RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE To standardize the English translations of the current Chinese patent medicine (CPM) instructions in order to increase its English translation quality and improve its readability. METHODS In an attempt to standardize its English translation, 64 CPM instructions were collected as samples for translation projects in Trados, using its two core functions of translation memory and terminology, combined with pre-editing (PRE) and post-editing (PE) skills. RESULTS The results showed that translation projects had up to 21.65% perfect match. Based on translation project practice, it is proposed to use the free translation or transcreation plus transliteration method to translate product names of CPM, and apply two human-computer interaction translation modes:“ machine translation (MT)+computer-assisted translation (CAT)+PE” and “PRE+MT+CAT+PE”, which are adopted in the translation of weak literary sections and strong literary sections, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The application of CAT not only improves the translation quality and the translation mode, reduces the translation cost, and maintains the consistency and style of the translation, but also accumulates language assets for future use, providing a novel reference for translating traditional Chinese medicine literature.

RESUMEN

Entropy weight model (EWM) is widely used in water quality evaluation. In the conventional EWM, the weight is a monotone increasing function of the dispersion degree. However, this weighting principle often neglects the heavily polluted indicators. To solve this problem, an improved EWM is designed, in which the weight of the indicator is a compound function of its dispersion degree and pollution degree. In the clean domain, the weight increases with the dispersion degree, while in the polluted domain, the weight decreases with the dispersion degree. And for the same dispersion degree, the larger the pollution degree is, the higher the weight is, and vice versa. Subsequently, the improved EWM is applied to the water quality evaluation of Wucheng Wetland in Poyang Lake, China. Results are as follows: (i) For TP, CODMn, and NH3-N, their dispersion degrees are 0.001, 0.158, and 0.084; and their pollution degrees are 0.971, 0.277, and 0.281, respectively. (ii) According to the improved EWM, the weights of TP, CODMn, and NH3-N are 0.613, 0.197, and 0.190, respectively. (iii) The comprehensive water quality indices of estuary region, wetland region, and the central lake area are 32.5, 30.9, and 35.6, respectively, all of which belong to a "bad" grade. The water environment of Wucheng Wetland suffered serious damage of phosphorus, and the ecosystem faced a high threat. (iv) Compared with the conventional EWM, the improved EWM highlights the importance of polluted indicators, which makes the comprehensive evaluation results more rigorous and reasonable.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveThis study aims to explore the potential molecular mechanism of Gegen Qinliantang (GQL) in the intervention of atherosclerosis (AS) based on network pharmacology and molecular docking. MethodThe active components and targets of each medicinal in GQL were retrieved from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP), and AS-related genes from 7 databases. Thereby, the anti-AS targets of GQL were screened out. Cytoscape 3.8.0 was employed to construct the "component-target" network, and STRING the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. Core targets were screened out with CytoNCA. R clusterProfiler was used for Gene Ontology (GO) term enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment of target genes, which were then visualized. Finally, molecular docking of the top ten active components with the core targets of AS was performed and the binding affinity was compared with that between atorvastatin and the core targets. ResultIn the end, 150 active components of GQL, 20 289 AS targets, and 213 common targets were retrieved, and 48 core common targets were screened out. They were mainly involved in the GO terms of nuclear receptor activity, ligand activation, and transcription factor activity and the pathways of fluid shear force and AS, advanced glycation end products-receptor for advanced glycation end products (AGE/RAGE), interleukin-17 (IL-17), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), Toll-like receptor pathways and other signaling pathways closely related to AS. The molecular docking results showed that the effective components of GQL had high binding affinity to core targets of AS, and the binding affinity was even higher than that between the atorvastatin and core targets. The five groups with high binding affinity were puerarin-TNF, baicalein-inducible nitric oxide synthase 2 (NOS2), puerarin-NOS2, and formononetin-NOS2, wogonin-NOS2. ConclusionThe above result provides new ideas for further exploration of this classical decoction.

RESUMEN

Objective:To investigate the effects of Huanglian Jiedutang on learning and memory ability and the cholinergic system in Alzheimer's disease(AD) rats induced by amyloid β-protein(Aβ)1-42. Method:Sixty male SD rats were divided into normal group, model group, huperzine A group (2.1×10-5 g·kg-1), high-, medium- and low dose of Huanglian Jiedutang groups (6,3,1.5 g·kg-1). AD rat model was replicated by hippocampal injection of Aβ1-42. After 4 weeks of treatment, Morris water maze test was performed. Hematoxylineosin (HE) staining was used to observe the pathological changes of rat hippocampus. Sampling blood from abdominal aorta was taken. Acetylcholine (ACh), acetylcholinesterase (AchE) and choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) in serum and hippocampus were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The expression of hippocampal α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR) protein was detected by Western blot. The expression of hippocampal α7nAChR mRNA was detected by Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR). Result:Compared with the normal group, there were obvious pathological changes in the model group, such as neuron necrosis in the cerebral cortex, pyramidal cell or granular cell necrosis in the hippocampus, disorder of arrangement and inflammatory cell infiltration, prolonged escape latency, decreased escape platform times, decreased residence time in the effective area and swimming path in the effective area (P<0.05,P<0.01). The contents of α7nAChR mRNA,ACh,AchE,ChAT,α7nAChR in the hippocampus decreased (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the escape latency of the middle dose group was shorter (P<0.05), the escape platform times, the swimming path in the effective area and the residence time in the effective area increased (P<0.05,P<0.01), the contents of serum ACh,ChAT, hippocampal AchE,ChAT and α7nAChR increased (P<0.05,). The expression of hippocampal α7nAChR protein significantly increased (P<0.01), the residence time of effective area in high dose group was prolonged (P<0.01), the times of escape platform increased, and the contents of serum ACh,ChAT and hippocampal ACh,AchE,α7nAChR protein and α7nAChR mRNA increased (P<0.05). Conclusion:Huanglian Jiedutang can significantly improve the learning and memory ability of AD rats induced by Aβ1-42,and its mechanism may be related to the improvement of cholinergic system damage and enhancement of cholinergic system function induced by Aβ1-42.

RESUMEN

Objective:To observe the effect of Shenling Baizhusan on the protein and mRNA expression of inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa B kinase (IκK)/inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa B(IκB)/nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB) signaling pathway in the colon of rats with ulcerative colitis (UC) of spleen deficiency and dampness stagnation type, and to explore the mechanism of Shenling Baizhusan in the treatment of UC. Method:The 48 Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, Shenling Baizhusan group (15.6 g·kg-1) and osalazine sodium group (0.68 g·kg-1), 12 rats in each group. The model of UC with spleen deficiency and dampness stagnation was reproduced by trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)/ethanol enema combined with environment and diet intervention.Serum levels of tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-1β(IL-1β) were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). The expression of NF-κB p65, IκBα, IκKβ protein in colon tissue was measured by Western blot and immunohistochemical method, and the mRNA expression of NF-κB p65, IκBα and IκKβ in colon tissue of rats in each group was detected and compared by real time polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR). Result:Compared with normal group, the levels of TNF-α,IL-6 and IL-1β in the serum, the protein and mRNA expression of NF-κB p65, IκKβ in colon tissue of the model group was significantly higher than that of normal group (P<0.01), and the protein and mRNA expression of IκBα was significantly lower than that of normal group (P<0.01). Compared with model group, the protein and mRNA expression of NF-κB p65, IκKβ in colon tissue of the Shenling Baizhusan group and osalazine sodium group were significantly decreased (P<0.01), and the protein and mRNA expression of IκBα was significantly increased (P<0.01). Conclusion:Shenling Baizhusan can obviously down regulate the protein and mRNA expression of NF-κB p65, IκKβ,up regulate the expression of IκBα in colon tissue of UC rats with spleen deficiency and dampness stagnation. The inhibition of IκK/IκB/NF-κB signal pathway activation by Shenling Baizhusan is an important mechanism of its role in protecting intestinal mucosa.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the therapeutic effect of acupuncture in the treatment of patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) in the early stage. METHODS: A total of 60 KOA patients were randomized into medication group and acupuncture combined with medication (acupuncture) group (n= 30 in each group). Patients of the medication group were treated by external application of Diclofenac Diethylamine Emulgel around the affected joint, 3 times a day for 2 successive weeks and reasonable exercising training. Patients of the acupuncture group received routine medication and reasonable exercising training and acupuncture of Ashi-points, Zusanli (ST36), Yanglingquan (GB34), Yinlingquan (SP9), Neixiyan (EX-LE4) and Dubi (ST35) at affected side with filiform needles which were manipulated with uniform reinforcing-reducing method for a while, followed by retaining the needles for 30 min. The treatment was conducted once every other day for 2 weeks. The pain degree was assessed by using visual analog scale (VAS) and the Western Ontario McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scale (0-240 points) was used to evaluate the severity of KOA, and the "Diagnosis of Syndromes of Traditional Chinese Medicine" was used to assess the therapeutic effect after the treatment. RESULTS: After the treatment, the VAS and WOMAC scores of both medication and acupuncture groups were significantly and respectively decreased in comparison with their own pre-treatment (P0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture combined with medication has a better therapeutic effect in the treatment of KOA in the early stage than that of the simple medication.

RESUMEN

Injectable traditional Chinese medicine often contains multiple components including undefined toxic substances, can have high variability between batches, with undefined mechanisms of action. It is urgent to improve the quality and consistency and reduce the toxicity risk of traditional Chinese medicine. The Microtox technology is a simple, rapid method for the detection of toxic substances in the environment that uses non-pathogenic luminescent bacteria as an indicator, and the change in luminosity as an index. Using this bioassay we have systematically applied Microtox technology for the detection of microtoxicity in injectable traditional Chinese medicine. As a new method of bioactivity characterization, Microtox technology is expected to be used in the detection of quality fluctuations and toxicity risks at an early stage in the preparation of injectable traditional Chinese medicines and to improve the quality of injectable traditional Chinese medicine.

RESUMEN

Nowadays extensive attention has been paid on the research of acupuncture academic schools, however, a widely accepted method of partition of acupuncture academic schools is still in need. In this paper, the methods of partition of acupuncture academic schools in the history have been arranged, and three typical methods of"partition of five schools" "partition of eighteen schools" and "two-stage based partition" are summarized. After adeep analysis on the disadvantages and advantages of these three methods, a new method of partition of acupuncture academic schools that is called "three-stage based partition" is proposed. In this method, after the overall acupuncture academic schools are divided into an ancient stage, a modern stage and a contemporary stage, each schoolis divided into its sub-school category. It is believed that this method of partition can remedy the weaknesses ofcurrent methods, but also explore a new model of inheritance and development under a different aspect through thedifferentiation and interaction of acupuncture academic schools at three stages.

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the protective effect of electroacupuncture (EA) pretreatment on ovarian function in rats with ovulation induction.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty SD female rats were numbered according to random number table. According to vaginal smear method, rats of estrus were divided into a normal group (10 rats) and cohabitated with male SD rats with the proportion of 1:1. With computer-generated random number, the remaining rats were divided into a model group and an EA group, 10 rats in each one. The model of superovulation was established with pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in the model group and EA group. Before model establishment and cohabitation, rats in the EA group were treated with EA at "Guanyuan (CV 4)" and "Sanyinjiao (SP 6)", once for 15 min, for consecutive 7 days. Rats in the normal group and model group received no further treatment. The third day 23:00 pm after cohabitation, blood samples in three groups were collected to test the level of estradiol (E₂) and progesterone (P). After the rats were sacrificed, the HE staining method was applied to observe the morphological changes of ovarian tissue; the immunohistochemical method was applied to measure the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor VEGFR-2; the real-time quantitative PCR technique was applied to measure the gene expression of VEGF and VEGFR-2.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The number of ovarian follicle in the EA group was higher than that in the model group and normal group (all P < 0.05); the ratio of corpus luteum size to ovarian size in the EA group was lower than that in the model group (P < 0.01). The ratio of plasma estradiol to progesterone in the EA group tended to be normal group (P < 0.05) and lower than that in the model group (P < 0.01). The protein expression of VEGF and VEGFR-2 in lutein granulosa cell and follicular fluid in the EA group was lower than that in the model group (P < 0.05); gene level of VEGF and VEGFR-2 in ovarian tissue in the EA group was lower than that in the model group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>EA pretreatment has certain protective effect on ovarian function in rats with ovulation induction, which is likely to be related to regulation of VEGF and its receptor.</p>
