RESUMEN

There is an increasing evidence suggesting that myo-inositol (MI) may be a renoprotective factor. Our previous study revealed that decreased MI concentrations and increased excretion are often observed in animal models of renal injury and in patients with nephropathy. However, the role of MI supplementation in renal injury remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to explore the role of MI in cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). We established a model of acute kidney injury caused by cisplatin (CDDP). Male Kunming mice were randomly divided into six groups: Sham (normal saline), CDDP (15 mg/kg), + MI (150 mg/kg), + MI (300 mg/kg), + MI (600 mg/kg) and MI (600 mg/kg). Human renal tubular epithelial cell line HK-2 cells were likewise separated into six groups at random: Control (normal saline), CDDP (20 µM), + MI (200 µM), + MI (400 µM), + MI (800 µM) and MI (800 µM). After the model was established, renal function indexes were subsequently detected, and experiments such as pathological staining analysis and protein expression analysis were performed. Our results showed that cisplatin administration led to AKI and apoptosis in mice and HK-2 cells, accompanied by markedly increased levels of MIOX, kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), whereas exogenous MI significantly attenuated kidney injury and HK-2 cell damage induced by cisplatin both in vivo and in vitro by inhibiting excessive apoptosis. Overall, our findings demonstrate that exogenous MI can reduce excessive apoptosis, thus playing a protective role in cisplatin-induced AKI, indicating that exogenous MI may be used as an adjunctive treatment modality in cisplatin-induced AKI.

RESUMEN

High photosynthetic efficiency is the basis of high biomass and high harvest index in castor (Ricinus communis L.). Understanding the genetic law of photosynthetic traits will facilitate the breeding for high photosynthetic efficiency. In this study, the dynamic QTL mapping was performed with the populations F2 and BC1 derived from 2 parents with significant difference in net photosynthetic rate (Pn) at 3 stages, in order to reveal the genetic structure of photosynthetic traits. In F2 population, 26 single-locus QTLs were identified, including 3/3/1 (the QTL number at stage I/II/III, the same below), 1/2/0, 1/2/2, 1/3/1, 0/1/1, and 1/1/2 QTLs conferring Pn, water use efficiency (Wue), transpiration rate (Tr), stomatal conductance (Gs), intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci) and chlorophyll content (Cc), with a phenotypic variation explained (PVE) of 8.40%/8.91%/6.17%, 5.36%/31.74%/0, 7.31%/12.80%/15.15%, 1.60%/6.44%/0.02%, 0/1.10%/0.70% and 2.77%/3.96%/6.50% respectively. And 53 epistatic QTLs (31 pairs) were identified, including 2/2/5, 5/6/3, 4/4/2, 6/3/2, 3/2/0 and 4/0/0 ones conferring the above 6 traits, with a PVE of 6.52%/6.47%/19.04%, 16.72%/15.67%/14.12%, 18.57%/15.58%/7.34%, 21.72%/8.52%/7.13%, 13.33%/4.94%/0 and 7.84%/0/0 respectively. The QTL mapping results in BC1 population were consistent with those in F2 population, except fewer QTLs detected. Most QTLs identified were minor-effect ones, only a few were main-effect ones (PVE > 10%), focused on 2 traits, Wue and Tr, such as qWue1.1, qWue1.2, FqTr1.1, FqTr6, BqWue1.1 and BqTr3; The epistatic effects, especially those related to the dominance effects were the main genetic component of photosynthetic traits, and all the epistatic QTLs had no single-locus effects except qPn1.2, FqGs1.2, FqCi1.2 and qCc3.2; The detected QTLs underlying each trait varied at different stages except stable QTLs qGs1.1, detected at 3 stages, qWue2, qTr1.2 and qCc3.2, detected at 2 stages; 6 co-located QTLs were identified, each of which conferring 2-5 different traits, demonstrated the gene pleiotropy between photosynthetic traits; 2 QTL clusters, located within the marker intervals RCM1842-RCM1335 and RCM523-RCM83, contained 15/5 (F2/BC1) and 4/4 (F2/BC1) QTLs conferring multiple traits, including co-located QTLs and main-effect QTLs. The above results provided new insights into the genetic structure of photosynthetic traits and important references for the high photosynthetic efficiency breeding in castor plant.

RESUMEN

Polygonati Rhizoma is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with complex pre-processing steps. Fermentation is a common method for processing TCM to reduce herb toxicity and enhance their properties and/or produce new effects. Here, in this study, using Bacillus subtilis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, we aimed to evaluate the potential application of solid fermentation in isolating different functional polysaccharides from Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua. With hot water extraction, ethanol precipitation, DEAE anion exchange chromatography and gel filtration, multiple neutral and acidic polysaccharides were obtained, showing different yields, content, compositions and functional groups after fermentation. Combining in vitro experiments and in vivo aging and immunosuppressed mouse models, we further compared the antioxidant and immunomodulating bioactivities of these polysaccharides and found a prominent role of a natural polysaccharide (BNP) from fermented P. cyrtonema via Bacillus subtilis in regulating intestinal antioxidant defense and immune function, which may be a consequence of the ability of BNP to modulate the homeostasis of gut microbiota. Thus, this work provides evidence for the further development and utilization of P. cyrtonema with fermentation, and reveals the potential values of BNP in the treatment of intestinal disorders.

RESUMEN

Inhibition of epithelial ferroptosis in colonic tissues relieved clinical symptoms and improved endoscopic presentations in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Kumatakenin, the main ingredient of traditional Chinese medicinal cloves and Alpinia purpurata, is reported to possess therapeutic benefits. However, whether kumatakenin could inhibit ferroptosis and further alleviate colitis remains unclear. Here, we measured the effects of kumatakenin on ferroptosis of colonic epithelial cells from colitis mice. The colitis model was induced in mice by oral intake of 2.5% dextran sulfate sodium in drinking water. RNA sequencing was performed to investigate the mechanism underlying kumatakenin-mediated effects on colitis. The results showed that different doses of kumatakenin significantly alleviated symptoms and suppressed intestinal inflammation in the colitis mouse model. Kumatakenin supplementation decreased cellular iron levels and suppressed ferroptosis in epithelial cells from colitis mice. RNA sequencing, qPCR, and pharmacological inhibition assays showed that kumatakenin reduced cellular iron levels and suppressed ferroptosis in epithelial cells from colitis mice at least partially by upregulating expression of enolase (Eno-3). Furthermore, kumatakenin decreased iron levels in epithelial cells by modulating the Eno3-iron regulatory protein (IRP1) axis. Molecular docking results revealed that kumatakenin could bind Eno3 via hydrogen bonding with the amino acid residues Thr208, Val206, and Pro203. This work will provide a scientific basis for the clinical use of kumatakenin in the treatment of colitis.

RESUMEN

In brain-computer interface (BCI) systems, motor imagery electroencephalography (MI-EEG) signals are commonly used to detect participant intent. Many factors, including low signal-to-noise ratios and few high-quality samples, make MI classification difficult. In order for BCI systems to function, MI-EEG signals must be studied. In pattern recognition and other fields, deep learning approaches have recently been successfully applied. In contrast, few effective deep learning algorithms have been applied to BCI systems, especially MI-based systems. In this paper, we address these problems from two aspects based on the characteristics of EEG signals: first, we proposed a combined time-frequency domain data enhancement method. This method guarantees that the size of the training data is effectively increased while maintaining the intrinsic composition of the data. Second, our design consists of a parallel CNN that takes both raw EEG images and images transformed through continuous wavelet transform (CWT) as inputs. We conducted classification experiments on a public data set to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm. According to experimental results based on the BCI Competition IV Dataset2a, the average classification accuracy is 97.61%. A comparison of the proposed algorithm with other algorithms shows that it performs better in classification. The algorithm can be used to improve the classification performance of MI-based BCIs and BCI systems created for people with disabilities.

RESUMEN

Dam construction has far-reaching impacts on pollutant accumulation and the pollutant-induced quality of aquatic environments. Nonetheless, its large-scale effects on pollutant distribution in sediments, which greatly contribute to the environmental impacts of coexisting pollutants, remain poorly understood. We collected sediments from the Yangtze River during the dry and normal seasons (with 'normal' defined in terms of precipitation level), and examined how dam construction alters the spatial trajectories of both inorganic and organic pollutants in the sediments. Sediment composition exhibited linear variation from the upper to the lower reaches, with clay and silt particles dominating the sediment in the Three Gorges Reservoir and sand particles dominating in the middle-lower reaches. Accordingly, upstream of the Three Gorges Dam (TGD), sedimentary carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, heavy metal, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and oxygenated PAHs (OPAHs) contents increased toward the TGD owing to its regulation of the spatial variation in sediment particle size. The TGD caused upstream sedimentary accumulation of pollutants to be higher nearer to the TGD than in the upper reaches by 17%-129% for carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus, 7%-51% for heavy metals, 30% for PAHs, and 140% for OPAHs. Pollutant content was sharply lower below the TGD, by 0.58-11.15 times for carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus, 0.1-2.6 times for heavy metals, 1.7 times for PAHs, and 5.6 times for OPAHs. Upstream of the TGD, levels of NH4+-N, the main form of N in the interstitial water of the Yangtze River, increased lineary toward the TGD, whereas those of NO3--N and NO2--N decreased. Sedimentary organic matter source contributions were consistent along the Yangtze River, being on an average 46% for C3 plants and 28% for soil organic substances, further confirming the dam's regulatory effect on pollutants. These findings provide a foundation for future assessments of the environmental impact of dam-induced river fragmentation and hydrological alterations, and for developing advanced watershed pollutant management strategies.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a leading cause of global cardiovascular mortality. Refractory angina pectoris, a manifestation of CAD, requires effective drug treatments. Pericarpium Trichosanthis injection, a traditional Chinese medicine, improves cardiovascular symptoms, while nicorandil alleviates spasms and angina. Both have potential in treating CAD. AIM: To investigate the therapeutic effects of combining Pericarpium Trichosanthis injection and nicorandil in elderly patients suffering from refractory angina caused by coronary heart disease. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of 130 patients diagnosed with refractory coronary heart disease. Based on the different treatment regimens administered during hospitalization, the patients were divided into a control group (58 cases) and a study group (72 cases). The control group received conventional treatment, which included aspirin, statins, and nitrate vasodilators. In addition to the conventional medication, the study group received a combination treatment of Pericarpium Trichosanthis injection and nicorandil. RESULTS: After treatment, the study group showed significantly higher left ventricular ejection fraction and cardiac output, and lower brain natriuretic peptide and C-reactive protein levels compared to the control group. The study group also exhibited improvements in angina, quality of life, exercise endurance, and lipid profiles. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed a relationship of lipid levels and heart function with the combined treatment. Some patients in the study group experienced headaches during treatment, but no significant adverse reactions were observed. Follow-up showed that the treatment was well-tolerated, with no drug-related adverse reactions detected. CONCLUSION: Combination of Pericarpium Trichosanthis injection and nicorandil is more effective than conventional treatment in improving symptoms and heart function in elderly patients with refractory angina pectoris.

RESUMEN

To determine the content of endogenous toxic substance Pinellia ternata lectin(PTL) protein in Pinelliae Rhizoma and the related processed products, this study prepared specific monoclonal antibodies against PTL by hybridoma cell technology, and established a quantitative double-antibody sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) for PTL antigen. The detection conditions were 2.5 µg·mL~(-1) working concentration of the captured antibody and 1∶450 of the dilution multiple of detected antibody. The coating condition was staying overnight at 4 ℃. The blocking time and incubation times of antigen and detected antibody were all 90 minutes. The incubation time of horseradish peroxidase conjugated streptavidin-horseradish peroxidase(SA-HRP) was 15 minutes. The quantitative limit of the method for PTL antigen was 0.375 ng·mL~(-1). The linear range was 75.000-4 800.000 pg·mL~(-1), and R~2=0.997 1. The recovery rate was 90.0%-110.0%, and the variation coefficients of intra-test and inter-test precision were 2.0%-3.0% and 2.0%-8.5%.The content of PTL in three batches of Pinelliae Rhizoma and the related processed products was determined by the method, and the average content of PTL in Pinelliae Rhizoma was 35.42 mg·g~(-1). The average content of PTL in Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum Cum Alumine, Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum, and Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum Cum Zingibere Et Alumine were 1.15 mg·g~(-1), 16.53 µg·g~(-1), and 122.63 ng·g~(-1), respectively, indicating that the content of PTL decreased significantly after processing. The quantitative double-antibody sandwich ELISA for PTL antigen established in this paper had good linearity, sensitive response, and high accuracy, which provided a simple and effective monitoring method for the detection of PTL content in the processing of Pinelliae Rhizoma.

RESUMEN

This study focused on the water quality of a river in Wuhan City, China, which is surrounded by ponds that were transformed into a bypass multipond wetland system to improve river water quality. The bypass multipond wetland system included surface-flow artificial wetlands, modified partition ponds, aeration reoxygenation ponds, ecological ponds, and other processes. After the stable operation of the process, the water transparency was higher than 60 cm and the dissolved oxygen (DO) was higher than 5 mg/L, while the ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) concentration was less than 1.0 mg/L, total phosphorus (TP) was lower than 0.2 mg/L, and chemical oxygen demand (COD) was lower than 20 mg/L, achieving the treatment target. After monitoring the results of each process, the process which best enhanced the water transparency enhancement was the surface-flow of the artificial wetlands and ecological ponds. The aeration reoxygenation pond had the best effect on DO enhancement. The processes that most affected NH3-N and TP removal were the surface-flow artificial wetlands and ecological ponds. The modified parthenogenic pond had the greatest effect on COD removal. The bypass multipond wetland system not only improved the river water quality but also enhanced the river landscape, and can act as a reference for similar river water quality improvement actions.

RESUMEN

Background: To investigate the effects and mechanism of octamer-binding transcription factor 4 (Otc4A) on proliferation, invasion, and stemness of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. Methods: Firstly, normal fetal human cells (FHC, colon epithelial cells) and HT29 cells (CRC cells) were cultured. The expression levels of Otc4A, miR-7-5p, and TLR4 in cells were then detected by qRT-PCR. CCK-8 was adopted to measure cell proliferation rate after Otc4A, miR-7-5p, and TLR4, respectively, were either knocked out or overexpressed in HT29 cells. Later, the cell viability was detected by cell cloning assay; cell invasion by transwell; cell sphere-forming ability by sphere-formation assay; protein expression level of Otc4A, p65, p-p65, and TLR4 by western blot; and the targeting relationships between miR-7-5p and Otc4A as well as miR-7-5p and TLR4 by dual-luciferase reporter assay. Finally, chromatin immunoprecipitation was applied to verify the interaction between Otc4A and miR-7-5p. Results: In HT29 cells, Otc4A expression was significantly increased. Additionally, the knockdown of Otc4A prevented HT29 cells from proliferating, migrating, forming spheres, and activating NF-B signaling. Otc4A could negatively regulate miR-7-5p, and miR-7-5p could target TLR4 expression. Besides, a negative correlation was found between Otc4A and miR-7-5p. Finally, the knockdown of miR-7-5p or overexpression of TLR4 could significantly reverse the effect of the knockdown of Otc4A on HT29 cells. Conclusion: The transcription factor Otc4A can regulate the level of TLR4 by inhibiting the expression of miR-7-5p and then promote the proliferation and invasion of CRC cell HT29 as well as enhance cell stemness.

RESUMEN

The present study aims to investigate the correlation between irritant toxicity variation and lectin content variation during the processing of Pinelliae Rhizoma products and to explore the feasibility of Western blot as a method for the detection of lectin. We processed Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum Cum Alumine, Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum, and Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatumcum Zingibere et Alumine to different degrees and then analyzed their irritant toxicity via Draize rabbit eye test. Western blot was employed to determine the lectin content in Pinelliae Rhizoma products processed with different methods. The correlation between toxicity variation and lectin content variation was then analyzed. Different decoction pieces of Pinelliae Rhizoma were collected for the determination of lectin content. The three processed products of Pinelliae Rhizoma showed gradually decreased toxicity and lectin content as the processing continued. The decreasing trend of lectin content was consistent with that of irritant toxicity during processing, which indicated that the change in lectin content could reflect the trend of irritant toxicity. No band of lectin appeared in the Western blot of processed products of Pinelliae Rhizoma, which suggested that western blotting can be used for the detection of toxic lectin in the processed products of Pinelliae Rhizoma. Lectin should not be detected in the Pinelliae Rhizoma products processed according to the methods in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.

The chemical structures of all isolated compounds were identified in the light of their physicochemical properties, spectroscopic analyses, and comparisons of their physicochemical and spectroscopic data with the reported data in literature. As a result, 20 compounds were isolated and characterized from the 90% ethanol extract of the branches and leaves of A. incisus, which were identified as tephrosin(1), 6-hydroxy-6 a, 12 a-dehydrodeguelin(2), sarcolobin(3), lupiwighteone(4), 12-deoxo-12α-methoxyelliptone(5), 6 aα,12 aα-12 a-hydroxyelliptone(6), homopterocarpin(7), 3-hydroxy-8,9-dimethoxypterocarpan(8), pterocarpin(9), maackiain(10), medicarpin(11), calycosin(12), genistein(13), formononetin(14), 5-hydroxy-4',7-dimethoxy isoflavone(15), liquiritigenin(16), 4(15)-eudesmene-1ß,7α-diol(17), ent-4(15)-eudesmene-1ß,6α-diol(18), 1α-hydroxyisodauc-4-en-15-al(19), and guaianediol(20). Except compounds 13 and 16, all other compounds were isolated from the Artocarpus plants for the first time. Additionally, using MTS assay, compounds 1-20 were eva-luated for their anti-rheumatoid arthritis activities by measuring their anti-proliferative effects on synoviocytes in vitro. As a consequence, compounds 1-16 showed notable anti-rheumatoid arthritis activities, which displayed inhibitory effects on the proliferation of MH7 A synovial fibroblast cells, with the IC_(50) values in range of(9.86±0.09)-(218.07±1.96) µmol·L~(-1).

RESUMEN

This study investigated the anti-ascites effect of the total saponins of Phytolaccae Radix(PRTS) and the mechanism.H22 cell suspension was used(ip) to induce ascites in ICR male mice, and the model mice were randomized into model group, positive drug group(furosemide, 6 mg·kg~(-1)), total extract of Phytolaccae Radix(PRTE) group, and PRTS(1.29 g·kg~(-1)).Another 10 male mice were selected as the blank group.Mice in the blank group and model group were given(ig) normal saline containing 0.5% CMC-Na, and those in the positive drug group, PRTE group, and PRTS group received(ig) corresponding doses of drugs, once a day, for 8 consecutive days. The ascites volume, urine volume, and fecal water content in mice with ascites, serum levels of antidiure-tic hormone(ADH), renin in renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system(RAAS), angiotensin Ⅱ(AngⅡ), and aldosterone(ALD), expression of aquaporin(AQP)1-AQP4 in kidney, expression of AQP1, AQP3 in colon, and expression of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B(PI3 K/Akt) pathway-related proteins were detected to explore the anti-ascites mechanism of PRTS.The results showed that the PRTS can increase the urine volume and fecal water content and decrease the ascites volume of ascites mice. Moreover, PRTS significantly reduced the expression of AQP1-AQP4 in kidney and AQP1, AQP3 in colon, serum levels of renin, AngⅡ, ALD, and ADH, and the expression of p-PI3 K and p-Akt in the kidney of ascites mice.PRTS exerts anti-ascites effect by promoting urination and defecation. The mechanism is that it inhibits the activities of RAAS and ADH and suppresses the phosphorylation of PI3 K/Akt signaling pathway, thereby restricting the expression of AQPs in the kidney and colon.

RESUMEN

Accidents involving nuclear leakage and radioactive source diffusion will result in a substantial amount of radioactive pollution, posing a threat to the world's environment as well as human safety. To get rid of the pollution, this work describes a new type of strippable detergent coating designed to remove radioactive contamination, especially in low-temperature conditions. In situ polymerization was employed to make EC/PUA/PVAc detergent from degradable ethyl cellulose (EC), tea polyphenols (TP), and polyvinyl acetate (PVAc), and polytetramethylene ether glycol bis-para-aminobenzoate (P1000). The film-forming performance, decontamination efficiency, and mechanical properties of the decontamination coating formed by the detergent were studied. Designed to work in a low-temperature environment, the detergent can be sprayed and peeled to remove surface radioactive staining. A universal material testing machine was used to assess the low-temperature rheometry, SEM, EDX, FT-IR, and other variables and to characterize the decontamination coating and the decontamination mechanism of the detergent. At -10-10 °C, the EC/PUA/PVAc detergent has good fluidity and sprayability and forms a strippable coating. The tensile strength of the decontamination coating can be as high as 26.4 MPa, and its 180° peel strength on ceramic tile, glass, stainless steel, cement, marble are 0.49 ± 0.08 N/m, 1.82 ± 0.41 N/m, 3.03 ± 1.65 N/m, 35.60 ± 1.17 N/m, 44.43 ± 4.10 N/m, respectively. The decontamination factors ranged from 3.32 to 10.02, with a decontamination rate above 85%.

RESUMEN

As per the theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the liver and kidney dysfunction are important pathogenies for premature ovarian failure (POF). POF is a common gynecological disease that reduced the pregnancy rate. Electro-acupuncture (EA) is a useful non-pharmaceutical therapy that supposedly regulates the function of the liver and kidney in the treatment of POF with TCM. However, the underlying mechanism of EA in the treatment of POF has not been adequately studied through metabonomics with reference to the theory of TCM. Accordingly, we investigated the effect of EA on the liver and kidney metabolites in POF mice through metabolomics. POF mice were established via intraperitoneal injection of cisplatin. Both Sanyinjiao (SP6) and Guanyuan (CV4) were stimulated by EA for 3 weeks. The biological samples (including the serum and the ovary, liver, and kidney tissues) were evaluated by histopathology, molecular biology, and hydrogen-1 nuclear magnetic resonance (1HNMR)-based metabolomics to assess the efficacy of EA. 1HNMR data were analyzed by the orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA). The results revealed that EA was beneficial to ovarian function and the menstrual cycle of POF. Both the energy metabolism and neurotransmitter metabolism in the liver and kidney were regulated by EA. Notably, EA played an important role in regulating energy-related metabolism in the kidney, and the better effect of neurotransmitter-related metabolism in the liver was regulated by EA. These findings indicated that the ovarian functions could be improved and the metabolic disorder of the liver and kidney caused by POF could be regulated by EA. Our study results thus suggested that the EA therapy, based on the results for the liver and kidney, were related to POF in TCM, as preliminarily confirmed through metabolomics.

RESUMEN

Objectives: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic recurrent inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract, and its prevalence is increasing worldwide. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is an emerging therapy that modifies the patient's gut microbiota by transplanting feces from a healthy donor to achieve disease remission. However, its efficacy and safety need to be further investigated. Methods: PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Embase, and Google Scholar databases (up to 8th November 2021) were searched and literature was screened by title and abstract as well as full text. The primary outcome was clinical remission, with the clinical response as a secondary outcome. Risk ratios (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were reported. Results: A total of 14 trials were included in this study. In terms of clinical remission, FMT had a significant effect compared to placebo (RR = 1.44, 95 CI%: 1.03 to 2.02, I 2 = 38%, P=0.03), with no significant risk of study heterogeneity. Moreover, FMT led to significant results in clinical response compared to placebo with moderate between-study heterogeneity (RR = 1.34, 95 CI%: 0.92 to 1.94, I 2 = 51%, P=0.12). Subgroup analysis showed a higher clinical remission for fresh fecal FMT (40.9%) than that for frozen fecal FMT (32.2%); the efficacy of gastrointestinal (GI) pretreatment, the severity of disease, route of administration, and the donor selection remain unclear and require more extensive study. Safety analysis concluded that most adverse events were mild and self-resolving. The microbiological analysis found that the patient's gut microbiota varied in favor of the donor, with increased flora diversity and species richness. Conclusion: FMT is a safe, effective, and well-tolerated therapy. Studies have found that fresh fecal microbiota transplant can increase clinical remission rates. However, more randomized controlled trials and long-term follow-ups are needed to assess its long-term effectiveness and safety.

RESUMEN

The ecological risks such as water eutrophication caused by soil phosphorus loss have attracted extensive attention, and its dynamic changes and enrichment effects are the basis for formulating reasonable control measures. In this study, based on the paddy soils of 1.8×106 hm2 in Fujian province, the dynamic changes and ecological risks of available phosphorus in paddy soils over the past 40 years were analyzedusing a soil database of 1:50000. The soil database contained 1471, 215534, and 2895 paddy soil samples in different periods, respectively. The paddy soil samples were derived from the 1982 Second National Soil Census, the 2008 Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas Soil Testing and Formulated Fertilization Project and the 2018 Ministry of Agriculture, and the Rural Areas Arable Land Quality Monitoring Project, respectively. The results showed that from 1982 to 2018, the content of available phosphorus in paddy soils increased by 47 mg·kg-1, and the enriched area reached 1.65×106 hm2, accounting for 91% of the total paddy soils in Fujian province. From 1982 to 2008, the available phosphorus content of paddy soils in Fujian province increased by 28 mg·kg-1, with the enriched area reaching 1.47×106 hm2, accounting for 82% of the total paddy soils in Fujian province. From 2008 to 2018, the available phosphorus content of paddy soils in Fujian province increased by 19 mg·kg-1, with the enriched area reaching 1.22×106 hm2, accounting for 69% of the total paddy soils in Fujian province. Further ecological risk assessment showed that from 2008 to 2018, the area of paddy soil with ecological phosphorus enrichment risk in the province gradually increased, mainly distributed in percogenic paddy soils and hydromorphic paddy soils with a slope of less than 2°. In the future, effective phosphorus fertilizer management measures should be formulated for different types of paddy soil to prevent the occurrence of environmental problems such as water eutrophication.

RESUMEN

Renal cell carcinoma is abbreviated as renal carcinoma, and its clinical symptoms are basically hematuria, lumbago, and abdomen bump. As people's lifestyles change, the incidence of renal carcinoma continues to rise due to factors such as smoking and obesity. At present, surgical treatment is mostly used in clinical practice. Traditional open radical nephrectomy (ORN) is one of the main methods for clinical treatment of renal carcinoma. However, due to its large wound and large amount of intraoperative blood loss, the renal function of patients after surgery is poor, which is not conducive to the postoperative recovery of patients. Retroperitoneal laparoscopic radical nephrectomy (RLRN) has been widely used in the surgical treatment of renal cancer due to its advantages of small wound, less bleeding, and rapid recovery. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of RLRN in the treatment of renal cancer patients and its effect on renal function and to analyze the related factors affecting postoperative recurrence of patients. We adopt ORN and RLRN, two kinds of treatment, in patients with renal cancer surgery way, contrast analysis of the two groups of operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative intestinal function recovery time, drainage tube indwelling time, length of hospital stay, and other clinical indicators and renal function indexes and use the single factor analysis and multifactor analysis, the relevant factors that affect kidney cancer patients with postoperative recurrence. The results showed that, compared with ORN treatment, RLRN treatment of renal cancer patients has a short operation time, less trauma, quick recovery after surgery, and fewer complications and can effectively alleviate the renal function injury and the body's inflammatory response, which is worthy of promotion. Postoperative recurrence was related to age, tumor diameter, TNM stage, surgical method, and postoperative immunotherapy.

RESUMEN

Misuse and abuse of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) such as oxymetholone (OM) cause side effects such as male infertility, cardiovascular disorders, musculoskeletal, and hepato-renal dysfunctions in athletes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the protective effects of Lepidium draba L. (L. draba) extract on OM-induced hepato-renal toxicity. Thirty adult male Wistar rats into six groups (n = 5) were randomly divided as follows: control (normal saline), OM (5 mg/kg/day), L. draba-treated (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg/d) plus 5 mg/kg/day OM, and L. draba (400 mg/kg/d) groups. Normal saline, OM and L. draba extract were orally administered for 30 days. On day 31 of the study, hepatic and renal biochemical parameters were measured. Serum cytokines (IL-1ß, IL-10, IL-6) tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α) and nitric oxide, levels alongside catalase, glutathione peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase activity were evaluated. Also, changes in liver and kidney histopathology were evaluated. Finally, the anti-oxidant properties of the extract were determined. The results of this study showed that in the groups treated with the L. draba extract, hepatic-renal biochemical parameters improved and also the level of nitric oxide and inflammatory cytokines decreased and the activity of anti-oxidant enzymes increased compared with the OM group. These findings revealed that L. draba, due to its high anti-oxidant properties and high content of polyphenols (especially flavonoids), can improve OM-induced hepato-renal oxidative damages. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: L. draba due to its remarkable anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties can protects the kidney and liver injuries against oxymetholone. These features are attributed to the presence of phenolic and flavonoid components. This fidings would be helpful to desgin new therapeutic agents for treating and preventing liver/kidney injuries.
