RESUMEN

The relationship between gut microbiota (GM) and mental health is one of the focuses of psychobiology research. In recent years, the microbial-gut-brain axis (MGBA) concept has gradually formed about this bidirectional communication between gut and brain. But how the GM is involved in regulating brain function and how they affect emotional disorders these mechanisms are tenuous and limited to animal research, and often controversial. Therefore, in this review, we attempt to summarize and categorize the latest advances in current research on the mechanisms of GM and depression to provide valid information for future diagnoses and therapy of mental disorders. Finally, we introduced some antidepressant regimens that can help restore gut dysbiosis, including classic antidepressants, Chinese materia medica (CMM), diet, and exogenous strains. These studies provide further insight into GM's role and potential pathways in emotion-related diseases, which holds essential possible clinical outcomes for people with depression or related psychiatric disorders. Future research should focus on clarifying the causal role of GM in disease and developing microbial targets, applying these findings to the prevention and treatment of depression.

RESUMEN

To investigate the impact of inorganic and organic nitrogen on volatile compounds of cider, various levels (60, 150 and 240 mg N/L) of diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DAP) and amino acids mixture were added to apple juice before fermentation, respectively. The qualitative and quantitative of volatile substances were carried out by GC-MS. Further, sensory and electronic nose analysis was performed to analyze the aroma profile of cider. Both DAP and amino acids mixture promoted fermentation, significantly affected volatile compositions and increased perceived aromas of cider. Adding 60 mg N/L DAP significantly increased volatile compounds content, especially medium-chain fatty acid ethyl esters (MCFAEEs) and fatty acids (FAs), whereas higher alcohols and acetate esters concentrations were remarkably increased with 150 mg N/L amino acids supplementation. Partial least-squares (PLS) regression analysis suggested that MCFAEEs contributed the most to tropical fruity aroma. The study provides a theoretical foundation for high-quality cider brewing.

RESUMEN

Radix Sophorae flavescentis is generally used for the treatment of different stages of prostate cancer in China. It has ideal effects when combined with surgical treatment and chemotherapy. However, its active components are still ambiguous. We devised a comprehensive two-dimensional PC-3 prostate cancer cell membrane chromatography system for screening anti-prostate cancer components in Radix Sophorae flavescentis. Gefitinib and dexamethasone were chosen as positive and negative drugs respectively for validation and optimization the selectivity and suitability of the comprehensive two-dimensional chromatographic system. Five compounds, sophocarpine, matrine, oxymatrine, oxysophocarpine, and xanthohumol were found to have significant retention behaviors on the PC-3 cell membrane chromatography and were unambiguously identified by time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Cell proliferation and apoptosis assays confirmed that all five compounds had anti-prostate cancer effects. Matrine and xanthohumol had good inhibitory effects, with half maximal inhibitory concentration values of 0.893 and 0.137 mg/mL, respectively. Our comprehensive two-dimensional PC-3 prostate cancer cell membrane chromatographic system promotes the efficient recognition and rapid analysis of drug candidates, and it will be practical for the discovery of prostate cancer drugs from complex traditional Chinese medicines.
