concomitant rhabdomyolysis(RM) as a result of intractable hypokalaemia. CASE PRESENTATION: A 64-year-old man was admitted for limb weakness and facial hyperpigmentation for 2 weeks. Lab tests revealed intractable hypokalaemia (lowest at 1.8 mmol/L) and metabolic alkalosis. The diagnosis of RM was based on a creatine kinase(CK)level of 5 times the upper limit. The elevated CK and myohemoglobin (Mb) levels returned to within the normal range after the alleviation of hypokalaemia. The patient was diagnosed with ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome (CS) based on unsuppressed serum cortisol after a low-dose dexamethasone suppression test(LDDST) and remarkably elevated ACTH levels. The diagnosis of EAS was made based on the results of a high-dose dexamethasone suppression test(HDDST) and bilateral inferior petrosal sinus sampling(BIPSS). Multiple lymph nodes in the left supraclavicular fossa, right root of neck, mediastinum and bilateral hili of the lung were found with abnormal uptake of 68Ga-DOTA-NOC. Mediastinoscopic lymph node biopsy was performed. The pathological diagnosis was small-cell and large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma with positive ACTH staining. The patient was prescribed mifepristone and received one cycle of chemotherapy. The patient could not tolerate subsequent chemotherapy and died of dyscrasia. CONCLUSIONS: RM is a rare complication of EAS with insidious onset and atypical clinical manifestations. Serum potassium levels should be vigilantly monitored to avoid RM in EAS.

In recent years, near-infrared spectroscopy has developed into an analytical technique widely used in various fields. Because of its advantages of fast, green and non-destructive, it plays an increasingly prominent role in the field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) analysis. However, due to the complexity and overlap of spectra, near-infrared spectroscopy needs to be combined with chemometrics for analysis and calculation. The principle, application scope, advantages and limitations of near infrared spectroscopy and chemometrics are summarized in detail, in addition, their combined applications in the identification of the origin, authenticity, processed products, composition prediction and water content detection of TCM are reviewed. The authors discussed and analyzed the joint application of near-infrared spectroscopy and chemometrics in the field of TCM analysis, and summarized the unique advantages of the combined technology in the field of TCM, which had certain guiding significance for medical workers to better use this technology.

The identification of Chinese materia medica (CMM) characters, an important part of the quality standard of CMM, is one of the overall quality indicators of CMM. It is an old technical problem facing the inheritance and innovation of experience identification of Chinese medicine industry. However, the regulation of CMM characters recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia and other local drug standards and processing specifications are still staying at words description, relying on human sensory judgment, so the operability needs to be improved. This paper puts forward the proposal to establish a quality standard for CMM identification for the use of reference herbal pieces and Chinese medicinal herb for the identification of characters, and provides basic support for the objective digital research of CMM characters identification, which is helpful to improve the quality evaluation of CMM.

Tropane alkaloids are anticholinergic drugs widely used clinically. Biosynthesis of tropane alkaloids in planta involves a step of transamination of phenylalanine. Based on the sequenced transcriptomes of lateral roots and leaves of Hyoscyamus niger, we found three annotated aromatic amino acid aminotransferases, which were respectively named HnArAT1, HnArAT2 and HnArAT3. Sequence analysis showed that HnArAT3 had highest similarity with the reported Atropa belladonna Ab Ar AT4, which was involved in tropane alkaloid(TA) to provide the precursor of the phenyllactic acid moiety. Tissue expression pattern analysis indicated that HnArAT3 was specifically expressed in lateral roots, where is the organ synthesizing tropane alkaloids. Then, method of virus induced gene silencing (VIGS) was used to characterize the function of HnArAT3 in H. niger. Gene expression analysis given by real-time quantitative PCR showed that all the transgenic lines had lower expression levels of HnArAT3 than the non-transgenic control, and HPLC analysis of alkaloids demonstrated significant decrease in the contents of hyoscyamine, anisodamine and scopolamine in planta. These results suggested that HnArAT3 was involved in the phenyllactic acid branch of TA biosynthetic pathway. Molecular cloning and functional identification of HnArAT3 laid the foundation for further understanding of TA biosynthesis and metabolic regulation, and also provided a new candidate gene for engineering biosynthetic pathway of tropane alkaloids.

″Herb-Pairs″, also known as pair drugs, refers to a prescription consisted of two relatively fixed traditional Chinese medicine, is the most basic, most simple and most common form of medication prescription in traditional Chinese medicine compound compatibility. It is not a random combination of two herbs, nor is the simple accumulation of efficacy, but the simple and delicate experience of ancient Chinese medicine practitioners. As a bridge between single drug and prescriptions, it is the embodiment of the regular and dialectical connotation. Therefore, research on Herb-Pairs has always been the most basic and most important entry point for compound compatibility studies. However, the interaction between herbs and herbs is an effect with a downside as well as benefits. The beneficial herb-herb interaction in Herb-Pairs include mutual promotion, mutual enhancement, mutual restraint between two drugs and counteract toxicity of another drug. And the harmful herb- herb interaction in Herb- Pairs includes mutual inhibition and antagonism. All of these interactions areby means of affecting the metabolism of components to play a therapeutic effect. Using the pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK-PD) binding model, the combination of drug metabolism and pharmacodynamics can further elucidate the influence on effect caused by drug concentration and metabolism, which can help elucidate the mechanism of drug action. Consequently, in this review, the herb-herb interactions in terms of pharmacokinetic were summarized to elucidate rule of TCM compatibility.

The widely used organotins have the potential to disrupt the endocrine system, but little is known of underlying mechanisms of azocyclotin toxicity in fish. The objective of the present study was to investigate the impact of azocyclotin on reproduction in zebrafish. Adult zebrafish were exposed to 0.09 and 0.45µg/L azocyclotin for 21days, and effects on steroid hormones and mRNA expression of the genes belonging to the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonad (HPG) axis were investigated. Mass spectrometry methodology was developed to profile steroids within the metabolome of the gonads. They were disrupted as a result of azocyclotin exposure. Alterations in the expression of key genes associated with reproductive endocrine pathways in the pituitary (lhß), gonad (cyp19a1a, cyp17a1 and 17ß-hsd3), and liver (vtg1, vtg2, cyp1a1, comt, ugt1a and gstp1) were correlated with significant reductions in estrogen in both sexes and increased testosterone in females. Azocyclotin-induced down-regulation of cyp19a1a in males suggested a reduction in the rate of estrogen biosynthesis, while up-regulation of hepatic cyp1a1 and comt in both sexes suggested an increase in estrogen biotransformation and clearance. Azocyclotin also induced change in the expression of 17ß-hsd3, suggesting increased bioavailability of 11-ketotestosterone (11-KT) in the blood. Furthermore, the down-regulation of lhß expression in the brains of azocyclotin-exposed fish was associated with inhibition of oocyte maturation in females and retarded spermatogenesis in males. As a histological finding, retarded development of the ovaries was found to be an important cause for decreased fecundity, with down-regulation of vtg suspected to be a likely underlying mechanism. Additionally, relatively high concentrations of azocyclotin in the gonads may have directly caused toxicity, thereby impairing gametogenesis and reproduction. Embryonic or larval abnormalities occurred in the F1 generation along with accumulated burdens of azocyclotin in F1 eggs, following parental exposure. Overall, our results indicate that exposure to azocyclotin can impair reproduction in fish, and induce toxicity related abnormalities in non-exposed offspring.

Atropa belladonna is one of the most important plant sources for producing pharmaceutical tropane alkaloids (TAs). T1 progeny of transgenic A. belladonna, in which putrescine N-methyltransferase (EC. 2.1.1.53) from Nicotiana tabacum (NtPMT) and hyoscyamine 6ß-hydroxylase (EC. 1.14.11.14) from Hyoscyamus niger (HnH6H) were overexpressed, were established to investigate TA biosynthesis and distribution in ripe fruits, leaves, stems, primary roots and secondary roots under field conditions. Both NtPMT and HnH6H were detected at the transcriptional level in transgenic plants, whereas they were not detected in wild-type plants. The transgenes did not influence the root-specific expression patterns of endogenous TA biosynthetic genes in A. belladonna. All four endogenous TA biosynthetic genes (AbPMT, AbTRI, AbCYP80F1 and AbH6H) had the highest/exclusive expression levels in secondary roots, suggesting that TAs were mainly synthesized in secondary roots. T1 progeny of transgenic A. belladonna showed an impressive scopolamine-rich chemotype that greatly improved the pharmaceutical value of A. belladonna. The higher efficiency of hyoscyamine conversion was found in aerial than in underground parts. In aerial parts of transgenic plants, hyoscyamine was totally converted to downstream alkaloids, especially scopolamine. Hyoscyamine, anisodamine and scopolamine were detected in underground parts, but scopolamine and anisodamine were more abundant than hyoscyamine. The exclusively higher levels of anisodamine in roots suggested that it might be difficult for its translocation from root to aerial organs. T1 progeny of transgenic A. belladonna, which produces scopolamine at very high levels (2.94-5.13 mg g(-1)) in field conditions, can provide more valuable plant materials for scopolamine production.

Brugmansia arborea is a woody plant species that produces tropane alkaloids (TAs). The gene encoding tropine-forming reductase or tropinone reductase I (BaTRI) in this plant species was functionally characterised. The full-length cDNA of BaTRI encoded a 272-amino-acid polypeptide that was highly similar to tropinone reductase I from TAs-producing herbal plant species. The purified 29kDa recombinant BaTRI exhibited maximum reduction activity at pH 6.8-8.0 when tropinone was used as substrate; it also exhibited maximum oxidation activity at pH 9.6 when tropine was used as substrate. The Km, Vmax and Kcat values of BaTRI for tropinone were 2.65mM, 88.3nkatmg(-1) and 2.93S(-1), respectively, at pH 6.4; the Km, Vmax and Kcat values of TRI from Datura stramonium (DsTRI) for tropinone were respectively 4.18mM, 81.20nkatmg(-1) and 2.40S(-1) at pH 6.4. At pH 6.4, 6.8 and 7.0, BaTRI had a significantly higher activity than DsTRI. Analogues of tropinone, 4-methylcyclohexanone and 3-quinuclidinone hydrochloride, were also used to investigate the enzymatic kinetics of BaTRI. The Km, Vmax and Kcat values of BaTRI for tropine were 0.56mM, 171.62nkat.mg(-1) and 5.69S(-1), respectively, at pH 9.6; the Km, Vmax and Kcat values of DsTRI for tropine were 0.34mM, 111.90nkatmg(-1) and 3.30S(-1), respectively, at pH 9.6. The tissue profiles of BaTRI differed from those in TAs-producing herbal plant species. BaTRI was expressed in all examined organs but was most abundant in secondary roots. Finally, tropane alkaloids, including hyoscyamine, anisodamine and scopolamine, were detected in various organs of B. arborea by HPLC. Interestingly, scopolamine constituted most of the tropane alkaloids content in B. arborea, which suggests that B. arborea is a scopolamine-rich plant species. The scopolamine content was much higher in the leaves and stems than in other organs. The gene expression and TAs accumulation suggest that the biosynthesis of hyoscyamine, especially scopolamine, occurred not only in the roots but also in the aerial parts of B. arborea.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the perioperative benefit of suprapubic cystostomy in bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate (B-TURP) for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) below 80 g.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>This retrospective study was conducted in patients undergoing B-TURP for BPH below 80 g, who were stratified with respect of suprapubic cystostomy in B-TURP. The end points including the safety, efficiency, complications and nursing care were compared between the two groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>A total of 585 patients were enrolled, including 366 in cystostomy group and 219 in non-cystostomy group. The two groups showed similar postoperative reduction of serum sodium (0.06 vs 0.54 mmol/L, P>0.05), hematocrict (2.44% vs 2.89%, P>0.05), and blood hemoglobin concentration (9.62 vs 10.42 g/L, P>0.05), with comparable weight of resected prostate (42.50 vs 43.76 g, P>0.05). The operation time was significantly longer in cystostomy group than in non-cystostomy group (90.75 vs 76.28 min, P<0.05), but the rate of blood transfusion and incidences of postoperative fever and catheter blocking were comparable between the two groups. Compared with the non-cystostomy group, cystostomy group had significantly longer time for bladder washing (3.15 vs 2.57 days, P<0.05), catheter indwelling time (5.19 vs 4.15 days, P<0.05), and hospital stay after the operation (7.36 vs 5.65 days, P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>In B-TURP for BPH below the weight of 80 g, suprapubic cystostomy is associated with a longer time for operation, bladder washing, catheter indwelling and postoperative hospital stay, and thus provides no obvious benefits for the patients.</p>

RESUMEN

Hyoscyamine 6 beta-hydroxylase (H6H) is the last rate-limiting enzyme directly catalyzing the formation of scopolamine in tropane alkaloids (TAs) biosynthesis pathway. It is the primary target gene in the genetic modification of TAs metabolic pathway. Full-length cDNA and gDNA sequences of a novel H6H gene were cloned from Datura arborea (DaH6H, GenBank accession numbers for cDNA and gDNA are KR006981 and KR006983, respectively). Nucleotide sequence analysis reveals an open reading frame of 1375 bp encoding 347 amino acids in the cDNA of DaH6H, while the gDNA of DaH6H contains four exons and three introns, with the highest similarity to the gDNA of H6H from D. stramonium. DaH6H also exhibited the most identity of 90.5% with DsH6H in amino acids and harbored conserved 2-oxoglutarate binding motif and two iron binding motifs. The expression level of DaH6H was highest in the mature leaf, followed by the secondary root, and with no expression in the primary root based on qPCR analysis. Its expression was inhibited by MeJA. DaH6H was expressed in E. coli and a 39 kD recombinant protein was detected in SDS-PAGE. Comparison of the contents of scopolamine and hyoscyamine in various TAs-producing plants revealed that D. arborea was one of the rare scopolamine predominant plants. Cloning of DaH6H gene will allow more research in the molecular regulatory mechanism of TAs biosynthesis in distinct plants and provide a new candidate gene for scopolamine metabolic engineering.

Atropa belladonna is a medicinal plant and main commercial source of tropane alkaloids (TAs) including scopolamine and hyoscyamine, which are anticholine drugs widely used clinically. Based on the high throughput transcriptome sequencing results, the digital expression patterns of UniGenes representing 9 structural genes (ODC, ADC, AIH, CPA, SPDS, PMT, CYP80F1, H6H, TRII) involved in TAs biosynthesis were constructed, and simultaneously expression analysis of 4 released genes in NCBI (PMT, CYP80F1, H6H, TRII) for verification was performed using qPCR, as well as the TAs contents detection in 8 different tissues. Digital expression patterns results suggested that the 4 genes including ODC, ADC, AIH and CPA involved in the upstream pathway of TAs, and the 2 branch pathway genes including SPDS and TRII were found to be expressed in all the detected tissues with high expression level in secondary root. While the 3 TAs-pathway-specific genes including PMT, CYP80F1, H6H were only expressed in secondary roots and primary roots, mainly in secondary roots. The qPCR detection results of PMT, CYP80F1 and H6H were consistent with the digital expression patterns, but their expression levels in primary root were too low to be detected. The highest content of hyoscyamine was found in tender stems (3.364 mg x g(-1)), followed by tender leaves (1.526 mg x g(-1)), roots (1.598 mg x g(-1)), young fruits (1.271 mg x g(-1)) and fruit sepals (1.413 mg x g(-1)). The highest content of scopolamine was detected in fruit sepals (1.003 mg x g(-1)), then followed by tender stems (0.600 mg x g(-1)) and tender leaves (0.601 mg x g(-1)). Both old stems and old leaves had the lowest content of hyoscyamine and scopolamine. The gene expression profile and TAs accumulation indicated that TAs in Atropa belladonna were mainly biosynthesized in secondary root, and then transported and deposited in tender aerial parts. Screening Atropa belladonna secondary root transcriptome database will facilitate unveiling the unknown enzymatic reactions and the mechanisms of transcriptional control.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the effect of Angelica sinensis polysaccharides (ASP) on the length of telomere, the activity of telomerase and the expression of P53 protein in mice hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), and explore ASP's potential mechanism for regulating HSC aging.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into the normal group, the aging group and the intervention group. The aging group was radiated with X ray to establish the mice aging HSC model. The intervention group was orally administered with ASP during X-ray irradiation, while the normal group was orally administered with NS. Their HSCs were isolated by immunomagnetic beads. Cell cycles analysis and senescence-associated beta-galactosidase (SA-beta-Gal) staining were used to detect changes in aging HSCs. The expression of P53 was determined by western blot analysis. The length of telomere and the vitality of telomerase were analyzed by southern blot and TRAP-PCR, respectively.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>Compared with the normal group, X-ray irradiation could significantly increase the cell ratio of in HSC G1 stage, rate of SA-beta-Gal positive cells and expression of P53 protein, and reduce the length of telomere and the vitality of telomerase. Compared with the aging group, ASP could significantly inhibit the cell ratio of in HSC G1 stage and the increase in the number of SA-beta-Gal positive cells, down-regulate the expression of P53 protein, and increase the length of telomere and the vitality of telomerase in HSCs.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>ASP could antagonize X-ray-induced aging of HSCs, which may be related to the increase in the length of telomere and the activity of telomerase, as well as the down-regulation of the expression of P53 protein.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the clinical effects of Compound Xuanju Capsule combined with tamoxifen citrate on the seminal parameters of men with idiopathic oligozoospermia.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>We equally assigned 120 men with idiopathic oligozoospermia to receive Compound Xuanju Capsule plus tamoxifen citrate (experiment group) or tamoxifen citrate alone (control group). After 3 months of medication, we compared the concentration and total number of sperm with the baseline, and analyzed the influence of the duration of natural infertility on the therapeutic effect.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Both the concentration and total number of sperm were significantly increased in both the experiment and the control groups after 3 months of medication as compared with the baseline (P < 0.05), and the increases were even more significant in the former than in the latter group (P < 0.05). The therapeutic efficacy was remarkably better in the patients with natural infertility < or = years than in those > 3 years (P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Compound Xuanju Capsule combined with tamoxifen citrate produces satisfactory results in the treatment of idiopathic oligozoospermia, and therefore can be used as a first-line therapy for this disease.</p>

Objective To summarize the imaging features of intracranial solitary fibrous tumors (ISFT).Methods Ten patients with ISFT proven histopathologically were collected.Four cases had CT data and all cases had MR data.The imaging features and pathological results were retrospectively analyzed.Results All cases were misdiagnosed as meningioma at pre-operation.All lesions arose from intracranial meninges including 5 lesions above the tentorium,4 lesions beneath the tentorium and 1lesion growing around the tentorium.The margins of all the masses were well defined,and 8 lesions presented multilobular shape.CT demonstrated hyerattenuated masses in all 4 lesions,smooth erosion of the basicranial skull in 1lesion,and punctiform calcification of the capsule in 1lesion.T1WI showed most lesions with isointense or slight hyperintense signals including homogeneous in 4 lesions and heterogeneous in 6 lesions.T2WI demonstrated isointense or slight hyperintense in 2 lesions,mixed hypointense and hyperintense signals in 4,cystic portion in 2,and two distinct portion of hyperintense and hypointense signal,so called “yin-yang”pattern,in 2.Strong enhanced was found in all lesions,especially in 8 lesion with heterogeneous with the low T2 signal.“Dural tail” was found in 4 lesions.Conclusions ISFI has some specific CT and MR features including heterogeneous signal intensity on T2WI,strong enhancement of areas with low T2 signal intensity,slight or no “dural tail”,without skull thickening,and the typical “yin-yang” pattern.

<p><b>OBJECTIVES</b>To review the clinic data of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) cases, and to find the risk factors of recurrence in post transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) patients.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>From November 2002 to November 2007, 1471 cases were reviewed, including 41 patients of recurrence after TURP. Record the data include onset age, course of disease, age of surgery, LUTS, PSA, blood serum creatinine, size of the prostate in transabdomen ultrasonography, data of urodynamic examination, weight of resected tissue, persistence time of the resection, length of stay, score of inflammation of the pathologic sample, experience of the operator, routine blood examination, routine urine examination and so on. Statistical analysis was performed using univariate and multivariate unconditional Logistic regression analysis for evaluation of the data.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>In the univariate analysis, onset age (t = 2.292, P = 0.086), PVR (t = 2.181, P = 0.03), size of the prostate in transabdomen ultrasonography (t = -1.987, P = 0.047), experience of the operator (Z = 10.13, P = 0.0015) and the symptom that bladder does not feel completely empty right after urinating (chi(2) = 9.240, P = 0.002) had statistical significance. In the multivariate unconditional Logistic regression analysis, Odds ratio (OR) of the factors were investigated, the symptom that bladder does not feel completely empty right after urinating (OR = 0.557), the score for inflammation (OR = 0.905) and experience of the operator (OR = 0.393) had statistical significance.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The risk factors for elevating the incidence of post-TURP recurrence are the lower score for inflammation, younger onset age, having the symptom that bladder does not feel completely empty right after urinating, bigger size of prostate in transabdomen ultrasonography, lower post void residual urine volume and poor experience of the operator.</p>
