BACKGROUND: The interdisciplinary realm of medical humanities explores narratives and experiences that can enhance medical education for physicians through perspective-taking and reflective practice. However, there is a gap in comprehension regarding its appropriateness at the postgraduate level, especially when utilising art therapists as faculty. This study aims to assess the acceptability of an innovative art therapy-focused educational initiative among junior doctors during a palliative care rotation, with the goal of cultivating empathy and promoting well-being. METHODS: A qualitative research project was conducted at the Division of Supportive and Palliative Care (DSPC) in the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS). The study involved the recruitment of junior doctors who had successfully completed a three-month palliative care rotation program, spanning from January 2020 to April 2021. In a single small-group session lasting 1.5 h, with 3 to 4 participants each time, the individuals participated in activities such as collage making, group reflection, and sharing of artistic creations. These sessions were facilitated by an accredited art therapist and a clinical psychologist, focusing on themes related to empathy and wellbeing. To assess the acceptability of the program, two individual interviews were conducted three months apart with each participant. An independent research assistant utilised a semi-structured question guide that considered affective attitude, burden, perceived effectiveness, coherence, and self-efficacy. Thematic analysis of the transcribed data was then employed to scrutinise the participants' experiences. RESULTS: A total of 20 individual interviews were completed with 11 participants. The three themes identified were lack of pre-existing knowledge of the humanities, promotors, and barriers to program acceptability. CONCLUSIONS: The participants have mixed perceptions of the program's acceptability. While all completed the program in its entirety, the acceptability of the program is impeded by wider systemic factors such as service and manpower needs. It is vital to address these structural limitations as failing to do so risks skewing current ambivalence towards outright rejection of future endeavours to integrate humanities programs into medical education.

RESUMEN

A strategy combining collision cross section(CCS) prediction and quantitative structure-retention relationship(QSRR) model for quinoline and isoquinoline alkaloids was established based on UHPLC-IM-Q-TOF-MS and applied to Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex and Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex. The strategy included the following three steps.(1) The molecular features were extracted by the "find features" algorithm.(2) The potential quinoline and isoquinoline alkaloids were screened by filtering the original characteristic ions extracted from Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex and Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex by the established CCS vs m/z prediction interval.(3) According to the retention time of candidate compounds predicted by QSRR model, the chemical constituents were identified in combination with the characteristic fragment ions and pyrolysis law of secondary mass spectrometry. With the strategy, a total of 80 compounds were predicted, and 15 were identified accurately. The strategy is effective for the identification of small analogs of traditional Chinese medicine.

Acupuncture treatment in local areas is commonly used to treat pain or soreness; however, acupuncture around the neck or shoulder may be a risk factor for pneumothorax. Herein, we report two cases of iatrogenic pneumothorax after acupuncture. These points indicate that physicians should be aware of these risk factors through history-taking before acupuncture. Chronic pulmonary diseases, such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, tuberculosis, lung cancer, pneumonia, and thoracic surgery, may be associated with a higher risk of iatrogenic pneumothorax after acupuncture. Even if the incidence of pneumothorax should be low under caution and fully evaluated, it is still recommended to arrange further imaging examinations to rule out the possibility of iatrogenic pneumothorax.

Ferroptosis is one of the critical pathological events in spinal cord injury. Erythropoietin has been reported to improve the recovery of spinal cord injury. However, whether ferroptosis is involved in the neuroprotective effects of erythropoietin on spinal cord injury has not been examined. In this study, we established rat models of spinal cord injury by modified Allen's method and intraperitoneally administered 1000 and 5000 IU/kg erythropoietin once a week for 2 successive weeks. Both low and high doses of erythropoietin promoted recovery of hindlimb function, and the high dose of erythropoietin led to better outcome. High dose of erythropoietin exhibited a stronger suppressive effect on ferroptosis relative to the low dose of erythropoietin. The effects of erythropoietin on inhibiting ferroptosis-related protein expression and restoring mitochondrial morphology were similar to those of Fer-1 (a ferroptosis suppressor), and the effects of erythropoietin were largely diminished by RSL3 (ferroptosis activator). In vitro experiments showed that erythropoietin inhibited RSL3-induced ferroptosis in PC12 cells and increased the expression of xCT and Gpx4. This suggests that xCT and Gpx4 are involved in the neuroprotective effects of erythropoietin on spinal cord injury. Our findings reveal the underlying anti-ferroptosis role of erythropoietin and provide a potential therapeutic strategy for treating spinal cord injury.

Proteomic tools were used to identify the key proteins that might be associated with bronchial asthma(BA). Firstly, the serum samples from healthy adults and asthmatic patients were collected. Tandem Mass Tag~(TM)(TMT), which removes high-abundance structures and nonspecific proteins, was employed to identify the differentially expressed proteins between asthmatic patients and healthy adults. Gene Ontology(GO) annotation and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis were carried out for the differentially expressed proteins. The core proteins in the asthma group were screened out by protein-protein interaction(PPI) analysis. Then the core proteins were verified by Western blot for 3 patients with bronchial asthma and 3 healthy adults. A total of 778 differentially expressed proteins were screened out, among which 32 proteins contained quantitative information, including 18 up-regulated proteins and 14 down-regulated proteins. The differentially expressed proteins were enriched in 28 KEGG signaling pathways. The PPI analysis showed that 10 proteins(GDN, 1433 Z, VWF, HEMO, CERU, A1 AT, TSP1, G3 P, IBP7, and KPYM) might be involved in the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma. Compared with those in healthy adults, the expression levels of SLC25 A4, SVEP1, and KRT25 in the sera of asthmatic patients were up-regulated(P<0.05). Therefore, it is hypothesized that a variety of immune signaling pathways and differentially expressed proteins play a role in the pathogenesis of BA, which provides potential target information for the treatment of BA.

The greatest challenge in the analysis of herbal components lies in their variety and complexity. Therefore, efficient analytical tools for the separation and qualitative and quantitative analysis of multi-components are essential. In recent years, various emerging analytical techniques have offered significant support for complicated component analysis, with breakthroughs in selectivity, sensitivity, and rapid analysis. Among these techniques, supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) has attracted much attention because of its high column efficiency and environmental protection. SFC can be used to analyze a wide range of compounds, including non-polar and polar compounds, making it a prominent analytical platform. The applicability of SFC for the separation and determination of natural products in herbal medicines is overviewed in this article. The range of applications was expanded through the selection and optimization of stationary phases and mobile phases. We also focus on the two-dimensional SFC analysis. This paper provides new insight into SFC method development for herbal medicine analysis.

Rapid identification of chemical analogues in herbal medicines using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry was an efficient tool for discoveries of potentially active ingredients. Multi-dimensional combination of various separation technologies could significantly enhance the capacities for detection of trace components and discrimination of multiple isomers. In this study, an integrated two-step filtering strategy on liquid chromatography-ion mobility tandem with quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-IM-QTOF MS) was developed for identification of analogues in complex matrixes. The extracted raw data were preliminarily filtered by a collision-cross section (CCS) interval generated from power regression with confidence level at 99% for prediction of analogues. Then, the remained ions were further screened using a mass defect filtering (MDF) window based on m/z and decimal m/z of potential skeletons and substituents. By applying this strategy, 86, 102, 73, and 57 isoquinoline alkaloids were identified in herbal materials of Coptis chinensis Franch (CC), C. deltoidea C.Y.Cheng et Hsiao (CD), C. teeta Wall (CT), and Corydalis yanhusuo W.T.Wang (CY). The integrated two-step filtering presented higher efficiencies on exclusion of the background interference and reducing the false-positive rates than previously reported approaches. This study facilitated the application of LC-IM-MS on small molecular analysis and promoted the discoveries of bioactive components of herbal medicines for further pharmacological researches and quality control.

MAIN CONCLUSION: NB-LRR genes in the three Solanum species showed specific constitution characteristics and evolved multiple clusters and duplicates. Some genes could respond to biotic stresses such as tomato bacterial wilt. Nucleotide-binding and leucine-rich repeat (NB-LRR, NLR) is a largest resistance gene family in plants, which plays a key role in response to biotic stresses. In this study, NB-LRR genes in cultivated tomato Solanum lycopersicum (Sl) and its wild relatives S. pennellii (Spe) and S. pimpinellifolium (Spi) were analyzed using bioinformatics approaches. In total, 238, 202 and 217 NB-LRR genes of 8 different types were found in Sl, Spe and Spi, respectively. The three species showed similar genomic characteristics. The NB-LRR genes were mainly distributed on chromosomes 4, 5 and 11 and located at the distal zones, forming multiple clusters and tandem duplicates. A large number of homologs appeared through gene expansion, with most Ka/Ks values being less than 1, indicating that purifying selection had occurred in evolution. These genes were mainly expressed in root and could respond to different biotic stresses. RT-qPCR analysis revealed that SlNLR genes could respond to tomato bacterial wilt, with SlNLR1 probably involved in the resistance response, whereas others being the opposite. The transcription factors (TFs) and interaction proteins that regulate target genes were mainly Dof, NAC and MYB families and kinases. The results provide a basis for the isolation and application of related genes in plant disease resistance breeding.

Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are an emerging choice to treat neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. They are triesters of glycerol and three medium-chain fatty acids, such as capric (C8) and caprylic (C10) acids. The availability of C8-C10 methyl esters (C8-C10 ME) from vegetable oil processes has presented an opportunity to use methyl esters as raw materials for the synthesis of MCTs. However, there are few reports on enzymes that can efficiently hydrolyse C8-C10 ME to industrial specifications. Here, we report the discovery and identification of a novel lipase from Lasiodiplodia theobromae fungus (LTL1), which hydrolyses C8-C10 ME efficiently. LTL1 can perform hydrolysis over pH ranges from 3.0 to 9.0 and maintain thermotolerance up to 70 °C. It has high selectivity for monoesters over triesters and displays higher activity over commercially available lipases for C8-C10 ME to achieve 96.17% hydrolysis within 31 h. Structural analysis by protein X-ray crystallography revealed LTL1's well-conserved lipase core domain, together with a partially resolved N-terminal subdomain and an inserted loop, which may suggest its hydrolytic preference for monoesters. In conclusion, our results suggest that LTL1 provides a tractable route towards to production of C8-C10 fatty acids from methyl esters for the synthesis of MCTs.

The effectiveness and safety of electroacupuncture (EA) for depression have been identified by abundant clinical trials and experimental findings. The c-Jun-NH(2)-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathway is considered to be involved in the antidepressant mechanism of EA. However, the antidepressant effect of EA via modulating the expression of c-Fos/activator protein-1 (AP-1) under the condition of JNK inhibition remains unexplored. In this study, we investigated the antidepressant effect and possible mechanism of EA in regulating the expression of c-Fos/AP-1 under the condition of JNK inhibition by SP600125 in rats exposed to chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS). The depression-like behaviors were evaluated by the body weight, sucrose preference test (SPT), and open field test (OFT). The expression levels of c-Jun in the hypothalamus, c-Fos in the pituitary gland, and c-Fos and AP-1 in the serum of CUMS induced rat model of depression were detected by ELISA. The results indicated that treatment with EA and fluoxetine can reverse the CUMS-induced depression-like behaviors in rats and can up-regulate the expression levels of c-Jun in the hypothalamus, c-Fos in the pituitary gland, and c-Fos and AP-1 in the serum. Of note, the data demonstrated that SP600125, the inhibitor of JNK signaling pathway, can exert synergistic effect with EA in regulating CUMS-induced abnormal activation of the JNK signaling pathway. The antidepressant effect of EA might be mediated by modulating the expression of c-Fos/AP-1.

Subchondral bone lesions, as the crucial inducement for accelerating cartilage degeneration, have been considered as the initiating factor and the potential therapeutic target of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Acupotomy, the biomechanical therapy guided by traditional Chinese meridians theory, alleviates cartilage deterioration by correcting abnormal mechanics. Whether this mechanical effect of acupotomy inhibits KOA subchondral bone lesions is indistinct. This study aimed to investigate the effects of acupotomy on inhibiting subchondral bone resorption and to define the possible mechanism in immobilization-induced KOA rabbits. After KOA modeling, 8 groups of rabbits (4w/6w acupotomy, 4w/6w electroacupuncture, 4w/6w model, and 4w/6w control groups) received the indicated intervention for 3 weeks. Histological and bone histomorphometry analyses revealed that acupotomy prevented both cartilage surface erosion and subchondral bone loss. Further, acupotomy suppressed osteoclast activity and enhanced osteoblast activity in KOA subchondral bone, showing a significantly decreased expression of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9), and cathepsin K (Ctsk) and a significantly increased expression of osteocalcin (OCN); this regulation may be mediated by blocking the decrease in osteoprotegerin (OPG) and the increase in NF-κB receptor activated protein ligand (RANKL). These findings indicated that acupotomy inhibited osteoclast activity and promoted osteoblast activity to ameliorate hyperactive subchondral bone resorption and cartilage degeneration in immobilization-induced KOA rabbits, which may be mediated by the OPG/RANKL signaling pathway. Taken together, our results indicate that acupotomy may have therapeutic potential in KOA by restoring the balance between bone formation and bone resorption to attenuate subchondral bone lesions.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of tiaoren tongdu acupuncture method (for regulating the function of the Conception Vessel and promoting the circulation of the Governor Vessel) on fractional anisotropy (FA) and upper-extremity motor function after cerebral infarction by diffusion densor imaging (DTI) technology. METHODS: The patients with cerebral infarction were divided into an acupuncture group and a control group according to the random number table method, 27 cases in each group. In the control group, the basic treatment with conventional medication was used. In the acupuncture group, on the basic treatment as the control group, the tiaoren tongdu acupuncture method was provided. Main acupoints included Baihui (GV20), Shuigou(GV26), Chengjiang(CV24), Guanyuan(CV4), Qihai (CV6), Zhongwan (CV12), Shenting(GV24) and Mingmen(GV4). Supplementary points included Jianyu(LI15), Chize(LU5), Houxi (SI3), Weizhong (BL40), Zusanli (ST36) and Taichong (LR3) on the affected side. The needles were retained for 30 min. Acupuncture was given once a day, at the interval of 1 days every week, consecutively for 4 weeks. The upper extremity Fugl-Meyer assessment (UE-FMA) was used to evaluate the motor function of upper extremity before and after treatment. DTI was adopted to observe the FA values of infarct focus, posterior limb of internal capsule (PLIC) and cerebral peduncle on the affected side, as well as FA values at the corresponding parts on the healthy side in the patients of two groups. The relative differences (rFA) were calculated. RESULTS: Compared with their own pretreatment, the UE-FMA value was significantly higher after treatment in either of two groups separately (P<0.05 in the control group, P<0.01 in the acupuncture group). The difference of UE-FMA before and after treatment in the acupuncture group was larger than that in the control group (P<0.05). The FA and rFA values in infarct focus were higher than those before treatment in the two groups (P<0.05). The FA and rFA differences before and after treatment in the infarct focus and PLIC on the affected side were higher in the acupuncture group as compared with the control group (P<0.05). The UE-FMA difference was positively correlated with the rFA difference of each part in either group (P<0.05), and the correlation was the strongest in PLIC on the affected side in either group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Tiaoren tongdu acupuncture significantly improves the upper limb movement function after cerebral infarction. The rFA value of PLIC combined with UE-FMA can be used to evaluate the therapeutic effect of acupuncture on the upper extremity movement after cerebral infarction.

It has been confirmed that the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 caused the global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Studies have found that 3-chymotrypsin-like protease (3CLpro) is an essential enzyme for virus replication, and could be used as a potential target to inhibit SARS-CoV-2. In this work, 3CLpro was used as the target to complete the high-throughput virtual screening of the FDA-approved drugs, and Indinavir and other 10 drugs with high docking scores for 3CLpro were obtained. Studies on the binding pattern of 3CLpro and Indinavir found that Indinavir could form the stable hydrogen bond (H-bond) interactions with the catalytic dyad residues His41-Cys145. Binding free energy study found that Indinavir had high binding affinity with 3CLpro. Subsequently, molecular dynamics simulations were performed on the 3CLpro and 3CLpro-Indinavir systems, respectively. The post-dynamic analyses showed that the conformational state of the 3CLpro-Indinavir system transformed significantly and the system tended to be more stable. Moreover, analyses of the residue interaction network (RIN) and H-bond occupancy revealed that the residue-residue interaction at the catalytic site of 3CLpro was significantly enhanced after binding with Indinavir, which in turn inactivated the protein. In short, through this research, we hope to provide more valuable clues against COVID-19.

Sorafenib is the standard treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. This study aims to determine whether combining radiotherapy with sorafenib administration increases its efficacy. The study cohort included 4763 patients with diagnosed advanced HCC who received sorafenib between January 2012 and December 2015, as reported in medical records in the Taiwan Cancer Registry database. The effect of sorafenib with or without radiotherapy on survival was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank test. A Cox proportional hazards model was used for multivariate analysis. Patients receiving sorafenib plus radiotherapy had greater 1-year survival than did those receiving sorafenib alone (P < 0.001). Uni- and multivariate analyses also showed that radiotherapy increased survival after adjusting for confounders (adjusted HR 0.57; 95% CI 0.51-0.63). Further stratified analysis according to the timing of radiotherapy relative to sorafenib treatment revealed that patients who underwent radiotherapy after sorafenib had greater 1-year survival than did those undergoing radiotherapy within sorafenib use or sorafenib alone (adjusted HR 0.39; 95% CI 0.27-0.54). Combined treatment with sorafenib and radiotherapy results in greater HCC patient survival and should be considered an option for treating this challenging disease.

In response to no national standard for Gynostemma pentaphyllum, a market survey was carried out, and 17 batches of gypenosides extract and 29 batches of Gypenosides Tablets on the market were collected. With gypenoside A as an index, the TLC qualitative identification and HPLC quantitative evaluation method of gypenosides extract and tablets was established. Based on the determination results of 17 batches of gypenosides extract and 29 batches of Gypenosides Tablets, the quality standards of gypenosides extract and tablets were formulated respectively, so as to give suggestions for improving the quality standards of gypenosides extract and tablets. Compared with the existing ministerial standards, the qualitative identification and quantitative detection of specific components were added, in order to provide scientific basis and suggestions for the revision of the quality standard of gypenosides extract and tablet preparation.

Prompt and effective treatment of maternal depression during pregnancy is important as it is an independent predictor of negative maternal and fetal outcomes. Yoga is an increasingly popular non-pharmacological modality. This study thus aimed to undertake a meta-analysis of the efficacy of yoga-based interventions for maternal depression during pregnancy. A total of 8 clinical studies were systematically reviewed, and 6 studies with a total of 405 pregnant mothers were included in the final meta-analysis. Applying per-protocol analysis and a random-effects model, the pooled standardized mean difference (SMD) from baseline depressive score was -0.452 (95% CI: -0.816 to -0.880, P = 0.015), supporting a statistically significant beneficial effect of yoga-based interventions on mood. Overall, yoga-based interventions are a promising non-pharmacological option, however, most trials examined were preliminary, recruited only participants with mild depression, did not blind study participants and had relatively small sample sizes. Larger randomized, controlled trials should be encouraged.

Acupoint catgut embedding (ACE) is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine method to manage various diseases, including chronic inflammatory pain. We sought to assess the possible analgesic effects of ACE in comparison with electroacupuncture (EA) and to study the analgesic mechanisms of ACE in a rat model of inflammatory pain induced by injection of complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) into the hind paw of rats. The von Frey, radiant heat, and gait analysis tests were performed to evaluate the analgesic effects of ACE and EA, and Western blot and immunohistochemistry assays were carried out to determine the molecular mechanisms of ACE. ACE treatments were administered every 4 days or every week with different acupoints (ipsilateral, contralateral, or bilateral ST36 and GB30 acupoints). The most effective ACE strategy for attenuating the nocifensive response induced by CFA injection was performing ACE once a week at ipsilateral ST36 in combination with GB30. EA treatment every other day at ipsilateral ST36 and GB30 showed comparable analgesic effects. ACE inhibited the increased activation of the GluN1 subunit of the N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor and the subsequent Ca2+-dependent signals (CaMKII, ERK, and CREB) that take place in response to CFA. The effects of ACE were similar to intrathecal injection of vilazodone (a serotonin 1A receptor [5-HT1AR] agonist) and were blocked by WAY-100635 (a 5-HT1AR antagonist). In summary, we show that ACE attenuates CFA-induced inflammatory pain in rats by activating spinal 5-HT1AR and by inhibiting the phosphorylation of GluN1, thus, inhibiting the activation of Ca2+-dependent signaling cascades. PERSPECTIVE: This article presents the novel evidence concerning the spinal 5-HT1AR activation-related molecular signaling of ACE analgesia in a rat model of CFA-induced inflammatory pain. This work may help clinicians to verify the effectiveness of ACE analgesia and to better understand the underlying mechanism.

Chronic urticaria (CU) is one of common diseases of dermatology. It has the clinical characteristics of allergy, multiple, recurrent and persistent recovery. The clinical symptoms of patients are mainly pruritus and wheal, and concurrent with vascular edema, some patients may even suffer from chest tightness, nausea and other systemic symptoms. Its pathogenesis is still unclear, and it is generally considered to be related to autoimmune, chronic infection, coagulation mechanism, vitamin D deficiency and so on. Among them, autoimmunity may be one of the important causes for chronic urticaria. Clinical studies mostly focus on immunoglobulin E, T cell subsets CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, cytokines interleukin-2, interferon-γ, and complement C3, C4. Western medicine therapies mostly use antihistamines. The first generation of antihistamines have an obvious inhibitory effect on central nervous system, and side reactions, such as sedative and anticholinergic Effect. Although the second generation has a reduced inhibitory effect on central nervous system, it is easy to cause heart toxicity and relapse after drug withdrawal. Therefore, it is particularly important to find a safe and effective traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) therapy. Urticaria belongs to the category of " hidden rashes" in TCM. The etiology and pathogenesis are insufficient endowment of body elements, insufficient external defense or improper diet, damp-heat connotation. Classic prescriptions and self-prepared formulas, such as Jade Screen Powder, shall be used in the treatment of phlegm and blood stasis, with a clear clinical effect and a low recurrence rate. In addition, by reducing the level of immunoglobulin E in patients, improving CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cell levels, regulating the levels of related cytokines, increasing the levels of complement C3, C4, these therapies could reduce IgE levels, release of anaphylatoxins, stimulation of mast cells and inflammatory reactions, and regulate the body' s immune function, with a satisfactory efficacy. Therefore, the author has summarized the clinical researches on the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine in regulating chronic urticaria in past five years.

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of acupoint polyglactin 910 (PGLA) embedding in patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy (CSR). METHODS: A total of 102 CSR patients with neck and shoulder pain were recruited and assigned randomly into three groups: the sham acupoint embedding (SAE) group, the middle-layer acupoint PGLA embedding (MAPE) group, and the deep-layer acupoint PGLA embedding (DAPE) group. The primary outcomes were Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores showing the analgesic effects of treatment. Secondary outcomes included clinical symptoms (evaluated by the Yasuhisa Tanaka 20 (YT-20) score and the neck disability index (NDI)) and patient health status (evaluated by the 36-item short-form survey (SF-36)) as reported in the trial. RESULTS: Compared with the SAE group, VAS scores were significantly reduced at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 10 weeks after the first treatment in both the DAPE and MAPE groups (P < 0.001). Moreover, there were statistically significant increases in the weekly YT-20 scores and significant reductions of the weekly NDI scores compared with baseline values in both the DAPE and MAPE groups (P < 0.001). Compared with baseline values, both the physical component summary (PCS) and the mental component summary scores of the SF-36 at 2, 3, 4, and 10 weeks were significantly higher in the DAPE and MAPE groups (P < 0.001). There were significant lower VAS scores (P < 0.01), higher PCS scores (P < 0.05) at 3 weeks, and lower NDI scores (P < 0.05) at 4 weeks in the DAPE group compared with the MAPE group. CONCLUSIONS: Both DAPE and MAPE showed significant and long-lasting effects on alleviating pain and improving clinical symptoms as well as quality of life in CSR patients with neck and shoulder pain. A more intense effect was seen in the DAPE group compared with the MAPE group.
