BACKGROUND: Well-defined and effective pharmacological interventions for clinical management of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury are currently unavailable. Shexiang Baoxin Pill (SBP), a traditional Chinese medicine Previous research on SBP has been confined to single-target treatments for MI/R injury, lacking a comprehensive examination of various aspects of MI/R injury and a thorough exploration of its underlying mechanisms. PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential of SBP for MI/R injury and its preventive effects on consequent chronic heart failure (CHF). Furthermore, we elucidated the specific mechanisms involved, contributing valuable insights into the potential pharmacological interventions for the clinical treatment of MI/R injury. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive identification of SBP components using high-performance liquid chromatography. Subsequently, we performed a network pharmacology analysis based on the identification results, elucidating the key genes influenced by SBP. Thereafter, through bioinformatics analysis of the key genes and validation through mRNA and protein assays, we ultimately determined the centralized upstream targets. Lastly, we conducted in vitro experiments using myocardial and endothelial cells to elucidate and validate potential underlying mechanisms. RESULTS: SBP can effectively mitigate cell apoptosis, oxidative stress, and inflammation, as well as promote vascular regeneration following MI/R, resulting in improved cardiac function and reduced CHF risk. Mechanistically, SBP treatment upregulates sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1PR1) expression and activates the S1PR1 signaling pathway, thereby regulating the expression of key molecules, including phosphorylated Protein Kinase B (AKT), phosphorylated signal transducer and activator of transcription 3, epidermal growth factor receptor, vascular endothelial growth factor A, tumor necrosis factor-α, and p53. CONCLUSION: This study elucidated the protective role of SBP in MI/R injury and its potential to reduce the risk of CHF. Furthermore, by integrating downstream effector proteins affected by SBP, this research identified the upstream effector protein S1PR1, enhancing our understanding of the pharmacological characteristics and mechanisms of action of SBP. The significance of this study lies in providing compelling evidence for the use of SBP as a traditional Chinese medicine for MI/R injury and consequent CHF prevention.

Phototherapy has garnered increasing attention as it allows for precise treatment of tumor sites with its accurate spatiotemporal control. In this study, we have successfully synthesized degradable bifunctional phototherapy agents (UCNPs@mSiO2@MPN-MC540/DOX) based on upconversion nanoparticle (UCNPs) and metal phenolic network (MPN), serving as a novel nanoplatform for multimodal tumor treatment in the near-infrared (NIR) biological window. To address the issue of low light penetration depth, the UCNPs we synthesized exhibited efficient light conversion ability under 808 nm laser irradiation to activate the photosensitizer Merocyanine 540 (MC540) for photodynamic therapy. Simultaneously, the 808 nm NIR light can also excite the MPN layer to achieve photothermal therapy for tumors. Additionally, the MPN layer possesses the capability of self-degradation under weakly acidic conditions. Within the tumor microenvironment, the MPN layer gradually degrades, facilitating the controlled release of the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin (DOX), thus achieving pH-responsive drug release and reducing the side effects of chemotherapy. This study provides an example of NIR-excited multimodal tumor treatment and pH-responsive drug release, offering a therapy model for precise tumor therapy.

BACKGROUND: Lines of evidence indicated that, immune checkpoints (ICs) inhibitors enhanced T cell immune response to exert anti-tumor effects. However, T cell exhaustion has been so far a major obstacle to antitumor immunotherapy in colorectal cancer patients. Our previous studies showed that ginseng-derived nanoparticles (GDNPs) inhibited the growth of various tumors by reprograming tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and downregulated the ICs expression on T cells in tumor microenvironment (TME), but the underlying effector mechanisms remained unclear. METHODS: The correlation between arginase-1 (ARG1) and T cells was computed based on the colorectal cancer patients in TCGA database. In vitro, we observed that GDNPs reprogrammed TAMs inhibited ARG1 release and ultimately ameliorated T cell exhaustion according to several techniques including WB, PCR, ELISA and flow cytometry. We also used an in vivo MC38 tumor-bearing model and administered GDNPs to assess their anti-tumor effects through multiple indices. The mechanism that GDNPs improved T cell exhaustion was further clarified using the bioinformatics tools and flow cytometry. RESULTS: GDNPs reprogramed TAMs via reducing ARG1 production. Moreover, normalized arginine metabolism ameliorated T cell exhaustion through mTOR-T-bet axis, resulting in reduced ICs expression and enhanced CD8+ T cells expansion. CONCLUSIONS: By regulating the mTOR-T-bet axis, GDNPs reprogramed macrophages to regulate ARG1 release, which further ameliorated T cell exhaustion in TME. These findings provided new insights into comprehending the mechanisms underlying the mitigation of T cell exhaustion, which may facilitate the development of innovative therapeutic strategies in the field of cancer treatment.

When consumed, excess progesterone (P4)─found in food and the environment─can lead to severe illnesses in humans. Therefore, quantitative analysis of P4 is critical for identifying its hazardous levels. In this study, a novel signal "on-amplified-off" P4 detection mode was proposed, which was based on the utilization of hafnium oxide (HfO2) as a unique electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emitter, produced by calcining UiO-66(Hf). This is the first time that HfO2 has been used as an ECL emitter. HfO2 displayed excellent conductivity and a high specific surface area, allowing it to connect with numerous aptamers and produce a "signal-on" effect. Ni-doped ZnO (Ni-ZnO) acted as a coreaction accelerator, enhancing the ECL strength of HfO2 by generating more tripropylamine radicals. cDNA was labeled with Ni-ZnO, and Ni-ZnO was linked to the aptamer via base complementary pairing, affording "signal-amplified". The presence of the target molecule P4 instigated a specific binding process with the aptamer, triggering the shedding of cDNA-Ni-ZnO and resulting in "signal-off". This novel "on-amplified-off" strategy effectively improved the sensitivity and specificity of P4 analysis, introducing a practical method for detecting biomolecules beyond the scope of this study, which holds immense potential for future applications.

A nursing experience using caring theory to care for the grief experienced by a patient with COVID-19 during their period of isolation from June 4 to June 15, 2021 is described in this article. The patient was assessed using physical, psychological, social, and spiritual framework assessments. Data were collected using care, observation, interviews, and medical records. The healthcare problems were identified as inefficient breathing patterns, anxiety, and grief. The patient transmitted COVID-19 to her father, who subsequently died of related respiratory failure. During the nursing process, we used a mobile application (app) to provide the patient with information about novel coronavirus pneumonia to relieve her anxiety. When the patient was physically unwell, we delivered drugs and oxygen, and provided comfortable prone position and breathing training to resolve her low-efficiency breathing patterns. Also, we cooperated with the psychological and spiritual team to resolve the patient's psychological problems, used hand-painted illustrations and words to provide encouragement, and provided information on the hospital's funeral services provider to help complete her father's funeral arrangements to reduce her sense of grief. It is suggested that, in the clinical care of similar patients, nurses should pay more attention to their psychological problems. In addition, nurses may use the concepts of caring theory to integrate a holistic approach, provide patient-specific resources, and accompanying the patient through the process of grief. This nursing experience may be used as a reference in the future care of similar patients to improve the quality of clinical nursing care.

Dissimilatory sulfate reduction (DSR) is the key sulfur cycle that transforms sulfate to sulfide. This process leads to odour issues in wastewater treatment. However, few studies have focused on DSR during treating food processing wastewater with high sulfate. This study investigated DSR microbial population and functional genes in an anaerobic biofilm reactor (ABR) treating tofu processing wastewater. The tofu processing wastewater is a common food processing wastewater in Asia. The full-scale ABR was operated for over 120 days in a tofu and tofu-related products manufacturing factory. Mass balance calculations based on the reactor performance indicated that 79.6-85.1 % of the sulfate was transformed into sulfide irrelevant to dissolved oxygen supplementation. Metagenomic analysis revealed 21 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) containing enzymes encoding DSR. The biofilm contained the complete functional genes of DSR pathway in the full-scale ABR, indicating that biofilm could process DSR independently. Comamonadaceae, Thiobacillus, Nitrosomonadales, Desulfatirhabdium butyrativorans, Desulfomonile tiedjei were the dominant DSR species in the ABR biofilm community. Dissolved oxygen supplementation directly inhibited DSR and mitigated HS- production. It was also found that Thiobacillus contained all the function genes encoding every necessary enzyme in DSR, and thus Thiobacillus distribution directly correlated to DSR and the ABR performance.

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of vitamin D supplementation on physical growth and neurologic development of very preterm infants receiving nesting intervention in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). METHODS: A total of 196 preterm infants had been hospitalized in NICU with the gestational age (GA) between 28 and 32 weeks. Among them, 98 preterm infants received nesting intervention, and the other 98 cases received both nesting and vitamin D supplementation (400 IU). The interventions were continued until 36 weeks postmenstrual age (PMA). The 25(OH)D serum levels, anthropometric parameters, and Premie-Neuro (PN) scores were compared at 36 weeks PMA. RESULTS: Higher median serum level of 25(OH)D was found in the nesting + vitamin D [38.40 ng/mL (IQR: 17.20 ~ 70.88) ng/mL] as compared to the nesting group [15.95 ng/mL (IQR: 10.80 ~ 24.30) ng/mL] at 36 weeks PMA. Besides, infants receiving combined nesting intervention and vitamin D supplementation had less proportion of vitamin D deficiency [VDD, 25(OH)D levels < 20 ng/mL] than those receiving nesting intervention alone. After intervention, the anthropometric parameters of infants, including weight, length, BMI and head circumference were improved in the nesting + vitamin D group as compared to the nesting group at 36 weeks PMA, with higher scores of neurological, movement and responsiveness. CONCLUSIONS: Vitamin D supplementation effectively decreased the prevalence of VDD and led to higher concentrations of 25(OH)D at 36 weeks PMA. This was one more study that supported the necessity of vitamin D supplementation to improve physical growth and neurologic development of preterm-born newborns who received nesting intervention in the NICU.

In this work, a dual-aptamer functionalized magnetic silicon composite was prepared and used to construct a chemiluminescence (CL) sensor for the detection of α-fetoprotein (AFP) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). First, SiO2@Fe3O4 was prepared, and polydiallyl dimethylammonium chloride (PDDA) and AuNPs were sequentially loaded on SiO2@Fe3O4. Subsequently, the complementary strand of CEA aptamer (cDNA2) and the aptamer of AFP (Apt1) were attached to AuNPs/PDDA-SiO2@Fe3O4. Then, the aptamer of CEA (Apt2) and G quadruplex peroxide-mimicking enzyme (G-DNAzyme) were sequentially connected to cDNA2, leading to the final composite. Then, the composite was used to construct a CL sensor. When AFP is present, it will combine with Apt1 on the composite to hinder the catalytic ability of AuNPs to luminol-H2O2, achieving AFP detection. When CEA is present, it will recognize and bind with Apt2, so G-DNAzyme is released to solution and catalyzes the reaction of luminol-H2O2 to achieve CEA determination. After the application of the prepared composite, AFP and CEA were detected in the magnetic medium and supernatant, respectively, after simple magnetic separation. Therefore, the detection of multiple liver cancer markers is realized through the CL technology without additional instruments or technology, which broadens the application range of CL technology. The sensor for detecting AFP and CEA shows wide linear ranges of 1.0 × 10-4 to 1.0 ng·mL-1 and 0.0001-0.5 ng·mL-1 and low detection limits of 6.7 × 10-5 ng·mL-1 and 3.2 × 10-5 ng·mL-1, respectively. Finally, the sensor was successfully used to detect CEA and AFP in serum samples and provides great potential for detection of multiple liver cancer markers in early clinical diagnosis.

Background: In the clinical treatment of large bone defects, distraction osteogenesis can be used. However, some patients may suffer from poor bone regeneration, or even delayed healing or non-union. Problems with the aggregation and proliferation of primary osteoblasts, or problems with the differentiation of primary osteoblasts will lead to poor bone regeneration. Therefore, supplementing exogenous primary osteoblasts and growth factors when using distraction osteogenesis may be a treatment plan with great potential. Methods: Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) were extracted from rats and cultured. Subsequently, Recombinant Rat Platelet-derived Growth Factor BB (rrPDGF-BB) was used to induce bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. At the same time, male adult rats were selected to make the right femoral distraction osteogenesis model. During the mineralization period, phosphate buffer salt solution (control group), non-induction bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (group 1) and recombinant rat platelet-derived growth factor BB intervened bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (group 2) were injected into the distraction areas of each group. Then, the experimental results were evaluated with imaging and histology. Statistical analysis of the data showed that the difference was statistically significant if p < 0.05. Results: After intervention with recombinant rat platelet-derived growth factor BB on bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, the cell morphology changed into a thin strip. After the cells were injected in the mineralization period, the samples showed that the callus in group 2 had greater hardness and the color close to the normal bone tissue; X-ray examination showed that there were more new callus in the distraction space of group 2; Micro-CT examination showed that there were more new bone tissues in group 2; Micro-CT data at week eight showed that the tissue volume, bone volume, percent bone volume, bone trabecular thickness, bone trabecular number and bone mineral density in group 2 were the largest, and the bone trabecular separation in group 2 was the smallest. There was a statistical difference between the groups (p < 0.05); HE staining confirmed that group 2 formed more blood vessels and chondrocytes earlier than the control group. At 8 weeks, the bone marrow cavity of group 2 was obvious, and some of them had been fused. Conclusion: The study confirmed that injecting bone marrow mesenchymal stem cellsBB into the distraction space of rats can promote the formation of new bone in the distraction area and promote the healing of distraction osteogenesis.

Electroacupuncture may play a role in treatment of learning and memory impairment after ischemic stroke by regulating phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) signaling pathway, cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-dependent protein kinase A (PKA)/cAMP response element binding protein (CREB) signaling pathway, nerve growth factor (NGF)/tyrosine kinase-A (TrkA) signaling pathway, Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling pathway, Notch signaling pathway, erythropoietin-producing hepatocyte (Eph)/ephrin signaling pathway. The interactions among these pathways should be further explored in treatment of learning and memory impairment after ischemic stroke.

Objective: To evaluate the value of intensive nursing detail management in intensive care unit (ICU) nursing. Methods: In this prospective study, 100 ICU patients in Shiyan Maternal and Child Health Hospital between January 2019 and March 2020 were assessed for eligibility and recruited. They were concurrently randomly assigned (1 : 1) to receive either conventional nursing (control group) or intensive nursing detail management (study group). The clinical endpoint was the nursing efficiency. Results: Intensive nursing detail management was associated with significantly higher scores in basic nursing, quality of nursing, and quality of management versus conventional nursing (P < 0.05). Intensive nursing detail management resulted in a significantly higher adequate nursing rate (96.00%) versus conventional nursing (74.00%) (P < 0.05). The patients given intensive nursing detail management had a shorter hospital stay versus those receiving conventional nursing (P < 0.05). Intensive nursing detail management was associated with a higher nursing satisfaction rate (74.00%) versus conventional nursing (70.00%) (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Intensive nursing detail management is effective and safe in ICU nursing, so it is worthy of clinical application.

Protein signaling complexes play important roles in prevention of several cancer types and can be used for development of targeted therapy. The roles of signaling complexes of phosphodiesterase 3B (PDE3B) and Rap guanine nucleotide exchange factor 3 (RAPGEF3), which are two important enzymes of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) metabolism, in cancer have not been fully explored. In the current study, a natural product Kaempferol-3-O-(3'',4''-di-E-p-coumaroyl)-α-L-rhamnopyranoside designated as KOLR was extracted from Cinnamomum pauciflorum Nees leaves. KOLR exhibited higher cytotoxic effects against BxCP-3 pancreatic cancer cell line. In BxPC-3 cells, the KOLR could enhance the formation of RAPGEF 3/ PDE3B protein complex to inhibit the activation of Rap-1 and PI3K-AKT pathway, thereby promoting cell apoptosis and inhibiting cell metastasis. Mutation of RAPGEF3 G557A or low expression of PDE3B inactivated the binding action of KOLR resulting in KOLR resistance. The findings of this study show that PDE3B/RAPGEF3 complex is a potential therapeutic cancer target.

BACKGROUND: Cinnamomum longepaniculatum (Gamble) N. Chao ex H. W. Li, whose leaves produce essential oils, is a traditional Chinese medicine and economically important tree species. In our study, two C. longepaniculatum varieties that have significantly different essential oil contents and leaf phenotypes were selected as the materials to investigate secondary metabolism. RESULT: The essential oil content and leaf phenotypes were different between the two varieties. When the results of both transcriptome and metabolomic analyses were combined, it was found that the differences were related to phenylalanine metabolic pathways, particularly the metabolism of flavonoids and terpenoids. The transcriptome results based on KEGG pathway enrichment analysis showed that pathways involving phenylpropanoids, tryptophan biosynthesis and terpenoids significantly differed between the two varieties; 11 DEGs (2 upregulated and 9 downregulated) were associated with the biosynthesis of other secondary metabolites, and 12 DEGs (2 upregulated and 10 downregulated) were related to the metabolism of terpenoids and polyketides. Through further analysis of the leaves, we detected 196 metabolites in C. longepaniculatum. The abundance of 49 (26 downregulated and 23 upregulated) metabolites differed between the two varieties, which is likely related to the differences in the accumulation of these metabolites. We identified 12 flavonoids, 8 terpenoids and 8 alkaloids and identified 4 kinds of PMFs from the leaves of C. longepaniculatum. CONCLUSIONS: The combined results of transcriptome and metabolomic analyses revealed a strong correlation between metabolite contents and gene expression. We speculate that light leads to differences in the secondary metabolism and phenotypes of leaves of different varieties of C. longepaniculatum. This research provides data for secondary metabolite studies and lays a solid foundation for breeding ideal C. longepaniculatum plants.

BACKGROUND: Evidence concerning the effect of Tai Chi Yunshou motor imagery training (TCY-MIT) on upper extremity motor function (UE-MF) recovery in poststroke patients is lacking, and few studies have examined the neural mechanisms of MIT. The study was designed to assess the effectiveness of TCY-MIT and its possible neural mechanisms. METHODS/DESIGN: The study is an assessor-blinded, parallel, superiority, randomized clinical trial. A total of 78 eligible participants will be randomly assigned to 2 groups in a 1:1 ratio. Participants in the control group will receive (conventional rehabilitation therapies) CRTs for 40 min per day, 6 days per week, for 3 weeks. Participants in the intervention group will receive CRTs combined with TCY-MIT (30 min per day, 6 days per week, for 3 weeks). The primary outcome measure is the Fugl-Meyer Assessment of Upper Extremity. Secondary outcome measures are the Box and Block Test, muscle strength test, modified Barthel index, and Pearson correlation coefficients. All outcomes will be assessed at baseline, after completion of the intervention (1, 2, and 3 weeks), and at the end of follow-up (2 months). The outcome assessor will be blinded to the group allocation of the participants. DISCUSSION: We expect this assessor-blinded, parallel, superiority, randomized clinical trial to explore the effectiveness of TCY-MIT combined with CRTs compared with CRTs alone for UE-MF in poststroke patients. RESUMEN

Cold tumor microenvironment (TME) marked with low effector T cell infiltration leads to weak response to immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment. Thus, switching cold to hot TME is critical to improve potent ICI therapy. Previously, we reported extracellular vesicle (EV)-like ginseng-derived nanoparticles (GDNPs) that were isolated from Panax ginseng C.A. Mey and can alter M2 polarization to delay the hot tumor B16F10 progression. However, the cold tumor is more common and challenging in the real world. Here, we explored a combinatorial strategy with both GDNPs and PD-1 (programmed cell death protein-1) monoclonal antibody (mAb), which exhibited the ability to alter cold TME and subsequently induce a durable systemic anti-tumor immunity in multiple murine tumor models. GDNPs enhanced PD-1 mAb anti-tumor efficacy in activating tumor-infiltrated T lymphocytes. Our results demonstrated that GDNPs could reprogram tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) to increase CCL5 and CXCL9 secretion for recruiting CD8+ T cells into the tumor bed, which have the synergism to PD-1 mAb therapy with no detected systemic toxicity. In situ activation of TAMs by GDNPs may broadly serve as a facile platform to modulate the suppressive cold TME and optimize the PD-1 mAb immunotherapy in future clinical application.

OBJECTIVE@#To compare the clinical effect of wheat grain moxibustion combined with rehabilitation training and simple rehabilitation training on finger spasm after stroke.@*METHODS@#A total of 80 patients with finger spasm after stroke were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 40 cases in each group. The control group was given routine rehabilitation training, once a day, 30 min each time. The observation group was given wheat grain moxibustion at Shixuan (EX-UE 11) on the basis of the control group, 8~10 moxibustion cones at each point, once a day. Both groups were treated for 6 days as one course of treatment for 4 courses. The motor function of the affected hand (Fugl-Meyer assessment [FMA] score) and muscle tension (modified Ashworth scale [MAS] grading), surface EMG indexes (wrist dorsiflexor muscle and flexor carpal metacarpal muscle mean square [RMS] value), hand muscle strength (neurological deficit score [NDS]) and daily living ability (modified Barthel index [MBI] score) were compared between the two groups before and after treatment, and clinical efficacy was evaluated.@*RESULTS@#After treatment, FMA and MBI scores in the 2 groups were increased compared with before treatment (P<0.05), and those in the observation group were higher than the control group (P<0.05). The RMS value of wrist dorsiflexor muscle and flexor carpal metacarpal muscle in relaxation and passive function testsand and NDS in the 2 groups were lower than those before treatment (P<0.05), and those in the observation group were lower than the control group (P<0.05). MAS grading in the 2 groups was improved compared with before treatment (P<0.05), and that in the observation group was better than the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate of the observation group was 92.5% (37/40), which was higher than that of the control group (80.0%, 32/40, P<0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#Wheat grain moxibustion at Shixuan (EX-UE 11) combined with rehabilitation training can improve the hand motor function and daily living ability of patients with finger spasm after stroke, improve the degree of spasm and the function of wrist dorsiflexor muscle and flexor carpal metacarpal muscle, the clinical effect is better than simple rehabilitation training.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies assessing the impact of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 PUFA) have shown conflicting results in regard to the cardiovascular mortality. It is likely that higher dose of ω-3 PUFA would have a greater effect on the major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). Therefore, we performed a dose-response meta-analysis to explore the potential protective effect of ω-3 PUFA, with the increase of daily intake and extension of the intervention period, on patients with cardiovascular disease risks. Outcomes included major adverse cardiovascular events, cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. METHODS: A systematic literature search of PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Library from inception to September 31, 2019 was conducted to identify the randomized controlled trails (RCTs) of ω-3 PUFA supplementation, which reported cardiovascular events or deaths and recruited no less than 500 participants. We evaluated the effect of ω-3 PUFA through the pooled relative risks (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI), and further carried out subgroup analysis and dose-response meta-analysis. RESULTS: Fourteen trials including 87718 individuals were reviewed. By conventional statistical significance, there was no apparent difference between the two groups on major adverse cardiovascular effects (RR 0.94, 95% CI 0.84-1.04) and all-cause mortality (RR 0.96, 95% CI 0.91-1.00), but there was an effect on the cardiovascular mortality (RR 0.93, 95% CI 0.88-0.99). However, with the dose increased and intervention period prolonged (daily dose × intervention period > 8 grams/day × years), subgroup analyses showed a more obvious reduction of MACEs (RR 0.79, 95% CI 0.65-0.95) and all-cause mortality (RR 0.93, 95% CI 0.85-1.03). Furthermore, the dose-response meta-analysis presented a 13.05% reduction of MACEs and 8.99% reduction of all-cause mortality with 10 grams/day × years increments. CONCLUSIONS: Updated with the newly published RCTs, this meta-analysis indicated that large dose and long period of interventions with ω-3 PUFA supplementation produce a close association with MACEs and cardiovascular or all-cause mortality. A dose-response beneficial effect was preliminarily established.

To analyze the domestic clinical application of vascular dementia scales, and provide the basis for the refinement of clinical scales. VIP, SinoMed, Wanfang and CNKI databases were searched by computer to analyze the clinical application of vascular dementia scales published in Chinese Core Periodicals in Library of Peking University, CSSCI and CSCD, with time limit from database establishment to August 31, 2020. According to the inclusion or exclusion criteria, the combination of Note Express software and manual search was used to complete the literature duplicate detection and screening. According to the research needs, the relevant data were extracted and a new database was established. In this study, a total of 4 246 related literatures were initially searched, 2 048 repetitive literatures were eliminated, 1 484 literatures were manually screened out, and finally 714 literatures and 44 scales were included. The total using frequency of scales was 2 660. The results of descriptive analysis showed that there were many kinds of clinical scales for vascular dementia. In order to avoid the repeated use of scales with similar functions, it is correct to include the possible influences such as the purpose of use, way, frequency and function of the scales into reference factors of scale selection according to the disease diagnostic criteria. It is necessary to develop the scales with traditional Chinese medicine characteristic for objective clinical evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine.

@#Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is a common chronic complication of diabetes mellitus, which cause irreversible damage of microvessels in the retina. DR is a leading blindness eye disease among diabetes mellitus. The pathogenesis of DR is mainly related to oxidative stress, inflammation and neovascularization. DR patients are treated with laser photocoagulation, vitrectomy and medicine in clinical trials. The traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese herb monomers have unique efficacy in the treatment of DR, especially in retinal protection, which provides valuable supplement. The paper summarized application practice and mechanism of representative Chinese herbal formulas and Chinese herb monomers in the treatment of DR, which would provide references for the clinical treatment and new drug development of DR.

@#Glaucoma is an eye disease characterized by progressiveretinal nerve damage and impaired vision, which is the top one irreversible blinding eye disease. The pathologic intraocular pressure elevation is its key risk. At present, the clinical medicine with intraocular pressure reducing and retinal nerve protection effects focused on symptomatic therapy with unsatisfied effects. Chinese herb monomers have advantages of both Chinese herbs and chemical drugs. Chinese herbs and Chinese herb monomers have favorable effects on glaucoma therapy, especially on retinal nerve protection, which provides a vast room for new drug development. The paper summarized applications and mechanism of representative anti-glaucoma Chinese herbal formulas, Chinese herbs and especially Chinese herb monomers, which would provide references for clinical therapy and new drug development for glaucoma.
