Objective: To investigate the effect of the intervention program based on the Interaction Model of Client Health Behavior (IMCHB) in patients with pressure injury (PI). Methods: The First Affiliated Hospital of Qiqihar Medical University received thirty patients suspected of having pressure injuries from June to December 2022. These patients were selected as the control group. Another thirty patients suspected of having pressure injuries were received by the hospital from January to June 2023 and were selected as the experimental group. The experimental group received a usual care protocol, while the trial group received the IMCHB model intervention for three months. The study compared the knowledge of pressure injuries, quality of life, incidence of pressure injuries, and patient satisfaction of high-risk patients between the two groups. Results: After the intervention, the PI awareness score of caregivers in the experimental group was (31.90 ± 5.24). It is higher than the control group (26.37 ± 6.85). The point of social function, physical function and material function of experimental group were (57.03 ± 5.32), (33.47 ± 3.52) and (58.53 ± 6.93). Respectively, it was higher than the experimental group (48.63 ± 4.80), (27.17 ± 3.04), (46.13 ± 6.72). The incidence of high-risk PI in the experimental group was 3.33%. The point of the control group was 26.67%. The total satisfaction of the experimental group was (8.27 ± 0.78) points, higher than the control group (7.30 ± 0.65). The difference was of statistical significance (P < .05). Conclusion: The intervention program based on IMCHB can significantly improve cognitive ability and thus promote health behavior.

PURPOSE: To explore possible mechanism(s) underlying beneficial effects of acupuncture treatment for alleviating focal cerebral infarction-induced neuronal injury, mitochondrial biogenesis, energy metabolism, oxidative stress and dendrite regeneration were evaluated in rats with experimentally induced cerebral ischemia and dendron reperfusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Rats were randomly assigned to three groups (sham-operated, operated group without acupuncture, operated group with acupuncture). RT-PCR and Western blotting were used to assess variations of hippocampal cell mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number and mRNA and protein expression levels associated with key mitochondrial biogenesis proteins, namely peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α), nuclear respiration factor 1 (NRF-1) and mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM). To evaluate mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation and respiratory function in ischemic tissues, oxidative phosphorylation protein complex expression levels were assessed via Western blot analysis, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) was assessed via confocal microscopy and flow cytometry and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) concentration was assessed using an enzymatic fluorescence-based assay. Immunofluorescence staining was used to evaluate the expression of the neuronal dendron formation marker-Microtubule Associated Protein 2 (MAP2). Additionally, oxidative stress levels were assessed based on superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, lipid oxidation levels (malondialdehyde, MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels. Meanwhile, 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining, Nissl staining, transmission electron microscopy observation and neuro behavioral status were used to determine cerebral infarction volume and extent of brain injury. RESULTS: Acupuncture treatment effectively stimulated mRNA-level and protein-level expression associated with PGC-1α, NRF-1 and TFAM and increased levels of electron transport chain complexes I, IV and V, thereby increasing the ATP concentration, maintaining mitochondrial membrane potential, and promoting dendron regeneration levels. Meanwhile, in hippocampal neurons SOD activity and the glutathione/glutathione disulfide (GSH/GSSG) ratio increased and MDA level decreased. CONCLUSION: Acupuncture treatment after ischemic injury promoted mitochondrial biogenesis, as reflected by beneficially increased mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation complex protein levels and brain tissue energy supply, while preventing oxidative stress injury. These results should guide future explorations to elucidate acupuncture-based mechanisms for alleviating neuronal injury triggered by acute cerebral ischemia.

Background: Ischemic stroke (IS) is a leading cause of long-term disability and even mortality, threatening people's lives. Yinao Fujian (YNFJ) formula is a Traditional Chinese Medicine formula that has been widely used to treat patients with IS. However, the molecular mechanism of YNFJ for the treatment of IS is still elusive. Our study aimed to explore the potential protective effect and the underlying mechanisms of YNFJ on IS using a network pharmacology approach coupled with experimental validation. Materials and methods: Effective compounds of YNFJ were collected from BATMAN-TCM and TCMSP databases, while IS targets were obtained from GeneCards, OMIM, TTD and DrugBank databases. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed to further screen the hub targets of YNFJ in IS treatment. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses were used to identify the critical biological processes and signaling pathways of YNFJ for IS. Moreover, Nissl staining, HE, TTC staining and Tunel staining were used in the MCAO model to prove the neuroprotective effect of YNFJ. Oxidative damage, inflammatory factor release and related pathways were tested in MCAO rat model and hypoxia-induced BV2 cell model, respectively. Results: We found that YNFJ treatment significantly alleviated MCAO-induced nerve damage and apoptosis. Then, network pharmacology screening combined with literature research revealed IL6, TNF, PTGS2, NFKBIA and NFE2L2 as the critical targets in a PPI network. Moreover, the top 20 signaling pathways and biological processes associated with the protective effects of YNFJ on IS were enriched through GO and KEGG analyses. Further analysis indicated that NF-κB and Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathways might be highly involved in the protective effects of YNFJ on IS. Finally, in vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed that YNFJ inhibited the release of inflammatory factors (IL-6 and TNF-α) and MDA content, and increased the activity of SOD. In terms of the mechanism, YNFJ inhibited the release of inflammatory factors by suppressing the NF-κB pathway and decreased the expression of iNOS and COX-2 to protect microglia from inflammation damage. In addition, YNFJ initiated the dissociation of Keap-1 and Nrf2, and activated the downstream protein HO-1, NQO1, thus decreasing oxidative stress. Conclusion: Taken together, the findings in our research showed that the protective effects of YNFJ on IS were mainly achieved by regulating the NF-κB and Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathways to inhibit oxidative stress damage and inflammatory damage of microglia.

The use of municipal solid waste incineration fly ash, commonly referred to as "fly ash", as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM), has been explored to mitigate the CO2 emissions resulting from cement production. Nevertheless, the incorporation of fly ash as an SCM in mortar has been shown to weaken its compressive strength and increase the risk of heavy metal leaching. In light of these challenges, this study aims to comprehensively evaluate the influence of CO2 pressure, temperature, and residual water/binder ratio on the CO2 uptake and compressive strength of mortar when combined with fly ash. Additionally, this study systematically examines the feasibility of mechanochemical pretreatment, which enhances the homogenization of fly ash and augments the density of the mortar's microstructure. The results indicate that the use of mechanochemical pretreatment leads to a notable 43.6% increase in 28-day compressive strength and diminishes the leaching of As, Ba, Ni, Pb, Se, and Zn by 17.9-77.8%. Finally, a reaction kinetics model is proposed to elucidate the CO2 sequestration process under varying conditions. These findings offer valuable guidance for incorporating fly ash as an SCM and CO2 sequestrator in mortar.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Erzhi pills (EZP), a traditional Chinese medicine formula prescribed for the treatment of vitiligo, has shown promising efficacy. However, the oral bioactive components and mechanisms underlying the promotion of melanogenesis by EZP remain unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aimed to investigate the pharmacological basis and mechanism of EZP in promoting melanogenesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: UHPLC-TOF-MS analysis was used to identify absorbed phytochemicals in serum after oral administration of EZP. Network pharmacology methods were used to predict potential targets and pathways involved in the melanogenic activity of EZP, resulting in the construction of a "compound-target-pathway" network. Zebrafish and B16F10 cells were used to evaluate the effects of EZP on tyrosinase activity and melanin content. Western blot and ELISA analyses were used to validate the effects of EZP on melanogenesis-related proteins, including MITF, TYR, CREB, p-CREB, and cAMP. RESULTS: UHPLC-TOF-MS analysis identified 36 compounds derived from EZP in serum samples. Network pharmacology predictions revealed 89 target proteins associated with the identified compounds and closely related to vitiligo. GO and KEGG analyses indicated the involvement of the cAMP/PKA signaling pathway in the promotion of melanogenesis by EZP. Experimental results showed that EZP increased tyrosinase activity and melanin content in zebrafish and B16F10 cells without inducing toxicity. Western blot and ELISA results suggested that the melanogenic effect of EZP may be related to the activation of the cAMP/PKA signaling pathway. These results confirm the feasibility of combining serum pharmacological and network pharmacological approaches. CONCLUSIONS: EZP have the potential to increase tyrosinase activity and melanin content in zebrafish and cells possibly through activation of the cAMP/PKA pathway.

BACKGROUND: Stroke is a neurological disease with many common complications that reduce the activities of daily living and the quality of life of patients. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) rehabilitation techniques, scalp acupuncture, and TCM can relieve spasticity symptoms and recovery from physical obstacles is significant. METHODS: Three hundred twenty-one patients with post-stroke limb spasticity were randomly divided into trial and control groups, with 159 and 162 patients in the trial and control groups, respectively. The control group received basic treatment combined with modern rehabilitation techniques, whereas the trial group received basic treatment combined with TCM, Tuina, and scalp acupuncture with kinesiotherapy. The treatment course in both groups was 4 weeks. The Modified Ashworth Scale, magnetic resonance imaging, and Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale were used to evaluate limb spasticity, activities of daily living, and quality of life, respectively. PASW 18.0 was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: With a longer treatment period, the improvement in limb spasticity was greater in the trial group than in the control group (P < .05). Similarly, improvements in activities of daily living and quality of life were better in the trial group than in the control group (P < .05). CONCLUSION: The TCM rehabilitation program using Tongjing Tiaoxing combined with scalp acupuncture and kinesiotherapy can effectively treat spasticity symptoms in stroke patients and improve their activities of daily living and quality of life.

With the global epidemic and prevention of the COVID-19, long COVID-19 sequelae and its comprehensive prevention have attracted widespread attention. Long COVID-19 sequelae refer to that three months after acute COVID-19, the test of SARS-CoV-2 is negative, but some symptoms still exist, such as cough, prolonged dyspnea and fatigue, shortness of breath, palpitations and insomnia. Its pathological mechanism is related to direct viral damage, immunopathological response, endocrine and metabolism disorders. Although there are more effective methods for treating COVID-19, the treatment options available for patients with long COVID-19 remain quite limited. Psychophysical therapies, such as exercise, oxygen therapy, photobiomodulation, and meditation, have been attempted as treatment modalities for long COVID-19, which have the potential to promote recovery through immune regulation, antioxidant effects, and neuroendocrine regulation. Neuroendocrine regulation plays a significant role in repairing damage after viral infection, regulating immune homeostasis, and improving metabolic activity in patients with long COVID-19. This review uses oxytocin as an example to examine the neuroendocrine mechanisms involved in the psychophysical therapies of long COVID-19 syndrome and proposes a psychophysical strategy for the treatment of long COVID-19.

Cerebral ischemic stroke is a high-risk disease and imposes heavy burdens on patients in china. Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to treat motor dysfunction, cognitive disorder and language barrier caused by cerebral ischemic stroke. Acupoint lines, vertex middle line and anterior oblique line of vertex temple, are always employed to treat cerebral ischemic stroke. However, the mechanism of the two acupoint lines in relieving cerebral ischemic stroke needs further exploration. In the present study, scalp acupuncture treatment alleviated the motor dysfunction, brain damage, and cell death induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in rats. Proteomics analysis and ultrastructure observation indicated that endoplasmic reticulum and lysosomes might involve in the mechanism of the scalp acupuncture treatment in suppressing MCAO-triggered neural deficits. Effect of the scalp acupuncture treatment on ER stress was then investigated and found that the activation of ER stress mediators, including PERK, IRE1, and ATF6, was downregulated after the scalp acupuncture treatment. Co-localisation analysis of KDEL and CD63 showed that the engulfment of ER fragments by lysosomes was accelerated by the scalp acupuncture treatment. Moreover, expression of pro-apoptotic protein CHOP, phosphorylated-JNK, cleaved capases-3 and -9 also decreased after the scalp acupuncture. In conclusion, the present study showed that scalp acupuncture of vertex middle line and anterior oblique line of vertex temple may alleviate cerebral ischemic stroke by inhibiting ER stress-accelerated apoptosis.

Microalgae show great potential for nutrient removal from piggery digestate. However, full-strength piggery digestate have been found to severely inhibit microalgal growth. In this study, microalgae were coupled into the electric field (EF)system to form an electric field-microalgae system (EFMS). The effects of EF characteristics and environmental conditions on the growth of Desmodesmus sp. CHX1 and the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus in EFMS were explored. The results indicated that the optimal EF parameters for forming a fine EFMS were electrode of Zn (anode)/graphite (cathode), electric frequency of three times per day (10 min/time) and voltage of 12 V. The suitable light intensity and microalgae inoculation concentration for the EFMS were 180 µmol photons/(m2·s) and 0.2 g/L, respectively. Ammonium nitrogen and total phosphorus removal efficiencies were 65.38% and 96.16% in the piggery digestate by EFMS under optimal conditions. These results indicate that EFMS is a promising technology for nutrient removal from piggery digestate.

There is an increasing interest in non-pharmacological treatments for children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD), especially digital techniques that can be remotely delivered, such as neurofeedback (NFT) and computerized cognitive training (CCT). In this study, a randomized controlled design was used to compare training outcomes between remotely delivered NFT, CCT, and combined NFT/CCT training approaches. A total of 121 children with AD/HD were randomly assigned to the NFT, CCT, or NFT/CCT training groups, with 80 children completing the training program. Pre- and post-training symptoms (primary outcome), executive and daily functions were measured using questionnaires as well as resting EEG during eyes-closed (EC) and eyes-open (EO) conditions. After 3 months of training, the inattentive and hyperactive/impulsive symptoms, inhibition, working memory, learning and life skills of the three groups of children were significantly improved. The objective EEG activity showed a consistent increase in the relative alpha power in the EO condition among the three training groups. Training differences were not observed between groups. There was a positive correlation between pre-training EO relative alpha power and symptom improvement scores of inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity, as well as a negative correlation between pre-training inattention scores and change in EO relative alpha. This study verified the training effects of NFT, CCT, and combined NFT/CCT training in children with AD/HD and revealed an objective therapeutic role for individual relative alpha activity. The verified feasibility and effectiveness of home-based digital training support promotion and application of digital remote training.

Proangiogenic treatment is a potential treatment for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Morroniside was previously discovered to increase post-AMI angiogenesis in rats as well as the proliferation of rat coronary artery endothelial cells (RCAECs). However, the effects of morroniside on other endothelial cell (EC) functions and underlying mechanisms are unknown. To further clarify the vascular biological activity of morroniside, this work focused on investigating how morroniside influenced endothelial cell functions, such as cell viability, tube formation capacity, migration, and adhesion, and to explore the signaling pathway. Oxygen-glucose deprivation causes ischemic damage in RCAECs (OGD). In vitro investigations were carried out to explore the involvement of morroniside in EC function and pathways mediated by ephrinB. The results revealed that the number of BrdU+ cells and cell viability in the high-dose group were considerably greater than in the OGD group (P < 0.05). The ability of tube formation evaluated by total tube length, tube-like structural junction, and tube area was significantly higher in the morroniside group than in the OGD group (P < 0.001). Morroniside considerably improved migration and adhesion abilities compared to OGD group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01, P < 0.001). The protein expression levels of the ephrinB reverse signaling pathway were substantially greater in the morroniside group than in the OGD group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). In conclusion, the current study demonstrated that morroniside modulates endothelial cell function via ephrinB reverse signaling pathways and provided a novel insight and therapeutic strategy into vascular biology.

BACKGROUND: To provide evidence, this review evaluated the methodological quality, risk of bias, and reporting quality of SRs/MAs in the treatment of shoulder-hand syndrome after stroke with acupuncture. METHODS: Systematic reviews and Meta analyses (SRs/MAs) of acupuncture for shoulder and hand syndromes after stroke were retrieved from 6 databases from inception to May 1, 2022. Two reviewers independently screened the literature and extracted the data, then used Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews-2 (AMSTAR-2), Bias Risk in Systematic Review (ROBIS), and Preferred Report Item for Systematic review and Meta-analysis (PRISMA), Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) to assess methodological quality, risk of bias, quality of reporting, and quality of evidence. RESULTS: We included 7 SRs/MAs, of which all SRs/MAs had very low AMSTAR-2 assessment quality and one study had a very low assessment bias risk. According to the PRISMA checklist, Protocol and registration, Synthesis of results, Summary of evidence, Conclusions and Funding were the main reporting limitations. GRADE evaluation showed a total of 37 results, but no high-quality evidence results, 6 results (16.22%) of the evidence quality were moderate, and supported acupuncture combined with exercise rehabilitation and drug therapy was better than exercise joint drug rehabilitation and rehabilitation, we also found that the result of limitations were the main factors that influence the evidence of low quality, followed by imprecision, inconsistency, and publication bias. CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture is a relatively safe and effective adjuvant therapy for shoulder and hand syndromes after stroke. However, because of the low quality of SRs/MAs evidence supporting these findings, high-quality randomized controlled trials should be conducted, and the quality of relevant SRs should be improved to provide evidence for clinical application.

In oral and maxillofacial surgery, flap repair is essential to the quality of postoperative life. Still, thrombosis is fatal for the survival of the flaps. Besides, some postoperative thrombotic diseases, such as pulmonary embolism, also intimidate patients' life. The traditional diagnostic methods are still limited by a large amount of hardware and suffer from inconvenience, delay, and subjectivity. Moreover, the treatments mainly rely upon thrombolytics, such as urokinase (UK) plasminogen activator, which may cause bleeding risk, especially intracerebral hemorrhage. Herein, a kind of poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs) containing a first near-infrared window (NIR-I) phototheranostic agent Y8 and urokinase plasminogen activator (UK) as the core, and modified with the fibrin-targeting peptide Gly-Pro-Arg-Pro-Pro (GPRPP) were developed for the flap and postoperative thromboembolism treatment (named GPRPP-Y8U@P). The conjugated molecule Y8 endows GPRPP-Y8U@P with the capacity of NIR-II imaging and excellent photothermal/photodynamic therapeutic effects. In vivo experiments demonstrated that GPRPP-Y8U@P could quickly locate thrombus by NIR-II fluorescence imaging, and semi-quantitative analysis of the embolized blood vessels' paraffin section verified its thrombolytic efficiency. Additionally, the urokinase trapped in the NPs would not result in nonspecific bleeding, tremendously improving physical security and curative effects with minimizing side effects. Overall, the advantages of GPRPP-Y8U@P, such as precise localization of the thrombus, thrombus ablation in the site, and mild side effects, demonstrated the attractiveness of this approach for effective clinical monitoring of thrombus therapy.

BACKGROUND: Cervical hypertension is a secondary form of hypertension with a high incidence rate. As the main etiology of cervical hypertension is related to cervical spondylosis, commonly used antihypertensive drugs have poor efficacy in the treatment of cervical spondylosis, and improving the symptoms of cervical spondylosis can effectively reduce blood pressure. Massage can effectively improve the symptoms of patients with cervical hypertension, but there has been no systematic review of massage treatment for cervical hypertension. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of massage in patients with cervical hypertension. METHODS: Before February 10, 2022, a systematic literature search was conducted using the following databases: Embase, SinoMed (previously called the Chinese Biomedical Database), China Science and Technology Journal Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang Data. Review Manager software (version 5.3) will be used for statistical analysis. Quality and risk assessments of the included studies were performed, and the outcome indicators of the trials were observed. RESULTS: This meta-analysis further confirmed the beneficial effects of massage in patients with cervical hypertension. CONCLUSION: This study investigated the efficacy and safety of massage therapy in patients with cervical hypertension, providing clinicians and patients with additional options for the treatment of this disease.

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative disease with a high incidence, high disability rate, and poor prognosis. Clinical studies have shown that Bushen Huoxue formula can relieve joint swelling and pain and improve limb function and joint mobility, but there is a lack of high-quality scientific basis. Using network pharmacology and molecular docking technology to study the mechanism of Bushen Huoxue formula in the treatment of osteoarthritis. METHODS: First, the active ingredients and corresponding target predictions of the formula were obtained through the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure. Meanwhile, the osteoarthritis disease targets were obtained through the genome annotation database platform (GeneCards) and the DrugBank database, and the target proteins obtained above were standardized using the Uniprot (https://www.uniprot.org) database standardization of names. Then, the Venn diagram was created by taking the intersection of the active ingredient and the target of the disease, and the "active ingredient-target" network was constructed and analyzed using Cytoscape 3.7.2 software. At the same time, the intersecting targets were imported into the Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interaction Gene/Proteins database to build a protein-protein interaction network and to screen the core targets; the intersecting targets were visualized by using the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery 6.8 database for gene ontology functional analysis and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis, and construct the "active ingredient-target-pathway" network. Finally, the main active ingredients of the formula for tonifying the kidney and invigorating the blood were validated by molecular docking with the core targets. RESULTS: A total of 194 active ingredients and 365 targets of the Bushen Huoxue formula were collected, 776 targets for osteoarthritis diseases and 96 targets for the intersection of active ingredients and diseases. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analysis yielded 104 relevant pathways, including tumor necrosis factor signaling pathways, cancer signaling pathways, nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor signaling pathways, Toll-like receptors signaling pathways, and osteoclast differentiation, apoptosis, T-cell receptor signaling pathway, and other related pathways. The molecular docking results showed good binding of the main active ingredients to the core targets. CONCLUSION: This study shows that the treatment of osteoarthritis involves multicomponent, multitarget, and multipathway processes. The mechanism of anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, inhibition of cartilage matrix degradation, and reduction of subchondral bone destruction may be an important mechanism for the therapeutic effect.

Oxytocin (OT), a nonapeptide, has a variety of functions. Despite extensive studies on OT over past decades, our understanding of its neural functions and their regulation remains incomplete. OT is mainly produced in OT neurons in the supraoptic nucleus (SON), paraventricular nucleus (PVN) and accessory nuclei between the SON and PVN. OT exerts neuromodulatory effects in the brain and spinal cord. While magnocellular OT neurons in the SON and PVN mainly innervate the pituitary and forebrain regions, and parvocellular OT neurons in the PVN innervate brainstem and spinal cord, the two sets of OT neurons have close interactions histologically and functionally. OT expression occurs at early life to promote mental and physical development, while its subsequent decrease in expression in later life stage accompanies aging and diseases. Adaptive changes in this OT system, however, take place under different conditions and upon the maturation of OT release machinery. OT can modulate social recognition and behaviors, learning and memory, emotion, reward, and other higher brain functions. OT also regulates eating and drinking, sleep and wakefulness, nociception and analgesia, sexual behavior, parturition, lactation and other instinctive behaviors. OT regulates the autonomic nervous system, and somatic and specialized senses. Notably, OT can have different modulatory effects on the same function under different conditions. Such divergence may derive from different neural connections, OT receptor gene dimorphism and methylation, and complex interactions with other hormones. In this review, brain functions of OT and their underlying neural mechanisms as well as the perspectives of their clinical usage are presented.

Natural tissues are composed of ordered architectural organizations of multiple tissue cells. The spatial distribution of cells is crucial for directing cellular behavior and maintaining tissue homeostasis and function. Herein, an artificial bone bioceramic scaffold with star-, Tai Chi-, or interlacing-shaped multicellular patterns is constructed. The "cross-talk" between mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and macrophages can be effectively manipulated by altering the spatial distribution of two kinds of cells in the scaffolds, thus achieving controllable modulation of the scaffold-mediated osteo-immune responses. Compared with other multicellular patterns, the Tai Chi pattern with a 2:1 ratio of MSCs to macrophages is more effective in activating anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages, improving MSCs osteogenic differentiation, and accelerating new bone formation in vivo. In brief, the Tai Chi pattern generates a more favorable osteo-immune environment for bone regeneration, exhibiting enhanced immunomodulation and osteogenesis, which may be associated with the activation of BMP-Smad, Oncostatin M (OSM), and Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathways in MSCs mediated by macrophage-derived paracrine signaling mediators. The study suggests that the manipulation of cell distribution to improve tissue formation is a feasible approach that can offer new insights for the design of tissue-engineered bone substitutes with multicellular interactions.

BACKGROUND: The efficacy of alternative therapies and medications for functional constipation (FC) in adults is well established, however, the efficacy and safety of different alternative therapies and medications for FC in adults is not fully clarified. Due to there are many different alternative therapies and medications available for the treatment of febrile FC in adults, the selection of appropriate alternative therapies and medications has become an urgent issue. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of alternative therapy and medicine for FC in adults. METHODS: PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database and Wanfang Data were searched to identify randomized controlled trials which focused on alternative therapy and medicine for FC in adults from December 15, 2020 to July 1, 2021. Subsequently, 2 researchers will be independently responsible for literature screening, data extraction, and assessment of their quality. This study uses The R Programming Language 4.0.2 based on Bayesian framework for NMA. Odds ratios or standardized mean differences will be modeled using Markov chain Monte Carlo methods, both with 95% confidence intervals. RESULTS: The results of this meta-analysis will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. CONCLUSIONS: The conclusion of this systematic review will provide evidence for selecting an optimal alternative therapy and medicine for patients with FC in adults. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The protocol of the systematic review does not require ethical approval because it does not involve humans. OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical effect of cluster acupuncture at scalp points in treating limb spasm after stroke on the basis of conventional exercise therapy. METHODS: A total of 72 patients with limb spasm after stroke were randomly divided into an observation group (36 cases, 5 cases dropped off) and a control group (36 cases, 6 cases dropped off). The control group was treated with exercise therapy. In the observation group, on the basis of the control group, penetrating technique of acupuncture was exerted at Qianding (GV 21) to Baihui (GV 20), Xinhui (GV 22) to Qianding (GV 21), etc. once a day, 5 days a week for 4 weeks. Before and after treatment, the changes of the modified Ashworth scale (MAS), simplified Fugl-Meyer motor assessment (FMA), and modified Barthel index (MBI) scores of the two groups were compared. RESULTS: After treatment, the MAS scores of upper and lower limbs in the two groups were lower than before treatment (P<0.05), and those in the observation group were lower than the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of FMA and BMI in the two groups were higher than before treatment (P<0.05), and the score of MBI in the observation group was higher than the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: On the basis of conventional exercise therapy, cluster acupuncture at scalp points can reduce the spasm, improve motor function and activities of daily living in patients with limb spasm after stroke.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of aromatherapy massage in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. METHODS: To collect relevant literature, we will research following databases: PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database and Wanfang Data the time is from inception to December 30, 2021, and the language is limited to Chinese and English. In addition, we will retrieve other literature resources, including the Chinese Clinical Trial Register, conference papers. Two reviewers will independently complete the literature screen and data extraction, and quality assessment of the included studies will be independently completed by 2 other researchers. The primary outcomes included the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index scale, the visual analog scale, symptom score, Lysholm knee scoring scale, adverse events, and adverse reactions as secondary outcomes would be assessed. RevMan V.5.4.1 software will be used for meta-analysis, and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) will be used to assess the quality of evidence. RESULTS: This systematic review will be showed a high-quality synthesis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of aromatherapy massage in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, providing reference for the safe and effective treatment of knee osteoarthritis.
