RESUMEN

Objective: To observe the comprehensive treatment effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine on ventilator-related diseases. Methods: From January 2021 to August 2022, a total of 80 patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia were selected and divided into a test group and a matched control group based on the random number table, with 40 cases in each group. The control group received traditional Western medical care, and all patients were given tigecycline intravenously. The patients in the test group were treated with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and all patients were given tigecycline for injection by intravenous drip combined with Qingfei Huatan decoction orally. The two groups' therapeutic outcomes were contrasted, namely: procalcitonin (PCT), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, hypersensitive C-reactive protein (CRP), blood oxygen saturation (PaO2), and white blood cell (WBC) count. Acute physiology and persistent health scores, clinical lung infection score, mechanical ventilation time, body temperature recovery time, and hospitalization time were recorded. Results: The effective Of cure in the test group was 37/40 (92.50%) and in the control group it was 30/40 (75.00%). The test group outperformed the control group by a considerable margin (P < .05). The levels of PCT, TNF-α, and hs-CRP were lower in the two groups, and the levels of TNF-α, PCT, and hs-CRP reduced with treatment (P < .05). The white blood cell and PaO2 levels were lower in the experimental group. APACHE II and CPIS scores decreased (P < .05). two groups,Postoperative body temperature recovery time, mechanical ventilation time, and hospital stay were all shortened (P < .05). Conclusion: The combination of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine has a positive clinical impact on ventilator-related diseases.

Nutrient removal in carbon limited wastewater with high efficiency and energy saving remains a bottleneck for wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). This study established a pilot-scale anaerobic/aerobic/anoxic (AOA) system with processing capacity of 100 m3/d for the first time. During almost 300 days of stable operation, enhanced nitrogen and phosphorus removal at a C/N of 5 was achieved, and the concentrations of total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) in effluent were 3.60 ± 1.55 and 0.24 ± 0.13 mg/L. Tetrasphaera and Candidatus Competibacter were the dominant phosphorus accumulating organisms (PAOs) and glycogen accumulating organisms (GAOs) in the AOA system. Moreover, the low phosphorus release ensured sufficient intracellular carbon storage by endogenous denitrification, which was the critical factor for nitrogen and phosphorus removal in carbon limited wastewater. The denitrification phosphorus removal (DPR) ability further removed phosphorus and prevented secondary phosphorus release to maintain a low phosphorus concentration in effluent. Finally, rapid start-up, high nutrient removal efficiency and low energy consumption make the proposed AOA process suitable for application in newly constructed and renovated WWTPs.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge is a bulk medicinal material used in traditional Chinese medicine, that can cure cardiovascular diseases, neurasthenia, and other conditions. Sweating is a frequently used method of processing S. miltiorrhiza for medical applications. We previously demonstrated changes to the metabolic profile of linoleic acid, glyoxylate, and dicarboxylate after Sweating. However, this alteration has not been explained at the molecular level. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fresh roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge were treated by the Sweating processing, and then the tandem mass tag technique was used to compare the proteome difference between Sweating S. miltiorrhiza and non-Sweating S. miltiorrhiza. RESULTS: We identified a total of 850 differentially expressed proteins after Sweating treatment in S. miltiorrhiza, including 529 upregulated proteins and 321 downregulated proteins. GO enrichment analysis indicated that these differentially expressed proteins are involved in external encapsulating structure, cell wall, oxidoreductase activity, ligase activity, and others. Further analysis showed that CYP450, the pathogenesis-related protein Bet v 1 family, and the peroxidase domain were the major protein domains. KEGG enrichment identified 18 pathways, of which phenylpropanoid biosynthesis is the most important one related to the metabolite profile and is the principal chemical component of S. miltiorrhiza. CONCLUSION: This study addressed potential molecular mechanisms in S. miltiorrhiza after Sweating, and the findings provide reasons for the changes in biochemical properties and metabolites changes which might cause pharmacological variation at the proteome level.

Objective: This study aims to explore the effect of integrating routine treatment with Tai Chi Chuan (TCC) intervention on the clinical symptom of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) from clinical and neurological perspectives. Methods: Twenty patients with COPD were recruited for regular treatment combined with 8-week TCC rehabilitative practice. Clinical symptoms were evaluated by Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Symptom Assessment Scale (CAT) and Modified Dyspnea Scale (mMRC) at baseline and after treatment. Resting-state MRI scan was also performed with multiline T2-weighted echo-planar imaging (EPI) to acquire their functional images before and after the treatment. TCC rehabilitation involved a total of 8 weeks of practice with 90 min per session, three times a week. Results: After an 8-week integration routine treatment with TCC practice, the patient's clinical symptoms improved significantly. Imaging analysis showed that COPD patients exhibited decreased Degree of Centrality (DC) in the right inferior frontal gyrus (IFG), right middle frontal gyrus, bilateral cingulate cortex, bilateral precuneus, and right precentral gyrus. Moreover, correlation analysis found that the decreased DC in the right IFG was positively correlated with the CAT improvements. Conclusion: The routine treatment involving TCC rehabilitation practice could improve the clinical symptoms of patients with COPD. The right IFG might be a key brain region to contribute to the neural mechanism underlying integrative intervention on the clinical symptoms in COPD. These findings provide neurological evidence for treating COPD rehabilitation practice with mind-body practice based on Chinese culture to some extent, which also advances the understanding of the efficacy of TCC as the adjuvant technology from a neuroscience perspective. The lysine crotonylation of histone proteins is a newly identified posttranslational modification with diversified cellular functions. However, there are few reports on lysine crotonylation of non-histone proteins in medicinal plant cells. By using high-resolution liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) coupled with highly sensitive-specific immune-affinity antibody analysis, a whole crotonylation proteome analysis of Dendrobium huoshanense was performed. In total, 1,591 proteins with 4,726 lysine crotonylation sites were identified; among them, 11 conserved motifs were identified. Bioinformatic analyses linked crotonylated proteins to the drought stress response and multiple metabolic pathways, including secondary metabolite biosynthesis, transport and catabolism, energy production and conversion, carbohydrate transport and metabolism, translation, and ribosomal structure and biogenesis. This study contributes toward understanding the regulatory mechanism of polysaccharide biosynthesis at the crotonylation level even under abiotic stress.

BACKGROUND: A new type of coronavirus (COVID-19), is spreading all over the world. Under the background of the comprehensive medical treatment and strict prevention and control in China, the number of discharged patients increased substantially. By the end of July, more than 80,000 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital in China. In order to effectively promote the full recovery of the patient's physical and mental functions and quality of life, gradually shift the emphasis of clinical work to convalescence therapy is very important, thus Chinese experts draw up Expert Consensus on Rehabilitation of Chinese Medicine for COVID-19. This systematic review and meta-analysis will assess studies of the effects of traditional Chinese exercise (TCE) for COVID-19 patients. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We will search 6 English and 4 Chinese databases by 01, December 2020. After a series of screening, Randomized Clinic Trials (RCTs) will be included related to TCE for COVID-19. Two assessors will use the Cochrane bias risk assessment tool to assess the RCTs. Finally, the evidence grade of the results will be evaluated. RESULTS: This study will provide a reliable evidence for the selection of TCE therapies for COVID-19. CONCLUSION: The results of this study will provide references for the selection of TCE treatment for COVID-19, and provide decision making references for clinical research. The purpose of this study is to analyze the obstructive factors of clinical practice guideline on traditional Chinese medicine therapy alone or combined with antibiotics for acute pharyngitis, and summarize the revision suggestions for follow-up revision and promotion. Clinical physicians from 181 hospitals in 27 regions of China were selected to complete the online questionnaire survey for statistical analysis of obstructive factors. We collected 501 copies of the applicability evaluation questionnaire and 503 copies of the application evaluation questionnaire. The obstructive factors mainly focused on limitation of the Guideline, inconvenience of access, particularity of primary medical structure and uneven distribution of surveyed subjects. As for amendments, it was suggested to improve the syndrome differentiation, indications, prescriptions, and add characteristic TCM therapies in Chinese medicine; it was suggested to clarify the time to use antibiotics in Western medicine. According to the results of this study, the relevant contents of the Guideline should be further improved so as to be better applied in clinical practice.

This paper systematically studies relevant literatures at home and abroad in recent years. China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI) was used to collect the literatures for acute pharyngitis treated with traditional Chinese medicine from January 1, 2006, to December 31, 2016, and the bibliometric method was employed for statistical analysis. A total of 493 papers were preliminarily selected. According to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, 182 eligible articles were selected. According to the evaluation and analysis of the literatures, the Guidelines for Clinical Research of New Drugs is currently used as the common standards for the diagnosis and treatment of acute pharyngitis; Chinese patent medicines are the main traditional Chinese medicine for treating this disease; Decoctions for treatment of this disease include Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, Scutellariae Radix, Platycodonis Radix, Forsythiae Fructus, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Scrophdlariae Radix, Isatidis Radix, and Ophiopogonis Radix; The bloodletting puncture is the common external therapy. Traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine have their own characteristics in the treatment of this disease. Western medicine for the treatment of acute pharyngitis are mainly antiviral, antibiotic and glucocorticoid drugs, whose disadvantages are toxicity, side effects, drug resistance and double infections. Traditional Chinese medicine doctors have rich experiences in the treatment of the disease, which is characterized by treatment determination based on syndrome differentiation, safe and reliable medication, significant curative effect, low drug resistance, and wide varieties of traditional Chinese medicine forms, convenient portability and taking, low price, and low toxic and side effects. It is an arduous and significant task to explore traditional Chinese medicine, and study and develop new-type effective drugs.
