RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo investigate the preventive and therapeutic effects of Tiaogan Huaxian pills combined with entecavir on hepatic fibrosis in chronic hepatitis B with liver Qi stagnation, spleen deficiency, and blood stasis syndrome and its effect on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). MethodClinical data of 117 patients with liver disease who visited the Department of Hepatology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine from January 2021 to April 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. According to different treatment plans, they were divided into a control group (59 cases) and a treatment group (58 cases). Both groups of patients received entecavir-based etiology treatment, and the treatment group added Tiaogan Huaxian pills on the basis of basic treatment. Both groups were treated for 24 weeks. Before and after treatment, the two groups were compared in terms of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), advanced surgical technologies (AST), total bilirubin (TBil), hepatitis B virus (HBV)-DNA conversion rate, liver stiffness measurement (LSM), four items of liver fibrosis (hyaluronidase, type Ⅲ pro-collagen, type Ⅳ collagen, and laminin), the fibrosis index based on four factors (FIB-4), the aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index (APRI), the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores, so as to analyze the efficacy of the two groups. ResultBefore treatment, there was no significant difference in ALT, AST, TBil, LSM, four items of liver fibrosis, FIB-4, APRI, HBV-DNA conversion rate, ADC value, and traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores between the two groups. After treatment, both groups of patients showed significant reductions in ALT, AST, TBil, LSM, hyaluronidase, type Ⅲ pro-collagen, type Ⅳ collagen, laminin, FIB-4, and APRI (P<0.05) and a significant increase in ADC value (P<0.05) and HBV-DNA conversion rate (P<0.01). The traditional Chinese medicine symptom score of the treatment group decreased significantly (P<0.05). Compared with the control group after treatment, the effective rate of clinical traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment group was 91.38% (53/58), which was significantly higher than that of the control group (54.23%, 32/59) (Z=-4.325, P<0.01). In the treatment group, ALT, AST, TBil, LSM, hyaluronidase, type Ⅲ pro-collagen, type Ⅳ collagen, laminin, FIB-4, APRI, and traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores all decreased significantly (P<0.05), and the increase in ADC values was more significant (P<0.05), while the difference in HBV-DNA conversion rate was not statistically significant. There were no serious adverse reactions or events in either group. ConclusionTiaogan Huaxian pills combined with entecavir have significant clinical efficacy in the treatment of hepatic fibrosis in chronic hepatitis B, which can reduce liver inflammation activity, delay hepatic fibrosis progression, and reduce traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores. It is worthy of clinical promotion and application.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#To observe the effect of preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative electroacupuncture (EA) intervention on postoperative urination function in patients with mixed hemorrhoid surgery.@*METHODS@#A total of 240 patients with mixed hemorrhoid surgery under lumbar anesthesia were randomly divided into an EA preconditioning group (group A, 60 cases, 9 cases dropped off), an intraoperative EA group (group B, 60 cases, 4 cases dropped off), a postoperative EA group (group C, 60 cases, 6 cases dropped off), and a non-acupuncture group (group D, 60 cases, 3 cases dropped off). In the groups A, B and C, EA was exerted at Zhongliao (BL 33) and Huiyang (BL 35) , with disperse-dense wave, 4 Hz/20 Hz in frequency, and lasting 30 min, at 30 min before lumbar anesthesia, immediately after lumbar anesthesia and 6 h after surgery, respectively. No EA intervention was performed in the group D. The postoperative urination smoothness score in each group was observed 24 h after surgery. The first urination time, first urination volume, urine residual volume after first urination were recorded, and incidence of indwelling catheterization, postoperative visual analogue scale (VAS) score, number of remedial analgesia, and the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting were observed in each group.@*RESULTS@#In the groups A, B and C, the postoperative urination smoothness scores were superior to the group D (P<0.05), and the time of first urination was earlier than the group D (P<0.05). In the group C, the time of first urination was earlier than the group A and the group B (P<0.05), the first urination volume was higher than the group D (P<0.05), and the urine residual volume after first urination was lower than the group D (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of indwelling catheterization and postoperative nausea and vomiting among the 4 groups (P>0.05). The VAS scores of the group A, B and C were lower than that in the group D (P<0.05), and the number of remedial analgesia cases was lower than that in the group D (P<0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#EA intervention could promote the recovery of urination function and relieve postoperative pain in patients with mixed hemorrhoids surgery. Early postoperative EA intervention is more conducive to the recovery of urination function.

RESUMEN

AIMS: Fractures are the result of fragile bone structures after trauma caused by direct or indirect external impact or strong muscular contraction. Most fracture patients undergo surgical fixation to accelerate the healing process and restore the function of mutilated bone. Promoting the healing process remains an important issue for the treatment of bone fractures. Our previous studies demonstrated the remarkable bone-protective effects of kefir peptides (KPs) in ovariectomized rats and mice. In this study, we further evaluate the efficacy of KPs on fracture healing using a rat model of femoral fracture. MAIN METHODS: Fifteen 8-week-old male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were divided into the sham, mock, and KPs groups, in which the mock and the KPs groups underwent femur-fracture surgery with nail fixation, while the sham group underwent a sham operation. The next day, rats were orally administered with daily 400 mg/kg of KPs (KPs group) or distilled water (sham and mock groups) for four weeks. X-ray imaging, histochemical staining and serum osteogenic markers were applied for fracture healing evaluation. In vitro, mouse bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) and MC3T3-E1 line were subjected to osteoblast differentiation in the presence of KPs and compared with no KPs treatment. KEY FINDINGS: The results demonstrated that KPs treatment improved the progression of the fracture healing process (p < 0.05) and significantly increased the expressions of Col1a1, Alp, Spp1, Vegfa and Cox2 mRNA in the femurs of the KPs-treated fractured rats compared to those of the mock-treated fracture rats. In vitro, KPs treatment promoted bone regeneration factor (Col1a1, Alp, M-csf and Phospho1) expression in MC3T3-E1-derived osteoblast cultures (on Day 3) and enhanced osteogenic differentiation and mineralization in BMMSC-derived osteoblast cultures (on Day 17 and Day 21). SIGNIFICANCE: This is the first study to show that KPs can help with fracture healing by promoting osteogenic differentiation, and it also suggests that KPs can be used as a nutritional supplement to accelerate fracture healing.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Limited data are available for tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated lymphoepithelioma-like cholangiocarcinoma (EBV-LELCC), a rare subtype of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (IHCC). We aimed to investigate TIME features in EBV-LELCC and the correlation between the components of TIME and the clinical outcomes. METHODS: Tumor tissues from five EBV-LELCC cases confirmed through EBER in situ hybridization and five stage-matched conventional IHCC (non-EBV IHCC) cases were collected. These samples were used to evaluate genetic alterations, TIME composition, and PD-L1 expression through ion AmpliSeq comprehensive cancer panel, PanCancer immune profiling panel, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence staining. The correlation between clinical outcomes and TIME components was analyzed in the two EBV-LELCC cases receiving anti-PD-1 treatment. RESULTS: The genetic mutations identified in EBV-LELCC were BARD1, CD19, CD79B, EPHA5, KDM5A, MUC6, MUC16, PTEN, RECQL4, TET1, and TNFAIP3. Both CD79B and TNFAIP3 mutations were involved in the NF-κB signaling pathway. PD-L1 was highly expressed in tumor-infiltrating immune cells, especially the T cells and macrophages. The TIME of EBV-LELCC displayed abundant immune cell infiltration with a stronger adaptive immune response. Increased Th1 cells, NK CD56dim cells, and M1 macrophages, decreased M2 macrophages, exhausted CD8 T cell infiltration, and increased T cell activation signatures in TIME were associated with longer survival. Two patients with metastatic EBV-LELCC had good disease control after anti-PD-1 antibody treatment. A significantly larger TIME component made EBV-LELCCs more sensitive to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB). CONCLUSION: A better understanding of the composition of TIME in EBV-LELCC is critical for predicting the clinical outcomes of ICB treatment.

RESUMEN

Soil carbon supplementation is known to stimulate plant growth by improving soil fertility and plant nutrient uptake. However, the underlying process and chemical mechanism that could explain the interrelationship between soil carbon supplementation, soil micro-ecology, and the growth and quality of plant remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the influence and mechanism of soil carbon supplementation on the bacterial community, chemical cycling, mineral nutrition absorption, growth and properties of tobacco leaves. The soil carbon supplementation increased amino acid, carbohydrates, chemical energy metabolism, and bacterial richness in the soil. This led to increased content of sugar (23.75%), starch (13.25%), and chlorophyll (10.56%) in tobacco leaves. Linear discriminant analysis revealed 49 key phylotypes and significant increment of some of the Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) genera (Bacillus, Novosphingobium, Pseudomonas, Sphingomonas) in the rhizosphere, which can influence the tobacco growth. Partial Least Squares Path Modeling (PLS-PM) showed that soil carbon supplementation positively affected the sugar and starch contents in tobacco leaves by possibly altering the photosynthesis pathway towards increasing the aroma of the leaves, thus contributing to enhanced tobacco flavor. These findings are useful for understanding the influence of soil carbon supplementation on bacterial community for improving the yields and quality of tobacco in industrial plantation.

RESUMEN

Professor WU Lian-zhong's experience in treating spasmodic torticollis by Kaiqiao Shunjin method (resuscitation and regulating muscle) is summarized in this paper. The pathogenesis of spasmodic torticollis is the occluded brain orifices and delirium, qi disorder of meridian tendons, specifically divided into five categories: damp-heat, liver-yang hyperactivity, liver-kidney yin deficiency, deficiency of the governor vessel, excess of the governor vessel. The treatment should be based on the symptoms and the root causes, the symptoms should be the main treatment, and the root cause should be treated based on syndrome differentiation. The main treatment is Kaiqiao Shunjin method (resuscitation and regulating muscle), and to take the chief (five heart acupoints-Shuigou [GV 26], Laogong [PC 8], Yongquan [KI 1]), deputy (Yintang [GV 24+], Shangxing [GV 23] through Baihui [GV 20], Ximen [PC 4]), assistant (Fenglong [ST 40], Lianquan [CV 23], combined with tongue needle prick), envoy (Hanyan [GB 4]) as the basic main acupoints, at the same time cooperate with local acupoints to remove knots and accumulation. Finally, syndrome differentiation is adopted to dredge meridians and disperse knots, regulate the governor vessel, and nourish yin and dispel wind.

RESUMEN

Ampullary cancer is a rare periampullary cancer currently with no targeted therapeutic agent. It is important to develop a deeper understanding of the carcinogenesis of ampullary cancer. We attempted to explore the characteristics of ampullary cancer in our dataset and a public database, followed by a search for potential drugs. We used a bioinformatics pipeline to analyze complementary (c)DNA microarray data of ampullary cancer and surrounding normal duodenal tissues from five patients. A public database from the National Center for Biotechnology Information Gene Expression Omnibus (NCBI GEO) was applied for external validation. Bioinformatics tools used included the Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA), Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery (DAVID), MetaCore, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), Hallmark, BioCarta, Reactome, and Connectivity Map (CMap). In total, 9097 genes were upregulated in the five ampullary cancer samples compared to normal duodenal tissues. From the MetaCore analysis, genes of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARA) and retinoid X receptor (RXR)-regulated lipid metabolism were overexpressed in ampullary cancer tissues. Further a GSEA of the KEGG, Hallmark, Reactome, and Gene Ontology databases revealed that PPARA and lipid metabolism-related genes were enriched in our specimens of ampullary cancer and in the NCBI GSE39409 database. Expressions of PPARA messenger (m)RNA and the PPAR-α protein were higher in clinical samples and cell lines of ampullary cancer. US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drugs, including alvespimycin, trichostatin A (a histone deacetylase inhibitor), and cytochalasin B, may have novel therapeutic effects in ampullary cancer patients as predicted by the CMap analysis. Trichostatin A was the most potent agent for ampullary cancer with a half maximal inhibitory concentration of < 0.3 µM. According to our results, upregulation of PPARA and lipid metabolism-related genes are potential pathways in the carcinogenesis and development of ampullary cancer. Results from the CMap analysis suggested potential drugs for patients with ampullary cancer.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of berberine (BBR) on endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and apoptosis of intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) in mice with ulcerative colitis (UC). BALB/c mice were randomly divided into five groups as follows: blank control, model, and low-, medium-, and high-dose BBR. A dextran sodium sulfate- (DSS-) induced model of UC was prepared, and the low-, medium-, and high-dose BBR groups were simultaneously gavaged with a BBR suspension for 7 d. Disease activity index (DAI) was assessed, and tissue damage index (TDI) was assessed from colon samples after the last administration. TUNEL assays were used to detect apoptosis of IECs. Immunohistochemistry and/or real-time PCR were applied to determine the expression of GRP78, caspase-12, and caspase-3. In all BBR treatment groups, clinical symptoms of colitis and histopathological damage were significantly reduced. The high-dose BBR group exhibited particularly pronounced decrease (p < 0.01) in both DAI (0.48 ± 0.36) and TDI (1.62 ± 0.64) relative to the model group (1.50 ± 0.65 and 3.88 ± 0.04, respectively). In colon tissues of the model group, the number of apoptotic IECs was significantly increased; the expression of GRP78, caspase-12, and caspase-3 proteins was significantly increased; and the expression of the GRP78 mRNA was upregulated. In low-, medium-, and high-dose BBR groups, the number of apoptotic IECs was significantly reduced. Moreover, GRP78 and caspase-3 expression levels were significantly decreased in the medium- and high-dose BBR groups, caspase-12 expression was significantly decreased in the high-dose BBR group, and the GRP78 mRNA expression level was significantly decreased in the high-dose BBR group. BBR can effectively reduce the rate of IEC apoptosis in UC mice and alleviate the inflammatory response in the colon. The underlying mechanism seems to involve ERS modulation and inhibition of ERS-mediated activation of the caspase-12/caspase-3 apoptosis signaling pathway.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of Tripterygium wilfordii polycoride (TWP) on the NADPH oxidases (NOXs)-reactive oxygen species (ROS)-NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome signaling pathway and the possibility of using TWP to treat ulcerative colitis (UC). METHODS: BALB/c mice were randomly divided into five groups: model control, low TWP, middle TWP, high TWP, and normal control groups. A UC model was established with dextran sulfate sodium. The determination of ROS was carried out by using the fluorescent probe DCFH-DA, and NOXs activity was detected based on the NADPH consumption rate. The mRNA expression levels of NLRP3, ASC, and caspase-1 in the colon tissues and neutrophils were assessed via real-time PCR. RESULTS: The colon tissues were abnormal with different degrees in TWP groups with disease activity index and histopathological scores lower than those in the model group. In TWP groups, ROS generation, NOXs activity, and the mRNA expression levels of NLRP3, ASC, and caspase-1 in the colon tissues and colon-isolated neutrophils were remarkably lower than those in the model control group (P < 0.05) and higher than those in the normal group (P < 0.05). The results of pairwise comparison for the efficacy of TWP administration showed that the above indexes were statistically significant with the lowest expression in the high TWP group (P < 0.05) and the highest expression in the low TWP group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: TWP demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects on UC by decreasing the expression of proinflammatory factors in the NOXs-ROS-NLRP3 signaling pathway.

RESUMEN

According to ObgC gene sequences from Cyathula officinalis genomic data, the specific primers were designed, and a full-length CoObgC cDNA (2 226 bp) was obtained by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) methord. Sequence alignment showed that CoObgC gene contained a 1 818 bp open reading frame (ORF) encoding 605 amino acids. Sequence analysis predicted that molecular weight of CoObgC protein was about 66.39 kDa, the academic isoelectric point was 5.35, and the protein was stable protein. Then multiple sequence alignment was applied to construct phylogenetic tree. The real-time fluorescence quantification PCR (RT-qPCR) demonstrated that a high expression level in leaf, followed by root and flower, the low transcription was in stem. The recombinant vector pCABIA2300-CoObgC was constructed and introduced into tobacco epidermal cells by agrobacterium-mediated transformation, green fluorescence was tested and targeted to chloroplast under a laser scanning confocal microscope. These findings will be helpful to lay a foundation for studying the structure and function of CoObgC gene, and elucidating C. officinalis molecular biology experiment.

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effects of prophylactic administration of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) in relieving inflammation in a rat model of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Female Wistar rats (6 to 8 weeks old) were randomly divided into normal control group, solvent control group, and prophylactic ATRA treatment (0.05, 0.5, and 5 mg/kg) groups. All the rats except for those in normal control group were subjected to subcutaneous injection of type II collagen and incomplete Freund adjuvant in the tails to induce CIA, followed by injection on the following day with saline, corn oil or different doses of ATRA 3 times a week. The arthritis index (AI) scores, histological scores, serum levels of TNF-α, IL-17A, and IL-10, and expressions of proteases related with cartilage damage were evaluated.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>On the 15th day after the primary immunization, the AI scores increased significantly in all but the normal control groups; the scores increased progressively in all the 3 ATRA groups but remained lower than that in the solvent control group, which was stable over time. The rats in the 3 ATRA groups showed obvious pathologies in the knee and ankle joints, but the semi-quantitative scores of pathology damage showed no significance among them. Compared with those in solvent control group, the serum IL-17A and TNF-α levels decreased, serum IL-10 level increased, and the expressions of ADAMT-4 and MMP-3 proteins decreased significantly in the knees in the 3 ATRA groups.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>ATRA can reduce the production of TNF-α and IL-17A and increase the production of IL-10 to alleviate the inflammation in rats with CIA. ATRA may delay the progression of RA by correcting the imbalance of Th1/Th2 and Th17/Treg.</p>

RESUMEN

In order to explore the dormancy physiological and biochemical mechanism of Paris seeds, the seed embryo growth courses, and the dynamic change of 5 enzymes, include SOD, POD, CAT, MDH, G-6-PDH were measured during variable temperature stratification. The results indicated that Paris seeds embryo grew quickly after 40 d in warm-stratification (18 ± 1) °C, at the meantime the metabolic activity was significantly strengthened. These facts showed that Paris seeds turned into physiological after-ripening process. After 60-80 d, the morphological embryo after-ripping process basically completed, and the following cold-stratification (4 ± 1) °C furthered Paris seed to finish physiological after-ripening. After 40 d, the activity of MDH decreased while G-6-PDH increased significantly. This showed that the main respiratory pathway of seed changed from TCA to PPP, which benifited breaking seed dormancy. In the whole period of stratification process, the activity variation of SOD and CAT was insignificantly and the activity of POD was enhanced significantly after shifting the seed in cold stratification process. This showed that SOD, CAT had no direct effects on breaking Paris seed dormancy but keeping the seed vigor, while the POD might involve in the process of Paris seed dormancy breaking.

RESUMEN

UNLABELLED: Pancreatic ß-cells are particularly susceptible to fatty-acid-induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and apoptosis. To understand how ß-cells sense fatty acid stimuli and translate into a long-term adaptive response, we investigated whether palmitic acid (PA) regulates early growth response-1 (Egr-1), an immediate-early transcription factor, which is induced by many environmental stimuli and implicated in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. We found that Egr-1 was rapidly and transiently induced by PA in MIN6 insulinoma cells, which was accompanied by calcium influx and ERK1/2 phosphorylation. Calcium chelation and MEK1/2 inhibition blocked PA-induced Egr-1 upregulation, suggesting that PA induces Egr-1 expression through a calcium influx-MEK1/2-ERK1/2 cascade. Knockdown of Egr-1 increased PA-induced caspase-3 activation and ER stress markers and decreased PA-induced Akt phosphorylation and insulin secretion and signaling. Akt replenishment and insulin supplementation rescued PA-induced apoptosis in Egr-1 knockdown cells. These results suggest that the absence of Egr-1 loses its ability to couple the short-term insulin/Akt pathway to long-term survival adaptation. Finally, Egr-1-deficient mouse islets are more susceptible to ex vivo stimuli of apoptosis. In human pancreatic tissues, EGR1 expression correlated with expression of ER stress markers and anti-apoptotic gene. In conclusion, Egr-1 is induced by PA and further attempts to rescue ß-cells from ER stress and apoptosis through improving insulin/Akt signaling. Our study underscores Egr-1 as a critical early sensor in pancreatic ß-cells to translate fatty acid stimuli into a cellular adaptation mechanism. KEY MESSAGE: PA stimulates Egr-1 expression via a calcium influx-MEK1/2-ERK1/2-Elk-1 cascade. Egr-1 attenuates PA-induced ER stress and apoptosis. Egr-1 maintains Akt survival pathway to protect ß-cells from PA-induced apoptosis. Egr-1-deficient islets are prone to ex vivo stimuli of apoptosis. Human EGR1 expression correlates with genes for ER stress and anti-apoptosis.

RESUMEN

Thermal ablation by using electromagnetic thermotherapy (EMT) has been a promising cancer modality in recent years. It has relatively few side effects and has therefore been extensively investigated for a variety of medical applications in internal medicine and surgery. The EMT system applies a high-frequency alternating electromagnetic field to heat up the needles which are inserted into the target tumor to cause tumor ablation. In this study, a new synchronized-coil EMT system was demonstrated, which was equipped with two synchronized coils and magnetic field generators to provide a long-range, penetrated electromagnetic field to effectively heat up the needles. The heating effect of the needles at the center of the two coils was first explored. The newly designed two-section needle array combined with the synchronized-coil EMT system was thus demonstrated in the in vitro and in vivo animal experiments. Experimental data showed that the developed system is promising for minimally invasive surgery since it might provide superior performance for thermotherapy in cancer treatment.

RESUMEN

Thermotherapy has been a promising method to treat tumor. In recent years, electromagnetic thermotherapy (EMT) has been extensively investigated and holds the potential for a variety of medical applications including for cancer treatment when combined with minimally invasive surgery approach. In this study, an alternating electromagnetic frequency was provided by an EMT system to heat up stainless steel needle arrays which were inserted into the target tumor to a high temperature, therefore leading to local ablation of the tumor. A new two-section needle-array apparatus was further demonstrated to encompass the tumor to prevent the tumor cells to spread after the treatment process. By using the needle-array insertion apparatus, there is no limitation of the treatment area; this method could, therefore, be applied for tumors that are larger than 6 cm. It was first successfully demonstrated in the in vitro experiments on porcine livers. Then an in vivo experiment was directly conducted on pigs. The two-section needle array incorporated with the needle-array apparatus and EMT was demonstrated to be promising for no-touch isolation treatment of cancerous tumors.

RESUMEN

Thermal ablation has been a promising method to remove the cancerous tissues. Electromagnetic-based thermotherapy has been extensively investigated for a variety of medical applications recently. In this study, a prototype electromagnetic thermotherapy system has been developed with a new coil design and a two-section needle. The coil can generate an alternating electromagnetic field (EMF) with a deep penetration depth to remotely heat the needle which is located up to 15 cm away, enabling percutaneous thermal ablation. Several important parameters, including the heating effects of the needle at different positions, the intensity of the EMF and the induced temperature distribution on the surrounding tissue, are first explored. An in vitro animal experiment has also been performed which shows EMF-induced ablation in a porcine liver by the needle. Furthermore, an in vivo experiment on an animal model (a New Zealand white rabbit) is also conducted in the study. Thus, the two-section needle combined with the coil-generated EMF has been demonstrated to be a promising thermotherapy system for percutaneous thermal ablation.

RESUMEN

This article was aimed to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture and flunarizine for migraine treatment. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in migraine treatment by acupuncture andflunarizine were searched in the Pubmed, Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP, and W anfang database. The quality of inclusion criteria were assessedaccording to the CochraneCollaboration's recommended methodand the effective data was extracted. Then, the RevMan5.2 software was used in thesummary and analysis of the effective literatures. The results showed thatthe total sample size was893 cases, with 10 studies according to the inclusion criteria. Meta-analysis showed that the short-term efficacy of the treatment group was higher than the control group [RR = 1.27, 95%CI (1.11, 1.45), P<0.000 4];the long-term efficacy of the treatment group was higher than the control group [RR = 1.76, 95%CI (1.05, 2.94), P=0.03]; headache degree of improvement was better than thecontrol group [MD = -2.00, 95%CI (-3.01, -0.99), P=0.000 1]. It was concluded that acupuncture was more effective than flunarizinein migraine treatment. However, the whole study sample size was relatively small, thequality assessment was not high, and the funnel plot analysis was left-right asymmetry, which indicated the presence of publication bias. It was concluded that more high-quality clinical cases should be confirmed in the future.
