BACKGROUND: In recent years, sleep problems have emerged as a significant factor in the development of diseases that influence cognitive function. The inflammatory response may have a role in the neurobiological processes of sleep deprivation, resulting in impairment of memory and learning. Shenghui Decoction (SHD) is a classic formula in Chinese medicine used to treat forgetfulness and insomnia. However, it remains unclear whether the anti-inflammatory effects of SHD are specifically linked to the inhibition of P2X7R and p38MAPK. METHODS: Analysis of chemical constituents of Shenghui Decoction based on UPLC-Q-TOF-MS / MS. The learning and memory competency of the mice was assessed using the new object recognition and Morris water maze tests. The morphology of hippocampus neurons was observed using HE staining, and the expression of inflammatory factors was measured using ELISA and immunofluorescence. The expression of P2X7R and p38MAPK in the hippocampus was analyzed via real-time PCR and Western blotting. Additionally, the components absorbed into the bloodstream of SHD were analyzed. RESULTS: The study found that SHD contains 47 chemical constituents, including phenolic acids, flavonoids, iridoids, and triterpenoids. In addition, it was observed that SHD significantly improved the learning and memory abilities of the mice. SHD also improved the morphology of hippocampus neurons. The expression of inflammatory factors was decreased in the SHD-treated mice. Additionally, the expression of P2X7R and p38MAPK was decreased in the hippocampus of the SHD-treated mice. Fifteen prototype chemical constituents were detected in blood. CONCLUSIONS: The study suggests that SHD could be a viable treatment for cognitive impairments associated with brain inflammation. The therapeutic effects of SHD are likely due to its chemical components, including phenolic acids, flavonoids, iridoids, and triterpenoids. SHD can improve learning and memory impairment caused by sleep deprivation through the P2X7R/p38MAPK inflammatory signaling pathways.

Hemiphragma heterophyllum Wall. is commonly used in traditional Yi herbal medicine for treating bellyache and toothache. In the current study, an unreported monoterpene glucoside, (S)-thymoquinol O-(6-O-oleuropeoyl)-ß-d-glucopyranoside (1), together with 11 known glucosides were obtained from the whole herb of H. heterophyllum. Their structures were determined based on a detailed analysis of spectroscopic data and acid hydrolysis and methanolysis reactions. Bioassay results showed that compounds 1 and 10 at 40 mg/kg exhibited significant antinociceptive activity in the acetic acid-induced writhing model, with inhibitions of 59.80% and 64.07%, respectively. Moreover, five of the isolates showed moderate anti-α-glucosidase activities with IC50 values ranging from 5.67 to 46.16 µM.

This study aimed to investigate the chemical constituents in the water extract of the whole herb of Hedyotis scandens by silica gel, ODS, and MCI column chromatographies together with preparative high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). The structures of isolated constituents were identified by NMR, HR-ESI-MS, etc. Thirteen compounds were isolated and identified as methyl 4-benzoyloxy-3-methoxybenzeneacetate(1), 4-benzoyloxy-3-methoxybenzeneacetic acid(2), 3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-propanoic acid(3), salicylic acid(4), 3-hydroxy-4-methoxypyridine(5), syringic acid(6), hydroxycinnamic acid(7),(R)-6-methyl-4,6-bis(4-methylpent-3-enyl)cyclohexa-1,3-dienecarbaldehyde(8), 1,2-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-propanediol(9), 1H-indole-3-carboxaldehyde(10), isoscopoletin(11), syringaresinol(12), and pinoresinol(13). Among them, compounds 1 and 2 were new phenolic acid compounds, compounds 3-5, 8-11, and 13 were isolated from this genus for the first time, and compounds 6, 7, and 12 were obtained from H. scandens for the first time. The activity test showed that compounds 1 and 10 had a certain inhibitory effect on Mycobacterium smegmatis, with MIC_(50) values of 58.5 and 33.3 µg·mL~(-1), respectively.

During the 2022 Annual National Terahertz Biophysics Conference, the hypothesis was proposed that bio frequency electromagnetic fields sensitive points, akin to acupuncture points, exist in the human body. This development has prompted numerous researchers to apply terahertz technology to the field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). In recent years, terahertz technology has achieved notable progress in the field of TCM, particularly concerning the meridian-collateral system. This review systematically presents the advancements in terahertz technology and its implications on TCM theory from a biophysical perspective. Additionally, it summarizes the utilization of terahertz waves in elucidating aspects of TCM, particularly focusing on the scientific connotation of Qi, the theoretical foundation of the meridian-collateral system, and moxibustion in diagnosing and treating diseases. We aimed to explore the innovative applications and distinct advantages of terahertz technology in TCM and its feasibility as a pioneering technological tool for the modernization of TCM.

The menopausal transition is often accompanied with distressing manifestations, such as vasomotor symptoms, sleep disruptions, and depressive syndrome. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) have emerged as a potential intervention to alleviate these symptoms. This review aimed to comprehensively assess the impact of n-3 PUFAs supplementation on vasomotor symptoms, sleep quality, and depression among postmenopausal women. We conducted a systematic literature search of randomized controlled trials across the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, and SCOPUS databases from inception to August 2023. Among the initial pool of 163 identified studies, nine studies met the inclusion criteria and were incorporated into this systematic review. Notably, four studies detected potential benefits of n-3 PUFAs in improving hot flashes and night sweats. On the contrary, sleep quality outcomes displayed heterogeneity across the studies. Incorporating diverse scales, such as the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale-21, the Patient Health Questionnaire depression scale, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 for depression outcomes, we found inconclusive evidence of n-3 PUFA's impact on depression. Overall, the combined analysis of these studies did not provide substantial evidence to support the efficacy of n-3 PUFAs in improving vasomotor symptoms, sleep quality, and depression. Further well-designed randomized clinical trials with larger participant groups are crucial to validate and generalize these results. Review Registration: PROSPERO registration no: CRD42023421922.

The incidence rate of colorectal cancer (CRC) has been increasing and poses severe threats to human health worldwide and developing effective treatment strategies remains an urgent task. In this study, Chaetoglobosin A (ChA), an endophytic fungal metabolite from the medicinal herb-derived fungus Chaetomium globosum Km1126, was identified as a potent and selective antitumor agent in human CRC. ChA induced growth inhibition of CRC cells in a concentration-dependent manner but did not impair the viability of normal colon cells. ChA triggered mitochondrial intrinsic and caspase-dependent apoptotic cell death. In addition, apoptosis antibody array analysis revealed that expression of Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) was significantly increased by ChA. Inhibition of HO-1 increased the sensitivity of CRC cells to ChA, suggesting HO-1 may play a protective role in ChA-mediated cell death. ChA induced cell apoptosis via the induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and ROS scavenger (NAC) prevented ChA-induced cell death, mitochondrial dysfunction, and HO-1 activation. ChA promoted the activation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), and co-administration of JNK inhibitor or siRNA markedly reversed ChA-mediated apoptosis. ChA significantly decreased the tumor growth without eliciting any organ toxicity or affecting the body weight of the CRC xenograft mice. This is the first study to demonstrate that ChA exhibits promising anti-cancer properties against human CRC both in vitro and in vivo. ChA is a potential therapeutic agent worthy of further development in clinical trials for cancer treatment.

Maresins are lipid mediators derived from omega-3 fatty acids with anti-inflammatory and pro-resolving properties, capable of promoting tissue regeneration and potentially serving as a therapeutic agent for chronic inflammatory diseases. The aim of this review was to systematically investigate preclinical and clinical studies on maresin to inform translational research. Two independent reviewers performed comprehensive searches with the term "Maresin (NOT) Review" on PubMed. A total of 137 studies were included and categorized into 11 human organ systems. Data pertinent to clinical translation were specifically extracted, including delivery methods, optimal dose response, and specific functional efficacy. Maresins generally exhibit efficacy in treating inflammatory diseases, attenuating inflammation, protecting organs, and promoting tissue regeneration, mostly in rodent preclinical models. The nervous system has the highest number of original studies (n = 25), followed by the cardiovascular system, digestive system, and respiratory system, each having the second highest number of studies (n = 18) in the field. Most studies considered systemic delivery with an optimal dose response for mouse animal models ranging from 4 to 25 µg/kg or 2 to 200 ng via intraperitoneal or intravenous injection respectively, whereas human in vitro studies ranged between 1 and 10 nM. Although there has been no human interventional clinical trial yet, the levels of MaR1 in human tissue fluid can potentially serve as biomarkers, including salivary samples for predicting the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases and periodontal diseases; plasma and synovial fluid levels of MaR1 can be associated with treatment response and defining pathotypes of rheumatoid arthritis. Maresins exhibit great potency in resolving disease inflammation and bridging tissue regeneration in preclinical models, and future translational development is warranted.

Background: Retention in treatment for individuals with comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorders (SUD) is an area of concern in treatment outcome studies. The current study explores key variables related to retention in a group of women with comorbid PTSD and SUD enrolled in community SUD treatment randomized to eight weekly sessions of a trauma adapted mindfulness-based relapse prevention (TA-MBRP) or an integrated coping skills (ICS) group intervention. Methods: Two unadjusted and adjusted logistic discrete failure time (DFT) models were fit to examine associations between participants and the time (in weeks) to treatment completion status. Key covariates of interest, including time-varying PTSD Symptom Scale-Self Report (PSS) total score, time-varying Five Factors Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) total score, group assignment, baseline endorsements of substance use and demographics such as age, race and employment status were fit into the model. Results: In the adjusted PSS model, increased levels of PTSD symptom severity (PSS) scores at week 5 and 7 (PSS OR: 1:06: OR 1.13, respectively) were associated with higher odds of non-completion. In the FFMQ model, increased levels of FFMQ scores at week 6 (OR: 0:92) were associated with lower odds of non-completion. In both models, assignment to the ICS control group and unemployment were associated with lower odds of completion and baseline use of cocaine and sedatives were associated with higher odds of completion. Conclusion: Monitoring PTSD symptom severity and measures of mindfulness can inform providers on strategies to enhance retention early in treatment for individuals with comorbid PTSD/SUD.ClinicalTrials.gov # NCT02755103.

Context: Narrowband ultraviolet B (NBUVB) phototherapy is the standard treatment for chronic stable vitiligo, but its efficacy, when used alone, is often unsatisfactory. Objective: The study evaluated the efficacy of surrounding needling with acupuncture needles in combination with NBUVB phototherapy for lesions on different body parts of patients with chronic stable vitiligo. Design: The research team designed a 12-week, randomized, open-label, prospective, intra-individual, comparative clinical trial. Setting: The study took place in the Department of Dermatology at Shin-Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. Participants: Participants were patients at the hospital, aged 20-80 years, with chronic stable nonsegmental vitiligo. The lesions on both sides of their bodies had the same baseline conditions. Nine patients with 14 pairs of lesions (n = 28) were included in the study, and eight participants with 13 pairs of lesions (n = 26) successfully completed the study. Intervention: Vitiligo lesions in the intervention group were treated with surrounding needling combined with NBUVB phototherapy, whereas the control group received NBUVB phototherapy only. Outcome Measures: The primary outcome was evaluated at Week 12 using the modified Vitiligo Area Scoring Index (VASI), which focuses on local depigmentation only without multiplication by body surface area, and the testing used the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. A higher VASI score indicates more severe vitiligo. Pain was rated postintervention, after completion of all treatments. Results: At baseline, the modified VASI score in both groups was 93.07 ± 4.62. Postintervention, this score in the intervention group improved to 78.46 ± 15.24, with a significant difference between baseline and postintervention (P = .007), and in the control group, the score improved to 91.92 ± 6.67, with no significant difference having occurred (P = .317). A statistically significant difference was found between the intervention group and the control group in the change in scores postintervention (P = .007). Conclusion: Surrounding needling in combination with NBUVB phototherapy may be a promising treatment for chronic stable nonsegmental vitiligo. Future studies with larger sample sizes and long-term follow-up are warranted.

Epimedii Folium is a well-known Chinese herbal medicine with the effect of nourishing kidney and strengthening Yang. Its main active ingredients are flavonoids. In this study, 60 samples of Epimedium sagittatum were collected for the determination of total flavonoids(TF) including the total amount of epimedin A, epimedin B, epimedin C, and icariin(abbreviated as ABCI) specified in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia as well as rhamnosylicariside Ⅱ and icariside Ⅱ. The calibration parameters of "first derivativemultiva-riate scattering correction in 1 900-650 cm~(-1) band(4-point smoothing)" and "first derivativestandard normal variable correction in 4 000-650 cm~(-1) full band(4-point smoothing)" were confirmed respectively. The quantitative model was established via Fourier infrared spectroscopy plus attenuated total reflection(FTIR-ATR) accessory combined with partial least squares(PLS) method and then used to predict the flavonoid content of 11 validation sets. The average prediction accuracy for ABCI in calibration set and validation set was 98.985% and 96.087%, respectively. The average prediction accuracy for TF in calibration set and validation set was 98.998% and 94.771%, respectively. These results indicated that FTIR-ATR combined with PLS model could be used for rapid prediction of flavonoid content in E. sagittatum, with the prediction accuracy above 94.7%. The establishment of this method provides a new solution for the detection of a large number of E. sagittatum samples.

BACKGROUND: Wound pain after surgery for lumbar spine disease may interfere with patients' recovery. Acupuncture is commonly used for pain management, but its efficacy for postoperative pain control is unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture for adjuvant pain control after surgery for degenerative lumbar spine disease. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the records of consecutive patients who received surgery for degenerative lumbar spine disease at our institution from 2013 to 2014. Surgical procedures included open laminectomy, discectomy, and trans-pedicle screw instrumentation with posterior-lateral fusion. Patients were grouped by pain control methods, including routine analgesia, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), and acupuncture. The routine analgesia group received oral acetaminophen/non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs with meperidine as needed for immediate pain control. The PCA group received a basal dose of morphine and subsequent user-demand doses. The acupuncture group received acupuncture every other day after surgery. RESULTS: Ninety-six patients were included, of whom 37 received acupuncture, 27 received PCA, and 32 received routine analgesics for pain control. Visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores in all 3 groups decreased significantly, and to the same degree, from the first postoperative day to the second day. No significant differences were found in VAS scores over the next 6 postoperative days; however, the scores of patients treated with PCA were slightly but still significantly higher (p = 0.026) on postoperative day 4 than scores of patients treated with acupuncture and traditional analgesia, a difference likely due to PCA being discontinued on postoperative day 3. No major complications were noted in the acupuncture group, but 2 patients dropped out because of fear of needle insertion. CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture may be as effective as traditional analgesia and PCA for adjuvant pain control after surgery for degenerative lumbar spine disease.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Suanzaoren Decoction (SZRD) is a traditional and classic prescription for the treatment of insomnia, with a history of more than 1,000 years. It replenishes blood components, calms the nerves, reduces fever and irritability. It is commonly used in the clinical treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome, cardiac neurosis, and menopausal syndromes. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that it improves cognitive impairment; however, its mechanism of action remains unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study preliminarily investigated the potential bioactive components and mechanism of SZRD in improving cognitive impairment by exploring network pharmacology, molecular docking, and conducting in vivo experiments. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The components of various Chinese herbs in SZRD and their disease-related targets were identified through network pharmacology and literature. Gene ontology (GO) function enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analyses of intersection targets were performed using the relevant database. Next, the "Components-Targets-Pathways" (C-T-P) and "Protein-Protein interaction" networks were constructed using the enrichment analysis results to further identify potential pathways, bioactive components, and hub genes. At the same time, molecular docking was used to further distinguish the key bioactive components and genes of SZRD responsible for improving cognitive impairment. Finally, the potential mechanism of action was further analysed and verified using in vivo experiments. RESULTS: A total of 117 potential active components and 138 intersection targets were identified by network pharmacology screening. The key bioactive components, including calycosin, 5-Prenylbutein, licochalcone G, glypallichalcone, and ZINC189892, were identified by analysing the networks and molecular docking results. Hub genes included ACHE, CYP19A1, EGFR, ESR1, and ESR2. The oestrogen signalling pathway was the most important in the enrichment analysis. In vivo experiments further proved that SZRD could improve cognitive impairment by affecting the oestrogen signalling pathway and the expression of ACHE and CYP19A1. CONCLUSIONS: Network pharmacology and in vivo experiments demonstrate that SZRD improves cognitive impairment caused by sleep disturbance through estrogen receptor pathway, which provides a basis for its clinical application.

BACKGROUND: Although the powerful clinical effects of radiofrequency and microwave ablation have been established, such ablation is associated with several limitations, including a small ablation size, a long ablation time, the few treatment positioning, and biosafety risks. To overcome these limitations, biosafe and efficient magnetic ablation was achieved in this study by using biocompatible liquid gallium as an ablation medium and a contrast medium for imaging. RESULTS: Magnetic fields with a frequency (f) lower than 200 kHz and an amplitude (H) × f value lower than 5.0 × 109 Am-1 s-1 were generated using the proposed method. These fields could generate an ablation size of 3 cm in rat liver lobes under a temperature of approximately 300 °C and a time of 20 s. The results of this study indicate that biomedical gallium can be used as a contrast medium for the positioning of gallium injections and the evaluation of ablated tissue around a target site. Liquid gallium can be used as an ablation medium and imaging contrast medium because of its stable retention in normal tissue for at least 3 days. Besides, the high anticancer potential of gallium ions was inferred from the self-degradation of 100 µL of liquid gallium after around 21 days of immersion in acidic solutions. CONCLUSIONS: The rapid wireless ablation of large or multiple lesions was achieved through the simple multi-injection of liquid gallium. This approach can replace the currently favoured procedure involving the use of multiple ablation probes, which is associated with limited benefits and several side effects. METHODS: Magnetic ablation was confirmed to be highly efficient by the consistent results obtained in the simulation and in vitro tests of gallium and iron oxide as well as the electromagnetic specifics and thermotherapy performance comparison detailed in this study Ultrasound imaging, X-ray imaging, and magnetic resonance imaging were found to be compatible with the proposed magnetic ablation method. Self-degradation analysis was conducted by mixing liquid gallium in acidic solutions with a pH of approximately 5-7 (to imitate a tumour-containing microenvironment). X-ray diffraction was used to identify the gallium oxides produced by degraded gallium ions.

RESUMEN

A new polyketide, coptaspin A(1), along with two known compounds 4-acetyl-3,4-dihydro-6,8-dihydroxy-3-methoxy-5-methylisocoumarin(2), and cytochalasin Z_(12)(3), was isolated from the endophytic fungi Aspergillus sp. ZJ-58, which was isolated from the genuine medicinal plant Coptis chinensis in Chongqing after solid-state fermentation on rice and silica gel, MCI, and HPLC-based separation. Their structures were elucidated by MS, NMR, IR, UV, and ECD. The newly isolated compound 1 showed moderate inhibitory activities against LPS-induced NO production in RAW264.7 macrophages with the IC_(50) value of 58.7 µmol·L~(-1), suggesting its potential anti-inflammatory activity.

The present study compared the appearance and chemical composition of fruits of Perilla frutescens var. arguta(PFA) and P. frutescens var. frutescens(PFF). VHX-6000 3 D depth of field synthesis technology was applied for the appearance observation. The metabolites were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by pre-column derivatization combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS). Finally, cluster analysis(CA), principal component analysis(PCA), and orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA) were applied for exploring the differences in their chemical compositions. The results indicated that the size and color of PFA and PFF fruits were different. PFF fruits were significantly larger than PFA fruits. The surface color of PFA fruits was brown, while PFF fruits were in multiple colors, such as white, grayish-white, and brown. Amino acids, saccharides, organic acids, fatty acids, and phenolic acids were identified in PFA and PFF fruits. The results of CA, PCA, and OPLS-DA indicated significant differences in the content of components between PFA and PFF fruits. Three metabolites, including D-glucose, rosmarinic acid, and D-fructose, which were significantly higher in PFA fruits than in PFF fruits, were screened out as differential metabolites. Considering the regulation on the content of rosmarinic acid in Perillae Fructus in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia(2020 edition), the medicinal value of PFA fruits is higher than that of PFF. In conclusion, there are differences in appearance and chemical composition between PFA fruits and PFF fruits. These results are expected to provide fundamental data for specifying plant source and quality control of Perillae Fructus.

Dietary supplements and medications containing polyvalent cations can interact with integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) and decrease exposure to INSTIs. In this cross-sectional study of 513 people with HIV (PWH) who were on stable antiretroviral therapy, 57.5% and 6.6% reported concurrent use of dietary supplements and antacids, respectively. In the multivariable analysis, the use of antacids, but not dietary supplements containing polyvalent cations, was associated with HIV viremia in PWH who received INSTI-based ART.

A method was established for content determination of two kinds of phenolic acids, including rosmarinic acid)(RA) and caffeic acid(CA), and six kinds of flavonoids including scutellarein-7-O-diglucuronide(SDG), luteolin-7-O-diglucuronide(LDG), apigenin-7-O-diglucuronide(ADG), scutellarin-7-O-glucuronide(SG), luteolin-7-O-glucuronide(LG), and apigenin-7-O-glucuronide(AG) in Perilla frutescens leaves. The content of eight chemical components was measured based on ten P. frutescens germplasms of different chemotypes of volatile oil, different cultivated years, and different harvesting periods. The results showed that there was a great difference between the two kinds of constituents of different germplasms. The total content of the two phenolic acids was 2.24-34.44 mg·g~(-1), and the total content of the six flavonoids was 11.55-34.71 mg·g~(-1). Then according to content from most to least, the order of each component was RA(2.13-33.97 mg·g~(-1)), LDG(1.31-14.80 mg·g~(-1)), SG(1.97-8.45 mg·g~(-1)), ADG(2.68-7.60 mg·g~(-1)), SDG(1.16-5.87 mg·g~(-1)), LG(0.78-1.91 mg·g~(-1)), AG(0.56-1.00 mg·g~(-1)), and CA(0.11-0.68 mg·g~(-1)). The chemical contents of the 5 PA-type germplasms in 2017 were mostly higher than those in 2018 showing a large variation with the cultivation years. These contents of two kinds of phenolic acids of 9 germplasms fluctuated with the harvesting time. The content decreased before early flower spike(the 3~(rd) to 18~(th) in August) at first and began to increase in flowering and fruiting period(the 18~(th) in August to 2~(nd) in September). However, these contents had slowly decreasing trend after 2~(nd) in September till 17~(th) in the same month. Interestingly, the content raised again in the maturity of fruits. The variation tendency of contents in six kinds of flavonoids components was inconsistent in different germplasms with the variation of harvesting time. The content of flavonoids in part of germplasms was negatively correlated with the fluctuation of phenolic acids. There was no correlation between phenolic acids and chemical type of the volatile oil. This paper may provide a reference for the high-quality germplasm of P. frutescens cultivation.

OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to evaluate the effect in pregnant women of a non-supervised aerobic exercise intervention on sleep quality and maternal-fetal attachment. DESIGN: Pretest-posttest randomized controlled trial. SETTING: Prenatal clinic of a medical center in southern Taiwan. PARTICIPANTS: One hundred and forty eligible, pregnant women were assigned systematically, at a random starting point, to either the experimental group (n = 70) or the control group (n = 70). INTERVENTION: Participants in the experimental group received a 20-minute, low-impact aerobic exercise video on DVD and were instructed to exercise at home at least three times per week for a period of three months. Participants in the control group received routine prenatal care only. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Modified Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale were used to assess outcome measures before the intervention and at four and 12-weeks post-intervention. RESULTS: The paired-sample t-tests revealed a significant improvement in sleep quality in the experimental group at 4-weeks posttest, which persisted through 12-weeks posttest. In addition, the experimental group reported a significantly higher mean score for maternal-fetal attachment at 4-weeks posttest than the control group. CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicate that performing aerobic exercise ameliorates the decline in sleep quality and improves maternal-fetal attachment in women who are pregnant. These findings may be used to encourage pregnant women to regularly perform low-impact aerobic exercise.

Objective:To observe the effect of electroacupuncture based on transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) on wakefulness for consciousness disorder. Methods:From January, 2015 to October, 2019, 30 inpatients with consciousness disorder from the General Hospital of Western Theater Command were randomly divided into control group (n = 15) and observetion group (n = 15), Both groups received TMS, and the observetion group received electroacupuncture at Baihui (GV20), Shenting (GV24), bilateral Neiguan (PC6) bilateral Hegu (LI4) and bilateral Yongquan (KI1) in addition, for three months. They were tested the latency of the mismatch negativity (MMN), and assessed with Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and persistent vegetative state (PVS) score before, and one month and three months after treatment. Results:The latency of MMN decreased more in the observetion group than in the control group three months after treatment (t = 2.159, P < 0.05). Conclusion:Combination of electroacupuncture on TMS is more effective on wakefulness for consciousness disorder.

Fucoidan extracted from brown algae has multiple beneficial functions. In this study, we investigated the effects of low-molecular-weight fucoidan (oligo-FO) on renal fibrosis under in vitro and in vivo diabetic conditions, and its molecular mechanisms. Advanced glycation product (AGE)-stimulated rat renal proximal tubular epithelial cells (NRK-52E) and diabetic mice induced by high-fat diet and intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin and nicotinamide were used. Oligo-FO treatment significantly inhibited anti-high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1)/RAGE/ anti-nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB)/transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1)/TGF-ß1R/Smad 2/3/fibronectin signaling pathway and HIF-1α activation in AGE-stimulated NRK-52E cells. Conversely, the expression and activity of Sirt-1; the levels of ubiquitin-specific peptidase 22 (USP22), p-AMPK, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R), and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1); and Nrf2 activation were remarkably increased by oligo-FO in AGE-stimulated cells. However, the above effects of oligo-FO were greatly diminished by inhibiting Sirt-1, HO-1, or GLP-1R activity. Similar changes of these pro-fibrotic genes in the kidney and a marked attenuation of renal injury and dysfunction were observed in oligo-FO-treated diabetic mice. These findings indicated that the inhibitory effects of the oligo-FO on diabetes-evoked renal fibrosis are mediated by suppressing TGF-ß1-activated pro-fibrogenic processes via Sirt-1, HO-1, and GLP-1R dependence. Collectively, fucoidan-containing foods or supplements may be potential agents for ameliorating renal diseases due to excessive fibrosis.
