Objective: To analyze the expression of platelet membrane glycoprotein sialylation in primary immune thrombocytopenia and provide a reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Methods: 100 children with primary immune thrombocytopenia diagnosed and treated in the Children's Hospital of Yunhe District Central Hospital of Cangzhou City, Hebei Province from January 2020 to June 2022 were included in the study group. All children were treated with dexamethasone (DXMS) shock therapy; Another 20 healthy children who underwent routine physical examination at the same time were selected and included in the control group. The study measured the platelet membrane surface in plasma using flow cytometry in two groups: the comparative study group and the control group. The study measured the positive rates of α 2,3-sialic acid (α 2, 3-sa) and α 2,6-sialic acid (α 2, 6-sa) in both groups. The study also measured the positive rates of α 2,3-sialic acid (α 2, 3-sa) and α 2,6-sialic acid (α 2, 6-sa) before and after treatment in the comparative study group. At the same time, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to determine the content of sialic acid and sialidase activity and content in the serum. The detection values of α2, 3-SA, and α2, 6-SA expression of children in the study group and the control group were compared, and the detection values of α2, 3-SA, and α2, 6-SA expression of children in the study group before and after treatment were compared. Results: There was no significant difference in the positive rate of α 2, 3-sa between the study group and the control group (t=0.852, P > .05); Study Group: The positive rate of α 2,6-sa was significantly lower than that of the control group (P < .05). In the study group, there was no significant difference in the positive rate of α 2,3-sa before and after treatment (P > .05). However, after treatment, the positive rate of α 2,6-sa was significantly higher than before (P < .05). The study found that the children in the study group had significantly higher levels of serum sialic acid content, sialidase activity, and content than those in the control group (P < .05). After treatment, the children in the study group showed a decrease in serum sialic acid content, sialidase activity, and content, which was statistically significant (P < .05) compared to before treatment. Conclusion: The sialylation of platelet membrane glycoprotein is abnormally expressed in primary immune thrombocytopenia. The sialylation of platelet membrane glycoprotein may be involved in the occurrence and development of the disease. It is of great practical significance to diagnose and evaluate the therapeutic effect of the disease by detecting the sialylation of platelet membrane glycoprotein.

Arsenic is an environmentally ubiquitous toxic metalloid. Chronic exposure to arsenic may lead to arsenicosis, while no specific therapeutic strategies are available for the arsenism patients. And Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) exhibited protective effect in our previous study. However, the mechanisms by which GBE protects the arsenism patients remain poorly understood. A liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) based untargeted metabolomics analysis was used to study metabolic response in arsenism patients upon GBE intervention. In total, 39 coal-burning type of arsenism patients and 50 healthy residents were enrolled from Guizhou province of China. The intervention group (n = 39) were arsenism patients orally administered with GBE (three times per day) for continuous 90 days. Plasma samples from 50 healthy controls (HC) and 39 arsenism patients before and after GBE intervention were collected and analyzed by established LC-MS method. Statistical analysis was performed by MetaboAnalyst 5.0 to identify differential metabolites. Multivariate analysis revealed a separation in arsenism patients between before (BG) and after GBE intervention (AG) group. It was observed that 35 differential metabolites were identified between BG and AG group, and 30 of them were completely or partially reversed by GBE intervention, with 14 differential metabolites significantly up-regulated and 16 differential metabolites considerably down-regulated. These metabolites were involved in promoting immune response and anti-inflammatory functions, and alleviating oxidative stress. Taken together, these findings indicate that the GBE intervention could probably exert its protective effects by reversing disordered metabolites modulating these functions in arsenism patients, and provide insights into further exploration of mechanistic studies.

INTRODUCTION: Methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) can cause impulsive behavior, anxiety, and depression. Stimulation of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in MUD patients by intermittent theta burst repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (iTBS-rTMS) is effective in reducing cravings, impulsive behavior, anxiety, and depression. The purpose of this study was to explore whether these psychological factors helped to predict MUD patients' responses to iTBS-rTMS treatment. METHODS: Fifty MUD patients and sixty healthy subjects matched for general conditions were used as study subjects. The study randomly divided MUD patients into iTBS-rTMS and sham stimulation groups and received 20 sessions of real or sham iTBS-rTMS treatment, and the study collected cue-related evoked craving data before and after treatment. All subjects completed the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS). RESULTS: The MUD patients showed significantly higher levels of impulsivity, anxiety, and depression than the healthy subjects. The MUD patients who received the real treatment had significantly lower impulsivity, anxiety, and depression scores, and better treatment effects on cravings than the sham stimulation group. The Spearman rank correlation and stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that the baseline BIS-11 and the reduction rate (RR) of BIS-11 and RR of SDS were positively correlated with the decrease in cravings in the iTBS-rTMS group. ROC curve analysis showed that RR of SDS (AUC = 91.6 %; 95 % CI = 0.804-1.000) had predictive power to iTBS- rTMS therapeutic efficacy, the cutoff value is 15.102 %. CONCLUSIONS: iTBS-rTMS had a good therapeutic effect in MUD patients and the baseline impulsivity, the improved depression and impulsivity were associated with therapeutic effect of iTBS-rTMS. The improved depression had the potential to predict the efficacy of the iTBS-rTMS modality for MUD treatment.

BACKGROUND: Globally, Internet is a recognized form of leisure, but there are growing apprehensions about the increasing number of individuals developing an addiction to it. Recent research has focused on social issues associated with internet addiction (IA). However, the treatment of IA is currently unclear. This study aimed to explore the relationship between IA treatment outcomes and different intervention strategies through systematic review and data analysis of patients who received different intervention modes. METHODS: A meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.4 and Stata 14.2 on 57 literature research data from five Chinese and English databases, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Wanfang and CNKI. RESULT: A total of 57 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included in this network meta-analysis involving 3538 IA patients and 13 different interventions. The network meta-analysis results demonstrated that the top four interventions were: rTMS + CBT, drug + others, rTMS, and electro-acupuncture + CBT. CONCLUSION: Our study indicated that comprehensive therapy had an optimal therapeutic effect on IA patients and rTMS + CBT ranked first among all therapeutic indicators of intervention, indicating optimal clinical effectiveness.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical efficacy and action mechanism of moxibustion combined with western medication for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with blood stasis obstruction. METHODS: Fifty-six patients of RA with blood stasis obstruction were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 28 patients in each group. The patients in the control group were treated with oral administration of leflunomide tablets and celecoxib capsules, while the patients in the observation group were treated with moxibustion in addition to the treatment used in the control group. Moxibustion was performed at bilateral Zusanli (ST 36), Shenshu (BL 23), Xuehai (SP 10), and ashi points, once every other day, three times a week. The treatment duration for both groups was 12 weeks. The TCM syndrome score, disease activity score-28 (DAS-28), rheumatoid factor (RF), hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), hemorheological indexes (whole blood viscosity high shear, whole blood viscosity low shear, plasma viscosity), serum calcium ion (Ca2+) level, and platelet count (PLT) were observed before and after treatment, and the clinical efficacy was evaluated after treatment in the two groups. RESULTS: Compared with those before treatment, the TCM syndrome scores, DAS-28 scores, RF, hs-CRP, ESR, whole blood viscosity high shear, whole blood viscosity low shear, plasma viscosity, and PLT were decreased after treatment in both groups (P<0.01), with the observation group showing lower values compared with those in the control group (P<0.05). Compared with those before treatment, the serum Ca2+ levels were increased after treatment in both groups (P<0.01), and the observation group showed a higher increase than that in the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate was 85.7% (24/28) in the observation group, which was higher than 67.9% (19/28) in the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Moxibustion combined with western medication could alleviate clinical symptoms in patients with RA of blood stasis obstruction, and its mechanism may be related to the inhibition of platelet activation.

Background and objective: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) "programs" an elevated risk of metabolic dysfunctional disorders in the offspring, and has been associated with elevated leptin and decreased adiponectin levels in cord blood. We sought to assess whether docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) supplementation in GDM affects neonatal metabolic health biomarkers especially leptin and adiponectin. Methods: In a randomized controlled trial, singleton pregnant women with de novo diagnosis of GDM at 24-28 weeks of gestation were randomized to dietary supplementation of 500 mg DHA per day (intervention, n = 30) until delivery or standard care (control, n = 38). The primary outcomes were cord blood leptin and total adiponectin concentrations. Secondary outcomes included high-molecular-weight (HMW) adiponectin and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) concentrations in cord blood, maternal glycemic control post-intervention and birth weight (z score). In parallel, 38 euglycemic pregnant women were recruited for comparisons of cord blood biomarkers. Results: There were no significant differences in cord serum leptin, total and HMW adiponectin and IGF-1 concentrations between DHA supplementation and control groups (all p > 0.05). Maternal fasting and 2-h postprandial blood glucose levels at 12-16 weeks post-intervention were similar between the two groups. The newborns in the DHA group had higher birth weight z scores (p = 0.02). Cord blood total and HMW adiponectin concentrations were significantly lower in GDM vs. euglycemic pregnancies. Conclusion: Docosahexaenoic acid supplementation at 500 mg/day in GDM women did not affect neonatal metabolic biomarkers including leptin, adiponectin and IGF-1. The results are reassuring in light of the absence of influence on neonatal adipokines (leptin and adiponectin), and potential benefits to fetal growth and development. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of moxibustion on the ultrastructure of synovial cells of knee joint and serum cytokines in adjuvant arthritis (AA) rats, and to explore the potential mechanism of moxibustion in treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. METHODS: Forty-five Wistar male rats were randomly divided into a normal group, a model group and a moxibustion group, with 15 rats in each group. In the model group and the moxibustion group, the AA model was replicated under wind, cold and humid environment and by injection with complete freund's adjuvant. In the moxibustion group, moxibustion at "Zusanli" (ST 36) and "Shenshu" (BL 23) was used, 20 min each time, once daily, for consecutive 21 days. In the normal group and the model group, no intervention was processed. The scores of the knee joint swelling degree (JSD) and arthritis index (AI) were compared among groups. The ultrastructure of synovial cells of knee joint were observed under transmission electron microscope (TEM). The levels of serum cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interieukin (IL)-1ß, IL-6 and IL-10 were detected using ELISA method. RESULTS: Compared with the normal group, JSD and AI scores, the levels of TNF-α, IL-1ß and IL-6 were increased (P<0.01), while IL-10 was reduced (P<0.01) in the model group after intervention. JSD and AI scores, and the levels of TNF-α, IL-1ß and IL-6 were lower (P<0.05, P<0.01), while the level of IL-10 was higher (P<0.01) in the moxibustion group compared with the model group. Compared with the normal group, the ultrastructure of synovial cell was obviously damaged in the model group, and the damage was attenuated in the moxibustion group compared with the model group. CONCLUSION: Moxibustion can reduce the symptoms of arthritis in AA rats, which may be related to the improvement of the ultrastructure of synovial cells and the regulation of cytokines.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of comfort nursing on pain, quality of life, and nutritional status in children undergoing tonsillectomy. METHODS: In this retrospective study, a total of 114 children who underwent tonsillectomy in Chun'an Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were divided into a research group and a control group according to the nursing methods, with 57 cases in each group. The control group received routine nursing care, and the research group received additional comfort nursing. We compared the pain level (assessed by visual analogue scale (VAS) scale), quality of life (assessed by Generic Quality of Life Inventory-74 (GQOLI-74)), relevant clinical indicators (postoperative swallowing recovery time, wake-up time, and hospital stay), nutrition indicators (total blood protein and albumin), sleep quality (assessed by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PAQI)), nursing satisfaction, and postoperative complications between the two groups. RESULTS: After postoperative nursing, the VAS scores and PSQI scores were significantly decreased (both P<0.05), and the GQOLI-74 scores were significantly increased (P<0.05) in both groups. The postoperative swallowing recovery time, wake-up time, and hospital stay in the research group were significantly shorter than those in the control group (all P<0.05). The levels of total serum protein and albumin in the research group were significantly higher than those in the control group (both P<0.05). The research group showed a significantly higher satisfaction rate and lower incidence of complications as compared with the control group (both P<0.05). The results of the logistic regression analysis showed that postoperative upper respiratory infection and the degree of tonsillar embedment were independent risk factors for hemorrhage after tonsillectomy (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: In children undergoing tonsillectomy, providing comfort nursing can significantly reduce pain and improve their quality of life.

Severe skin wound healing is mainly hindered by bacterial infection and uncontrolled inflammatory reaction. As a wound dressing, multifunctional hydrogel is expected to offer the potential possibility for overcoming current barriers in wound therapeutics. Herein, a natural drug molecule (glycyrrhizic acid, GA) and metal ion (Fe2+) were used to achieve the metal coordination-induced gelation. This as-prepared Fe2+-induced GA hydrogel showed excellent injectability, self-healing property, and sustained release behavior at a relatively lower concentration of GA, thereby reducing the high dose-caused cytotoxicity. In addition to acting as an inducer of gelation, Fe2+ promoted the antibacterial performance of hydrogel against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus through causing lipid peroxidation, membrane damage, and DNA degradation. Moreover, the released GA from hydrogel significantly accelerated cell migration and inhibited the inflammatory reaction by mediation of NF-κB signaling pathway to downregulate levels of important inflammatory cytokines in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Using a mouse skin infected model, we revealed that the Fe2+/GA hydrogel applied to the wound resulted in the rapid wound healing. It is believed that the construction of natural drug molecule-derived hydrogel with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory capabilities may shed a new light to serve as a promising dressing for managing the severe skin wounds.

Melanoma is an aggressive tumor located in skin with high rates of recurrence and metastasis. Due to the limited traditional therapies, the development of novel strategies against melanoma is urgently quested. To reduce the side effects of traditional administration ways and amplify the killing effect, an injectable sodium alginate (SA)-based hydrogels were developed, in which CaCO3/polydopamine nanoparticles (CaCO3/PDA NPs) were embedded for the synergistic photothermal/calcium ions interference therapy of melanoma. In the study, the formation conditions and mechanical properties of CaCO3/PDA-SA hydrogels were characterized, and their antitumor efficiency and mechanism against mouse melanoma cells were investigated. Wheninjectedintratumorally, CaCO3/PDA-SA fluid was converted into hydrogel in situ through the interaction of pH-sensitive released Ca2+ and alginate chains, which increased the retention time of photothermal agents (CaCO3/PDA NPs) at tumor sites and thereby was more conducive to produce hyperthermia via photothermal conversion to combat melanoma. Moreover, in acidic tumor microenvironment, the residual CaCO3/PDA NPs in hydrogels continuously decomposed and released Ca2+ to destroy the Ca2+ buffering capacity and evoke the mitochondrial Ca2+-overloading, resulting in the inhibition of adenosine triphosphate production to accelerate cell death. Notably, besides the heat elevation, the near-infrared light (NIR) irradiation would further enhance the release of Ca2+ to promote the Ca2+-involved cell death. Therefore, a pH/NIR-responsive and injectable SA-based hydrogels were successfully established and showed enhanced treatment efficacy of melanoma through the synergism of photothermal therapy and calcium ions interference therapy.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of acupuncture therapy based on "gut-brain axis" on clinical manifestations and gastrointestinal symptoms of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). METHODS: A total of 66 children with ASD were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 33 cases in each group. The control group was treated by routine rehabilitation training. On the basis of the control group, the observation group was treated with acupuncture based on "gut-brain axis", and the acupoints were Touwei (ST 8), Shenting (GV 24), Sishencong (EX-HN 1), Tianshu (ST 25), Zhongwan (CV 12), Zusanli (ST 36), etc. Both treatments were given once every other day, 3 times a week, 4 weeks as a course of treatment, consecutively for 3 courses. The scores of autism behavior checklist (ABC), TCM symptoms of gastrointestinal disease and childhood autism rating scale (CARS) were compared between the two groups before and after treatment, and the clinical efficacy was evaluated. RESULTS: After treatment, the scores of ABC, CARS and TCM symptoms of gastrointestinal disease in the two groups were lower than before treatment (P<0.05), and those in the observation group were lower than the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate of the observation group was 90.9% (30/33), which was higher than 81.8% (27/33) in the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: On the basis of routine rehabilitation training, acupuncture therapy based on "gut-brain axis" is effective in treating ASD, which can relieve the clinical manifestations and gastrointestinal symptoms.

Biomass valorization is essential, particularly in emerging countries. Here, hydrochar from arabica coffee straw was functionalized with a triazole group (HD-TRz) for use as a support of palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs-HD-TRz) applied in the Ullmann coupling reaction for the first time. It provided remarkably excellent selectivities, conversions at a temperature as low as 45 °C and catalyst recyclability, surpassing previous literature performances. Hydrochar was obtained by one-pot reaction via hydrothermal synthesis, using NaOH solution as activating agent and functionalized with a 1,3-triazole group by CuAAC "click" reaction. The PdNPs were prepared via reduction of hydrochar-bound Pd(II) using NaBH4. Hydrochar functionalization was monitored by infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) allowed to observe carbon and palladium planes in hydrochar and PdNPs HD-TRz structures. The PdNPs presented a spherical shape with 2.1 ± 0.1 nm size, homogeneously distributed in the carbon coverslips. The HD-TRz-supported PdNPs were used as a catalyst in the Ullmann reaction of iodobenzene, using ethanol as solvent with 100% of conversion and 91% selectivity at 45 °C. The material was reused, presenting 100% of conversion and selectivities of 92, 84 and 73% for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle, respectively. The scope of the reaction was expanded to other molecules showing the potential of this and other triazole-hydrochar-supported nanocatalysts.

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is an anionic phospholipid in the eukaryotic membrane and is abundant in the brain. Accumulated studies have revealed that PS is involved in the multiple functions of the brain, such as activation of membrane signaling pathways, neuroinflammation, neurotransmission, and synaptic refinement. Those functions of PS are related to central nervous system (CNS) diseases. In this review, we discuss the metabolism of PS, the anti-inflammation function of PS in the brain; the alterations of PS in different CNS diseases, and the possibility of PS to serve as a therapeutic agent for diseases. Clinical studies have showed that PS has no side effects and is well tolerated. Therefore, PS and PS liposome could be a promising supplementation for these neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases.

Objectives: To investigate the independent and collective effects of maternal folic acid supplementation or dietary folate intake on the risk of low birth weight (LBW), and to further comprehensively examine the joint associations of folic acid supplementation and dietary folate intake with LBW by various clinical subtypes. Design: Participants were recruited from Gansu Provincial Maternity and Child Care Hospital. A standardized and structured questionnaire was distributed to collect demographic factors, reproductive and medical history, occupational and residential history, physical activity, and diet. Data on pregnancy-related complications and birth outcomes were extracted from medical records. Unconditional logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for single and joint associations of folic acid supplementation and dietary folate intake with LBW. Setting: A birth cohort data analysis using the 2010-2012 Gansu Provincial Maternity and Child Care Hospital in Lanzhou, China. Participants: In total, 9,231 pregnant women and their children were enrolled in the study. Results: Compared with non-users, folic acid supplementation was associated with a reduced risk of LBW (OR: 0.80, 95% CI: 0.66-0.97), and the reduced risk was mainly seen for term-LBW (OR: 0.59, 95% CI: 0.41-0.85), and multiparous-LBW (OR: 0.72, 95% CI: 0.54-0.94). There were no significant associations between dietary folate intake and LBW, and there was no interaction between folic acid supplement and dietary folate intake on LBW. Conclusions: Our study results indicated that folic acid supplementation was associated with a reduced risk of LBW, and there was no interaction between folic acid supplements and dietary folate intake on LBW.

A novel deep-ultraviolet and dual-emission carbon nanodots (DUCDs)-based dual-channel ratiometric probe was prepared by a one-pot environmental-friendly hydrothermal process using guanidine as the only starting material for sensing polyphenol in tea sample (TPPs). Under the exposure to TPPs, the DUCDs not only provided a characteristic colorimetric response to TPPs, but also displayed TPPs-sensitive ratiometric fluorescence quenching. The detection mechanism was proved to be that enrichment-specific hydroxyl sites (e.g., -NH2 and -COOH) of DUCDs can specifically react with phenolic hydroxyl groups of TPPs to generate dynamic amide and carboxylate bonds by dehydration and/or condensation reaction. As a result, a new carbon nanomaterial with decrement of surface passivation groups, inherent light-absorbing, and invalid fluorescence emission was generated. The ratio (FL297nm/FL395nm) of fluorescence intensity at 297 nm and 395 nm of DUCDs excited at 275 nm decreased with increasing TPPs concentration. The linearity range was 5.0 ng/mL to 100 µg/mL with a detection limit (DL) of 3.5 ± 0.04 ng/mL for TPPs (n = 3, 3σ/k). Colorimetry of DUCDs, best measured as absorbance at 320 nm, was increased linearly in the TPP concentration range 200 ng/mL-200 µg/mL with a DL of 94.7 ± 0.04 ng/mL (n = 3, 3σ/k). The probe was successfully applied to the determination of TPPs in real tea samples, showing potential application prospects in food analysis.

Purpose: This investigation intended to unravel the effect and mechanism of naringin on the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). Methods: hDPSCs were induced to differentiate, and the degree of cell differentiation was observed by alizarin red staining, Oil Red O staining, and Alcian blue staining. hDPSCs were treated with 0, 20, 40, and 80 µmol/L naringin for 48 h, respectively. The proliferation rate and chemotaxis of the cells were measured by MTT and transwell assay, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and osteogenic differentiation degree by ALP staining and alizarin red staining, and gene expression of osteogenic markers by qRT-PCR. Additionally, western blot was performed to test the levels of Wnt/ß-catenin signaling-related proteins in hDPSCs. Results: The isolated hDPSCs with spindle-shaped morphology had good differentiation capability. Further experiments confirmed naringin-caused increases in the proliferation rate and migration ability of hDPSCs. In addition, compared with the control group, naringin-treated cells had strong ALP activity and ossification levels and higher expression of Runx2, OPN, DSPP, and DMP1. The western blot results showed that naringin significantly activated Wnt/ß-catenin signaling in hDPSCs. Conclusion: Taken together, naringin enhances the proliferation, migration, and osteogenesis of hDPSCs through stimulating Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can lead to severe social behavioral difficulties, which mainly manifests as social communication and interaction disorders; narrow interests; and repetitive, stereotyped behaviors. In recent years, the prevalence of ASD has increased annually, and it has evolved from a rare disease to one with a high incidence among childhood developmental disorders. The pathogenesis of ASD is considered to be the interaction of genetic and environmental factors. There is increasing evidence that vitamin D deficiency in pregnancy and early childhood can lead to the occurrence of ASD. Studies have demonstrated that vitamin D intervention can significantly improve the symptoms of ASD, but the underlying mechanism is still unclear. Therefore, exploring the neuroprotective mechanism of vitamin D against ASD is a huge challenge currently being worked on by current basic and clinical researchers, a task which is of great significance for the clinical promotion and optimization of vitamin D in the treatment of ASD. To further clarify the relationship between vitamin D and ASD, this review summarizes the correlation between vitamin D level and ASD, the effects of vitamin D supplementation on ASD, the possible mechanism of vitamin D involved in ASD, and insights from ASD animal models.

Objective: To explore the effect of patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) based on enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) on the postoperative recovery of patients undergoing gynecological laparoscopic surgery. Methods: Between January 2019 and December 2020, 90 patients scheduled for gynecological laparoscopic surgery and assessed for eligibility were recruited and randomly assigned at a ratio of 1 : 1 to receive either conventional analgesic management (regular group) or PCEA based on ERAS (ERAS group). Comparisons of postoperative rehabilitation indicators, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, self-care ability, complications, and nursing satisfaction were conducted between the two groups. Results: The ERAS group had significantly shorter first exhaust time (FET), first defecation time (FDT), out-of-bed activity time (OAT), and length of stay (LOS) versus the regular group (P < 0.05). The VAS scores were significantly decreased after treatment, with lower results observed in the ERAS group (P < 0.05). The level of self-responsibility, self-concept, self-care skills, and health knowledge increased significantly in both groups after the intervention, and the ERAS group showed significantly higher results than the regular group (P < 0.05). The total incidence of complications in the ERAS group was significantly lower than that in the regular group (P < 0.05). Eligible patients given PCEA based on ERAS were associated with a higher nursing satisfaction (97.78%) versus conventional analgesic management (82.22%) (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The application of ERAS for postoperative PCEA management in gynecological laparoscopy provides promising results by effectively enhancing the quality of surgery and promoting rapid postoperative recovery, with a good safety profile.

BACKGROUND: Menopausal symptoms can affect the physical and mental health of females and are often related to abnormal function of the hypothalamus. In this study, we evaluated changes in the hypothalamus transcriptome in ovariectomized mice to identify key mRNAs, and systematically elucidated the possible molecular mechanisms underlying the menopausal syndrome to provide a theoretical basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment. METHODS: Forty-six adult female C57BL/6 J mice were randomly divided into SHAM and OVX groups, 23 mice per group. Eight weeks after the procedure, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the hypothalamus were identified through RNA-sequencing. DEGs were analyzed using Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genome (KEGG) analyses. Key DEGs were then evaluated using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and immunohistochemical staining. RESULTS: Compared with SHAM group, 7295 genes were upregulated, and 8979 genes were downregulated in the hypothalamus of OVX mice with a fold change of 1.5 (log2 fold change ≥0.585). GO and KEGG analyses suggested these key genes were involved in thermoregulation, food intake, glucose and lipid metabolism, cardiovascular regulation, biological rhythm, and endocrine regulation. CONCLUSIONS: Differential expression of genes in the hypothalamus of OVX mice involved in thermoregulation, eating, sleeping, homeostasis, and endocrine regulation 8 weeks after ovariectomy suggest potential roles in the pathogenesis of climacteric syndrome.

The distribution patterns and health risk assessment of nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (NPAHs), hydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (OH-PAHs), and regular 16 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sediment from the Songhua River in northeastern China were investigated in this research. During dry seasons, concentrations of 16 USEPA priority PAHs, OH-PAHs, and NPAHs were extremely high, with average values of 1220 ± 288, 317 ± 641, 2.54 ± 3.98, and 12.2 ± 22.1 ng/g (dry weight, dw). The dry period level was confirmed to be 4 times greater than the wet period concentration. Modeling with positive matrix factorization (PMF) and estimation of diagnostic isomeric ratios were applied for identifying sources, according to the positive matrix factorization model: vehicle emissions (38.1%), biomass burning (25%), petroleum source (23.4%), and diesel engines source (13.5%) in wet season as well as wood combustion (44.1%), vehicle source (40.2%), coke oven (10.8%), and biomass burning (4.9%) in the dry season. The greatest seasonal variability was attributed to high molecular weight compounds (HMW PAHs). BaP was confirmed to be 81% carcinogenic in this study, which offers convincing proof of the escalating health issues.
