RESUMEN

Trained immunity is one of the mechanisms by which BCG vaccination confers persistent nonspecific protection against diverse diseases. Genomic differences between the different BCG vaccine strains that are in global use could result in variable protection against tuberculosis and therapeutic effects on bladder cancer. In this study, we found that four representative BCG strains (BCG-Russia, BCG-Sweden, BCG-China, and BCG-Pasteur) covering all four genetic clusters differed in their ability to induce trained immunity and nonspecific protection. The trained immunity induced by BCG was associated with the Akt-mTOR-HIF1α axis, glycolysis, and NOD-like receptor signaling pathway. Multi-omics analysis (epigenomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics) showed that linoleic acid metabolism was correlated with the trained immunity-inducing capacity of different BCG strains. Linoleic acid participated in the induction of trained immunity and could act as adjuvants to enhance BCG-induced trained immunity, revealing a trained immunity-inducing signaling pathway that could be used in the adjuvant development.

RESUMEN

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication of cisplatin chemotherapy, which greatly limits its clinical effect and application. This study explored the function of solute Carrier Family 31 Member 1 (SLC31A1) in cisplatin-induced AKI and its possible mechanism. Mice and HK-2 cells were exposed to cisplatin to establish the in vivo and in vitro AKI models. Cell viability was detected by CCK-8. Mitochondrial and oxidative damage was determined by Mito-Tracker Green staining, mtROS level, ATP production, mitochondrial membrane potential, MDA content and CAT activity. AKI was evaluated by renal function and histopathological changes. Apoptosis was detected by TUNEL and caspase-3 expression. Molecule expression was measured by RT-qPCR, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry. Molecular mechanism was studied by luciferase reporter assay and ChIP. SLC31A1 level was predominantly increased by cisplatin exposure in AKI models. Notably, copper ion (Cu+) level was enhanced by cisplatin challenge. Moreover, Cu+ supplementation intensified cisplatin-induced cell death, mitochondrial dysfunction, and oxidative stress in HK-2 cells, indicating the involvement of cuproptosis in cisplatin-induced AKI, whereas these changes were partially counteracted by SLC31A1 knockdown. E74 like ETS transcription factor 3 (ELF3) could directly bind to SLC31A1 promoter and promote its transcription. ELF3 was up-regulated and positively correlated with SLC31A1 expression upon cisplatin-induced AKI. SLC31A1 silencing restored renal function, alleviated mitochondrial dysfunction, and apoptosis in cisplatin-induced AKI mice. ELF3 transcriptionally activated SLC31A1 to trigger cuproptosis that drove cisplatin-induced AKI through mitochondrial dysfunction, indicating that SLC31A1 might be a promising therapeutic target to mitigate AKI during cisplatin chemotherapy.

RESUMEN

Context: Early intervention and treatment are key measures for tuberculosis (TB) prevention and control, making early, rapid, and accurate diagnostic methods crucial. The Liquid-solid (Biphasic) rapid cultures is a novel tool for the differential diagnosis of tuberculosis. Objective: The study intended to evaluate the value of the biphasic cultures by comparing it to the acid-fast staining and liquid cultures, which have been the traditional gold-standard technology, to determine its value in the diagnosis of TB. Design: The research team conducted an experimental study. Setting: The study took place at the Affiliated Wuxi Fifth Hospital of Jiangnan University in Wuxi, China. Participants: Participants were 221 patients with suspected pulmonary tuberculosis who had been admitted to the hospital between July 2020 and December 2021. Outcome Measures: Using three methods-liquid-solid (biphasic) culture, acid-fast staining, and mycobacterial growth indicator tube (MGIT) 960 liquid culture, the research team tested participants' sputum samples: (1) for sensitivity; (2) for time to positive culture results, and (3) for differential diagnosis. Results: The biphasic culture's sensitivity was significantly higher than that of acid-fast staining, (P = .0003), and no significant difference existed between it and the MGIT 960 liquid cultures. The biphasic cultures's mean time to positivity was significantly shorter than that of the MGIT 960 liquid culture at the intervals 11-20 d (P < .0001) and 21-35 days (P = .0001). Moreover, the biphasic cultures could preliminarily differentiate nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) from mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), which is a significant advantage in tuberculosis diagnosis. Conclusions: This study highlights the potential of a biphasic culture as a reliable tool for the rapid differential diagnosis of tuberculosis, with a faster detection cycle and a higher sensitivity than conventional methods. The biphasic cultures is a valuable addition to the tuberculosis diagnostic armamentarium and can help improve patients' outcomes by enabling earlier diagnosis and treatments.

RESUMEN

There has been recently a growing interest in L2 learners' engagement as a central factor in their success. However, not all L2 learners are engaged intellectually, passionately, and behaviorally in L2 learning and this can be due to their experience of burnout in language educational settings. On the other hand, L2 learners frequently encounter heightened degrees of burnout because of emotional and behavioral disengagement. To relieve the relationship between engagement and burnout, the influential technique known as mindfulness, as a coping mechanism for enhancing engagement and reducing burnout among L2 learners, has emerged. Given this conceptual model, the purpose of this paper is to argue the mediator role of mindfulness, in light of self-determination and self-control theory, between L2 students' engagement and burnout. A few directions for future inquiries are discussed following this review.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Although the therapy-related bone loss attracts increasing attention nowadays, the differences in chemotherapy-induced bone loss and bone metabolism indexes change among breast cancer (BC) women with different menstrual statuses or chemotherapy regimens are unknown. The aim of the study is to explore the effects of different regimens of chemotherapy on bone health. METHOD: The self-control study enrolled 118 initially diagnosed BC women without distant metastasis who underwent dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) bone mineral density (BMD) screening and (or) bone metabolism index monitoring during chemotherapy at Chongqing Breast Cancer Center. Mann-Whitney U test, Cochran's Q test, and Wilcoxon sign rank test were performed. RESULTS: After chemotherapy, the BMD in the lumbar 1-4 and whole lumbar statistically decreased (- 1.8%/per 6 months), leading to a significantly increased proportion of osteoporosis (27.1% vs. 20.5%, P < 0.05), which were mainly seen in the premenopausal group (- 7.0%/per 6 months). Of the chemotherapeutic regimens of EC (epirubicin + cyclophosphamide), TC (docetaxel + cyclophosphamide), TEC (docetaxel + epirubicin + cyclophosphamide), and EC-T(H) [epirubicin + cyclophosphamide-docetaxel and/or trastuzumab], EC regimen had the least adverse impact on BMD, while the EC-TH regimen reduced BMD most (P < 0.05) inspite of the non-statistical difference between EC-T regimen, which was mainly seen in the postmenopausal group. Chemotherapy-induced amenorrhea (estradiol 94 pg/ml vs, 22 pg/ml; FSH 9.33 mIU/ml vs. 61.27 mIU/ml) was proved in premenopausal subgroup (P < 0.001). Except the postmenopausal population with calcium/VitD supplement, the albumin-adjusted calcium increased significantly (2.21 mmol/l vs. 2.33 mmol/l, P < 0.05) after chemotherapy. In postmenopausal group with calcium/VitD supplement, ß-CTX decreased significantly (0.56 ng/ml vs. 0.39 ng/ml, P < 0.05) and BMD were not affected by chemotherapy (P > 0. 05). In premenopausal group with calcium/VitD supplement, PTH decreased significantly (52.90 pg/ml vs. 28.80 pg/ml, P = 0. 008) and hip BMD increased after chemotherapy (0.845 g/m2 vs. 0.952 g/m2, P = 0. 006). As for both postmenopausal and premenopausal group without calcium/VitD supplement, there was a significant decrease in bone mass in hip and lumbar vertebrae after chemotherapy (0.831 g/m2 vs. 0.776 g/m2; 0.895 g/m2 vs. 0.870 g/m2, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Chemotherapy might induce lumbar vertebrae BMD loss and spine osteoporosis with regimen differences among Chinese BC patients. Calcium/VitD supplementation could improve bone turnover markers, bone metabolism indicators, and bone mineral density. Early interventions on bone health are needed for BC patients during chemotherapy.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of qi-invigorating blood-activating tongmai decoction combined with rosuvastatin in the treatment of senile type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) complicated with atherosclerosis (AS). METHODS: The clinical data of 122 elderly patients with T2DM complicated with AS treated in Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from February 2020 to November 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 57 patients treated with rosuvastatin alone were divided into a Monotherapy group, and 65 patients treated with qi-invigorating blood-activating tongmai decoction adjuvant combined with rosuvastatin were divided into a combined group. The two groups were compared in terms of efficacy after treatment, incidence of adverse reactions after 8 weeks of treatment, and carotid plaque indexes, glucose metabolism indexes and lipid metabolism indexes before and after 8 weeks of treatment. RESULTS: The Combined group showed a notably higher response rate than the Monotherapy group (P<0.05), but the two groups showed no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions (P>0.05). After 8 weeks of treatment, the intima-media thickness (IMT), plaque area, fasting blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerol (TG) and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) in the two groups decreased significantly, and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) in them increased significantly. Furthermore, the Combined group showed significantly higher levels of IMT, plaque area, fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, TC, TG and LDL-C, and a significantly lower HDL-C level than the Monotherapy group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Qi-invigorating blood-activating tongmai decoction can promote the therapeutic efficacy of rosuvastatin in elderly patients with T2DM complicated with AS.

RESUMEN

Objectives: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic lifelong inflammatory disease. Probiotics such as Bifidobacterium longum are considered to be beneficial to the recovery of intestinal inflammation by interaction with gut microbiota. Our goals were to define the effect of the exclusive use of BAA2573 on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis, including improvement of symptoms, alleviation of histopathological damage, and modulation of gut microbiota. Methods: In the present study, we pretreated C57BL/6J mice with Bifidobacterium longum BAA2573, one of the main components in an over-the-counter (OTC) probiotic mixture BIFOTO capsule, before modeling with DSS. 16S rDNA sequencing and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)-based non-targeted metabolomic profiling were performed with the collected feces. Results: We found that pretreatment of Bifidobacterium longum BAA2573 given by gavage significantly improved symptoms and histopathological damage in DSS-induced colitis mice. After the BAA2573 intervention, 57 genera and 39 metabolites were significantly altered. Pathway enrichment analysis demonstrated that starch and sucrose metabolism, vitamin B6 metabolism, and sphingolipid metabolism may contribute to ameliorating colitis. Moreover, we revealed that the gut microbiome and metabolites were interrelated in the BAA2573 intervention group, while Alistipes was the core genus. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates the impact of BAA2573 on the gut microbiota and reveals a possible novel adjuvant therapy for IBD patients.

RESUMEN

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) databases play a vital role in bridging the gap between TCM and modern medicine, as well as in promoting the popularity of TCM. Elucidating the bioactive ingredients of Chinese medicinal materials is key to TCM modernization and new drug discovery. However, one drawback of current TCM databases is the lack of quantitative data on the constituents of Chinese medicinal materials. Herein, we present ccTCM, a web-based platform designed to provide a component and compound-content-based resource on TCM and analysis services for medical experts. In terms of design features, ccTCM combines resource distribution, similarity analysis, and molecular-mechanism analysis to accelerate the discovery of bioactive ingredients in TCM. ccTCM contains 273 Chinese medicinal materials commonly used in clinical settings, covering 29 functional classifications. By searching and comparing, we finally adopted 2043 studies, from which we collected the compounds contained in each TCM with content greater than 0.001 %, and a total of 1449 were extracted. Subsequently, we collected 40,767 compound-target pairs by integrating multiple databases. Taken together, ccTCM is a versatile platform that can be used by TCM scientists to perform scientific and clinical TCM studies based on quantified ingredients of Chinese medicinal materials. ccTCM is freely accessible at http://www.cctcm.org.cn.

RESUMEN

Objective: Based on a retrospective cohort study, the study aims to investigate the effects of adipose plasma transfusion compared with normal plasma transfusion on adverse transfusion reactions, important functional indicators, and clinical safety in patients with parenteral nutrition (PN). Methods: One hundred and twenty inpatients who needed PN and plasma transfusion in Xianning Central Hospital from September 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, were enrolled as the actual application verification cases. All the patients in the group noticed the informed consent form, and the normal plasma transfusion was set as the control group (n = 40), and the fat plasma transfusion was set as the study group. Mild adipose plasma transfusion was adopted in study group ① and moderate adipose plasma transfusion was used in study group ②, 40 cases in each group. The blood routine tests, blood lipids, blood coagulation, liver function tests, and the incidence of adverse reactions of blood transfusion were compared. Results: The comparison results of platelet count, red blood cell count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit among the three groups are as follows: study group ②> study group ①> control group (P < 0.05).The levels of blood lipids in the three groups, triglyceride, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein, and low density lipoprotein were compared in group ②>group ①>control group (P < 0.05).The liver function tests indexes of the three groups were compared: ALT, AST, LDH: study ②study ①>control group. Regarding the incidence of adverse transfusion reactions, the incidence of adverse transfusion reactions in the study group was lower than in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Compared with normal plasma transfusion, the inpatients who need PN and plasma transfusion can effectively use the scrapped mild and moderate fatty plasma and reduce the plasma scrap rate. In the meantime, it has little effect on the function of the important indexes of the patients, and the incidence of adverse reactions of blood transfusion is low and the safety is high. Infusion of adipose plasma can also improve the effective individual and rational utilization of blood products. Trial registration: This trial is registered with chiCTR220005918.

RESUMEN

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Niu Huang Jie Du prescription (NHJD) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) widely used in patients suffering from excessive inner fire toxin (Huo Du Nei Sheng) syndrome, such as sore throat, gingival swelling, and pain, mouth and tongue sores, etc. This formula contains realgar (As4S4) which is one of the 28 toxic medicinal materials promulgated by the Chinese Ministry of Health. Many studies reported its toxicity on the liver and kidney, and the detoxification effect of NHJD. However, its detoxification mechanism is still unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY: To clarify the detoxification mechanism of NHJD to realgar, this study evaluated the detoxification effect of NHJD on realgar exposure in mice, and analyzed differences in mRNA expression profiles in liver tissues and associated functional predictions. MATERIAL AND METHODS: ICR mice were administered with NHJD, realgar, and CMC-Na as blank control for 12 weeks, respectively. Liver injury was evaluated by histopathologic examination and liver mRNA gene were sequenced by Illumina. Differentially expressed gene, functionally enrichment and protein association network analysis were conducted. RESULTS: 43 genes were screened out, among which 15 genes in the realgar group were decreased, but the extent of the decline has been restored in the NHJD group. The remaining 28 genes have exactly the opposite trends. Functional module analysis revealed that those detoxification function-related genes were primarily for positive regulation of glutathione metabolism, P450 on the metabolism of exogenous compounds, oxidative stress and immune-related, etc. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicated that realgar mainly causes liver damage by changing the common enzymes of drug metabolism, especially the expression of genes related to CYPs, GSTs family, oxidative stress, and complement immunity, while the TCM prescription NHJD has a regulatory effect on the abnormal expression of corresponding genes. Our results will provide some clues for the detoxification mechanism of arsenic-containing TCM prescriptions.

RESUMEN

We compared the efficacy and safety of ultrasound (US)-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and parathyroidectomy (PTX) for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT). In this single-center retrospective study, we divided patients into PTX (n = 53) and RFA (n = 47) groups. The primary outcome was the proportion of patients who achieved the target intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) concentration range (≤ 300 pg/mL). Secondary outcomes were the differences in the changes in iPTH, calcium, and phosphorus levels over time and prognosis. iPTH concentrations of 82.1% and 64.1% in the PTX and RFA groups, respectively, were within the recommended range at the endpoint (P = 0.07). iPTH concentrations in the PTX and RFA groups dropped sharply after treatment (82 ± 163 pg/mL and 280 ± 307 pg/mL, respectively, P < 0.001). There was no difference in the trends of iPTH, calcium, and phosphorus levels between the two groups (P > 0.05). Survival analysis revealed no differences in all-cause mortality and cumulative response rate between the two groups (P = 0.90, P = 0.14, respectively). Notably, the incidence of infection and length of the hospital stay in the RFA group were significantly lower. The preoperative bone-specific alkaline phosphatase concentration was a risk factor for postoperative hypocalcemia. US-guided RFA is minimally invasive and compared to PTX in terms of long-term efficacy and complications in the treatment of severe SHPT in maintenance dialysis patients. It may be used as an alternative technique to PTX; however, further studies are needed.

RESUMEN

The multifunctional theranostic nanoplatform based on the combination of persistent luminescent nanoparticles (PLNPs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has both in vivo imaging and tumor therapeutic drug-loading functions, providing a new strategy for accurate and effective tumor diagnosis and treatment. Herein, the near-infrared (NIR) PLNP SiO2@Zn1.05Ga1.9O4:Cr was combined with HKUST-1 MOFs to form a core-shell structure theranostic nanoplatform which possessed the triple function of autofluorescence-free NIR PersL bioimaging, tumor chemodynamic therapy (CDT), and tumor photothermal therapy (PTT). Also, the photothermal conversion efficiency reached 58.7%, which is superior to the reported nano metal-organic framework (NMOF) photothermal reagents. We demonstrated that the nanoplatform could enter the tumors of mice within 0.5 h and could be target-activated by H2O2 and H2S in the tumor cells, resulting in effective PTT and CDT synergistic treatment. Tumor-bearing mice experiments showed that the tumor could be completely cured without harming normal tissue. This theranostic nanoplatform may provide a promising strategy showing imaging, PTT, and CDT synergistic treatment tri-mode for clinical cancer therapy.

RESUMEN

Liver fibrosis is a pathological process of abnormal tissue proliferation in the liver caused by various pathogenic factors, which will further develop into cirrhosis or even hepatocellular carcinoma if liver injury is not intervened in time. As a diffuse progressive liver disease, its clinical manifestations are mostly excessive deposition of collagen-rich extracellular matrix resulting in scar formation due to liver injury. Hepatic fibrosis can be caused by hepatitis B and C, fatty liver, alcohol, and rare diseases such as hemochromatosis. As the metabolic center of the body, the liver regulates various vital activities. During the development of fibrosis, it is influenced by many other factors in addition to the central event of hepatic stellate cell activation. Currently, with the increasing understanding of TCM, the advantages of TCM with multiple components, pathways, and targets have been demonstrated. In this review, we will describe the factors influencing liver fibrosis, focusing on the effects of cells, intestinal flora, iron death, signaling pathways, autophagy and angiogenesis on liver fibrosis, and the therapeutic effects of herbal medicine on liver fibrosis.

RESUMEN

Nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) are crucial nutrients for eutrophication in the lacustrine ecosystem and attract the attention worldwide. However, the interaction between them need further clarification. This study aimed to assess the influence of dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonia (DNRA) on the cycle of P in lacustrine sediment. Different fractions of N and P in the pore water were measured using high-resolution in-situ measurement techniques, HR-Peeper and DGT, coupling with sequential extraction for solid sediment from a shallow freshwater lake. The results showed that elevated nitrate (NO3-) reduction via DNRA rather than denitrification was verified at deeper sediment layer, suggesting the generation of inorganic ammonia (NH4+) as electron donor under anaerobic episodes. High abundance of DNRA bacteria (nrfA gene) obtained using high-throughput sequencing analysis were detected at upper layer and responsible for the accumulation of NH4+ in the sediment coupling with chemolithoautotrophic metabolism. Additionally, significant desorption of ionic ferrous iron (Fe2+) and dissolved reactive phosphate (DRP) from solid phase and the enrichment in the solution was simultaneously detected. Higher concentration of solid Fe bound P (Fe-P) at deeper layer indicated the potential re-oxidation of Fe2+ as electron donor during DNRA process and sorption of DRP toward the Fe-containing minerals. However, obvious evidence of desorption proved by DGT indicated that higher NH4+ concentrations favored the reduction of Fe(III) oxy(hydr)oxides and the desorption of DRP into the pore water and diffusion toward the overlying water. Finally, noteworthy S2- release from solid sediment was speculated to stimulate the DNRA and facilitated the accumulation of NH4+ in the solution, which further induced the enrichment of DRP in water from the solid phase. Overall, DNRA potentially facilitates the accumulation of P in lake water, and the synchronous control of N and P is important for the eutrophication management and restoration of lake eutrophication.

RESUMEN

Different N and P fractions in microcosm incubation experiment was measured using high-resolution in-situ Peeper and DGT techniques combining with sequential extraction procedure. The results showed the synchronous desorption and release of PO43-, S2- and Fe2+ from the solid soil-originated sediment. This trend indicated that the significant reduction of Fe-P and SO42- occurred in the pore water during the inundation. The concentrations of PO43- in the overlying water and pore water increased to more than 0.1 and 0.2 mg/L at the beginning of the incubation experiment. Decreased NO3-concentrations from more than 1.5 mg/L to less than 0.5 mg/L combining with increasing NH4+ concentrations from less than 1 mg/L to more than 5 mg/L suggested the remarkable NO3- reduction via dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonia (DNRA) pathway over time. High NH4+ concentrations in the pore water aggravated the release of Fe2+ through reduction of Fe(III)-P as electric acceptors under anaerobic conditions. This process further stimulated the remarkable releasing of labile PO43- from the solid phase to the solution and potential diffusion into overlying water. Additionally, high S2- concentration at deeper layer indicated the reduction and releasing of S2- from oxidation states, which can stimulated the NO3- reduction and the accumulation of NH4+ in the pore water. This process can also provoke the reduction of Fe-P as electric acceptors following the release of labile PO43- into pore water. Generally, inundation potentially facilitate the desorption of labile P and attention should be paid during the reclaiming lake from polder.

RESUMEN

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is chronic inflammatory disease. Although coffee impacts metabolism, no evidence has shown an association between coffee consumption and decreased risk for developing metabolic syndrome (MetS) among RA patients. Hence, we examined the association between coffee consumption and metabolic syndrome severity among 1094 participants with self-reported RA. Accordingly, patients with MetS z-scores of <0 and ≥0 were designated as low- and high-risk groups, respectively. In the fully adjusted model, drinking over two cups of coffee daily was associated with a decrease in the MetS z-score (p = 0.04). Subgroup analysis showed that in the low-risk group, daily intake of <2 cups of coffee was associated with low MetS z-scores (p = 0.003), scores (p = 0.03). Coffee intake was associated with low body mass index (p = 0.03 for 0−2 cups per day; p = 0.02 for >2 cups per day) and low HOMA-IR (ß, −2.62; 95%CI, −5.13 to −0.11; p = 0.04). Our study suggests that coffee, but not decaffeinated coffee consumption and total caffeine intake, is associated with MetS severity in RA.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: With the continuous progression of a new generation of adjuvant chemotherapy, the survival time of breast cancer patients has also been significantly improved. Chemotherapy alone will cause a series of side effects, which will seriously affect the quality of life of breast cancer patients. Chinese medicine combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy has a unique advantage in the treatment of breast cancer. METHODS: English databases were searched using combinations of the following search terms: "traditional Chinese medicine", "neoadjuvant hemotherapy", "breast cancer", and "tumor of breast". Publications in which traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) combined with neoadjuvant therapy was the experimental group and chemotherapy alone was the control group were screened. RESULTS: A total of 12 publications were included in the meta-analysis. The efficiency of the performance status score was used to test for heterogeneity, Chi2=2.95, df=5, P=0.71>0.1, I2=0%, Z=3.36, odds ratio (OR) =2.61, and 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.49-4.58. The results of the heterogeneity test of the effective rate of the objective curative effect were as follows: Chi2=1.04, df=7, P=0.99>0.1, I2=0%<50%, Z=2.42, OR =2.00, and 95% CI, 1.14-3.49. The results for the heterogeneity test of the TCM syndrome score were as follows: I2=83%, P<0.00001, mean difference (MD) =8.84, 95% CI, 6.43-11.25, P<0.05. The results for the heterogeneity test of the incidence of adverse reactions in the digestive system after chemotherapy were as follows: Chi2=1.15, df=8, P=1.00>0.1, I2=0%<50%, Z=1.68, OR =0.04, 95% CI, -0.01 to 0.09. DISCUSSION: The meta-analysis confirmed that using TCM combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy to treat breast cancer has obvious advantages over chemotherapy alone in terms of the objective curative effect, the performance status score effective rate, the TCM syndrome score change, and the incidence of gastrointestinal adverse reactions after chemotherapy.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To verify the effect of Pilates training combined with biofeedback training, Kegel training combined with biofeedback training, and Kegel training alone on post-prostatectomy incontinence in male patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Forty-two patients were randomly divided into 3 groups. The changes occurring to the 3 groups before and after treatment and the differences between the 3 groups were assessed using a 1-hour pad test, number of incontinent episodes, the ICIQ questionnaire, and the Oxford Grading Scale. The 3 groups were required to undergo daily training for an 8-week period. RESULTS: At 8 weeks, groups A, B and C experienced a 34.3%, 61.9%, and 67% improvement in the 1-hour pad test, respectively, and 32.1%, 52.9%, and 58.8% reduction in the number of urinary incontinence episodes, respectively, and a 29.4%, 50%, and 64.7% reduction in the ICIQ Scale, respectively, and a 33.3%, 50%, and 50% in Oxford Grading Scale improvement, respectively. The graph results showed that the effect was noted after 3 weeks of treatment and a significant effect occurred by the eighth week of treatment. CONCLUSION: Three methods were shown to optimize urinary continence and pelvic floor muscle strength of patients with post-prostatectomy incontinence. The treatment effect of group C was better than group B, but there was no statistically significant difference in the 1-hour pad tests. It is particularly important to understand the time sensitivity for patient training.
