RESUMEN

In order to explore the adsorption characteristics of phosphorus from molecules with different molecular structures and varying number of phosphate groups on metal-modified biochar, walnut shell biochar was modified with LaCl3 to prepare lanthanum-loaded biochar (BC-La). Adsorption of four polar components, namely phytic acid (IHP), adenosine-5'-disodium triphosphate (5-ATP), hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid (HEDP), and sodium pyrophosphate (PP), was studied. The adsorption properties and mechanism of phosphorus sorption by BC-La were analyzed by SEM-EDS and FTIR for the different structures. The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity of BC-La for IHP, 5-ATP, HEDP, and PP was 85.85, 9.04, 15.80, and 14.45 mg/g, respectively. The adsorption capacity was positively correlated with the polarity of organic phosphorus. The adsorption behavior conformed to the quasi second-order kinetic fitting equation, and the increase of temperature was conducive to the removal of all four phosphorus pollutants. BC-La adsorbs IHP and HEDP mainly through electrostatic attraction. The adsorption of 5-ATP and PP is dominated by complexation. The La-modified biochar has broad prospects in water remediation, which can provide a theoretical basis for removal of different forms of phosphorus pollutants and prevention and control of water eutrophication.

RESUMEN

The loss of soil organic phosphorus can easily cause water eutrophication. In order to effectively reduce the loss of soil organic phosphorus, this manuscript investigated the adsorption of soil organic phosphorus by lanthanum modified biochar (BC), traditional adsorbent gypsum (GY) and zeolite (ZE) by taking phytic acid as the representative. The adsorption isotherm model and kinetic models were used to fit the phosphorus absorption characteristics of the adsorbents. The effects of initial pH and temperature on the adsorption capacity were discussed, and the adsorption mechanism of each adsorbent was explained by means of FTIR and XRD. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of phytate phosphorus followed the trend of BCTS > GYTS > ZETS > TS (soil), and the maximum phosphorus adsorption capacity obtained from Langmuir isotherm for treatment with BCTS was 2.836 mg g-1, and the treatment had the strongest affinity for phytate phosphorus and also the ability to store phosphorus. The adsorption process fits well with Langmuir isotherm equation and pseudo-second-order kinetic equation, and the adsorption behavior of phytate phosphorus was mainly controlled by the chemisorption of monolayer. When the concentration of phytate phosphorus was 100 mg L-1, percentage of modified biochar added to the soil was 3% and the pH was 6, the adsorption capacity reached the maximum, and the maximum adsorption capacity was 2.000 mg g-1. The results of FTIR and XRD characterization showed that complexation was the main adsorption mechanism. In this study, the combination of modified biochar and soil phytate phosphorus can provide a good theoretical basis for reducing the loss of soil organic phosphorus.

RESUMEN

The prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a global healthcare threat, particularly chronic hepatitis B (CHB) that might lead to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) should not be neglected. Although many types of HBV diagnosis detection methods are available, some technical challenges, such as the high cost or lack of practical feasibility, need to be overcome. In this study, the polycrystalline silicon nanowire field-effect transistors (pSiNWFETs) were fabricated through commercial process technology and then chemically functionalized for sensing hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis B virus X protein (HBx) at the femto-molar level. These two proteins have been suggested to be related to the HCC development, while the former is also the hallmark for HBV diagnosis, and the latter is an RNA-binding protein. Interestingly, these two proteins carried opposite net charges, which could serve as complementary candidates for evaluating the charge-based sensing mechanism in the pSiNWFET. The measurements on the threshold voltage shifts of pSiNWFETs showed a consistent correspondence to the polarity of the charges on the proteins studied. We believe that this report can pave the way towards developing an approachable tool for biomedical applications.

RESUMEN

This experiment aimed to explore the curative effect of Tuling Wendan Decoction combined with flunarizine on migraine patients and the intervention effect on serum cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), endothelin-1 (ET-1), nitric oxide(NO) levels. For this purpose, from January 2019 to January 2020, 96 patients with migraine in our hospital were selected as the research object. Using a simple randomization method, patients who meet the criteria were assigned 1:1, and each patient was assigned a random number, of which the number 1 to 48 were the observation group, and the number 49 to 96 were the control group. The control group was treated with flunarizine, and the observation group was treated with Tuling Wendan Decoction combined with flunarizine. Comparing the efficacy, incidence of adverse reactions, the incidence of headache, cerebral blood flow rate [basal artery (BA), vertebral artery (VA), middle cerebral artery (MCA)], vascular endothelial function (serum COX-2, ET-1, NO levels), neurological function [5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)] before treatment, 4 weeks and 8 weeks after treatment between the two groups. The results for efficacy showed that after 8 weeks of treatment, the total effective rate of the observation group (93.75%) was higher than that of the control group (77.08%, P<0.05). In regards to the situation of headache attack, the number of headache attacks, duration, pain degree and accompanying symptom scores of the observation group after 4 weeks and 8 weeks of treatment were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). Results of cerebral blood flow velocity showed that the blood flow velocity of BA, VA, MCA in the observation group was lower than that in the control group after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment (P<0.05). Vascular endothelial function results indicated that the serum COX-2 and ET-1 levels of the observation group were lower than those of the control group after 4 weeks and 8 weeks of treatment, and the serum NO levels were higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). The serum BDNF and CGRP levels of the observation group were lower than those of the control group after 4 weeks and 8 weeks of treatment, and the serum 5-HT levels were higher than the control group (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups was not statistically significant (P>0.05). It was concluded that Tuling Wendan Decoction combined with flunarizine is the first treatment for migraine, with definite curative effect and can effectively improve the onset of headache, reduce the speed of cerebral blood flow, regulate vascular endothelial function and nerve function, and ensure safety.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL) is a common form of deafness. Acupuncture has been used as a salvage therapy for ISSNHL in China since 200 BCE. However, the efficacy of acupuncture has not been confirmed in strictly controlled trials. We designed a randomized controlled clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and long-term effects of acupuncture in patients with early ISSNHL. METHODS/DESIGN: In this randomized controlled clinical trial, we will enroll 124 participants with ISSNHL diagnosed 2 to 4 weeks prior to enrollment, who have shown little hearing improvement after routine Western medical treatment (i.e., corticosteroids). 62 of these participants will have flat audiogram and the other 62 will have a high-frequency drop audiogram; they will all take Methycobal while half of the flat type and half of the high-frequency drop type will also receive acupuncture treatments for 4 weeks in a four-group design. The primary outcome measure will be the effective rate of hearing improvement (defined as the proportion of patients with at least 15-dB improvement in the hearing loss frequency band). The secondary outcome will measure the improvements in Pure Tone Average, Word Recognition Score, and Tinnitus Handicap Inventory. The assessments of the participants will be made at baseline, after treatment (week 4), and at follow-up (week 28). DISCUSSION: This study aims to explore the efficacy and long-term effects of acupuncture in patients with ISSNHL. This study will be a randomized controlled trial with strict methodology and few design deficits. If our study yields positive results, acupuncture could be recommended as a salvage therapy for patients with ISSNHL. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR-ICR-15006787 .
