RESUMEN

To evaluate the effect and its mechanism of heat-resistant antimicrobial peptide LLv on broilers, three hundred 1-day-old healthy AA+ female broilers were allocated into 5 groups with 6 replicates in each group and 10 birds in each replicate. Birds were given a basal diet, an antibiotic diet (10.2 mg/kg chlortetracycline hydrochloride), and the basal diet supplemented with 10, 50, and 100 mg/kg LLv for 42 d, respectively. Compared with the group which birds were fed an antibiotic-free basal diet (control group), supplementing 100 mg/kg LLv increased 21-day IgA, IgM, IL-4, AIV-Ab, IFN-γ levels and 42-day IgA, IgM, IL-4, AIV-Ab levels and reduced 42-day IL-1 levels in serum (P < 0.05). Compared with antibiotic group, the 10 and 50 mg/kg LLv decreased 42-day IgM levels in serum (P < 0.05). The 100 mg/kg LLv increased 21-day AIV-Ab levels and 42-day IL-4, AIV-Ab levels and reduced 42-day IL-1 levels in serum (P < 0.05). Compared with control group, the 100 mg/kg LLv increased the expression rate of sIgA secretory cells and sIgA content in jejunal mucosa at 21 d and 42 d (P < 0.05), which did not differ from antibiotic group (P > 0.05). Compared with antibiotic group, the 10 mg/kg LLv reduced 21-day sIgA content and the 50 mg/kg LLv reduced 42-d the expression rate of sIgA secretory cells in jejunal mucosa (P < 0.05). Compared with control group, the 100 mg/kg LLv increased the expression of TCR, IL-15, CD28, BAFF, CD86, CD83, MHC-II, and CD40 genes in jejunal mucosa at 21 d and 42 d (P < 0.05). Compared with antibiotic group, the 100 mg/kg LLv increased the expression of 21-day BAFF, CD40, MHC-II, CD83 genes and the expression of 42-day BAFF, TCR, IL-15, CD40, CD83 genes in jejunal mucosa (P < 0.05). The results showed that the addition of LLv to the ration had a promotional effect on the immune function of broiler chickens.

Cancer immunotherapy, despite its enormous application prospect, is trapped in the abnormal lactic acid metabolism of tumor cells that usually causes an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (ITM). Inducing immunogenic cell death (ICD) not only sensitizes cancer cells to carcer immunity, but also leads to a great increase in tumor-specific antigens. It improves tumor condition from "immune-cold" to "immune-hot". Herein, a near-infrared photothermal agent NR840 was developed and encapsulated into tumor-targeted polymer DSPE-PEG-cRGD and carried lactate oxidase (LOX) by electrostatic interaction, forming self-assembling "nano-dot" PLNR840 with high loading capacity for synergistic antitumor photo-immunotherapy. In this strategy, PLNR840 was swallowed by cancer cells, then dye NR840 was excited at 808 nm to generate heat inducing tumor cell necrosis, which further caused ICD. LOX could serve as a catalyst, reducing lactic acid efflux via regulation of cell metabolism. More importantly, the consumption of intratumoral lactic acid could substantially reverse ITM, including promoting the polarization of tumor-associated macrophages from M2 to M1 type, inhibiting the viability of regulatory T cells for sensitizing photothermal therapy (PTT). After the combination of αPD-L1 (programmed cell death protein ligand 1), PLNR840 restored CD8+ T-cell activity that thoroughly cleaned the pulmonary metastasis of breast cancer in 4T1 mouse model and cured hepatocellular carcinoma in Hepa1-6 mouse model. This study provided an effective PTT strategy to boost "immune-hot" and reprogrammed tumor metabolism for antitumor immunotherapy.

Objective: To explore the predictive value of single-index screening or multi-index combined screening for preeclampsia. Methods: From January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2021, pregnant women with a singleton pregnancy who had been regularly checked in each center since the first trimester (between 11 and 14 weeks of gestation) were retrieved from multiple participating centers. The risk calculation software LifeCycle 7.0 was used to calculate the risk values before 32 weeks, 34 weeks, and 37 weeks of gestation, and through a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, the predictive values of pregnancy-associated protein A (PAPP-A), the placental growth factor (PLGF), the mean arterial pressure (MAP), the uterine artery pulsatility index (UTPI), or a combined multi-index were calculated for preeclampsia. Results: Finally, 22 pregnant women developed preeclampsia, and the area under the ROC curve of the PAPP-A + PLGF + MAP + UTPI combined screening program was greater than that of other screening programs before 37 weeks of gestation (AUC = 0.975, 0.946, or 0.840 for <32 weeks, <34 weeks, or <37 weeks, respectively). At 32 weeks, the Youden index was at its maximum. Conclusion: PAPP-A + PLGF + MAP + UTPI combined screening is the optimal screening mode for preeclampsia screening before 37 weeks of gestation, and the combined prediction using multiple indicators in early pregnancy is more suitable for predicting the risk of early-onset preeclampsia.

Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy currently considered as to be effective way to cure cancer in clinic. However, the insufficient tumor immunogenicity and the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment always result in diminished efficacy of immunotherapy. Herein, we report the synthesis of an organic photo-immune activator NBS-1MT, the combination of photosensitizer and Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) inhibitor effectively stimulates lysosomes oxidative stress the releases inflammatory cytokines. This process triggers pyroptosis for the considerable immunogenic cell death (ICD) while reversing suppressive tumor microenvironment. The photo-immune drug shows outstanding potential to activate caspase-1and then remove gasdermin-D (GSDMD), which could stimulate pyroptosis and also inhibit the tumor growth successfully in both primary and distant tumor. Furthermore, pyroptosis activated by photodynamic therapy (PDT) promotes the immune related factors release, and enhance the intratumoral infiltration of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) with the induction of ICD of tumor cells and the cascaded synergize with IDO inhibitor, so the general antitumor immune response could be strengthened effectively. Our research confirms that the use of NBS-1MT is a promising strategy to boost the immune response and eventually to inhibit tumor growth.

BACKGROUND: Reproduction in most flowering plants may be limited because of the decreased visitation or activity of pollinators in fragmented habitats. Hedysarum scoparium Fisch. et Mey. is an arid region shrub with ecological importance. We explored the pollen limitation and seed set of Hedysarum scoparium in fragmented and restored environments, and examined whether pollen limitation is a significant limiting factor for seed set. We also compared floral traits and pollinator visitation between both habitats, and we determined the difference of floral traits and pollinators influenced reproductive success in Hedysarum scoparium. RESULTS: Our results indicated that supplementation with pollen significantly increased seed set per flower, which is pollen-limited in this species. Furthermore, there was greater seed set of the hand cross-pollination group in the restored habitat compared to the fragmented environment. More visits by Apis mellifera were recorded in the restored habitats, which may explain the difference in seed production between the fragmented and restored habitats. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, a positive association between pollinator visitation frequency and open flower number was observed. The findings of this study are important for experimentally quantifying the effects of floral traits and pollinators on plant reproductive success in different habitats.

OBJECTIVE: In a substudy of a randomized controlled trial, we investigated the effects of the valsartan/amlodipine single-pill combination and nifedipine gastrointestinal therapeutic system (GITS) monotherapy on brachial pulse pressure (bPP) and radial augmentation index (rAI) in patients with previously uncontrolled hypertension. METHODS: We performed measurements of clinic blood pressure (BP) and pulse rate and rAI (n = 63) and ambulatory BP monitoring (n = 42) at baseline and 12-week of follow-up. Analysis of covariance was performed to calculate the least square mean change from baseline and between-group differences [95% confidence interval (CI)]. Correlation analysis was performed to study the interrelationship between the changes in bPP and rAI and in pulse rate. RESULTS: After 12-week treatment, clinic and ambulatory SBP/DBP and pulse rate were not differently changed between the valsartan/amlodipine (n = 29) and nifedipine GITS groups (n = 34, P ≥ 0.06) except daytime SBP (P = 0.01). The reductions in 24-h and daytime ambulatory bPP were significantly greater in the former than the latter group (P ≤ 0.04). rAI increased slightly by 3.5% (P = 0.20) and 5.2% (P = 0.06) in the valsartan/amlodipine and nifedipine groups, respectively, with a between-group difference of -1.7% (95% CI -9.6 to 6.1%, P = 0.66). In the two groups combined, the changes in clinic and ambulatory bPP were not or weakly associated with that in clinic or ambulatory pulse rate (r = -0.14 to 0.36, P = 0.02-0.95), while the changes in rAI were more strongly or significantly associated with that in clinic or ambulatory pulse rate (r = -0.39 to -0.23, P = 0.02-0.16). CONCLUSIONS: Antihypertensive drug-induced changes in rAI but not bPP were dependent on pulse rate.

Application of cancer vaccines is limited due to their systemic immunotoxicity and inability to satisfy all the steps, including loading of tumor antigens, draining of antigens to lymph nodes (LNs), internalization of antigens by dendritic cells (DCs), DC maturation, and cross-presentation of antigens for T cell activation. Here, we present a combinatorial therapy, based on a α-cyclodextrin (CD)-based gel system, DOX/ICG/CpG-P-ss-M/CD, fabricated by encapsulating doxorubicin (DOX) and the photothermal agent indocyanine green (ICG). Upon irradiation, the gel system exhibited heat-responsive release of DOX and vaccine-like nanoparticles, CpG-P-ss-M, along with chemotherapy- and phototherapy-generated abundant tumor-specific antigen storage in situ. The released CpG-P-ss-M acted as a carrier adsorbed and delivered antigens to LNs, promoting the uptake of antigens by DCs and DC maturation. Notably, combined with PD-L1 blocking, the therapy effectively inhibited primary tumor growth and induced tumor-specific immune response against tumor recurrence and metastasis.

BACKGROUND: Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn stem (Hegeng [HG]) is a traditional Chinese medicine that is used to treat mental symptoms in East Asia. However, scientific evidence is generally lacking to support this traditional claim. Aim of the Study. This study's aim is to investigate the antidepression effect of HG and to further explore the possible molecular mechanisms that are involved in its actions. Materials and Methods. HG aqueous extract was administered intragastrically for 21 days after the chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) procedure, and its effect on memory, learning, and emotion was assessed using animal behavioral tests. HG aqueous extract was characterized using HPLC. Immunofluorescence was used to measure the neural cell-adhesion molecule (NCAM) and growth-associated protein-43 (GAP-43) expression. RESULTS: Depression-like behaviors increased in the CUMS group compared with the control (CON) group, while they were reduced in the high-dose HG (H-HG) and fluoxetine (FLU) groups (p < 0.05). Additionally, NCAM and GAP-43 expression was reduced in the CUMS group compared with the CON group, but it increased in the H-HG and FLU groups (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: These findings show the potential antidepressant effects of HG through mechanisms involving regulation of NCAM and GAP-43. This provides a new theoretical basis for its potential application as an antidepressant-like agent.

OBJECTIVE: Allergic asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease, which seriously affects the life quality of patients, especially children. Alanylglutamine is a nutritional supplement with potential protective and anti-inflammatory effects, but its function in allergic asthma remains elusive. In this study, we focused on the investigations of the roles and functional mechanism of Alanylglutamine in asthma. METHODS: Ovalbumin (OVA) induction was utilized to establish a mouse asthma model. 16S rDNA sequencing was performed to compare the diversity of intestinal microorganisms under different treatments. Gas chromatography was utilized to screen the intestinal microbe-short-chain fatty acids in the stool. The lung tissue was extracted to determine signaling pathways, including AMPK, NF-κB, mTOR, STAT3, IKKß, TGF-ß, and IL-1ß through Western blot or RT-qPCR. RESULTS: It was observed that Alanylglutamine reduced the cytokine in OVA-induced allergic asthma mice. H&E staining showed obvious pneumonia symptoms in the asthma group, while Alanylglutamine alleviated the inflammatory infiltration. Alanylglutamine reversed gut microbiota compositions in OVA-induced allergic asthma mice and enhanced the butyric acid level. The protective role of Alanylglutamine may be associated with the gut microbiota-butyric acid-GPR43 pathway in asthma mice. In contrast to the OVA group, Alanylglutamine activated the protein expression of P-AMPK/AMPK and inhibited the protein expression of P-mTOR/mTOR, P-P65/P65, P-STAT3/STAT3, P-IKKß/IKKß, TGF-ß, and IL-1ß, with similar effects from butyric acid. CONCLUSION: The results indicated that Alanylglutamine might be beneficial for asthma, and its effect was achieved through the regulation on microbiota and the derived metabolites. The therapeutic effects might be associated with AMPK, NF-κB, mTOR, and STAT3 signaling pathways. These findings will help identify effective therapeutic direction to alleviate allergic inflammation of the lungs and airways.

Purpose: Baroreflex emerges as a therapeutic target of hypertension. We investigated blood pressure (BP) lowering effect of the combined passive head-up and -down movement with device-guided slow breathing in untreated mild hypertension or high-normal BP. Methods: In a randomized, cross-over trial, untreated subjects with an ambulatory systolic/diastolic BP of 125-140/80-90 mmHg and a clinic BP of 130-150/80-90 mmHg were randomized to intervention treatment with head movement and slow breathing or sham control, and then crossed over. Both treatments consisted of 1-week preparation, 2-week treatment, and 1-week recovery. During the 2-week treatment, subjects were treated for a session of 20 min/day. BP, pulse rate and respiration were measured before and after each treatment session. Ambulatory BP monitoring was performed at baseline and the end of the 2-week treatments' period, and home BP monitoring in the morning and evening for the whole 8-week follow-up period. Results: 14 subjects completed the study. The intervention treatment, compared to control, reduced respiration rate by -2.1 breaths/min (95% CI -2.9 to -1.2, p = .0001), but not clinic BP and pulse rate (p ≥ .67). The intervention treatment, compared to control, significantly reduced nighttime systolic/diastolic blood pressure by -5.63/-3.82 mm Hg (p ≤ .01) but not 24-h or daytime ambulatory blood pressure (p ≥ .69). Home BP decreased with the intervention treatment, but the between-treatment difference was not statistically significant (p ≥ .27). Conclusions: The combined head movement with slow breathing did not influence 24-h BP, but reduced nighttime BP in untreated mild hypertension or high-normal BP.

BACKGROUND: Huazhuo Jiedu Shugan decoction (HJSD), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has been used to treat epileptic seizures for many years. Some ingredients in these herbs have been demonstrated to be effective for the treatment of brain damage caused by epilepsy. AIM OF THE STUDY: The object of the study is to determine the effects of HJSD on cognitive and emotional disorders in a rat model of epilepsy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: After a predetermined time period, rats were intraperitoneally injected with pentylenetetrazol and observed in different phases of convulsions. The cognitive and emotional changes in the epileptic rats were assessed using behavioral and immunohistochemical tests. RESULTS: Compared with the epilepsy group, the seizure grade was reduced and seizure latency was prolonged following HJSD-H treatment (P < 0.01). Compared with the control group, the epilepsy group displayed marked worse performance on the animal behavior tests (P < 0.05) and the HJSD-H group displayed improved behavioral performance (P < 0.05). After HJSD-H treatment, the expression of adenylate cyclase (AC), cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), cAMP-response element binding protein (CREB), and neuropeptide Y (NPY) immunoreactive cells markedly increased in the hippocampus, compared with that of the epilepsy group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The current results demonstrate that HJSD treatment in epileptic rats markedly inhibits epileptic seizures and improves cognitive and emotional disorders, which may be related to the regulation of AC-cAMP-CREB signaling and NPY expression in the hippocampus. The effects of the HJSD treatment may provide a foundation for the use of HJSD as a prescription medicinal herb in the TCM for the treatment of epilepsy.

In an 8-week randomized trial of patients with mild or moderate hypertension, the authors investigated the efficacy and tolerability of initial high (5.0 mg/d) vs low (2.5 mg/d) doses of S-(-)-amlodipine (equivalent to 5 and 10 mg of racemic amlodipine, respectively). In the S-(-)-amlodipine 2.5-mg group (n=263), 24-hour ambulatory systolic/diastolic blood pressure (±standard deviation) decreased from 131.5±15.0/82.1±10.7 mm Hg at baseline to 126.0±13.5/78.5±9.5 mm Hg at 8 weeks of follow-up by a least square mean (±standard error) change of 6.0±0.6/3.8±0.4 mm Hg. In the S-(-)-amlodipine 5-mg group (n=260), the corresponding changes were from 133.6±13.7/83.1±9.9 mm Hg to 125.0±12.0/78.2±8.9 mm Hg by 8.1±0.6/4.7±0.4 mm Hg, respectively. The between-group differences in changes in 24-hour systolic/diastolic blood pressure were 2.1/0.9 (P=.02/.17) mm Hg. Similar trends were observed for daytime and nighttime ambulatory and clinic blood pressure. The incidence rate was similar for all adverse events. An initial high dose of S-(-)-amlodipine improved ambulatory blood pressure control with similar tolerability as an initial low dose in hypertension.

Plants that grow in dune ecosystems always suffer from sand burial. Shrubs play implications on the healthy functioning of dune ecosystems due to control blowing sand. However, the survival and growth responses of shrubs to sand burial remain poorly understood. The survival rate and seedling height of two shrubs (Artemisia halodendron and Lespedeza davurica) along with the soil properties under different burial depths were examined in order to reveal the causing ecophysiological attributes of sand burial on shrubs in the desertified region. It was found that A. halodendron can survive a burial depth of 6 cm greater than its seedling height, which is a dominant shrub in mobile dunes with intense burial, whereas a burial depth equivalent to three fourths of its seedling height is detrimental to L. davurica, which is dominant in fixed dunes with less burial. The reasons for the shrub death under sand burial were associated with the physical barrier to vertical growth and the reduction in photosynthetic area. In conclusion, A. halodendron can facilitate the stabilization of mobile dunes because of their high tolerance to the frequent and intensive sand burial, while L. davurica can be beneficial for the recovery process because of their higher survival rates under shallow burial following restoration of mobile dunes.

Huang-Lian-Jie-Du Decoction (HLJDD) is a classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula with heat-dissipating and detoxifying effects. It is used to treat inflammation-associated diseases. However, no systematic pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) data concerning the activity of HLJDD under inflammatory conditions is available to date. In the present study, the concentration-time profiles and the hepatic clearance rates (HCR) of 41 major components in rat plasma in response to the oral administration of a clinical dose of HLJDD were investigated by LC-QqQ-MS using a dynamic multiple reaction monitoring (DMRM) method. Additionally, the levels of 7 cytokines (CKs) in the plasma and the body temperature of rats were analyzed. Furthermore, a PK-PD model was established to describe the time course of the hemodynamic and anti-inflammatory effects of HLJDD. As one of the three major active constituents in HLJDD, iridoids were absorbed and eliminated more easily and quickly than alkaloids and flavonoids. Compared with the normal controls, the flavonoids, alkaloids and iridoids in inflamed rats exhibited consistently changing trends of PK behaviors, such as higher bioavailability, slower elimination, delays in reaching the maximum concentration (Tmax) and longer substantivity. The HCR of iridoids was different from that of alkaloids and flavonoids in inflamed rats. Furthermore, excellent pharmacodynamic effects of HLJDD were observed in inflamed rats. The levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-1ß, IL-10, and macrophage inflammatory protein-2 (MIP-2) and body temperature significantly decreased after the administration of HLJDD. Based on PK-PD modeling with the three-phase synchronous characterization of time-concentration-effect, flavonoids exhibited one mechanism of action in the anti-inflammatory process, while iridoids and alkaloids showed another mechanism of action. Taken together, the results demonstrated that HLJDD may restrain inflammation synergistically via its major constituents (alkaloids, flavonoids and iridoids). A correlation between the exposure concentration of different types of compounds and their anti-inflammatory effects in the body was shown. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the anti-inflammatory activity of HLJDD.

RESUMEN

Fifteen compounds were isolated from the toad skin by a combination of various chromatographic methods including macroporous resin, silica gel, ODS and semi-preparative HPLC. Their structures were identified as 4,5-dimethyl-1,3,4,5-tetrahydropyrrolo[4,3,2-de]quinolin-6-ol(1), serotonin(2), N-methyl serotonin(3), O-methyl bufotenine(4), 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-6-hydroxy-ß-carboline(5), O-methylserotonin(6), glycinebetaine(7), caffeine(8), bufotenine(9), shepherdine(10), tryptophan(11), (5-hydroxy-1H-indol-3-yl)acetic acid(12), 5-hydroxy tryptophol(13), 2-methyl-6-hydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-ß-carboline(14), bufothionine(15). Among them, compound 1 was a new compound,compound 5 was a new natural product. Compounds 4-8 and 10-14 were separated from toad skin for the first time.

In traditional Chinese medicine, arsenous compounds, including arsenic trioxide (ATO), are often used to treat many diseases, which are safe and effective. Recently, studies have indicated that Th17- IL-17 involved in the pathogenesis and development of asthma. The goal of this study was to investigate the effect and mechanism of ATO on asthma, especially the Th17- IL-17 axis.We used oval bumin (OVA)-immunized mice as a model for asthma and treated mice with ATO or dexamethasone. The mice were then monitored airway responsiveness, airway inflammation, mucus production, IL-17 levels in BALF and the positive rate of Th17 cells. In vitro, CD4+ T cells from splenic cell suspensions were separated and purified. We measured the expression of IL-17 and caspase-12 protein in purified CD4+ T cells, and detected IL-17 levels in CD4+ T lymphocyte culture solution with or without ATO. Moreover, apoptosis, mitochondrial membrane potential, cytosolic calcium were analyzed. We found that ATO could reduce airway responsiveness, airway inflammation, mucus hyperplasia, the expression of IL-17 in BALF and the positive rate of Th17 cells at a level comparable to treatment with DXM. In vitro data suggested that ATO can induce CD4+ T cells apoptosis, cause mitochondrial dysfunction, Ca2+ overload and promote caspase-12 activation. Our study suggested that ATO had potential medical value for the treatment of human asthma..

OBJECTIVE: To observe the therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture (EA) combined with cupping at the lumbo-back on post-stroke fatigue. METHODS: A total of 128 cases of post-stroke fatigue patients were randomly divided into EA + cupping group and medication group, with 64 cases in each group. EA (20 Hz, 2 mA) was applied to Baihui (GV 20), Yintang (EX-HN 3), Shuigou (GV 26), Hegu (LI 4), Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), and Taichong (LR 3) for 30 min, once daily for 30 times, and cupping was applied at the patient's lumbo-back region once every two days, and continuously for 5 weeks. Patients of medication group were ordered to take compound aminobutyric acid vitamin E capsule (20 mg, t. i.d, po), magnesium gluconate solution (10 mL, t. i. d, po), sertraline hydrochloridetablet (50 mg, qd, po) for 5 weeks. The Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale (SS-QOL) was used to evaluate the patients' energy state. RESULTS: After the treatment, the energy scores of SS-QOL of both EA + cupping and medication groups were increased significantly in comparison with the pre-treatment in each group (P < 0.05), and that of the EA+ cupping group was significantly higher than the score of the medication group (P < 0.05). Of the two 64 cases in EA + cupping group and medication group, 42 and 23 were recovered basically, 13 and 13 experienced marked improvement, 7 and 18 were effective, 2 and 10 failed in the treatment, with the effective rates being 96.87% and 84.37% respectively. The effective rate of EA + cupping group was obviously higher than that of medication group (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: EA+ cupping at the lumbo-back can effectively relieve fatigue of post-stroke patients, and its therapeutic effect is superior to medication.

Soil crust is a common and widespread phenomenon in desert areas all over the world due to its extraordinary ability to survive desiccation and extreme temperatures, high pH and salinity. Despite its unassuming appearance, biological soil crusts play a significant role in desert ecosystems, including involvement in the process of formation, stability and fertility of soil, preventing soil erosion by water or wind, increasing the possibility of vascular plant colonization, and being responsible for the stabilization of sand dunes. This study taking Horqin Sand Land as research region, by field sampling, crust and topsoil (0-2.5 cm and 2.5-5 cm under crust) samples in different dune habitats and shrub communities were collected, and their physicochemical properties were analyzed, including particle size distribution, bulk density, total nutrients and available nutrients, pH, EC and CaCO3 content. The result revealed that Artemisia halodendron in semi-mobile dune, Caragana microphylla in semi-fix dune, Artemisia frigida in fix dune and Salix microstachya in interdunal lowland were respectively developed physical soil crust, algae crust, lichen crust and moss crust. Crust thickness, hardness, water content, fine fraction, total and available nutrients gradually increased by semi-mobile dune < semi-fix dune < fix dune < interdunal lowland in terms of different dune habitats, and by physical soil crust < algae crust < lichen crust < moss crust in terms of different crust types. There were significant differences among crust types on nutrient content and particle size distribution (p < 0.01). Meanwhile, crust enhanced the < 0.05 mm content and nutrient content of topsoil, following an increasing trend from semi-mobile dune to interdunal lowland. As to each crust, the parameters of 0-2.5 cm subsurface soil layer were higher than that in 2.5-5 cm soil layer. The result also showed that the fine fraction and nutrient content of moss crust under Salix microstachya in interdunal lowland were higher than others, so did the 0-5 cm subsurface soil under it.
